You will only be going to a field just outside of town but it takes awhile because you will be driving around picking people up Than when you get there you get to wait around for 30-45 minutes for them to take pictures of everybody. You will then go to the “observatory “ which. Is a round straw walled area with a telescope that amateur would use. They will point it at around 5 object and let each person look which takes a bit of time since I had 12 in my group. So most of the experience in just waiting around for 2 1/2 of the 3 hours.
Excellent experience viewing stars through telescope, still got to see lots despite nearly full moon but unfortunately the Milky Way was not very visible due to bright moon. The video and talk about astronomy in a dome tent afterwards with generous snacks was a much appreciated bonus. Thanks for a great time, highly recommended
The guide and his assistant provided comprehensive information about astronomy. We had the opportunity to view stars through the telescope. We also took pictures, hopefully I receive my pictures via email soon.
Mother nature decides whether you will see the Milky Way or not. This company very efficiently let us know that the sky would be cloudy and the tour had to cancel. Of course, they offered the full refund and made it easy with a link to do so or the option to reschedule. I was unable to reschedule due to the length of my holiday, but I decided to donate the cost of the excursion to the Milky Way via this organization! Go to ATACAMA DESERT!
This tour was fantastic- the guides were very punctual and extremely knowledgeable and courteous. Supper was very nice. Stargazing experience was great and awe inspiring. Must for all who visit Atacama.
Superb experience from start to finish. Great communication and a wonderful guide, Gustavo. Information delivered with passion and knowledge. Must be the best star gazing company in San Pedro.
Great tour, excellent knowledgeable guide. Pickup included, and bus drive itself is short which is a plus, just several minutes outside San Pedro de Atacama. Night sky here is unreal, breathtaking. I took several photos, but professionally taken photos are included in this tour as well.
Really good tour! Highly recommend doing this. The guide was really knowledgeable and clear at explaining complicated subjects!
The guides were extremely knowledgeable and passionate about sharing the night sky and astronomy. This is a remarkable experience I irte everyone visiting the area to take.
This tour seemed to me very improvised. I had to contact the agency to coordinate my pickup. There was no explanation of the program when I was picked up. When we got to the remote spot where the telescopes are, the guide in English started explaining about the stars rather than introducing himself... The entire process was akward. In addition the guide I had was teaching us some mistakes (I confirmed the things he was saying with the guide in Spanish and official sources). Later there was a spread which I didn't have anything from because i was rushed to go back to the van. The best part of the excursion was the night sky but trust me there are so many agencies in Atacama that offer this excursion I would recommend searching for another one.
A great experience!! Highly informative and only a small group so we were treated to a lot of viewing of different stars and the spectacular moon. Snacks and drinks were ample and varied. Highly recommend!
Fantastic tour. Our tour guide was able to explain to the physical and historic theories surrounding the astronomy, including everything we observed through the telescopes in perfect and interesting detail. The views were amazing and we love our photos. The group size was small and the drinks and snacks and comfy chairs made it a really cosy experience. Thanks very much. Photos sent within 24 hours :)
I've never seen the stars like that before, such an amazing tour, we had the opportunity to observe jupiter, tarantula nebula and more. Big thanks to Astrotour Chile!!! Very professional.
An amazing experience. Let me start by saying astronomy and star gazing is not really my thing. I was there to accompany my wife who finds the whole thing fascinating. We were picked up from our hotel with a warm welcome and then taken to the site. Stepping out of the van and into the compound in near total darkness and then looking up, wow I have never seen the sky look so beautiful and so intriguing. The compound was very well appointed with seats and blankets available and also onsite WC. The tour began and it was fantastic everything was explained, questions answered and the host was very funny and they clearly love what they do and it comes across. The telescopes we used to view the sky were fantastic and constantly adjusted to make sure we got the best view’s possible and we did. To round the evening off we had snacks ranging from popcorn to cheese and biscuits, drinks aplenty, coffee, chocolate, juice and alcohol. All of this was fantastic but it’s the hosts that make it worth the passion they show in the work they do, nothing is too much trouble and no question goes unanswered. If you’ve made it this far trust must me and book the tour and let them show you the galaxies far, far away.
Had a fantastic night stargazing, Had to walk to a central location for pick up which was not in the best part of town so did it in daylight. We found a local cafe/ hotel to have a meal until it was time for our pick up, the steak I had was fantastic.we left with about 10 mins to go and there were about another 50 couples waiting. You received a message on the Get My Guide app telling you which minibus to get on. We had a great night and was dropped back at our hotel when finished. I found the tour via the Get My Guide App but would recommend most trips be booked when you arrive at San Pedro de Atacama as you then get the correct pick up time, one of our trips arrived 2 hrs late and was not with the operator we booked.
