The property is visually stunning and the location is perfect. The only thing preventing a perfect 5 star rating is the moldy odor experience in room 205. We suspect the AC was the source so did not run the air conditioner. The hotel offered to relocate us to another room but we declined. Five stars for bellhop, housekeeping, bartender, and food service. 2 stars for front desk as they were minimally communicative and offered nothing to apologize for the moldy odor.

This is for the cafe Teria just next to the hotel. By the amazing back side of the church in the big open plaza. Great views and service. Prices are fine for a tourist spot. We gat a cappuccino and a beer and it came with some delicious free spiced olives. Super good. VictorB
We stayed here for three nights after doing the Camino Portuguese. The facilities and location were top notch! However: Breakfast left much to be desired. If you want hot food, you have to order it. Not even boiled eggs! And the receptionist during the night was quite rude. We can’t help but compare with the Paradores in Pontevedra where staff was very kind and helpful and friendly/polite.
Service: the maids and security guards were nice and helpful. The breakfast and dinner restaurant staff were also great. But the hotel reception staff behind the desk, and bar staff were a bit cold and dismissive, and not inclined to help. I believe they deliberately ignored me when I tried to ask them questions or order a drink. Rooms were very nice, but one more water bottle would have been appreciated. And more signage to indicate how to get to the rooms would be nice. We had to walk a long way to get to the rooms because there was the only route shown on the signs. But there was a much shorter route that had no signage or indication. Location was amazing. This is inside an old castle and it’s awesome to see the old corridors and courtyards.
Worth the efforts and trouble to get a room reservation, it was a very unique experience staying here. The hotel was renovated from the very first hospital in Santiago, nicely renovated and decorated, everything functions well and smoothly. Oh and the key is surprisingly quite weighty, unlike any other hotel keys. The cathedral is just outside of the hotel. For everyone that just finished Camino de Santiago, staying here is like a perfect place to wind down. From the window, you can get an exclusive, calm view of the side of cathedral. The only thing is that the cathedral ring bells every 15 seconds, so if you are someone sensitive to sound during sleep, you may want to consider put on earplugs.
