Sam is AMAZING! He is so friendly and made us feel like we were family just meeting up for a day. The chocolate tour was the best tour we have ever done. While walking around the city, Sam was sure to add tons of history to everything we did which made the experience even more worth it. Do not hesitate - take this tour and enjoy the best chocolates of san miguel and learn a ton of indigenous history!!

It was great. Samm was really knowledgeable about the food and drinks, about San Miguel the city, and about the culture!! We had a great time and we ate very well!!
I enjoyed half of the tour. The heritage cocoa drink was not enjoyable, and we did not have other options. I recommend offering sips of the drink, and then people can choose to order it or another drink instead. The ice cream stop was also disappointing.
This is an extremely informative tour about the origin of cacao along with history of San Miguel. Our tour guide Sam was most delightful and he took us to all the hot spots that offered delicious and unique chocolate tastings.
We had a wonderful experience on the Chocolate Tour in San Miguel de Allende! 🍫 All the places we visited were great, and the food and chocolate were delicious. We especially loved the chocolate drinks and truffles, and the enmoladas were absolutely delicious! Kristina was an amazing guide—very friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about what she does. She made the experience even more enjoyable and shared a lot of interesting information throughout the tour. We had a fantastic time and would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting San Miguel de Allende. A great combination of chocolate, food, culture, and history. Highly recommended!
wonderful tour, amazing guide, fascinating history, delicious food, would recommend to anyone!
Elisa was wonderful and all the stops had delicious tastings.
Sam was a fantastic guide. Not only did he know about chocolate and the cuisine of the region, he had a great deal of knowledge about the history and culture of Mexico. Sam was friendly, professional and we tried food in places that were not “tourist traps”. We got a very local feel for San Miguel. We highly recommend Sam!
This tour helped highlight the various ways chocolate is enjoyed in Mexican culture, specifically in San Miguel de Allende. Our five stops on the tour included one of the oldest chocolatiers in town, enmoladas, and a chocolate and churros shop. Would recommend!
Veil was our leader on the tour and she was so informative and so excited about every place that we visited that we just loved her. She’s been living in SMA for several years and she has a well-rounded opinion about different places. I think without her we never would’ve enjoyed the city as much.
Sam was great explaining how 1) cocoa plants got to Mexico and S America and 2) how Mexican recipes were developed to include chocolate not only in sweets but other dishes as well. What really embellished the tour was the extra discussion of local society, culture, and history of San Miguel. Great tour for education, tasty treats and taking in the extraordinary beauty of San Miguel de Allende.
Fabulous tour…excellent chocolate tastings and also San Miguel history….couldnt have asked for a better guide….
Sam was very knowledgeable on chocolate and local history and made the trip a pleasure. Had a fun afternoon and got many tips for the rest of out trip.
The walking tour is easy & does not require a lot of walking. There are a lot of seating down breaks during the tour.
Awesome educational experience! Tasty too! Learned about the cultural and religious background of cacao and its journey to Spain and France.
Sam was a fantastic tour guide and taught us so much. Loved all the history of San Miguel.
My friend and I had a great time on this tour. Sam is knowledgeable, friendly and fun. We visited 4 places to taste difference types of food using chocolate (the 5th stop didn’t work out because it’s a tiny place and we were 10 people). I have dietary limitations and he offered alternatives at each place. It was nice to get history of foods as well as the city. We moved at a leisurely pace and enjoyed the sites between stops. Highly recommend this tour to anyone.
Sam was outstanding! His knowledge, warmth, passion, and expertise made learning about Chocolate and this exceptional city both fun and educational! Highly recommend! Come hungry! Thank you, Sam for sharing your insight and love for all things San Miguel with our family!
Went on a fun and informative tour with Sam. He was very knowledgeable not only about chocolate and how it's made, but a lot of the history of San Miguel and the surrounding areas. You will try not only delicious chocolate in candy form, but also in mole' and ice cream as well. Sam was awesome and very helpful with general knowledge and questions regarding our stay as well.
Sam, our tour guide, was amazing—very knowledgeable and clearly passionate about what he does. However, I think the touring company could do a better job selecting more unique stops. The locations included in the tour felt fairly average, commercialized, and common, and they came across as choices made mainly to fit within a budget.
Sam has such a unique background as an historian and he is a pastry chef. His unique take on SMA food, culture, and history was both informative and fascinating. Loved where we went, things we learned, the stories behind the chocolate and of course the tastes. Pretty delicious. Sam relays information in a creative way with a sense of humor. Definitely a 5 out of 5 tour!
Wonderful, Delicious experience. Sam, made the afternoon a great exploration of the Chocolate, origins and history so interesting. This tour was the Best part of being in San Miguel De Allende. Fun Time.
Exceptional guide, she showed early and stayed late. Excited and knowledgeable about her topic. English good too.
So much fun! Our guide was friendly, extremely knowledgeable, accommodating and wonderful. Highly recommend!
Jessica was a well-informed and gracious guide. We enjoyed all five stops and especially the hot chocolate and candies!
A great chocolate and history tour! Great storytelling, delicious tastings, and a knowledgeable, engaging guide. Fun, informative, and well worth it. Highly recommend!
Our family of 6 (and 3 generations) really enjoyed our Chocolate and Cobblestones tour with Sam. There was a nice variety of food (a chocolate store, chocolate drink, mole, ice cream and a chocolate croissant). We enjoyed learning about the city (facts and sites we did not get on our two hour walking tour the day before) from an American ex-pat who was able to share some very interesting notes and stories with us. Come hungry!
Sam was a great tour guide! So much good chocolate! He also pointed out (non-chocolate) spots of interest that he thought we’d enjoy along the way. Very knowledgeable and fun. Highly recommend this tour.
