Itinerary
Get ready for the most unique experience in your life! First we meet up in Condado. From there you ride with us. The drive is about an hour and takes us to the heart of Arecibo. Arecibo is one of the cities with the richest historical legacies in all of Puerto Rico. The drive itself is very beautiful, but our first destination is absolutely breathtaking. When we get there we will do a short hike (wear good sneakers) to the mouth of the cave! Keep your cameras handy because the views are out of this world. The cave of the Taino Indian is a small cave system that is a historical and archeological wonderland! This cave is literally covered in Taino stone carvings. It is breathtaking and the scenery even more so! After we exit the cave, we make our way to the 7 arches to take in the amazing views. After another short hike back to the car, we head out to a beautiful beach in Arecibo as well. This tour will give you a taste of the Caribbean lifestyle/history/culture.
A beautiful quaint little beach where we will finish up our tour. The waters are warm and very clear turquoise

Such a fun tour. Edward was an amazing guide. You can tell he really loves what he does and wants you to love Puerto Rico. The hike was gorgeous. The cave exploration was a bit of a challenge. Small spaces and small crevices to hold on to get from spot to spot. But most of our group were successful without much injury. Maybe some small scrapes. But such an amazing experience
This was such a wonderful experience. The rocks were super cool and the hike among them wasn’t bad. The hike into the cave however was definitely a challenge. You had to hold on to small crevices and climb into small spaces and was definitely nerve wracking but super cool. Edward was our guide and he did an amazing job talking about PRs culture and history and guiding us through the cave and on the rocks. Just a win experience
This was an absolutely amazing experience and one of the highlights of our trip to Puerto Rico! The combination of hiking, exploring the beautiful surroundings, and getting to venture inside the Taíno Indian Cave made this adventure so worth it. If you’re considering booking this excursion, DO IT! A couple of things to know before you go: definitely make sure you wear good, close-toed shoes. The rocks are extremely abrasive, so you’ll definitely want something that protects your feet. I wore close-toed swimming shoes and did just fine. As far as the cave... This part of the adventure is SO worth it, but be prepared for a physical challenge. Getting inside requires squeezing through a relatively small crevice and making a slight jump upward. At a minimum, you’ll need to be able to lift your legs to about waist height. Once inside, there’s still quite a bit of climbing and maneuvering to do. However, with a little determination, anyone in reasonably decent physical shape should be able to manage it with some guidance. Speaking of guidance, a HUGE shoutout to our tour guide, Edward! He was absolutely fantastic throughout the entire experience. He helped guide everyone through the more challenging portions, explained what we needed to do, and talked us through the cave exploration step by step. He also shared a ton of interesting information about Puerto Rico along the entire trip, which made the experience even more enjoyable. You couldn’t ask for a better guide! I can’t recommend this adventure highly enough. It’s fun, adventurous, a little challenging, and gives you an opportunity to experience a side of Puerto Rico you won’t experience if you stay in San Juan. But with this being only an hour outside of the city, if you’re thinking about booking this tour, do yourself a favor and specifically request Edward if possible. He’s fantastic, and he helped make an already incredible experience even better!
This was such a memorable experience for my group! It was our first time doing a hike like this, and my first time ever climbing into a cave. Our guide, Edward, was incredibly knowledgeable about Puerto Rico and the island’s history, which made the experience even more interesting. What really stood out was how patient and attentive he was with everyone. Between the heat, the hike, and navigating the cave, he consistently checked in to make sure we were safe, comfortable, and having a great time. If you're new to hiking, I definitely recommend at least doing the first portion of the tour! A few people in my group decided to skip the cave portion, and Edward made sure they had a safe, comfortable place to sit and relax while he guided the rest of us into and out of the cave. We all met back up afterward, so no one felt left behind. The beach was another highlight. It was quiet, beautiful, and such a peaceful part of the experience. A few tips: Bring some light snacks, an electrolyte drink, and a fanny pack or small bag that keeps your hands free. Water was provided, but as someone visiting from NYC who sweats a lot and isn't used to the Puerto Rican heat, I definitely needed some extra electrolytes! I'm glad Edward had us stop to grab supplies before starting the hike. Beyond being a great guide, Edward is just a genuinely cool guy to spend time with. He made everyone feel comfortable, kept the energy positive, and made sure we were enjoying ourselves throughout the experience. My group walked away with an incredible memory, and I'm so glad we did this tour. Highly recommend, especially with Edward as your guide!
