Beth lead our trail ride, along with two other cowboys. The scenery was gorgeous and pristine. The horses were well-behaved, healthy, and easy to handle. The pace of the ride was leisurely, but they were willing to customize the experience with various speeds at the request of the participants. The meal back at the ranch house following the trail ride was excellent and authentic. Beth has lived in San Miguel de Allende for 20 years. She made the experience easy and enjoyable. This experience was the highlight of our San Miguel de Allende vacation.

The highlight of our trip. My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time. Beautiful views. The guides were absolutely amazing and assisted the entire time and truly work with any level of skill. To top it off we had a delicious authentic homemade meal when we came back. If you are hesitant, book it!! 10/10
This is the 5th time that me and my family have toured with Beth and her Wranglers! It's a great group and they make the experience fun and relaxing. The countryside is beautiful this time of year with everything so green and beautiful with wild flowers popping up everywhere!!! It's a terrific way to spend half a day out in nature and all of it's beauty!! The lunch is beautifully presented in "country style" with many dishes to choose from and they are all delicious!
We had an amazing time riding horses with Beth as our guide. It was so peaceful and relaxing. The two cowboys helping us were awesome. They allowed us to trot and go faster if we wanted to. I am a newbie and felt totally safe and comfortable. The homemade lunch at the ranch afterwards was delicious. The driver dropped us off at our hotel at the end of the day. Highly recommend as a great way to relax and connect with nature on your vacation.
Our third trip with Beth and the cowboys! I am a city slicker and just love this experience! It is a one of a kind and highly recommend it. A wonderful meal all safe with purified water for the juices. The cowboys and Beth have the horses trained above and beyond safety compared to other horse experiences anywhere. If you have any fears, don’t! GO! My favourite experience in SMA. If you haven’t done the pools do that as well we did 2x and it’s amazing!!!
Awesome riding experience with experienced Cowboys 🤠 and calm horses. Great tour for all levels of riding. Beth made sure all were safe, provided history of local community and landmarks along the trail. Lunch was tasty and filling. Highly recommend.
A wonderful experience riding horses with spectacular views. The family was very patient and kind. If you wanted to gallop, you could. If you only wanted to walk, you could. They served us an authentic and delicious lunch. I would go again!
We had an absolutely fantastic day riding with Beth, Catalino and Reyes. This is a really special experience to have not far from San Miguel. My husband and I felt safe and relaxed the entire time, the vaqueros were very professional and friendly - the area we rode in was gorgeous and we got to see some small rural communities along the way. The lunch at the ranch after the ride was wonderful. I would recommend this day trip to anyone who loves to ride and I would confidently say that even a novice rider will do fine with their guidance.
A marvelous 4 hours spent in the beautiful lush green countryside with Beth and her wranglers!! This was my 4th ride with them -- this one was with my 19 year old granddaughter who is off to college in the Fall!! We had a memorable day and enjoyed every moment of it!!! Crossing the roaring river was really something -- but we did it!!! This outfit is the BEST!!!
I had the pleasure of experiencing the horseback riding adventure with my daughter, and it was absolutely fantastic! Overall, this was an unforgettable experience that I would highly recommend to anyone visiting San Miguel de Allende.
My sister and I enjoyed a leisurely 2-hour guided ride through the foothills outside of San Miguel. I am not an experienced rider and was immediately put at ease by Beth and her caballeros who accompanied us on our ride. Will plan to go back when my sister returns for a visit and there is water in the arollo. Maybe next time I will get up the gumption to trot like she did! The ride is followed up with a delicious and filling traditional meal complete with aguas refrescas. Thank you Beth for a delightful experience. Oh and besides your water bottle, hat, long pants and comfortable shoes - you might want to bring a bandana especially if it is the dry season.
Beth awesome host with the cowboys and an excellent lunch. A lot of the food for lunch is from the ranch. It a pretty trip and wonderful sites. It's a beautiful in the country side do it!