Our guide seemed quite knowledgeable about the history of chocolate, which seemed to be the main focus of her tour, and we appreciated that. There was some nice variety to the types of food and drinks we tried. We especially enjoyed with special fruit waters we were welcomed to purchase during our break! The flavors were exotic and so tasty, and the cost was only about 30-35 pesos, I believe, for a small cup. The setting was delightful for the break. As for the chocolate we got to taste, unfortunately, the selections didn't seem very special or tasty to our palates. Also, the variety seemed lacking to us, in terms of the individual items we were offered. I especially enjoyed the chocolate croissant, but we didn't find the chocolate truffles, hot cocoa, mole to be very tasty or exceptional, and the quantities weren't especially generous either. Tasting the ice cream was kind of fun, though, and I enjoyed the Marigold flavored ice cream in particular.
During this tour, we learned a lot and had a fantastic experience. Our guide, Eliza, was friendly, fun, and very attentive to all of us. She took us through the history of chocolate, starting with its origins here in Mexico. The tour was full of surprises, including chocolate drinks, tastings, delicious food, engaging conversations, and wonderful people. My only suggestion for the tour company is to avoid repeating the same restaurants, as we visited one place twice on different tours. Overall, it was a lot of fun. Book now!
Fabulous experience! Elisa did a great job telling us the story of chocolate and how it travelled around the world. Loved the chocolate places we visited each carefully selected to demonstrate the story. A real show and tell! Thank you!
My husband and I went on the Chocolate and cobblestones tour with the wonderful Alisa as our guide. The food tour included a chocolate drink, artesenal chocolate truffles, a chocolate pastry, black mole enmolados, agua fresco, and local hand crafted ice cream. The food was wonderful and we equally enjoyed learning about the history of cacao and chocolate in Mexico (and around the world).
It's a great experience. Elisa provided with great information about the origins of chocolate. She has a lot of knowledge, and it was a great experience, we got to know new places. 10 out of 10
Excellent tour, wonderful and knowledgeable guide Elisa, 4-5 stops in total, complete lunch. If you love chocolate, this is the tour for you!
We had a fantastic time on this tour! You really get to experience the tastes and history of chocolate in its many forms, visiting coffee shops, cafes, bakeries and more! I think the mole enchiladas at lunch were my favorite. And Elisa is so charming and knowledgeable with a treasure trove of stories to share. You will love her and this entire tour.
While my husband and a friend were getting a painting lesson, my friend and I decided to indulge ourselves with CHOCOLATE and a tour. Elisa Torres, our guide, was exceptional. We learned in a very interesting way about chocolate and its history upon the world. I was enthralled with her story-telling abilities. The chocolate was amazing. I had never had Mole and it was an experience. If you like chocolate this is the tour for you.
Our tour guide Elisa was absolutely wonderful! She explained the history of cacao and chocolate from its origins to today. We also were able to taste cacao and chocolate in various preparations! It was a delightful experience and I highly recommend taking the your when visiting San Miguel!
Elisa Torres was a fantastic guide. Great energy, excellent English and subject matter expert. Really enjoyed the Chocolate and Cobblestone tour and recommend both the tour and Elisa in particular. Don’t hesitate to book.
The tour was excellent and showcased the diverse history of chocolate in Mexico! We went with a group of 6 and had a fantastic experience walking the streets around the Parroquia!
Elisa took us from place to place offering us tastes of chocolate in different forms (from liquid to solid, sweet to savory), at each stop regaling us with history and facts about chocolate. I certainly didn’t expect to learn so much! It was fun and Elisa is an excellent guide!
The Chocolate and Cobblestone tour was great. Our tour guide was Sam and he was very knowledgeable with the history and provided much information about the culture and about the importance of chocolate. He recommended some great options to try, we tasted chocolate, ice cream, local cuisine, and saw the parade. Excellent experience for ages 4-100 and would definitely recommend. Request Sam if you do the tour.
Our experience was led by Sam, a former pastry chef and obvious chocolate lover. We learned about the history of chocolate, and in particular, why Mexican chocolate is so darn good. We visited several local establishments which highlighted chocolate in its various forms. We highly recommend this tour! FYI, Sam made sure to have some gluten free options at our stops so I wouldn’t miss out on the experience at each location.
Excellent tour. The guide was wonderful and knowledgeable. Learning the history of chocolate was very interesting. Oh yeah - the chocolate was really good too. Highly recommend tour and guide
This tour has great value! The amount of history we learned and the quality and variety of food we consumed were awesome! It is something I would take others to do again, and I am now much more interested in the history of the area. Thank you for a lovely time!
While our guide was knowledgeable and interesting, the title is very misleading. There is no "tour", we just went to 5 places all in one block. We wished we'd been told there were 5 courses, rather than a "snack". We had all eaten a late breakfast and everyone in our group left behind most of the food and drinks. It was all good - truffles, a full plate of enchiladas with mole, a large chocolate drink, then a chocolate croissant and finally ice cream! Just way too much in a short time.
Elisa was such a great tour guide! Her passion for her culture and chocolate was evident as she made the history of this food come alive. Her depth of knowledge was evident as she was able to answer all of our questions as well. The variety of chocolate presentations was great with something for everyone. Easy walking distance with all locations very near around El Centro.
Great experience! Our tour guide, Sam, was amazing. We tried some very delicious local delicacies and learned their history and the culture. I highly recommend it.
Sam was great. We loved the mix of Food and history and how they influence each other. We would recommend it especially if you are baker, cook or just love chocolate.
I had a great time trying different delicacies of San Miguel and learned about the history and culture of San Miguel and Mexico. I highly recommend this tour.
Our guide Sam was very personable and extremely knowledgeable about all things “San Miguel”. He shared how chocolate had a considerable impact on Mexico. His knowledge of Mexico’s history was vast So glad he was there for the tour
