This was absolutely incredible, Fernando (guide) was so energetic and extremely knowledgeable, making the whole experience fun. We had a small group and all got on so well. The admission fee was very reasonable for what we were given and the time just flew by. If we didn’t book this trip we would have missed areas of the city that we didn’t know existed, even though we explored a lot of it already. This is an absolute must for anyone that loves food!! Couldn’t recommend enough.

Itinerary
Santiago is a city squeezed between snow-capped Andes peaks and some of the world's most fertile farmland. It's a place where Indigenous traditions, Spanish influences, and waves of migration have combined to create a food culture that often surprises first-time visitors. Our feasting tour of 12+ tastings explores three of Santiago's most important food markets, uncovering the flavours, stories, and traditions. Led by our team of foodie tastemaker guides, we'll journey through bustling market buildings, and local institutions that many visitors never discover. Before we get started, our tour reflects the local cuisine and the limitations of market vendors means we unfortunately cannot cater for every dietary restriction. Here's an honest appraisal for the tour so no-one is disappointed: ✔ Possible for pescatarians, no pork diets and mild nut allergies, though some tastings are unsuitable ✖️ Unsuitable for vegetarians, vegans, lactose intolerance, celiac, and no seafood diets
We begin beside the Monument to the Indigenous Peoples in Santiago's historic centre before hopping aboard the Metro, the lifeblood of modern Santiago, and heading north towards the city's market district. Our first destination is Vega Central, one of the largest and most important produce markets in Chile. Beneath its bustling roof, traders from across the country arrive daily with fruit, vegetables, herbs, and ingredients from Chile's astonishingly diverse geography. We'll sample seasonal Chilean fruits before biting into one of the country's most beloved foods: the empanada de pino. Filled with seasoned beef, onions, and generations of tradition, these baked pastries occupy a place in Chilean culture somewhere between comfort food and national treasure.
Not far away, we stop at another local institution for a dish that often leaves visitors puzzled and locals fiercely proud: the completo. Chile's answer to the hot dog arrives piled high with toppings, often featuring avocado, tomatoes, mayonnaise, and more. It's gloriously excessive, uniquely Chilean, and somehow manages to be both a quick snack and a national obsession. A short stroll later brings us to neighbouring La Vega Chica, where market workers and shoppers fuel up throughout the day. Here we'll enjoy sopaipillas con palta, golden pumpkin fritters fresh from the fryer and topped with creamy avocado. Simple ingredients, expertly executed.
As we continue through the markets, Chile's agricultural heritage comes into sharper focus. We'll sample humitas, a dish with roots stretching back long before Spanish colonisation. Fresh corn is ground into a paste, wrapped, steamed, and transformed into one of the country's most enduring traditional foods. Served alongside a light Chilean salad, it offers a taste of the ingredients that have sustained communities across the Andes for centuries. The feast continues with a trio of classics. Pastel de choclo layers sweet corn with savoury fillings in one of Chile's most iconic dishes. Caldo de pata, a rich cow-foot soup, showcases the resourcefulness of traditional cooking, while porotos granados combines beans, corn, squash, and vegetables into a hearty seasonal stew that appears on Chilean tables every summer.
Further south stands one of Santiago's great culinary landmarks: Mercado Central. Opened in 1872 and crowned by an intricate wrought-iron structure shipped from Britain, this historic market has been feeding Santiago for over 150 years. Although the city sits far from the coast, Chile's extraordinary Pacific waters play a huge role in the national diet, providing some of the world's richest seafood resources. Inside the market, we'll visit a beloved local seafood eatery where generations of cooks have celebrated the country's maritime bounty. Expect creamy chupe de jaiba, a rich crab bake beloved throughout Chile, alongside paila marina, a seafood soup packed with ocean flavours. We'll also sample fresh Chilean ceviche, showcasing the quality of seafood that arrives daily from the Pacific.
We finish as many Chileans have for generations: with a glass of mote con huesillo. Part drink, part dessert, this refreshing combination of dried peaches and wheat berries has been enjoyed across the country since colonial times. Sweet, comforting, and unmistakably Chilean, it's the perfect finale to a journey through Santiago's markets. There's more to this Santiago food tour than the dishes themselves. It's a discovery and understanding of the farmers, traders, cooks, and communities that keep the city fed every day. Whilst it's possible to visit these markets alone, you'd be hard-pushed to uncover these stories, flavours, and local favourites without our tastemaker guides.

