We did a horse riding tour organized by Juan David and thought it was fantastic. I have extensive experience but our 2 children never rode a horse before. Particularly my youngest was very afraid upfront. Juan David calmed him down patiently, explaining how to create a connection with the horse and hugging it before mounting. They carefully considered what horse to appoint to the children so they would have a calm and safe experience. The tour through Tayrone to Playa Naranjas, where the river gets into the sea, was beautiful. Juan David explained a lot about the plants and trees, for example their medicinal properties. At the beach we got off, the horses were given some rest. The scenery was magnificent, we even saw an alligator far away in the lake. During the 3 hours tour we spent 2 hours on the horse, which we knew upfront. The price seemed very fair; we don’t want a rock-bottom price when it concerns an activity with animals as this may be to the detriment of the care they receive. The horses looked healthy and well fed. Would definitively recommend.

Disappointing experience. Way too expensive for the poor service provided. While the scenery is okay, I was highly unsatisfied with the overall experience. The route itself made no sense—it was just an absurd out-and-back trek along the exact same path, and the total distance was shorter than one kilometer. Furthermore, we weren't allowed to enter the water at all, neither in the sea nor the river, which was a huge letdown. To make matters worse, the horses were quite old and refused to actually trot or gallop. They are so conditioned to just mindlessly follow the guide that they don't respond to your commands at all. For the price they charge, you expect a much better experience, a proper route, and healthier, more responsive horses. I wouldn't recommend them.
A wonderful experience! The guide was friendly and knowledgeable. Horses were friendly. A great time for those who love the outdoors!
The beach was very pretty but the horses were not tamed. They kept bucking and fighting a lot. Not very safe. Also, I thought for the price it was not worth it.
Leading this horseback ride to Playa Los Naranjos is always a joy for me. Sharing the wonders of this beautiful landscape with visitors is incredibly rewarding. Along the trail, I love pointing out the medicinal plants that have been used for generations by local communities—it’s amazing to see how nature provides so much. The birdlife here is equally fascinating, and I take pride in helping guests spot and identify the different species, from colorful parrots to majestic herons. Seeing their excitement as we reach the beach, with its golden sand and turquoise waters, makes every tour special. It’s a privilege to guide people through this magical place and share the stories of its flora and fauna.
The experience was absolutely amazing! Our guide Juan David and Elda were super nice and explained us a lot about the surroundings. The horse ride was simply stunning, with scenic views within the jungle and on the river and beach. The experience was fully tailored to us, and to the fact that we were comfortable with horses, allowing us to adjust the pace as wanted. Super worthy and highly recommended, thank you Juan David and Elda for this unforgettable experience!
Honestly was the best horseback riding experience we ever had! Even it started to rain a lot it was just magical! Love it!
This one is one of the bucket list that is amazing. The experience of riding the horse from the forest to the river to finish on the ocean. What a trip. And Juanda is extraordinary his knowledge of the area is a master. 5 starts recommended. He made my year.
It was a very beautiful experience. The views are amazing and the guide is very warming and uplifting. You don't need any experience riding a horse, just relax and let him take you. The guide told us about some of the indegenous history which was very insightful. On the way back we ate some fresh mango from the tree and were lucky enough to see some small monkeys in the trees! Definitely recommend to anyone looking for an adventure.
Other than getting to ride the horses through the river, it was uneventful. The area was very pretty. we didn't see anything unusual. No monkies. We did have a nice time. The horses appeared to be well cared for and the guide was knowledgeable of the horses and nature. You can cross over where the river and see come together to reach Los Naranjos Beach, just cross away from large rocks and when the water starts heading back to the sea after a wave. It's okay. Some folks couldn't figure that out. I would recommend it as a nice change of things to do.
