Enjoyed the class. Purchased a $300 tequila in a display glass case with light. it was already wrapped so could not open and examine - got it home and the light did not work (somewhat the main reason of the purchase). Contacted them and they never got back to me. Also promised suggested wineries to visit in other places- never got that either. The class itself was very enjoyable- but expensive. Buyer beware on any of their suggested upsale products tho.

Where do I begin…this experience is such a rich and complete immersion in the world and knowledge of Tequila. I have experience going to wineries in multiple places, both in the US and in Mexico (my uncle is a sommelier), and this is probably one of the most amazing ones! Ximena is not only fun and knowledgeable, but I, because of a bad experience with my credit card, got to see her humanity and integrity during our experience. This says a lot to me. It shows that she not only loves what she does, but she loves the people she serves. The class went well into detail of how tequila is made and we got to taste and be explained about the flavor profiles of multiple different tequilas. I came out of this experience so incredibly content and I would come and bring my friends on many other occasions. Ximena, you know our experience and I am so appreciative of your understanding and your level of patience with us. Thank you so so much!
This is a wonderful class - much more than a typical tasting. My friend and I learned how to determine the quality of pretty much any alcoholic beverage. So educational and fun. And the tequilas were excellent. This was a rare and valuable experience!
Last night we did a tequila tasting with Jimena, and it was one of the best experiences we’ve ever had. Jimena is warm, fun, and incredibly knowledgeable—she’s a true sommelier. We had an amazing time and learned so much. We live in San Miguel de Allende now but used to live in California near wine country, and I spent years in the restaurant business. I’ve done countless tastings with other sommeliers, “experts” at distilleries, brand ambassadors, and more—but not once has anyone ever explained how to properly sniff a spirit or wine and, more importantly, what it actually means. I always thought I was missing something. After this tasting, I feel completely empowered and excited to start recognizing notes I’ve been overlooking for years. I can’t wait to return for her wine and mezcal tastings, and I will absolutely be booking this experience for every out-of-town visitor we have.
Fun afternoon with learning. Alex is knowledgeable, funny, etc. A great way to start learning about what makes a good Tequila.
This was a great introduction to tequila - I felt like I learnt a lot in between sampling some excellent drinks and learning how to gauge quality. Alex was an excellent host - a real ‘no-BS’ sommelier who really knows his stuff (an accredited sommelier in 4 different countries) and is happy to share his knowledge. Highly recommend - but be warned that you’re unlikely to leave sober!
Alex is an outstanding teacher. He skillfully deconstructed our knowledge to reconstruct it. He broke down the mystery (and hype) of sommeliers. His mastery is rooted in both science and art without pretense. His enthusiasm is infectious. Highly recommend. Do yourself a favor and do this early in your trip.
Alex delivered a masterclass on not only tequila tasting but also on how we use our senses. His speech was TED Talk quality and it kept us riveted for nearly 3 hours. And, once we began tasting the tequila, we had a newfound appreciation for the process as well as the subtleties on why we associate different flavors and smells with what we enjoy. I cannot emphasize enough how valuable of an experience this was. I've paid thousands to be in seminars that didn't come close to Alex's presentation. And, prior to this tasting, I didn't even know if I liked tequila or not. It's worth every peso.
We joined Alex Galina for tequila tasting during a recent visit to San Miguel de Allende and it was wonderful! We learned so much about the tequila-making process and the differences between tequila and mezcal. Alex has a way of educating that builds on what you already might have learned at wine or whiskey tastings and broadening upon your existing knowledge. It's great that he isn't trying to sell you on any particular product but instead wants to educate you and empower you to develop your palate and make your own choices about what you enjoy. There were only four at our tasting and it worked so well...so much fun and super informative. If you have an hour or two, spend it with Alex. It's well worth the time and was a highlight of our visit to San Miguel. Next time we'll go back for the wine tasting. Five stars! Thank you, Alex.
