Itinerary
A few kilometers from Santiago, Cajón del Maipo is a mountain canyon surrounded by hills, massifs and cliffs with important rivers, which gives us a variety of unforgettable landscapes. attractions throughout the year, it is an excellent place both to enjoy nature and to practice different sports. In winter the snowy mountain range offers beautiful postcard views and centers for white sports such as skiing and in summer relaxing in its campsites and cabins. In both seasons it is possible to go trekking, hiking and horseback riding in search of spotting condors and peucos. Its main town is San José de Maipo, capital of the commune, which is the ideal place to start getting to know the area, in the midst of colorful architecture, the visitor will find a whole series of services to enjoy the area. However, other areas with great tourist attractions also stand out, such as El Yeso, El Colorado, San Gabriel, El Manzano, among others.
Embalse El Yeso is one of the many destinations that only one day would take us to visit. With an impressive landscape of the snow-capped mountain range, and waters that captivate all who visit it, El Embalse El Yeso emerges as one of the must-sees that this mountainous area offers us. If what we are looking for is to observe a portrait of nature, away from city noise and have the privilege of seeing birds, snow, water and being able to breathe clean and free air, you have definitely hit your destination.
The Tinoco tunnel is a great engineering work carved in rock and has a length of more than 600 meters. It corresponds to a construction carried out for the transit of the Puente Alto-el Volcán railway. The train stopped working in 1985 and today the facilities are abandoned.
The Chocolate House is one of the most popular and representative tourist attractions of the Cajón del Maipo tourist destination, a mandatory stop for a large part of the tour operators. It is a magical place that in its center has a cafeteria with striking vernacular architecture, which emulates a house built with chocolate, surrounded by a small forest, with corridors, a bonfire and resting places taken from a fairy tale. where we will be able to appreciate the details in design and architecture of one of the oldest and most innovative families in Cajon tourism.
The Plaza de Armas is a meeting place and a must-see for tourists due to its attractions. On weekends and holidays it comes alive with the fair, you can visit it and find interesting typical craft samples from the area, giving the visitor the opportunity to get a nice memory of this trip, to be able to enjoy the fresh air and have all the tranquility outside the city. With the necessary space to walk, to sit, to enjoy the beautiful hills that surround it, with shops close at hand, leafy trees that provide incomparable shade, simply visiting it is worth it.

While the trip is affordable, you feel like a cow they are going to milk being taken from one stop to another with the expectation that you will spend money there, no doubt for the company to gain commission. The trip is called Yeso Reservoir, yet we spent longer waiting around in crappy restaurants and other random stops than we did at the actual reservoir. After 3+ useless stops, the show at the end is not what I signed up for at all, and I resent being made to sit through it. If I wanted to see a show in a campsite, I would buy a ticket for that.
Incredible! Our guide, Alejandro, was very attentive and shared great details about the geography and history of the region, which made the trip even more interesting. The landscapes are absolutely stunning, and the views were breathtaking. It's definitely a tour worth taking, and I highly recommend it!
Great experience with amazing view. Alejandro is an excellent tour guide explaining is various details of fauna, fauna and all the history involved in that region (earthquakes, volcanoes…)
It was a good experience overall, especially the animation of Kevin. He was energetic interactive and fun to be around. The group also was nice. The El-Yeso dam place is nice the view and the scenery was amazing. We had chance to take good pictures and to enjoy the view (despite the freezing cold). Overall it was totally worth it, I just wish there were more activities or places to cover.
Excellent trip. 100% recomended. The Cajón del Maipo is a wonderfull place where you can feel a fresh air and spend a splendid day.
Some amazing views and a friendly group of fellow tourists. Edison was a very good driver and guide. A well planned trip and we were well looked after.
The tour guide Varinia, and Daniel the driver were excellent. Super nice people, energetic and knowledgeable! Totally recommend this one day tour!!!! Beautiful scenes and landscapes!! You can see birds, and other animals in their own habitat, and if you are lucky, you can see a condor as well!! You can bring your own food, but they stop at places where you can buy food and drinks. They also stop at a place where you can buy delicious treats, and ice cream. They end the tour with a wine tasting! Kudos for them!!! Don’t miss this opportunity!
We really enjoy the tour, the guide Alejandro was perfect. Too polite give to was a lot of information during the tour. Also more tips about whay to do in Santiago and places around. If you have oportunit, choose this compampany for yours tours.
The guide Rocio and the driver Jorge were excellent -a 5! Very friendly, helpful and a great sense of humor!! We thought the day would be a little longer and the picnic would have more food - a 4.
The guide and driver were very nice and informative. I got injured the night before the tour and they rescheduled me without any fuss. The tour was amazing. The mini zoo at the food stop was also entertaining.
This must be the worst company I have ever come across. I booked through TripAdvisor I waited from 5.50 - 7.30 for 6 am pick up, they never came, no message . I tried calling , the apartment management tried calling but they didn’t answer. Later in the morning I got a message from Tripadvisor that they’ve requested a refund . Well I still haven’t got it and I didn’t ask for a refund I wanted the tour.