The experience was out of this world. The route there was beautiful, and the destinations were breathtaking. I booked one day beforehand and ended up being the only one to go for the 9am time slot, so 1 on 1 conversation with my guide Sean was great. He was VERY knowledgeable and made sure I was safe the entire trip. I went on a Tuesday at 9am and it was EMPTY. I doubted myself climbing into the cave itself because it was a bit slippery (due to weather) however, Sean offered to go in and he took great videos of everything I was unable to see from outside. The beach was also a must see. This has been the highlight of my second trip to PR. Thank you!
We loved that this was a small tour — it felt so personal and authentic. You could tell it wasn't the typical tourist route. And our guide... honestly the best guide I've EVER had. So knowledgeable, funny, and genuinely passionate about what they do. If you book one tour, make it this one.
Had a great time. Nestor is a very fun and informative guide. Highly recommended tour.
Great experience with Nestor. The tour was informative and very thorough. Nestor is a non-judge-mental person and very kind. He will make sure you stay safe on the tour. We drove to the cave with a stop along the way to look at where the horses go in the sea. We then explored the Taino caves and had a delicious meal. We went in the sea and saw lots of marine life with a scuba mask. Even though I was scared of spiders, holding baby crabs and caves I was able to work through my fear of these things and enjoy the tour. Nestor is receptive to any questions you may want to ask him. They send pictures of the tour to you afterwards.
We had an amazing experience with our guide Kenyon. He was very attentive, knowledgeable and enthusiastic - he made us feel safe while in the cave and thought us the history around the seven arches. He’s full of energy and very talkative and the nature is simply beautiful. Highly recommended!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ If I could give this experience 10 stars, I absolutely would! My boyfriend and I did the Taino cave tour and hike with Edward, and I can honestly say he made this one of the absolute highlights of our Puerto Rico trip. From the moment we started, Edward was AMAZING. He was incredibly knowledgeable, entertaining, patient, welcoming, and genuinely passionate about what he does. You could immediately tell that he wasn’t just there to lead a tour—he truly wanted us to have an unforgettable experience. The hike was beautiful, adventurous, and just the right amount of challenging, and exploring the Taino caves was something I’ll never forget. Learning about the history and culture while actually being inside these incredible caves made the experience feel so much more meaningful than a typical tourist activity. Edward brought the history to life and kept us engaged the entire time. He answered every question we had, made us laugh, made sure we were comfortable and safe, and never once made us feel rushed. The fact that it was just me, my boyfriend, and Edward made it feel incredibly personal and almost like we had a local friend showing us a hidden side of Puerto Rico. The atmosphere was peaceful, breathtaking, adventurous, and completely immersive. The admission price was 100% worth it, and the length of the visit gave us plenty of time to actually enjoy the experience instead of feeling like we were being rushed from one spot to another. Edward deserves the BIGGEST shoutout because he genuinely made the entire experience what it was. His energy, personality, knowledge, and attention to detail were unmatched. You can tell he takes pride in Puerto Rico and loves sharing its history with people, and that made the tour feel so authentic. If you’re looking for something memorable, educational, adventurous, and completely different from the usual tourist activities, THIS IS THE TOUR TO BOOK. It’s perfect for couples, small groups, adventure lovers, hikers, history lovers, or anyone who wants to experience the real beauty and culture of Puerto Rico. I would recommend this experience to EVERYONE visiting Puerto Rico, and if you get Edward as your guide, consider yourself lucky! 🇵🇷❤️ He was truly one of the best parts of our trip, and we left with an incredible experience and memories that we’ll be talking about for a long time. Thank you, Edward, for making our day so unforgettable!
Me and my boyfriend were guided by Edward and his daughter Kashe. And they were fantastic from start to finish. They guided us carefully across rocky cactus-y terrain (with holes that drop 45 ft deep), identified sea turtles in the distance, helped us rock climb and taught us the history of local monuments (like the 360 ft christopher columbus statue, 7 arches, and taino pyroglyphs). AND they helped other tourists rock climb down into the caverns too. Amazing. After the hike, we ate at a local restaurant and then got much needed rest at a beach until 6pm. Great experience. I'd choose them again for another tour 100%. FYI, this is a 6-7 hour tour and not 2 hrs as it says on trip advisor.
This excursion is not properly described and not worth the cost in my opinion. Our guide was wry nice but we didn’t know it was a “private” tour with just us in a car with him and the “snacks” included were a tube of Pringles. We also did not get to go into the cave due to rain which was out of the guide’s control but again, not worth the cost.