My spouse and I have taken the morning ride two times with our nieces and their partner. I was a little reluctant at first because of previous tour experiences (in the USA) that were not enjoyable. We had two trail options and picked the one with water crossings, hills and valleys. It was fun and relaxing while we toured the countryside and mountain views. Beth made sure we had a great ride (and totally safe). Afterwards, we enjoyed some of the best Mexican food I have ever eaten as we relaxed for lunch. I could eat a whole meal of their cheese quesadillas. We are planning to return in March to take the camping tour with another niece. Happy Trails!
Beautiful sunset ride on wonderful horses in the countryside of San Miguel de Allende. The caballeros were so attentive of our needs for 2.5 hours. The ranch dinner after was delicious. Highly recommend this experience!
ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE – AVOID AT ALL COSTS! My oh my, where do I even begin? The experience I had with "Leisurely Country Horseback-riding" in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, was an absolute disaster from start to finish. Buckle up because you won't believe the series of misadventures I encountered. Firstly, I booked this excursion on January 5th, 2024, for a ride scheduled on the very next day (that is: today, January 6th). Considering the short notice, I tried to give the owner, Beth Kaestner, the benefit of the doubt regarding her initial rudeness. Little did I know that this was just the tip of the iceberg. Beth promised a picturesque journey, picking me up from downtown San Miguel and transporting me to her supposed paradise of a ranch at Boca de la Cañada. On arrival, I was greeted by cowboys who, while charming, lacked English proficiency. Special shoutout to Reyes, a charismatic cowboy, but sadly, their "training" on horse riding was laughably inadequate. I found myself playing interpreter for fellow riders, aiding them with instructions that should have been provided clearly by the staff. Post-ride, we were treated to a delectable ranch-style meal. Credit where it's due, the food was fantastic. But the real chaos began as Beth handed me her card, signaling the end—or so I thought—of my tour. I questioned Beth about the horses' safety and proper documentation for the tour; she blatantly lied and said everything was in order. It wasn't long before our journey took an illegal turn. En route back to San Miguel de Allende, we were pulled over by police officers, revealing Beth's brazen operation without the necessary permits. She began to panic, her deceit unraveling as I found myself caught in her web of lies. Despite my profession as a lawyer, even I wasn't prepared for the audacity with which Beth demanded I lie to the authorities. Not only that. She DEMANDED I asked the officers HOW MUCH A BRIBE WOULD BE!!??. This woman shows no respect for the country, the language nor its laws. After the police officers incredibly said no, i found out she was utterly uninsured for the trips on a high speed highway. She does not have the proper plates for her cares (which was why she was detained in the first place), but she was also operating without the required certifications. The situation escalated as Beth's unpreparedness became glaringly evident, culminating in her vehicle being impounded, leaving us stranded in the scorching heat. Despite my fluency in both English and Spanish, I became Beth's reluctant translator, a role I never signed up for. She showed utter disregard for the local language, forcing me to bridge the communication gap during her tense standoff with the police. Her disregard for protocol, safety, and basic decency left me flabbergasted. Beth's desperate pleas for assistance, coupled with her blatant disregard for local laws and customer safety, left a sour taste in my mouth. She failed to offer any compensation or discount for the chaos she inflicted upon me, focusing solely on her impending fine and lost vehicle. She was extremely rude, demanding help instead of asking for it. I imagine the stress of the moment caused that. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, a taxi arrived to whisk us away. Even then, Beth's negligence continued, directing the taxi driver to a completely different destination to the one I requested to be dropped off. I guess this was because she had other clients waiting to ride on her uninsured tour. In conclusion, "Leisurely Country Horseback-riding" and its owner, Beth Kaestner, are a disaster waiting to happen. Her reckless behavior, illegal operations, and utter lack of professionalism make this a ride you'd be wise to avoid. Save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere for a genuine, safe, and lawful experience. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS! There are far better, legal (and cheaper) options in San Miguel to do a Horseback Ride Tour just as this one.