Don’t hesitate to book this class and tasting. It was one of the highlights of our stay. Run by certified professionals, you get an amazing education about tequila classification and production process. The tasting is beautifully presented with quality stem ware and nibbles and the tequilas themselves were outstanding, not brand specific, and examples of each of the five types of tequila were discussed and tasted. Our hostess was warm and knowledgeable, and her class structure allowed and encouraged participation and questions which made it even more enjoyable.
Alex was very engaging and open to questions. My wife and I are both chemical engineers and Alex was super!!
Alex was fun, funny, but most important, knowledgeable and interested in helping us understand the nuances of tequila and other Mexican spirits. We had a great time and learned a lot. We will do this again.
Being in the heart of Mexico, what better way to spend an afternoon than to do some tequila and mescal tasting. But our afternoon with the proprietor Alex, was much more than that. It was an education on tequila and mescal. What’s the difference, how are they made, and why are their origins and flavors unique. Alex is passionate about the subject and will help you identify the unique flavors of a wide variety of tequilas and mescals. He will teach you the difference between taste and quality. I will never look at tequila the same and thank Alex for the time he spent with us.
Alex is an expert and an incredible teacher of agave spirits. We own a high end Tequila/Mezcal bar in a tourist city in Mexico and know a fair share about the craft. We have done too many tastings to count. Alex is on another level. By far the most informative and fun tasting we have done. We didn't want to leave, he challenged much of our previous beliefs around taste and quality, while breaking things down in such easy and digestible ways. You will learn more than just the tequila making process, culture and history. With Alex you will learn about taste, flavor and quality and how it is much more universal and objective than you thought. And as you walk out at the end of the tour, you might actually ask yourself as we did, if you had just passed a sommelier exam!
Alex was an extremely knowledgeable, engaging, and funny guide. We all learned a lot about tequila and more broadly about how to taste alcoholic beverages of all kinds. The space is a cozy and charming tasting room, and the selections of tequilas were excellent. Two notes: first, it was not actually a blind tasting. And second, it would have been nice if he allocated a little more time to the tasting, as it was a bit rushed at the end. All in all it was a terrific experience.
My husband and I had a private tequila and mezcal tasting with Alex in March, 2024. It was INCREDIBLE. This was like a class on LIFE. Alex is such a wonderful teacher, guiding us through every aspect of tequila and mexcal -- the plant itself, the process of making the liquors. But more than just the nuts and bolts of tequila and mezcal, Alex taught us HOW TO taste, how to identify families of aromas and taste. It was, frankly, a little mind-blowing. On top of that, we were treated to Alex's wonderful analogies and sense of humor. I highly, HIGHLY RECOMMEND this masterclass. It will teach you more about yourself than anything else. We loved every single second and it was worth every penny.
We had a wonderful evening with Alex learning about and tasting tequila and mezcal. He is incredibly knowledgeable, warm, and welcoming. We bought a lovely bottle of tequila we know we'll enjoy and plan to come back for a blind wine tasting. Great fun!
An absolute must do when visting San Miguel. Alex has extensive knowledge of spirits including tequila and has even more enthusiam about sharing his knowledge. We loved the entire experience.
My wife and I had a great experience at the tequila tasting room. It was fun, extremely informative and well presented. I highly recommend Icavi! You will definitely walk away from this session with a much better understanding of tequila and an enjoyable memory.
Alex Galina is a very educated “sommelier” but he doesn’t call himself that. He is certified in many different countries as a wine expert. His master class in Tequila Tasting was both educational and fun. I highly recommend if you want a deep dive in what makes a good tequila!
It is an understatement to call this experience simply a tequila tasting. It was an education that will help us better appreciate the taste of tequila, and by extension, the taste of wine. Alex is passionate about his field, and his knowledge is extensive. We did the tequila experience this time and loved it, but next time in San Miguel we will do the wine experience. Thank you, Alex, for an unforgettable 2 hours.
