excellent tour, fantastic scenery. A great afternoon experiencing this very unique landscape. The best thing was the way Leo our guide looked after everyone, especially as he had to switch from Spanish to English. Eric our driver was great and prepared a nice cocktail and snacks at the end of the tour. Highly recommend it.

The best place to enjoy the much anticipated Chilean sunset is in the Salt Mountain range, the location of the Mars and Moon valleys. The valleys contain a variety of stone, sand-like formations - a result of water and wind. As the sun sinks below the horizon, experience the wonder of the area and its close resemblance to the moon. In the evening, one of the most expected moments is the sunset and the best place to appreciate it is the mountain range of the Salt, with its Mars and Moon Valleys that are saline and sacrilegious conformations product of the mineralogical folding that has taken place for one hundred million years and that originated small mountains of capricious and sculptural forms that at sunset resemble a Lunar landscape. We will visit 3 main points, starting with a view to the Cordillera de la Sal in the Valley of death. Incredible landcapes from the desert we can find here, and amazing postals too!
After the Cordillera de la Sal, we will visit the Licanantay viewpoint where you can see the mountains of salt from above. Beautiful landscapes, where the desert gives us the opportunity to see how great and incredible is it, full of colors and history behind its sand, rocks and mountains.
Finally, we will visit the Valley of the Moon, where 3 sites are visited. First, a tour of the salt caves is subsequently the salt statues "Las Tres Marias", the amphitheater and the large sand dune in the central part of the Moon Valley. We wait for the sunset at the Coyote stone. After an incredible scenic sunset, we begin the trip back to your Hotel in San Pedro de Atacama.
Finally, after getting marvelled by the colors and the majesty of the desert, enjoying the sunset in the Moon Valley at the Coyote stone viewpoint, we will begin our trip back to San Pedro de Atacama.