Our time with Manuel was a joy! We were glad for his knowledge of Santiago/Chile. The food was tasty and definitely new to us. We were so intrigued to experience the real life of the city. Manuel is so kind and hospitable! Many thanks for a great outing.
Pablo was a very informative guide who took us on a great tour through lots of busy markets for some really tasty treats.
Our guide Raul was fantastic, knowledgeable and funny. Learned alit about chillean food and culture. Highly recommend
Manuel made this tour. He's knowledgeable, warm, and clearly proud of Chilean food, and he explained what each dish was, how it's prepared, and how to order it at a market on your own. The pace was well judged: we covered several food hubs over four hours without feeling rushed or dragging. The food was fantastic and generous. We worked through 14 tastings, from an empanada de pino and a traditional completo to caldo de pata, porotos con mote, pastel de choclo, and a lomo vetado with smashed potatoes. We also tried roasted nuts (maní con merkén, avellanas chilenas), machas a la parmesana, chupe de jaiba, and mote con huesillo to finish. My favorites were the empanada, the completo, the caldo de pata, the machas, and the chupe de jaiba. Nobody left hungry; come with an appetite. This is the best way to get into Santiago's markets without feeling lost. You'll eat what locals eat and understand it. Highly recommended, and ask for Manuel.
Manuel David was a great guide. Knowledgeable and friendly. Pre- tour WhatsApp communication was very useful. Great variety of dishes. And was able to deal with food preferences.
Be ready to eat. Do not be afraid to ask for wipes. Raul the tour hide was great. The food selection was very good
Lots of great food to taste at many different markets. Great guide and interesting restaurants to try traditional Chilean food.
It was a lovely experience and I enjoyed the food. Rauol our tour guide was amazing . The only thing I have found here is if the tour guides had bright coloured clothes or something to make them stand out in a crowd. Also the meeting point if there was a picture of the monument would be helpful as I was standing in the wrong place . But overall I would highly recommend this tour
Had a great time … lots of learning and a lot of food. Manuel was a great guide!
Solid tour with a great guide, providing an accessible way to see the local Santiago markets that I would imagine the majority of tourists may find a little difficult to navigate. Authentic local dishes provided, and certainly no one left hungry!
A great way to explore parts of the city that you wouldn't otherwise visit. Fantastic food and a great guide who really helps to explain different traditional Chilean food.
We had a fantastic time with Manuel on this food tour of the markets, and learned some Chilean history too. The markets are a combination of intriguing food stalls and small eateries where you can try typical everyday dishes. Manuel is a great guide and very funny - you can’t help but like him immediately. Whatever you do, don’t eat beforehand, and try not to finish everything or you’ll explode. I think our favourite dish was the razor clams with melted Parmesan but the empanadas were great too. Don’t think twice — do this tour!
What a fabulous food tour! Manuel, our guide, was informative, thoughtful and really funny, which made the whole experience so enjoyable. There were just five of us including Manuel, so it felt very relaxed and personal, and we had such a great time together. And the food… there was SO much! A little tip for anyone booking this tour: definitely don’t have breakfast beforehand and come prepared to be very well fed — you will leave full! The razor clams were probably the food highlight for me, but what made the experience really special was having the opportunity to taste such a variety of authentic Chilean food and learn more about the culture behind it. A brilliant way to experience Chilean food, especially in such a small and friendly group. I would highly recommend this tour — and Manuel was a fantastic guide!
An excellent tour. Manuel took us to places we would never dare to go. He unlocked the door to cuisine that was authentic and very tasty. He added value in terms of history which added context to the 12 dishes. He made our experience first class. Thank you Manuel.
What an excellent day. Manuel spoke excellent English. He took us through the Metro to the local food markets and we tried so many foods we would never have tried without him. It was relaxed and the locals in the markets were so welcoming and friendly. Thanks for making our last day in Santiago so special Manuel!
Great walking tour, staring with a little history of the city, followed by trying many local dishes. I had the pleasure of having two tour guides for the price of one!
