About Activity
Explore the Taironaka Archaeological Reserve, an ancient Tayrona settlement nestled in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. Departing from Cañaveral, enjoy a scenic 1.5-hour drive (approximately 60 km) through lush landscapes, passing rivers such as Piedras, Mendihuaca, Guachaca, Buritaca, and Don Diego, until reaching Taironaka. Upon arrival, embark on a guided tour of the archaeological site, featuring terraces, aqueducts, and a ceremonial house that showcase the ingenuity of the Tayrona people. Engage with the Kogui indigenous community, descendants of the Tayrona, to learn about their traditions and way of life. Optional activities include kayaking or tubing on the Don Diego River, providing a serene experience amidst the tropical surroundings. Conclude your visit with a trip to the small museum displaying Tayrona artifacts such as urns, flutes, and ceremonial dishes.