The places we visited were beautiful however our tour guide, Valeria was not knowledgable and did not speak English well. She did not explain the geography of the land or what we were seeing other than a few obligatory words. She did not engage the crowd. Her sense of time and distance was horribly off and did not help in allowing the tour group to anticipate the plan or what was next. She was polite enough and accommodated our request to be picked up later at the beginning of the tour so we could check into our hotel.
It was a very nice tour of the valley with a lovely cocktail break afterwards and ended with a beautiful sunset viewing.
Such a cool place. Neil Armstrong said it was the most similar place to the moon on planet Earth. Our guide was amazing. Loved this trip.
Only a half day tour but absolutely breath taking scenery. One can imagine this to be what Mars or the Moon surface would look like.
The Moon Valley tour was cancelled so we were offered an alternative. It was OK but not what we expected. Suddenly we were asked to climb a steep hill on a very narrow path and with wind gusts that could potentially knock you off the path. Not an experience I would repeat.
First time visiting Atacama; I had two great tour guides Damian Berrios and Edgar. They were very knowledgeable about the are and did a great job explaining to the group the different landscapes and formations. They were very kind, helping us take pictures and preparing a nice spread at sunset. Highly recommend this tour!
Great we have liked this trip Great we have liked this trip Great we have liked this trip Thank you Thank you
This was a great way to see the area. The hike is about 2 hours total and lots of rest for photos. Bring water, a hat and sunblock. It’s pretty sandy so I wore my hiking boots.
Out of all the Atacama desert tours, this one seemed a little rushed and lacking in any narration. The sights themselves were beautiful but it would have been better with some engagement from the tour guide. Not sure if the other tours are any better.
There were only two English speaking tourists in the bus and tour was almost all the time in Spanish. Too little time in every location. Sunset was the average. It is better to visit the moon valley without a tourist group and spend there one day.
Pick-up and drop off for tour was supposed to be from Hotel. Guide met us at hotel and walked us to pick-up spot 2 blocks away. After waiting for 15 minutes, tour bus did not arrive and we ended up walking close to 1 Km to depot to meet tour bus. Guide was friendly, but did not seem particularly knowledgeable about geology of the location. Quality of tour was much lower than subsequent tours provided by other tour operators.
Friendly guide but really didn't seem to know much about the geology of the area. Problem with pick up - was supposed to be at hotel and we had to walk a long way instead. Had to wait when one couple in the bus was allowed to get out to take photos while everyone else on the bus watched and waited.
For the price it didn't expect much but in the end, it was great. We visited 4 different places and besides the 3 Maria's, which was a Foto-stop only, had time to explore a bit of the area. Ending with a great sunset, the satisfaction was complete. In addition to that, the charismatic guides are doing a great job in a couple of different languages. All in all more than worth it
It was the first time I got to feel the desert sun and to see the sand dunes. Moon Valley is absolutely impressive and we liked the ride and walk across it very much. The view from above and the sunset over the Valley is definitely something worth seeing!
Gray Lines organised for us to be on a large coach with maybe 20 other people, operated by another company. The places we visited were pretty mind-boggling, but the number of people - and the guide not being strict on when the bus would leave each place - meant we spent a lot of time waiting for other guests, which was pretty frustrating. Thee guide spoke English but was only ok - not particularly entertaining or deep in his knowledge
Lots of Trip Advisor reviews highly recommend this tour, which is why we booked it, but it was very underwhelming. The sites were not as spectacular as others made out and this was disappointing. The guide was very enthusiastic and passionate but his English was not fantastic. I think this tour will be like Marmite, you either love it or you don’t.
Not enough stops for lavatory break is the only bad aspect of this otherwise spectacular tour. High altitude means breathtaking is spectacular but spectacularly breathtaking scenery to be seen. Truly breathtaking
In company of our excellent driver : Samuel and the dynamic and very interesting Rodrigo. We enjoyed every single second of it !
We took the sunset tour of moon valley and it was breath taking. The light reflected off the surrounding mountains is so beautiful. This was our second tour with the same guid. I’ve forgotten her name but she was very knowledgeable about the area and spoke excellent English. I would 100% recommend.
All the tours from San Pedro seem to be run really well. We were picked up from our hostel in a nice air conditioned minibus which then went on to collect others. The tour guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic and spoke a variety of languages fluently, and our driver drove safely. And of course the Lunar (and Mars) Valley was stunning! I would recommend to everyone.
Sure the moon valley is a must see, but don't bother with the sunset trip, rather visit in the morning or on your own. Collected from hotel at 3pm and got back to hotel at 8.30pm - could have been done in 3 to maybe 3.5 hours. Lots of aimless wandering and waiting with little direction or explanation from the guides. I had to listen in to other guided tours to get info.Large bus which was full with nearly 50 people.Sunset wasn't really worth it. Maybe watching the colours change as the sun was setting was interesting, but we reached the view point only minutes before the sun hit the horizon. View point was packed with hundreds of people.Worst tour ever! Don't bother.
This is an unmissable tour when you are in Atacama. You set off in the afternoon and explore the Moon Valley party On foot partly by coach an send up watching the sunset over the Cordillera. The landscapes are out of this worlld. The guide was very informative an stool time to answe all the questions the group members had. Recommended!
We booked three excursions on tripadvisor and none of them was communicated to TurisTours which is the locak agency in San Pedro. So we didn't get picked up for the first trip and missed a whole day. Then TurisTours confirmed us the other two trips but didn't pick us up for one of them because "they had the wrong adress". We were in San Pedro only for two days and in the end we made only half of the trips we had planned. Now we have to manage to get our money back. I strongly reccomend you to book directly with a local agency in San Pedro (NOT TURISTOURS!!!). There are lots of them, it's cheaper and safer. You can even book the day before ecc since they have a lot of busses and guides there is place for everyone. The Moon Valley however is really nice.
The Bolivian Winter phenomenon creates a microclimate in San Pedro vallley, and so the tours were moved to the fierce heat of the late morning. Being an Englishwoman this was no deterrent, so I trekked up the ridge for the amazing views. The nearby Vallley of Mars is also reallly interesting and my tour finished by driving us to a panorama over the whole area. So despite missing the sunset and the stars I was able to appreciate this amazing landscape. However maybe the likelihood of cloudy conditions and mudslides causing disruption to schedules should be better advertised. And how about having a beautiful museum for everyone to enjoy when there are poor weather conditions or if you have children who could get a fun experience seeing star panoramas in a cool safe location when they are awake? The precolombian museum in Santiago has a temporary exhibition that is of a high standard, so it is disappointing there is nothing in Atacama.

Very good Moon Valley tour, excellent guide, fantastic formations .
Sunset a bit disappointing as we were expecting more colour changes.
Quite a steep climb up the sand dune.

Recommended, well organized, nice guide, clean and safe car, good timing, great landscape and view points. For improvment: could provide details on the geological and cultural background of the area, spend less time at the 'tres marias' but more time to walk up the big dune. Overall highly recommended trip.

Tour was okay, got good pictures, but felt the tour was a little too rushed and there were just too many people in the bus to have a unique experience. The sunset was so late that we just waited for 2 hours at the end doing nothing. Also many times, a lot of time was consumed waiting for people to get on to the bus. I wish they had a smaller group. Some of the hikes were reasonably uphill, so I would not say it is a cake walk with children.

A 2 star rating for the spectaculat scenery, but zero for the guide.
He had to be reminded to explain ings in English as well as Spanish, and delayed our viewing of Death Valley with a long drawn out story concerning his grandfather, while the othe spanish speaking visitos were able to look around. We then had 5 minutes to see features of the valley before getting back on the bus.On arrival in Moon Valley carpark, we were route marched to the top of the ridge, with no explaination of the geology along the way. He appeared disintersted, and mentioned he had been guiding for 10 years - perhaps it is time for new career.