Absolutely fantastic food tour with Manuel! One of the best experiences I’ve had in Santiago! We explored authentic markets, hidden-away food spots and tried an amazing variety of Chilean dishes. There was so much delicious food, I honestly lost count! Along the way, Manuel shared fascinating stories and insights into Chilean food and everyday life, making the whole experience both incredibly interesting and great fun. What really stood out was how wonderfully personal the tour felt, even as part of a group. Manuel paid attention to each and every one of us and made sure everyone felt included. He also took my food allergy seriously and went out of his way to find fantastic alternatives for me — I never felt I was missing out on anything. I learnt a lot, ate a lot, laughed a lot — and had an absolutely brilliant time. If you’re in Santiago, do yourself a favour and book this tour with Manuel. Highly recommended!
Very informative and also the most tasty food I have ever had. It could not get better than this. 🙏🙏
Our guide Daniel was on time, very friendly and open for any questions. We recommend Trip Advisor to keep using him for these types of tours.
This was such a great way to experience Chilean food. My mom and I went on a very brief trip to Chile and in this tour we felt like we got to try everything we had originally wanted. There is so much food provided too. From completos and sopapillas to seafood stew and ceviche at the end, we couldn't have asked for a better tasting. By the end we mostly just picked at the food because there was so much, so if you're especially into seafood, pace yourself at the beginning because we definitely couldn't eat as much as we wanted we were so full!
A great way to experience the bustling food markets of Santiago. Manuel was helpful and knowledgeable and introduced us to some typical Chilean dishes. We covered a lot of ground including using the metro so it was an excellent way to see see the city. Highly recommend (not suitable for vegetarians as there are a lot of meat dishes).
What a great way to experience the bustling markets of Santiago and sample a huge range of traditional food. My favourites were the Completo Completo and the Pisco Sour. Manuel was a knowledgeable and energetic guide, sharing history, food knowledge and a great selection of food while also taking us on the subway, showing us his dance moves and making sure no one got lost. There was so much food - a great time and a fun tour!
Our guide, Manuel, conducted a really enjoyable experience of Chilean markets and food. He started with a great explanation of the history of Chile and Santiago, then took us to the markets. We were invited to taste twelve different foods that were typical of Chile in what felt like an authentic street food manner. This is a great way to explore the local culinary traditions and was great value for money.
It was fantastic tour through the markets and trying amazing foods. Make sure to come hungry and pace yourself, there is lots of foods to try!
Manuel was a wonderful guide. He gave us an interesting history lesson and took us to some many fantastic places. The food was out of this world. My favorite was the Waldo de pata! Recommending this to everyone.
Amazing experience. Great food, a bit of walking and culture… and a glimpse of Chilean life in markets. Manuel was a very patient tour guide and we had so much fun!
I had a great experience with Manuel on this food tour of Santiago and highly recommend it. We tasted different foods, walked through various markets and learned a lot about Chilean cuisine. You even get to travel by subway at one point. Very fun and Manuel was great!
A Chef’s Tour is a truly amazing way to experience Santiago and Chilean food/culture! The guides Ivan and Manuel were really friendly and knowledgeable, and made it a great overall experience. The food was fantastic and there was SO much! Honestly, make sure you come hungry, and even then you might not get through it all. Would absolutely recommend to anyone visiting, thanks Ivan and Manuel!
A brilliant tour led by Manuel, we tried lots of interesting food across Santiago. Definitely come hungry as there is so much to try! Excellent value would definitely recommend.
Great food and even better guide. Could not recommend this tour more. Come hungry, leave full, knowledgeable and happy!
Excellent tour starting in a central location an picking up a number of local markets. The guide was really knowledgable and took us to lots of interesting locations I would next have gone to. There was so much food to try, so make sure you skip breakfast!
We loved our tour with Manuel! He was the perfect guide with extensive knowledge of Chilean history and food culture. He deftly wove us through the city and the busy market. We truly got to see and experience how the locals eat. The communication was seamless. The food was delicious, interesting and filling. And the time flew by. Would highly recommend.
Great tour. Amazing tour of the markets and to spots we never would have found on our own. Great way to spend a day in Santiago with your family.
Experience was great and food was amazing (definitely more than I could finish) but Ivan our tour guide was the highlight.
Such a dream tour! We booked last minute as a couple. Ivan & Manu were excellent. We were treated to such a spread of different foods, each with an explanation and they were delicious, especially the fish dishes ♥️ such an authentic experience and would fully recommend.