An amazing ride through beautiful countryside on beautifully trained, surefooted horses. Super appreciated Beth as a hostess and the cowboy's confidence and experience. This ride is perfect for any experience level!! The ride is tailored to making sure each person gets what they want out of the ride from walk to trot to canter!! As an advanced rider I have to say thanks so much to Beth and crew for a wonderful ride. And thanks to the kitchen crew for an excellent lunch to end the morning <3
We had a wonderful time riding in the hills outside of San Miguel de Allende. The staff were excellent from start to finish - arrived on time for pickup, took care of all needs of riders with different experience levels, answered all questions, were attentive on the trail for our safety, and prepared a delicious home-made lunch. The ride was a good 3 hours long through beautiful trails, crossing rivers, seeing views of mountains and canyons. If you like riding, outdoor adventures, and fun company, don't hesitate to book this trip. It will be one of the highlights of my time in San Miguel.
We had a great time with Beth and the cowboys! They were very knowledgeable about the area and led us on a great trail. We can’t wait to do it again next summer!
The horses were well trained. It is a long ride which we enjoyed. We did sunset tour which had beautiful views. A wonderful experience! The guides were friendly and helpful and dinner afterwards was a wonderful local treat. I highly recommend for people with some riding experience given the rugged terrain
The Half Day Trail Riding was a wonderful experience! Three of us did this, and we all enjoyed it tremendously. We did the afternoon tour, and had a fabulous meal after the ride. We were picked up by Victor, exactly on time, and he was a wonderful guide. We enjoyed everything about this experience. My 22-year old granddaughter said that this excursion was the favorite activity she did during our 9 day trip to San Miguel de Allende and Mexico City. The horses were great, and the 3 trail guides (Victor and two Mexican horsemen) were fantastic! Highly recommend!
Victor our quite was delightful. The cowboys were great also. I loved my sweet horse Apache. All the horses are well trained and cooperative. We were able to gallup a few times which was fun. After the ride we were treated to a wonderful lunch! I highly recommend this experience!
Everything on this trip ran like a well-oiled machine. Beth picked us up in town where we were staying at an Air BNB rental. We drove out to the Ejido on the Southern outskirts of town and met the horses and cowboys. The horses were well behaved, sure footed and in great physical condition (obviously well cared for). Our family of three adults were joined by another young couple making the excursion. Two out of the 5 had some riding experience and it was one person's first day to get on a horse. No problem for Beth; she provided clear instructions to all and gave extra attention staying closely with the first day rider for comfort and safety. There were four guides riding with our group of five. We travelled through the beautiful high-desert country side climbing and descending and overlooking some of the canyon areas along the Virgen river. It was the dry season when we went, I would like to do it again during or after the rainy season when the desert comes to life and there would be some running water in the arroyos. After the ride we had a delicious and fresh meal prepared by ladies from the Ejido. A great time was had by all.
The ride was amazing. Both cowboys were great and accommodating with each of our riding skills. Great views and dinner was wonderful. The only downside was that it was the dry season. Would definitely book again.
Beth is a consummate hostess. The wranglers made sure everyone was comfortable and enjoying themselves. They were even kind enough to let me and one cowboy go ahead running as I am experienced rider- and I didn’t ask. The scenery is beautiful and much very good. Will go again
A terrific experience for our family on many levels. The cowboys and villagers were very welcoming. The ride took us through beautiful countryside with myriad types of foliage and dramatic gorges and scenery. It was also great to ride through the little hamlets and see how families live in ranch and farm country outside of San Miguel. The hearty dinner served after the ride was made with local produce, meats and cheeses and was absolutely delicious. Finally, we were lucky in that we had a great guide accompany us -- a retired gentleman who had a very successful career in the United States and now lives in SMA. He was extremely interesting and informative.