Having been on over a dozen tours across South America, I had found this Moon Valley Tour run by Turistour to be unsatisfactory. To begin with, I had not expected such a large group (of 16+) and such little intimacy. It didn't help that our guide, Leonardo, turned out not to be much of a guide. He lagged behind much of the way and failed to direct the majority of the group. With the itinerary I had expected drop-dropping landscapes, and the experience had fallen much short of what i had imagined. Luckily the sunset finale at Moon Valley had saved me from ripping my hairs out. The exotic crevasses in the valley gradually mutated in iridescent shades into darkness as the sun descended on to the horizon. Was it worth the USD$30 i had splashed out? Definitely not.

Excellent tour. Andrea the guide and Daniel the driver, very friendly. Beautiful place, excellent explanations from Andrea and to close a delicious snack or snack!!!
We loved the tour, surreal place!! I would come back a thousand times!! Everything well organized!! Guide Victor was great!! It was really worth it!!
The place was very beautiful, except that I found that perhaps the organization on the part of the tourism company was not the best, since, due to the company's organization, we were a little delayed in being able to enter, the delay was short but it is still something that can be improved with more organization and preparation. Furthermore, the information they gave said to bring cash for the entrance, then when the guide arrived he said that you had to pay by card, in my case I had to be able to pay with both but it is a situation that perhaps can improve.
Die Salzwüste hat uns sehr berindruckt. Sehr schön auch der kleine Spaziergang zur Düne. Der Sonnenuntergang war aufgrund des Wetters leider unspektakulär
The Valley of the Moon is eerily mystical. Just as visiting the base of the Torres del Paine in Magellan is moving and disturbing, the Valley of the Moon with a less sacrificed tour than the southern one, is very good. The advice is not to do it on the first day. We made that mistake, and since there are hikes that although at a normal height would not generate problems at 2400 meters high is more complicated and two members of the family signed up. It is recommended to the second day and in the afternoon. Eat before or near noon, and bring 1.5 liters of water per person. And drink water before you get thirsty, otherwise the pointing starts (hangover with headache). We understood that we had to do the tour of Laguna Cejar, Ojos del Salar and Tebinquinche, on the first day, because everything is 2,400 meters high, and by vehicle. That's why on the second day the Valley of the Moon. But we must not miss it and enjoy.
It's a wonderful place, if you've been before I tell you that now is super delimited the place or walk.
This is a classic St. Peter's that will always deliver you a beautiful sunset at the end of the day. It is worth doing it on a tour (not very massive, of maximum 10 or 12 people) because the tour is somewhat steep and if it is very massive there are people who are left behind and you have to be waiting. An unmissable to go to!!!
Beautiful walk. Wonderful landscapes, with the guide very friendly. Easy trails to walk. It's very worth it.
I did this tour on my last day in San Pedro, and I believe it was the best choice. We started the trip around 15:30 to the Valley of the Moon, where we went to the Three Marias and the Great Dune. The view of the Great Duna is spectacular! Then we went to the Valley of Mars/Death and we finished the visit around 20:00 at the Mirador de Kari (Pedra do Coiote). In all these places we had a general knowledge class from the guide, Daniel. The Mirador sunset was the most beautiful I've ever seen in life, because after the sun sets behind the mountains, the side of the Licancabur volcano remains with a red, orange, purple and, finally, dark tone, for about 10 minutes. It's a vision I've never seen anywhere else.
Although the Valley of the Moon is beautiful, the Enterprise that organizes it is not highly recommended: we left an hour late and finished about 20 minutes early (almost an hour and a half less than contracted), which involved going to the different places in a hurry. This option is not recommended.
I advise contacting the guide Jo de San Pedro. A simple excursion becomes an extraordinary adventure
Valley of the Moon Very, very touristy. The cloud of people spoils the fun of the place. Not really worth the trip, there are more interesting towers: geyser, piedra Roja, volcano cero toco .... Christine
Every site says it's a great view, but I was disappointed when I went on tour wondering where it was, but then I went on my bike and was impressed. I paid a lot for the tour and I was just an idiot.
Highly recommended to go to see the sunset, it is amazing, and very close to the village.
I would like to express my thanks to the Layana tourism agency as the guide claus is an excellent informant of what concerns the valley of the moon congratulations for him and for his collaborators was an excellent experience which I recommend forever....success and see you soon...hugs
For those who love arid landscapes, like me, you will be delighted. Between sand, reddish rocks and salt, this panorama has nothing in common and is a must for anyone passing by San Pedro!
Despite the onset of the Altiplanic winter during the first week of February, the Valley of the Moon park did not close and we could see its exceptional landscape and grottoes. But for the bad weather, it was not sunset that we saw at sunset, but lightning. But still, it was worth it.
At various stops we were able to the Valle de la Luna repeatedly out experience new perspectives. In principle good guide and good Driver. Too bad we went to sunset have gone to the Valley of Death - he was absolutely unspectacular there!!
The moon Valley tour is super interesting. The sunset thing is something they added as an attraction but it’s not a big deal; just another sunset.