Guide never responded to chat or email. Guide arrive 30 minutes early for pick and left and never returned or made contact with group. Wait 90 minutes, before contacting customer support who were unable to connect to guide.
This was probably the worst tour we’ve ever taken. I have to say ahead of time that the reservoir js absolutely a wonderful place to visit. We enjoyed our hike there. It’s worthy of mention that we never went to half of the stops on the tour! Cajon Del Maipo dam and lagoon was nice but the only other place we made it to (besides the place to buy breakfast and rent gear) was the Casa de Chocolat. The other stops were never made. Our tour guide brought her child to work this day (and by the child’s relationship with a driver this was something that happened quite often) and, in fact, the tour guide left early and the driver took us all back to our hotels without explanation other than she had things she needed to go do. The tour equated to a few hours in the van that were more dedicated to the needs of the child. The cabin was filled with her music and her video games and there was no valuable interaction with the passengers aside from a few facts here and there. The experience in the van was also terrible. The driver was the worst we ever encountered. Red lights and stop signs were run and unsafe speed was maintained most of the time and we weaved in and out of traffic. There were several maintenance items needing attention in the van as well; it was filthy inside and out with litter strewn across the dashboard and dirt everywhere. We were grateful that the van actually made the trip as the climb to Cajon Del Maipo is treacherous. If this is the best that this particular tour company can offer, I would make recommendation that Viator stops dealing with them entirely. As an afternote, we went back to see what we had paid for this tour as we didn’t initially pay attention to that. It was less expensive than the other tours. We got about what we paid for if we would have taken an Uber.
Highly recommended - in safe capable hands of Claudio our skilled driver with the super organised, full of energy, trilingual (Espanol, Portugese, English) star Rocio! AAA+++ Variety on this tour, nature, animals, history and options for food. Hire the boots/ski pants if going in winter, value for money. If i had time and both Claudio and Rocio were the driver/guide i would book again.
Excellent choice with CIVITATIS! Our guide Rocio was very friendly and helpful! Lovely places and amazing atmosphere! Highly recommended!
A great day out! We accidentally booked the Spanish/Portuguese tour, but despite not understanding half of what was said, we still had a fabulous time. Cute coffee stop, amazing scenery. The tour guide was fabulous, made us laugh and even got some karaoke out of him!
I really enjoyed this trip. I travelled by myself, but felt really included in the group we travelled with. Manuel is an excellent guide and extremely friendly. I liked that while we were on our way every now and then he shared some interesting facts about the area. The stop at Embalse de Yeso is quite long (2,5 hour). I decided to walk all the way down to the ‘beach’ with someone from the group and that was a nice walk which took in total about 1-1.5 hour. So for me the stop was not too long, but if you don’t feel like walking it may be a long time to stay in one place as there is nothing other than the lake and 2 toilets. The picnic offered afterwards was really nice as well. Don’t expect a full lunch, but there was a nice variety of different cheeses, bites and some wine from Concha y Toro. There are also clean (chemical) toilets at the embalse which is nice. You have to pay 500 pesos to use them so make sure you bring small change. On the way back we had a short stop at ‘casa de chocolate’ which is a beautiful house where you can buy chocolates or ice cream. For me the stop there would not have been necessary but it was also no bother as it was quite short. All in all for me it was definitely worth the money!
Beautiful view. Long drive. Victor was super attentive and gave some information of Chile. Only worth one time to visit. Skip the chocolate house.
Spectacular trip!! The Cajón del Maipo was astonishing, indescribable!! It was totally worth the early wake up. Belen was a great guide, and Miguel, the driver, was really polite.
It was so beautiful. The only thing that was bad for me is that I am tall and the van does not have any legroom, so the ride was a little uncomfortable. But the tour guide Belen and the driver were amazing and I would absolutely recommend the tour.
Very grateful to have found this company, they sent me a email the day before the tour to let me know what time they would be stopping by to pick me up from my hotel and they arrived right on time the next day! Our Guide was very engaging with everyone on our tour and gave us a lot of information on the history of the town. The views are breathtaking! Please extend my gratitude to the tour guide and thank you for the memories that will forever last a lifetime with me!
Roxana was awesome! She spoke great English and made the entire trip fun. Everything was delivered above and beyond
Terrible tour company I waited for an hour then they cancelled. I can’t give a zero star or I would. Terrible
Tour and picnic was OK, but it did not visit the advertised El Yeso Dam. Apparently this tour has not visited El Yeso Dam for 7 months despite their advertising still saying that El Yeso dam is one of the destinations. Very disappointed that this destination has been deleted from the itinerary and passengers not advised that this is the case. It makes you wonder what other tours offered by TAC Tourismo are as described. Also the voucher for the tour stated that I must contact TAC Tourismo 24 hours before the tour to confirm and arrange pickup. The number given goes directly to answering machine and their email address is ignored. I received an answer to my email, advising the pick up time, the day after the trip. Not impressed.
Tour didn’t happen local tour company cancelled. Arrived at 6:00 am for pick up and no company showed up. Hotel clerk called and was told tour cancelled. Reservation made months ago. Until I double checked was not even notified about refund.