Great time exploring places I’d never have seen without Ivan guiding us. The experience was unique and enjoyable
Expansive menu throughout several neighborhoods in Santiago. Our guide Ivan was informative, fun, and engaging. Fun and appetizing way to learn more about where you are visiting.
We had a wonderful experience on our food tour and our guid, Ivan, was so great! We brought our 13 and 8 year olds and he was friendly and engaging with them and also very accommodating when we needed to adjust a bit. We lucked out with two other participants who were also very friendly and patient with our younger one who loves to talk! The food was delicious, my only comment is that it is SO MUCH FOOD! We couldn’t eat it all, but were able to try everything. I felt bad that we wasted some of the food and wished some portions were smaller. We loved learning about the food and history of Santiago. Definitely plan to come hungry!
Ivan was absolutely fantastic! We felt like he was our friend and he was hosting us as guests in his city. He knew all of the local vendors and gave us the authentic tour we were hoping for. His English was perfect and the food was well-balanced between Chilean comfort foods and traditional plates. We cannot recommend him enough. Shut up and eat!
I really enjoyed the food tour, trying different dishes, learning a little bit of Santiago and Chilean history and making friends with the guide and other tour members. Ivan, our guide was super friendly, kind, polite, informative and protective. I highly recommend this tour to anyone and look forward to trying other tours they offer around the world.
Absolutely amazing! So so so much food so don’t have breakfast before you go. Unisulov spoke great English, was funny and really patient with all the questions we had. He spoke a lot about the city and even gave us other recommendations for time in Santiago. Definitely worth doing on your first day to get a better understanding of the city! Going to markets which you might not have thought to go to. My favourite dish was Porotos con mote! But everything tasted amazing. Thanks again :)
Very good look at local markets and the variety of Chilean food typically found at lunch time. Informative guide. Great quantity of food particularly for one person, probably more manageable for a few people!
We had a fantastic afternoon on this food tour and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Santiago. It was much more than just trying different foods. We learned a lot about Chilean culture, traditions, and everyday life while walking through neighborhoods and visiting local spots we would never have found on our own. Everything we tasted was delicious, and our guide made the experience even better with their enthusiasm, knowledge, and friendly attitude. The tour felt relaxed, authentic, and very generous in terms of both food and information. We finished the tour full, happy, and with a much deeper appreciation for Chilean cuisine. Thank you for such a memorable experience!
We had such a great time on this food tour! It ended up being one of our favorite experiences in Santiago. Our guide was super friendly and shared lots of interesting stories about Chilean food, culture, and daily life. We got to try a wide range of local dishes and drinks, and everything was delicious. It was also nice to visit places we would have never discovered by ourselves. The tour was well organized, the portions were generous, and the atmosphere was relaxed and fun from start to finish. We left feeling full, happy, and with a much better understanding of Chilean cuisine. We would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Santiago and wanting to experience the city beyond the usual tourist spots. Thanks again for such a lovely afternoon!
This was a little underwhelming - we didn't try many of the foods that were advertised and I'm not sure we even went to the places advertised - it seemed that we went to just one local shop and then the rest of the time we spent at the central market. Instead of trying many local foods, we were sat at two market restaurants to eat the same sort of meals. We didn't try sopaipillas or humitas wrapped in corn husks, or maní con merkén or mote con huesillo.
We did the Chef’s Tour in Santiago and really had a great time. The food was fantastic and the atmosphere in the mercados was great. Truly something to experience! Raoul was our guide and he was the best. We got so much more out of the experience with him as our guide than we would have by trying to do it ourselves. Highly recommended! Oh, and Raoul knows his rock n roll too!😎
Our daughter gave this as a gift while we were travelling in Santiago. RAUL our guide was knowledgeable, personal and was well informed about all the ingredients and fruit on offer. Would highly recommend doing this tour BUT come on an empty stomach. There is a lot of tasty food.
Last week I joined the food tour led by Raúl. We met at Plaza de Armas and hopped on the metro to find and eat our way back, visiting 4 different markets, to the starting point. We went to places where locals eat and I was able to try local dishes I would never have ordered. We finished with a Mote con Huesillo (🍑🌾). Thank you, Raúl, for showing us around and sharing the flavours of Chile and Santiago. Come hungry!
Raul was an excellent tour guide! The tour was not only educational and engaging, but also an excellent value for families with kids. We tried many dishes that we wouldn't have otherwise, and it was all delicious.