Very enjoyable- from our pick up driver who also joined the ride to our to cowboys who went along and accommodated all our requests. I have not been on a horse in 30 years and they made it a piece of cake. Food was plentiful and delicious. We really enjoyed all of it. Valerie
From the time we got picked up to the time we got dropped off, the service was the very best. The trails were 100% legit, the cowboys, the guide and the horses were all exceptional. After the trail ride we were given a buffet style lunch which was very delicious. We had no experience on horses but didn’t need it. Don’t think twice take the tour!!
From start to end this was a great experience. Beth was easy to talk with and responded quickly. Since I have horses at home and ride a lot I was worried that it might just be a beginner experience, but it exceeded all my expectations - for speed, quality of mounts and all around enjoyable time. We were there with another family that had less experience so they were able to separate us so that we could go on a faster ride. Our guides were great- they checked in with us often about the speed and if we wanted to go faster, but they were safe and took care of their animals. I was also happy to see well-fed and happy horses that knew their job well. The equipment was also of good quality and comfortable for a trail ride.
We had a great day with Beth and two cowboys that work with her. The horses were healthy and happy, and the riding is suitable for complete beginners. Beautiful high desert scenery and dramatic canyons. We ended the day with a delicious lunch and fun memories.
This was a very well organized trail ride. It is an excellent way to see the countryside west of San Miguel. We enjoyed seeing the amazing Sabino (ancient cypress) tree. Our 3 guides, Reyes, Victor and Daniel were all knowledgeable, patient and excellent horsemen. They were very understanding of our individual riding levels and tailored the riding pace to our individual needs. You can also practice your Spanish or communicate in English. The communication with Beth and the pickup and drop off in San Miguel were flawless.
What a wonderful, and memorable experience. Beth and our vaqueros Reyes and Catalino were so kind, accommodating, and made us feel very comfortable as beginner riders. The whole experience didn’t feel highly ‘touristy’ if that makes sense? It felt as though we were visiting family or friends giving us a personal tour on horseback. Beth picked us up and dropped us off at our AirBNB, which was much appreciated. Lunch was delicious, too. Highly recommend!
We truly enjoyed our experience with Beth and her cowboys! The ride is beautiful, the horses well cared for and the ratio of staff to riders is excellent. Great for beginner riders with an opportunity to go faster if you are ready. Also nice picture opportunities and home cooked food.
Great trip from the start! My husband and I went on the sunset tour. We had two cowboys assigned to our trip and they guided us through the rugged terrain with ease! My husband is a novice horse rider and he learnt the basics and due to how well trained the horses are, he was able to gallop! After the 2 and a half hours of riding, we were greeted with a delicious evening meal! What a way to end the trip.
We had an absolute blast on our 2 1/2 hour ride through the mountains, near San Miguel De Allende, Mexico. The horses were calm, quiet and sure footed, and the 4 cowboys and Beth, their American partner, could not have been more tuned into safety and fun! Even beginners are welcome and well taken care of. Those of us who had more experience could trot and canter at different times when it was safe. At the end of the ride we are treated to a gorgeous Mexican country lunch made by the women of the community! This was absolutely the highlight of our month long stay in San Miguel.
Great half day trip from SMA. Convenient pickup from our hotel, short trip out to the ranch. Horses were well taken care of and riding equipment was in good shape. Beth and the cowboys were very helpful and friendly and catered the ride to our comfort level. It was a long ride (6 miles) and considering a great lunch at the finish was really a great value as well as a great experience.
Overall fantastic experience for myself and my daughter!! Victor was great …as were the cowboys Reyes and Catalonia.
My wife and I have not ridden horses in over a decade. We were well taken care and given riding instructions before we saddled up. The horses are very well mannered and easy to ride. We were lead by Beth and two cowboys who made sure we were safe at all times. The countryside is beautiful. We traversed hilltops, arroyos, small streams, canyons, and buffs. The views are breathtaking. You feel the land and sky. The pace of the horses settles your mind and you go into a zen mode as the horse picks it way through the terrain. There is not a noise to be heard from modern living; just the sound of wind and the clip clop of horses.
