Astronomical Observation Tour In The Atacama Desert

Hands down the best part of Atacama. All the little details to make a comfortable and amazing experience on a cold Atacama night. The stars were amazing and the photoshoot was such a great bonus.

Our driver didn’t show up and pick us up. They did respond today saying they had let me know on WhatsApp that they were going to be an hour and 15 late. I haven’t used my WhatsApp in a couple of years so I refreshed and updated it. I did not receive any kind of notification. I also never received an email or a call (they have both my email and phone number). I am awaiting a refund.

Horizonte's astronomical tour was the best out of 3 different tours we did in the area. The most notable strengths of this tour (compared to the others) were the number and quality of the telescopes, the quality of the photographs, and the organization/execution/flow of the experience. Other experiences had slightly more things to view or slightly better snacks/beverages, but those probably aren't as important to most guests. If you can only do 1 astro tour, this one's a safe choice.

Did two tours while in San Pedro. This was the lesser of the two. First the tour time on visitor was off. I registered for a 1900 (thinking it started early with a meet and greet and then started when night fall occurred). Nope officially started around 2100. Felt very commercial and processed. Met up for the tour, no one said anything, just followed the group to the shuttle. Quiet drive to a dark area. No instructions or explanation. We then walk along a cute lit trail of wood crate pallets. To a large circle of chairs. Then the group explains everything (30minutes into the experience). We did see some amazing stars, lights, galaxies and awesome telescopes. The photographer was great and photos came out exceptionally well too. The group just felt too large to be personable and you couldn’t see the staff or group you were with. Again they should introduce themselves before going out. To add to that, I ate something wrong (thinking it was a chicken empanada) before the tour. Started having severe stomach pains (luckily I’m a Doctor so I could treat myself), but when I walked back to the shuttle seeking help leaving. I was met with we will be leaving in 15-20 minutes. I couldn’t get an Uber being 15mins away from town and driver didn’t care till I said hospital. Then 20 minutes later (so still the same end time) I was taken back promptly to town and was offered the hospital (thank you for that), but again being a clinician I knew I had meds to treat myself, so went home. Overall 3/5, I wouldn’t recommend this company for this experience. Go with a 5 star reviewed company.

The Astronomical Observation Tour in the Atacama Desert was exceptionally well organized, informative, and interactive. The guides explained everything clearly and made the experience engaging and easy to understand. The night sky was absolutely breathtaking — the stars were beyond anything I’ve seen before. This was truly one of the best tours I’ve had in a long time, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Atacama.

Experience was good. we did the astro tour for night sky watch and guide was knowledgeable and allowed for questions. The tour lasted about an hour. The tour also includes group/couple pictures as well as pictures of stars/nebulae/planets that we see. We were told pictures will be given within 48 hrs. 10 days later, after repeated whatsapp texts, I hear nothing from this tour agency and their are still no pictures that they took. I wish they will stay true to their tour promise.

I had waited many years to see the stars in San Pedro and this team made it very special. Polite, full of knowledge and patient. The photography was spectacular and truly captures what the sky looks like. Thanks for the great work and memories you gave me.

The view was spectacular. Our astronomer guide, Vladimir, was extremely knowledgeable and shared his passion for the universe in a way that was exciting, interesting and comprehensible for all- in multiple languages! We saw objects through high quality telescopes and got clear answers for any and all questions we had about what we were seeing. To top it all off, Lidia took beautiful photos of each of us with the night sky that we each received within less than 24 hours. It was a highly recommendable experience.

The agency is very organized. The tours are punctual and the guides we had experiences with were great: Pedro, Samuel, and Francisca. We did the main tours with them.

It is something sensational! The desert has a wonderful sky. What happened is that on the night we were supposed to do the tour, the sky did not have good visibility, but the agency promptly notified us and offered a new date.

We also did the astronomical tour with Horizonte Atacama and, although the organization was good, on this occasion the experience did not meet our expectations. We understand that there was a full moon and that this limits sky observation, but we would have liked them to explain that to us from the beginning or to adapt the activity a little more. We hoped to be able to observe not only stars, galaxies, and the Moon, but also some planets, especially considering the fame that the Atacama desert sky has for being one of the best in the world for astronomical observation. Furthermore, we felt that the tour was very fast and that everything happened with too much haste. In the end, while we were barely enjoying the included dinner, the staff was already packing everything up to end the activity, which gave us the feeling that we had to leave as soon as possible. Compared to the other tours we did with Horizonte Atacama, this was the only one that left us a little disappointed. Unfortunately, it was not an experience that my children and I would recommend.