Fascinating introduction to the night sky with such clarity and thankfully no moo. Excellent explanation and use of telescopes. Drinks and nibbles were most welcome. Photo of ourselves and the Milky Way were amazing.
A fabulous tour and one I’d highly recommend! The pickup was easy to arrange, and they were great communicators, so we knew to the minute when the van was here to collect us. After a short, comfortable ride, we were in a perfect spot to observe the night sky. The guide and translator were both really wonderful— humor and narrative elements made all the information about the science and history behind astronomy feel like a fairytale rather than a dull, dry lecture, and the time simply flew by! I’m so thrilled we did this and suggest booking with them, too, so you don’t miss out on such a special experience!
Good chill night exploring more about the stars.
Patricio was amazing a genius with a loads knowledge of the planets and the universe, also he transmitted to all us his passion for the universe. A truly genuine human being we had a wonderful experience and learn a lot about with him. Thanks so much Patricio
Excellent, we really enjoy it
This was well organised and the guides (we had Franklin), really knowledgeable. Cannot recommend highly enough. Thank you
Guide was very knowledgeable. Refreshments were fabulous!
This was an excellent tour. Even though there was a full moon, we saw multiple nebulae and planets, and even got a picture of the full moon seen through the telescope on our phones. The wine and snacks were an added treat. The guide was very knowledgeable and informative, and quickly refocused the telescope for each person so everything went very smoothly. The only negative was they changed the pickup point from my hotel to a meeting point a few streets away. I was not happy about walking around at night by myself— so they came to my hotel, which I appreciated!
Really cool view through the telescopes! Was really amazing and got great photos of the full moon! Would recommend going either in a night with a bright moon for the photos or one with a dark moon for a clearer naked eye view of the night sky
Franklin and the whole team were fantastic, knowledgeable, informative, and engaging. The night began with a few clouds but cleared leaving awesome views of galaxies, stars, and Jupiter too. Recommend
Franklin was very knowledgeable and passionate about our night sky. He was a great teacher—a difficult task for such complexities. We were even able to see the brown stripes on Jupiter! Highly recommend--just don't go if it's cloudy or a full moon!
An excellent trip. Good advance communication, on time pick up, fantastic English speaking astronomer who was knowledgeable and passionate with a sense of humour. Amazing stars with naked eye and through the telescope. We saw and learnt so much.
Unfortunately our experience was cancelled due to cloud cover and we have been offered a refund. Shame as we’re looking forward to it
Excellent guide, very educational and beautiful sights through the telescope. Our full tour was in English.
This was just amazing to see the night sky but to look at objects so far away with a telescope and a very knowledgeable host. It was one of the coolest things we have ever done as a family. Highly recommend! We didn't want it to end!
A truly awesome experience - at first we were a little disappointed that the moon was so bright we wouldn’t see the ‘Milky Way’ but in the end that didn’t matter as the narrator gave a really interesting explanation of the cosmos and the mind blowing numbers behind what we could see with our eyes which was even better when the telescope itself exposed the true beauty of the night skies. Champagne provided for our honeymoon (I still don’t know how they found out) helped finish the tour as a once in a lifetime visit to Atacama for us. Thank you for making so much effort into the tour.
Picked up from hotel in Atacama and taken to an area outside the city. They have a telescope setup and a guide will focus various objects in the sky. Similar experience to an observatory but with lesser powerful telescopes. You also get pictures taken with a professional camera setup as a souvenir.
I was disappointed by the tour. I think most of your experience really depends on the tour guide. The one that we had was just ok, he was knowledgeable but not very "fun" to explain the different aspects of the sky, stars and others, which is needed at 10:30pm!! I say this as a person that really enjoys learning, but really he was not motivating to me. The location of the tour is ok as well, it should be farther out of San Pedro, so the town lights do not affect visibility. Lastly, the photos weren't really good, the photographer should have cautioned that glasses would reflect the flash, the faces are just ok, also you can see truck lights in the photo. The best thing was to see Saturn with the telescope and the food. I would recommend a different tour, ask your hotel or ask in San Pedro for a tour w/ a good tour guide, and where is the exact location they will be taking you.