Beth and her cowboys are awesome! Had such a great experience! Certainly will be coming back and riding again!
If you are looking for an exceptional experience this is the one for you! The owner Kim is super friendly and really makes sure that you have a great day. The cowboys that rode with us are friendly and always watching out for you. We had great views.along the way and it ended with a delicious homemade lunch made by one of the cowboys wife. It was my husbands first time on a hoarse and he wants to go again.
This was a great experience, very personal. Pick this trip! We did go on a Coyote Canyon Adventures trip to the Archeological Site which was great, but a bit "mass produced." I expect their horse trips are similar. Beth is an interesting woman who owns Leisurely Country Horseback Riding and comes along when riders don't speak Spanish (the cowboys don't speak English), so our trip was just her, two cowboys plus me and my husband, with a lovely lunch afterwards. I highly recommend this trip. Her website is horsebackridingsma@gmail.com.
I loved the entire experience! The cactus hat rack was a great start. Our guide was thorough in his instructions and emphasized safety and our comfort. The trails were fabulous. Some rocky and steep. It was great fun cantering through the brush, cactus and the water!! We returned at sunset and were treated to a lovely homemade dinner. Such genuine generous hosts.
can’t think of a better escape from the city; we were teleported in a western movie, and the vistas were mindblowing
I took the half day ride and really enjoyed it! Beth was kind enough to accommodate a solo ride for me as my partner doesn't ride horses. We rode through the desert hills and finally through a little Mexican Village which included a 300 year old Chapel. The meal prepared by the Cowboy's wife was waiting for our return. Delicious! I was also greatly reassured to see the horses were well taken of.
I loved the horses, cowboys and scenery but honestly the ranch lunch was so fantastic, I think it was my favorite part. I was so impressed by the community where the ranch is located and with Beth's relationship with the residents. The horses are well cared for and in good condition, which is very important to me. This was so worth doing. Good for any level of rider and vegetarians.
Our half day horseback riding excursion in the mountains overlooking San Miguel de Allende was a very pleasurable experience. It began with a short introduction on how to ride and handle the horse as well as some guidelines for riding in a mountainous desert environment. Then owner Beth Kaestner and a group of cowboys led us through the beautiful terrain on a ride that included walking the horses, as well as faster paces up to galloping for those comfortable with the faster speeds. The trip concluded with a wonderful lunch at the ranch where we had begun. Very highly recommended.
My husband and I had a wonderful time with Beth and the cowboys. I was nervous and wanted to be lead. The confident riders could ride faster with the other cowboy. It was nice to have that option. Lunch was delicious! Overall this excursion exceeded our expectations and we would highly recommend.
The experience was great! Beth was lovely and picked us up . Reyes and Catolino were fantastic throughout the whole trail. The horses were very well behaved and super easy to ride. The food was absolutely delicious. Would 100% come back! Great SMA horse riding adventure.
We had such a wonderful time riding horses with Beth and the cowboys she works with. They customized the experience to our group, the surroundings were beautiful, and the lunch we got to eat at the ranch after our ride was delicious. We will definitely do this again the next time we are in the area!
Great full service expercience close to San Miguel de Allende. Booking on line was easy. Beth was very accomodating and friendly. The cowboys very helpful. The horses great. The views wonderful. The lunch excellant. Overall a great day andwe plan to come back.
We're an active older couple and we thoroughly enjoyed this outing. This is not a walk around a grassy field. This is truly a trail ride -- up & down mountains, fording a river, along rocky and narrow trails. However, the guides are fantastic helpers such that even a true beginner will feel comfortable and safe. Beth and her cowboys are friendly, professional, and understanding. And kudos to the cowboy's wives as they prepared a wonderful authentic Mexican ranch lunch for us after our ride. I can't say enough good things about this adventure. Thank you Beth. We can't wait to come back!