We met Edward and then he took us on an adventure our family will never forget. He is like a walking history professor that all the students love. He genuinely cared about the experience of his guests. We could tell that he loves what he does as well as his love for Puerto Rico. As we were going through the caves he was very patient and made everyone feel safe. He also took us to some out of this world sites that we would have never found without his expertise. We loved the experience so much that we actually booked another trip with him. You do not want to miss out on this tour! Make sure you ask for Edward!
This experience provided a favorite set of memories from my week-long business trip to Puerto Rico! I really appreciated how the dispatcher worked to let me join a budding tour (my early plans had fallen through due to weather). Edward was welcoming as I was the last pick-up before our adventure began. The hike is on rough ground - make sure you've got decent shoes. Really dramatic scenery!! Loved getting out to the windy coast while SJ was hot and steamy. Our lunch at a local place was fun - and really filling. Loved our swimming stop too - didn't expect bath-water temps! Edward's rapid-fire narration while driving out gave a very good introduction to a lot of Puerto Rico's history and current life. Plus, the group photos he took for us are so dramatic -- he knows the angles!
I was surprised to hear I was the only one on this particular tour and that Shawn was still willing to take me. He is very knowledgeable about the area, excellent rock climber and swimmer. The tour was more physically demanding than I thought, but very rewarding. And because I was the only one, he was flexible to change the beach spot to my preference.
I had a great time with Sean. He was an attentive and knowledgeable guide. He came an picked me up from my Airbnb and drove me to the hiking location. Along the way, he stopped and bought Puerto Rican donuts for me to try and answered all of my questions about the island. The actual tour is truly life changing. I have never climbed into a tiny cave like that before, but it was so worth it. The preserved carvings and the spirts of the Taino people are incredible to witness. I felt honored to be there. Wear hiking boots or sneakers with good tread and you’ll be okay. The beach and bbq we had afterwards was the perfect way to end the tour. Highly recommend!
10/10 experience. The views while walking up to and at the seven arches were breathtaking. Not a bad hike - short and rocky, but nothing terrible if wearing the right footwear (something with a good thick sole). I was a little nervous about what getting into the cave would be like, but our guide Kenyon showed us exactly what to do and we got down into the space (and eventually back up) without any trouble. I’m so glad we did. You could feel the life and the history in the cave carvings and space itself. Kenyon was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. I could have honestly spent the whole day there. Due to the holiday weekend, the beach we had planned to go to was packed, so we improvised and went to another spot he knew of. Spent some time there before heading to a lunch spot where we stuffed ourselves. This was really such a great time and would highly recommend to anyone looking to do something a little different, a little scary, but a lot wonderful.
The views were unforgettable and were amazing to experience. Our tour guide was Edward and he was super helpful and made the tour even better
My tour guide Edgar was amazing and very informative. It was fun and educational. Book it!
A rare tour where the experience exceeded description. Our small group moved through cliff faces etched with Taíno petroglyphs, ducked into caves that felt genuinely ancient, and finished soaking wet in the best possible way: jumping into a river, swimming through a cave pool, and standing under a waterfall that hit like a reset button. Guide elevated the experience. His knowledge of Taíno history, cosmology, and spiritual relationship to the land wasn't Wikipedia-level recitation — it was contextual, felt, and clearly personal. As a local (he grew up and still lives in the area, you knew the river "belongs" to him in some deeper sense, not just geographically.. He was also genuinely warm and attentive. One group member was hesitant about squeezing through the narrow entrance into the cave, and he handled it with exactly the right mix of patience, encouragement, and zero pressure. Two suggestions for an already excellent experience: the pacing in the 2sthalf felt slightly rushed — more time to sit inside the cave environment, especially after the cultural context our guide had built, would go a long way. And by the midpoint, between the heat and the swimming, a simple food option — fruit, something local and light — would be a welcome addition. Would recommend without hesitation, especially for anyone who wants an experience that holds cultural depth and physical adventure together.