✨ Wonderful experience! ✨ The trip was simply incredible! A wonderful experience. I would like to congratulate the guide, who was extremely attentive, friendly, and dedicated, sharing information and making the tour even more special. My thanks also to the driver, for the attention, professionalism, and care throughout the journey, conveying safety and tranquility. The two were essential for this experience to be so pleasant and unforgettable. Thank you very much for your dedication and for all the care with us! Highly recommend!
I really liked the experience, although we were left wanting to see the Cajón del Maipo and the El Yeso Reservoir due to a landslide on the route. They took us to Lagunillas and we enjoyed the scenery.
Excellent day in the Cajón del Maipo. The guide Ignacio, who told us about the history of Chile and the Cajón del Maipo, managed to make the trip very entertaining.
For the tour, none of the times they told us were met. They picked us up half an hour late and we returned to Santiago until 7:15 p.m. so that you consider it in your itinerary. The views are very beautiful and the place is very nice. The lunch option seemed very expensive to me and not tasty at all; it is better to bring breakfast and lunch if you are on a tight budget or do not eat meat.
Impeccable experience on the tour of Cajón del Maipo! Paulina's guide was wonderful: super attentive, speaks Portuguese very well, and gave great explanations throughout the whole way. The recipe is delicious and very enjoyable to make. I highly recommend it!
Sebastián was very punctual and everything was well coordinated. The day before, they contacted me via WhatsApp to plan the pickup. If you do not have snow clothes, it is possible to rent a jacket, pants, boots, and gloves, but they are a bit expensive. We went up to Salto de Yeso, where there was a waterfall and a landscape of mountains and snow. The guide Sebastián explained many interesting things to us. We ate fruit and had some drinks like peach juice and pisco. Afterwards we returned to eat lunch and saw animals in a small zoo, and then we visited the town of San José del Maipo. Thank you.
Incredible tour! Wonderful views! The attention from Bastian and the wonderful team! Recommended!!!
An excellent excursion. Even though we could not reach the El Yeso Reservoir due to a rockslide that had occurred previously on the road, the experience was totally worth it. From the very first moment, Bastián took charge of resolving the unforeseen issue with great professionalism, reorganizing the itinerary and proposing other activities so that the day would be complete. Thanks to his willingness and good vibes, we enjoyed the mountain range landscapes to the fullest without feeling that the tour was incomplete.
Highly recommended tour. It is an experience that must be lived. Very good treatment received from the guide Pablo Rayo and the driver Angelo.
Pauli was a super guide, nice, attentive, and the tour was wonderful...
We were only told that the road to Embalse El Yeso was closed when we were already in the van going to Cajon del Maipo. So the trip was to go to this little waterfall, go to a restaurant, and to the chocolate house. For those who just wanted to see the snow, okay. But for those who already know and bought the tour to visit Embalse El Yeso, it wasn't nice; the agency should have warned beforehand that it would not be possible to access the tour destination. The guide was great.
Very nice experience, the transportation was punctual and they picked me up at the hotel. Beautiful scenery and I was lucky that it snowed. The guide Brahian was very kind and attentive to everything, highly recommended 🫶🏻
Taking this tour with Paulina and Angelo was the best choice, they were attentive to resolving all our questions from day one. Respectful and attentive. I fell behind on the climb and Mr. Angelo was attentive to helping and guiding me. I loved the whole experience
Terrible!!!, a rip-off!!!. The day before, they wrote to me via WhatsApp from the logistics operator company TAC (Ms. Dayanna) informing me that the tour was canceled due to "weather conditions," with no options to reschedule because I didn't have more time; to this day, they have not provided a response or a refund of the money!!!. I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT
Different and beautiful place and very good tour staff....
I didn't pass the bus and I didn't have any communication with the manager since 5:30 am I was waiting, I expect refund
Excellent tour with amazing views from start to finish. An experience that was worth every minute lived! All the points we stopped within the script, we were very well served. Our guide Brahian demonstrated a lot of knowledge, welcoming and made this experience a good choice exceeding expectations.
Excellent experience. Paulina the guide was extraordinary, knowledgeable, flexible, attentive.
Great views, beautiful place
Amazing place and wonderful scenery
Very good tour, the guide always worried about us and gave us clear information about the places we visited, overall an experience we would recommend.
The experience we had in the maipo was spectacular, overly beautiful landscapes, nature and everything that comes with the trip, all that was possible because the guide Alejandro did his best to make this tour unforgettable, an excellent guide, charismatic, with a fabulous knowledge of the place and with a formidable way of explaining the history and how it was all. It was the best guide we had and with the best explanation of all ❣️
I really want to congratulate the guide Alejandro who has a gift for treating people, is very nice and has a lot of knowledge that he shares on tours. He is definitely an excellent person and a great guide, the best I have ever had from my travels. Thank you so much for allowing me to share my vacation with such a great and wonderful guide!!! The places visited were very interesting and beautiful!!!
Very nice tour, an unforgettable experience Thanks Alejandro for all the availability and experience you put us through, we took a little bit of Chile in the heart to Costa Rica