Wow! Horseback on the beach and in the river at Los Naranjos in Parque Tayrona! The horses were well trained, knew their job and helped keep everyone safe and happy. The staff were kind, knowledgable and friendly. Great experience!
una experiencia increíble en verdad para realizar con amigos an incredible time for spent with friends the horses are in good way they take care of them and help in all the tour
Our horseback riding trip was a great adventure! We walked in the river and through paths in the forest. The scenery was amazing and Juan David made the whole trip fun and interesting. Highly recommended!
Wonderful experience! We left our hotel at 9am and returned after 2pm. There was 7 of us, 5 adults and 2 kids (4 and 6). The 6yo got to ride her own horse and she was delighted, Juan was wonderful guiding her horse and helping navigate the high waters. The 4yo stayed on the horse with his Dad which worked out great too. Another guide, Elena, was on the horse in the middle of the pack to make sure the horses behave. Be prepared to spend 1.5-2hrs on the horse, both on land and thru the water, 1hr break at the beach then 1.5hr back. I wish we wore our water shoes as your legs will definitely get wet when the horse walks through the river leading to the beach near Tayrona Park. Also, at the beach, I wish we took our swim suits, but instead we just got our clothes wet :-) most of the ride is in the sun so I recommend lots of sunscreen. Horses were wonderful for most part, a little wild but that just made the experience fun. Great time, the guides were both absolutely amazing and the experience was most definitely worth the price!
Wow! Juan David & Elda were excellent guides for a wonderful experience. I’ve never ridden a horse before but they made me feel extremely comfortable, helped guide my horse when he was feeling timid or anxious, and by the end of the tour helped me feel as confident as someone who’s been riding for years. While on horseback I felt like I was in Red Dead Redemption or The Hateful 8 or something like that. Beautiful cinematic views, crossing rivers, trekking through jungle, and arriving on the beach was a fun adventure. In addition Juan David made everything fun & helped everyone feel relaxed with his passionate and friendly energy. 11/10 experience, I’d recommend this for anyone who is looking for a fun way to get to know Tayrona park.
We had a lovely ride on horses Maria and Santiago from Los Naranjos beach following the Rio Piedra to the bridge and back. It was great fun wading through the water and going into the forest. It’s is a unique experience. Our guide was called Elda who was very informative and clearly loves the horses and takes great care of them treating them like family! At the very end we had a short canter along the beach which was a great end to a delightful day out. Definitely to be recommended.
We had a great time going on this horse riding trip for about 1.5 hours. Our guide was a friend of Juan David, Galina, very nice guy who takes very good care of his horses. Started on the playa de Los Naranjos, and go up the Piedras river and into the forest and then come back to the see. When we took a short break on the river, Galina took the horses equipment off so they can rest and eat some good grass. All in all a very nice short morning horseback adventure. Muchas gracias Juan David and Galina, Theodore and Gabrielle,
One of the best experiences of my life, definitely a must do in Santa Marta. A beautiful view all ride long with an amazing and super friendly tour guide. I went with one friend and we were the only ones in the tour making it a super private and amazing ride! After horse riding for an hour we arrived at an amazing beach where we relaxed for 2 hours. Amazing outstanding views, thank you for the experience definitely one we will never forget 😊
What an amazing experience!!! Juan David know very well the area and was always respectful and kind. The view were breathtaking. Hope to repeat the experience. Absolutely worth it. Increíblemente bella experienia! Juan David es super querido y conoce muy bien la zona. Deseando volver. Totalmente recomendado.
Unbelievable experience! You will ride saddle deep in water in the river, so be prepared with a backpack. Riding on the beach was great but this is a lot of riding thru the river mainly and jungle with a break to swim in the river with locals. We learned about indigenous plants with medicinal qualities for antibiotics and for fending off mosquitos. We saw lots of birds and even the mico titi monkey. Our guide was very skilled and took fabulous photos and video, just give him your phone. Amazing!