The horizon tourism is a great agency, super attentive and everything is easily resolved by whatsapp (neither were we at the agency). We left with all the tours already closed from Brazil and we did not regret it! Even I was able to change a ride because the road was closed in the day! The driver are excellent and the food wonderful! The only suggestion would be to put fewer people in the Van ( suddenly charging a little more expensive to be able to operate this way) since on one of the tours my husband was all squeezed and the routes are all long and uncomfortable! The backbands are very uncomfortable (but there are people who don't connect or only find out later). So if you care about comfort and be the last hotel to get caught on the journey you run the risk of getting in the worst place in the van! Another positive thing is that they make groups of each tour and share the guide’s location and arrival order in the hotels (which avoids long waits from other travellers. I created a very high expectation for the astronomical tour and was a little frustrated! It's really cold! The only thing I didn't like about this tour was the photographer, since as she took the photo and checked if I moved or flashed, I found few shots per person (2 poses only). I recommend looking at the lens and not the sky! The ones we looked up were horrible kkk but because of the cold it is quite uncomfortable to wait for people in the group to take their photos (even two per person is already enough to take a while). As for the telescopes is explanations are excellent! I've seen beautiful things I'll never forget!

Unexplained experience with words, all very well organized, the conditions of the place are brutal for the observation of the sky, our guide Lidia super knowledgeable of the astrological subject and in the end some snacks and a toast to the universe

Wonderful. Unique experience

We arrived at the agency of Horizonte Atacama, at Rua Caracoles, at the time indicated on the tickets for the Astronomico Tour and, only there, we were informed that the pssseo would leave 1 hour and 45 minutes later. They did not admit the error at any time, claiming that I had been communicated by email, which is not true. I opened the email, including the spam box, and demonstrated that no communication had been made. The other tours, I contracted with a competitor company (Puka Rumi), and I could notice the difference in quality and efficiency in communication and customer care. As for the Tour itself, everything went well, except for the fact that we hired (and this was also included in our tickets) a guide in Portuguese, and the one who provided the service only spoke Spanish and English. In any case, the guide named Pia (I don't know if outsourced) performed her work very well at the site of astronomical observation, demonstrating knowledge and good dealings with the group.

The experience is beautiful! We had a great reception from the girls who taught him tour, we were given too much information. And well, we already know how to find the South if we go astray at night. I recommend this agency.

Wonderful experience! The guide knew everything, we were impressed with so much knowledge of her. The photos are perfect! In the end a charming cocktail, I will never forget what she said as we admired the sky: "Looks like a lie né". It seemed like a very beautiful lie.

I took 5 tour with my family and it was tremendous experience, they are prepared in every way. Tour guide Francisca Ibacache was super prepared, friendly, helped us taking pictures 🩷, the drivers, Pia and Lidia of the astronomical, all tremendous quality of people, it was certainly the best decision we made

Beautiful experience in the Atacama desert, guides you a wonderful, very entertaining, a rich hot chocolate to admire the skies of Chile!! Recommended 10000/100

The structure of the tour is very good, but the hot chocolate they offer is of poor quality and before they finish the tour they begin to remove the chairs not allowing people to continue contemplating. The cocktail they offer is very weak and they do not consider that the children who pay for the tour have no right to water or a juice.

The guide Pia was not prepared, nor charismatic with the group of Brazilians, focusing only on speaking in English and Spanish that they did not understand. When I asked to speak Spanish more slowly, he refused. We bought in the agency HORIZONTE precisely because the guides speak Portuguese. During the cocktail, which lasted less than 10 minutes, he began to remove the table. It is a beautiful tour, but the company should review the quality of the professionals who act.

I don't recommend it. The experience lived is different from that described. Little organization, under specific knowledge, we simply saw a couple of images on telescopes, then we were offered a wine (not pisco sour as described) and a couple of low quality snacks, and it would be, van. The girls did everything, so it felt like friction, messy group, with low interaction. I highlight that there were some photos that they sent us in the next few days. Truth be told, for $100 for 2 better go to a nice dinner and then see the sky.