The guides were passionate and very knowledgeable. Through three telescopes, we saw a wide variety of objects, including two different galaxies, the brightest star, and Saturn (with its beautiful ring). Throughout the tour, there were very interesting explanations and plenty of opportunities to ask questions. The photos were an added bonus, and we enjoyed the snacks as well. Thank you so much! Dries and Emma
Most of the time of the experience is spent waiting around to look through the two telescopes as each person in the group takes their turn. You look at circa 4 stars/clusters in each scope. You have an explanation from the leader and the secondary leader, who translates into English, before looking at the stars. About 15-20 minutes of the activity was spent picking people up from hotels and it was then about a 10-15 minutes ride to the site. It was a similar time for the return journey. The leader spoke Spanish and a secondary leader translated into English. The explanation was good although at times the leader started speaking next to his telescope to people looking through it or explaining things to several people and the secondary leader could not translate as he was busy with people looking through his scope. The stargazing was brief due to the waiting around. I probably had 3-4 minutes in total looking at stars. You do receive a good quality photograph taken at the end of the experience. Food was also provided after we looked at the stars. However we were abruptly told we had to leave after all photographs were taken with no warning. If you want a good quality photo of yourself with the stars then the tour is worth it. For others, you can have a longer and similar output if you set up a phone, with night vision, or a good mirrorless camera on a tripod and use an app to view the constellations via your phone. You could also take good quality photos with some practice . You could rent a car to do this or find a spot just outside San Pedro with little to no light pollution.
The stars were gorgeous but we were the only 3 English speakers in the group and didn’t realize we would be in a group with mostly Spanish speakers. The guide was bilingual but spent most of the time speaking Spanish so sometimes we didn’t know what we were looking at when he was pointing at starts with the laser. The English parts felt rushed. How good your experience is will probably depend on what guide you get.
I’ve been to several astrotours in Atacama desert and this was the worst. Firstly - you are still very close to town centre so there is still fair amount of light pollution. The English translator (as friendly as he was) would basically make stuff up when teaching on astronomy - giving wrong info. It felt rushed. The personal pictures were not as a good quality compared to other tours. Basically felt as though they’re just trying to make a quick buck from gullible tourists
I think this tour is underrated. It is informative and fun, and our guide/translator was incredibly nice and engaging. They made the whole experience enjoyable and memorable. Highly recommend!
It was by far the best tour that we scheduled when we were at Atacama dessert. Both the guides were wonderful and really in the mood to explain everything. At the end they had prepared for us little snacks and beverages. The sky, the stars and the whole experience was unforgettable. Do not miss this! Ps really cute dog 😍
Fantastic experience with really friendly hosts who really know their stuff. They also provided food and drinks at the end.
AWESOME! They added snacks and drinks. The stars were amazing. They will take your photo with a professional camera at the end. Very good English translation aswell. Bring a jacket. A must do if you are in Atacama!!
This was an incredible experience. Even to just experience the night sky with such clarity was remarkable. And then the physics explanations of the different astronomical bodies that we were able to see through the telescope were made so understandable that I had a nee appreciation for something seemingly as simple as the night sky.
Interesting facts, guides with lots of knowledge. Got great pictures of the full moon (we still got to see many stars even though it was full moon), with help from the guide. Free wine, whiskey, coffee, tea etc after the activity.
I booked the experience of time, and received confirmation and a ticket. The day of i received no communication. I waited outside for about 15 minutes passed the pick up time and messaged to see if everything was ok. 45 minutes after pickup they messaged amd said it was cancelled because of clouds. It was the clearest night in my 5 days in San Pedro, i could not see a single cloud. I still have not received signs of a refund.
We really enjoyed this adventure. There was a professor who was very knowledgeable and he was translated into English by a guide. Two telescopes to look through.
A very simple visit, with basic explanations and not too much to look at the sky. No digital images, it's too expensive for what you get. I don't recommend this visit.
Our guides were punctual, friendly and extremely knowledgeable! There were 3 telescopes to 12 people to share. We took turns looking at various celestial bodies across the cosmos and never felt rushed! At the end of the tour, we enjoyed a glass of wine and took a photo under the stars.
Unfortunately, not as expected. The pick-up and drop-off each took 45 minutes. Too many people, over 20 people. You had to wait most of the time. For the photo or to look through the telescope. There were two guides, one spoke Spanish and the other translated more or less into English. However, it was difficult to understand everything because there were too many people and both spoke at the same time. Drinks were only available at the end, hot drinks to mix yourself or plain alcohol. Unfortunately, the photo with the Milky Way was a bit blurry. All of that for 40€/ 40,000CLP. A shame, maybe others will enjoy it more.
Beautiful and very interesting the guy is super knowledgable but go when there’s no moon or very little