We met Juan David and his tour company back in 2018 and we did 2 Tours with him, Los Naranjos with horses and La Piedra Ansestral Mama DuWanabi on horses we had a great experience because we were able to access places that you never be able with out him, the petroglific stones are a truly great experience, since 2018 every time we take a trip to Santa Marta Juan David is a most see local even if we don't have time to take a tour is a person to take out for lunch or even drinks. We look forward to do more tours with him and get to incredible places his company can take us.
We stayed around Tayrona Parc for a week, and one friend recommand us to call Juan David if we want have a beautiful day with Horses. It was true he's very kind he explain everything (nature history and the region) and he's very responsable with the horses. We had a little problem because one of us fall from the horse and hurt himself and Juan David took care of us Like a Doctor !!! Thanks again to Him for this beautiful day Erwan, Valentina and Yanis from Villa Yira ;)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This tour is definitely recommended! Our guide, Juan David, made the experience truly special. He talked enthusiastically about nature, the medicinal effects of different plants and the culture of the indigenous people. You notice that he has a lot of knowledge and knows how to convey it in a fun way. The drive through the rainforest was beautiful and the beach at the end was truly breathtaking. The horses were quiet, friendly and well trained, making the trip perfect for both beginners and experienced riders. Everything was excellently organized and we enjoyed it immensely. If we ever come back, we will book this tour again without a doubt. An absolute must-do!
SCAM. I have paid 77 Euros for 3h route and it has been less than 2. The horses have not passed the jog at any time, despite having requested to gallop on several occasions. We haven't galloped on the beach. The route is very short and simple: same round trip. They pretended to be standing on the beach for an hour, on foot, doing nothing. When we have claimed, we have been offered 10% or a tour for tomorrow, but we will no longer be there. Very poor management and very poor customer service. We have never felt so ripped off on any other trip/experience. DISAPPOINTMENT.
Unprofessionalism on the part of the organizers. Little humility for not assuming the mistakes of this tour, exorbitant price for what they offer. We generated the complaint as the tour specifies that it is 3h, however our surprise was that it was only two hours. In fact, it didn't even get to two hours because part of it was a dramatic car. Not only is it expensive, it's much less time than expected in the end, which generates frustration because you clearly see that you're being robbed. Tour not recommended because of the problems I explain and ends up being expensive because the quality of the tour leaves much to be desired. Horses in my opinion not in very good condition, travel anything special or different, normal. These people, pretend that on a beach (end of the tour) without being able to bathe and with nothing to do beyond 4 photos, you are the time we talked about without riding horses. The horseback riding tour is 3h, you can understand breaks but not taking piss of this calibre. It is not worth it, without exception route through the Tayrona on foot much more beautiful and enjoyable and if you are lucky enough to go through other areas of Colombia, you can ride horses, example coffee axis. Much better. In fact, Tayrona offers routes through the reserve, horses seem in good shape if you fancy too much is a much better option than Kogui Native Land
Excellent mountain riding, horses are very docile and Juan David is a great guide, knows the place very well and makes you feel safe on your horse. We saw a couple of very nice ravines and the visit to the Duguanawi stone of the Kogui culture was the best. Mauricio the kogui guide is a very friendly or wise person. Lunch was delicious and the place to rest was very rich. 😋
Great ride, good horses very nice trails (river, forest and beach) all good. Nice and attentive guide. Top!
Super good riding experience!! We went with our 2 year old and he loved it, it was wonderful! Ricardo an excellent guide and the horses nice and meek.
The riding was really great fun. There were no other people who booked the excursion at the same time as us, so we had a private tour.🤩 From the starting point through the water of the river we went into the forest. Beautiful surroundings in which you only hear the stepping of the horses and the sounds of nature and its inhabitants. We had both ridden horses before and our hotel was on the beach where we would chill for 2 hours. That's why we left out the 2 hours on the beach. Instead, we galloped down the beach a few times 🤩 and then back to the starting point. We drove more than 2 hours and it was really great. The owner of the horses is a very sweet man who really loves his horses and takes good care of them. The horses also looked really good and they were super sweet. A little cocky now and then, but that's part of it. :) Certainly worth repeating. :)
It was an amazing and unforgettable experience! I would do it again... I left us beautiful memories my partner and I were very happy cpm this experience! The scenery, the animals, the places where we went was just wonderful!
All the horses you see in the Tayrona are poorly looked after - emaciated and get no water during the day! And nothing to eat. You should be ashamed! Whoever rides there has lost all respect for living beings
Extraordinary day in lush nature! Juan David was very professional, warm and funny. He gave us many explanations about medicinal plants and local communities. The horses were perfect and fit, we enjoyed some gallops in the forest and on the beach 😍. We enjoyed it so much that we did a second day riding with Tierra Nativa!
Incredible experience that immerses you deeply in the Tayron Park. Not only do you enjoy the extraordinary nature of the place, but also its fascinating culture. Juan David, the Guide, super friendly, we had no idea how to ride and made us feel super comfortable. Lo We had a great time, I recommend it 100%!
The Guide is native with excellent command of various dialects. He very kindly explained to us about the ancestral territory that was inhabited by the Tayrona community, of which today there are indigenous people from four communities: Arhuaco, Kankuamo, Kogui and Wiwa. In the riding he showed us medicinal plants and the uses given for each. He introduced us to indigenous people from the area with whom we share a magical moment and receive food (palm coconuts) and barter when we give him our food. He is also an excellent certified drone pilot and shot some beautiful nature and sunset videos. It generated a lot of confidence to cross a river that entered the sea inhabited small harmless alligators, which moved away as horses passed through the water. And also excellent shots at the seaside. Excellent adventure in a magical paradise.
Great visit with horses to a beautiful beach. We passed breathtaking landscapes completely alone. The Guide always sought our comfort and helped us take good photos. Very good and breezy horses.
Everything brilliant, very good experience! Incredible!! Juan is impeccable and his colleagues too! The threshing is incredible
🌴🐎🌊 If you are looking for a unique experience in Colombia, I recommend riding along the beach at the mouth of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta River. It was one of the most intense experiences of my life, where I was able to gallop on a horse and enjoy the spectacular view at the end of the tour. 🌅 On the one hand, the jungle, the tropics and its rivers, and on the other, the waves, the blue and the sunset of the ocean. The guide was exceptional, a true professional with a clear vital purpose in his life. If you are looking for an exciting adventure and a breathtaking view, don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime experience!
What a wonderful experience. Super recommended!! Exotic and magnificent landscapes. With the best guide, Juan. Thank you thank you thank you
Very good! The best experience of our lives. Juan David is very friendly and concerned about the well-being of horses and customers! The tour is spectacular, with incredible landscape! The horses are very safe and easy to walk for those who do not know how to ride. We are 3 friends and the 3 agreed that it was essential to have done this experience with juan on our trip to Colombia. 30000% recommended
The treatment of horses is outrageous. I was there a few days ago and we witnessed many situations of mistreatment of horses. There was too much swamp, the horses fell and yet they didn’t clean them, the swamp fell in their eyes and they didn’t even remove that to continue walking, they beat them, they have them in spaces without water and without food in the sun and water. Overall the treatment is terrible and the conditions are deplorable. They see horses as money-making things, but they don't take care of them. I know there is a proposal to withdraw them, but they have refused to do so and are not committed to having them in good condition. Even when I saw that a horse that had swamp in its eyes because it had fallen I told the guide to wash his eyes and offered him water to do so he would not do it and was angry. He didn't care that this little animal was feeling bad, he beat him so that he would still not seek a solution that would generate welfare for the horse.
In my opinion it was the best tour in Santa Marta. Horseback riding along the Rivers, into the Jungle and then riding by the sea was spectacular. The landscapes are wonderful and the guide is a very experienced and very friendly person. My family was amazed.
An amazing plan, a unique experience. Juan David and Mrs. Esther are excellent guides. Highly recommended.