This was an absolutely breathtaking experience with amazing views. But be aware that this tour requires either physically fitness and/or an extremely competent guide (more on that below). Tips if you want to go: wear closed toe shoes, hydrate beforehand, and wear sunscreen. If you want to bring your phone, secure it on your person because you will need both hands free. Also store hand sanitizer in the car because you’re likely to get bat guano (poop) on your hands. The tour is broken down into two parts: the hike to the cave and the cave itself. The first part is easy, the second is not. The hike to the cave is doable for pretty much anyone, except those with mobility issues. The cave itself is more challenging and not for anyone in poor health, claustrophobic, or prone to panic attacks. It may also be more difficult for anyone who is short (adults or kids). You climb in through a crack in the cave face and then have to brace yourself against the walls and do a sort of sideways shimmy above a crevice (back to one wall and arms and legs against another), after which you swing your body around to a small ledge and climb down into the cave properly. The only safe way out is the way you came in. My family and I are in moderate health, but we would absolutely not have been able to do this without our tour guide. Our tour guide was indispensable and had to talk one person down from a panic attack getting into the cave and then physically haul me out part of the way leaving because I was too short to reach some of the footholds. Our tour guide also had to help several other tourists (including unsupervised kids) who decided to try the cave on their own and got stuck, nearly hurting themselves and others in the process. During our research we found out several people had died just this year in the cave and surrounding area; having done it now myself, I see exactly how dangerous it is and how easy it would have been for someone to get hurt. It’s an amazing experience, but there are definitely risks that people should be aware of.
Amazing experience if you’re brave enough! The hike up to the cave was easy enough, but getting into the cave was a bit scary. Our tour guide, Nestor, was really good about being supportive and encouraging. I’m really glad I did it. It was a rewarding experience to visit my ancestors.
The experience with Edward and Fabiola was wonderful. The walk is a bit tough but our group including septuagenarians managed. The caves require even more dexterity so be aware. Wonderful views of the water from the top
Néstor was the best part of the trip. Without him, the visit would not have been the same. He shared lots of good stories and knows how to navigate the cave well. He set the mood. For those going, dress light, wear grippy shoes, and only take the minimum necessary items. The cave entrance is really narrow.
Eduard was an amazing guide! Very knowledgeable about Puerto Rico as a whole and genuinely a charismatic, down to earth person who keep my family and the entire group engaged the entire time! Would definitely recommend Eduard as an English and Spanish speaking guide! 10/10.
Edward was AMAZING. I could write so much but ill keep it short! He was a very amazing personal person which i admired! Honestly my favorite person i met on the island and was SO patient with me as an anxious person. This book is a must on your trip!! Most beautiful views and the ocean stop was GORGEOUS beautiful clear waters, edward took soo many pictures of me and my partner. Thank you so much for the memorable experience signed zach & hannah!
Our group had so much fun with Edward. He gave clear instructions and demonstrations when hiking and climbing. You can tell he is extremely educated and passionate about the island and its history. Great dad jokes! #TeamEdward
This tour was amazing! My guide Fabiola was the best and she took the time to explain all the history behind the Taino Cave. The transport from San Juan was also great. I highly recommend this tour.
The experience was amazing and our guide Edward was fantastic. He was very knowledgeable and friendly. You could tell he had a passion for the island, its culture, and the history of its people. The views on the hike were incredible. Absolutely spectacular! Getting to see the Taino petroglyphs was a profound experience that I will always remember. 5 stars.
Sarah and Alexis went above and beyond to make our tour a memorable one. They were so patient and helpful in guiding us throughout the experience and pointing out special details. We loved the photos they took for us as well. From start to finish it was a 10/10 and an unforgettable experience!
A fun trip with nature and archaeology! We were surprised to show up at the meet up point to find out we were the only ones to have booked this tour at that time slot; I know some tour companies would have canceled if the tour was empty so we are super grateful to our guide Kenyon and the company for proceeding with our booking. The cave entrance/exit was a little tricky, but Kenyon was very helpful guiding us on where to place our hands and feet to enter the cave. Once you're inside, there aren't really any more tricky parts to climb or navigate until you need to exit. We saw various Taino stone carvings that have withstood the test of time and they are so cool. My favorite was the jellyfish! The cave and surrounding waters were admirable in and of itself. We saw a sea turtle in the distance, and Kenyon mentioned that whales and rays could occasionally be seen as well. The beach trip afterwards was beautiful, and we did not feel rushed to wrap up the tour as we lounged on the sand. We got to wade in the beautiful waters, and we were even given towels and bottled water in case we needed it. Overall, great experience! Would love to do this experience again and try to see the whales and rays next time!
This tour was the highlight of my trip and I’ll never forget my experience with Fabiola! She made the whole day spectacular- She was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, accommodating and patient. Climbing inside the cave was a little scary but she was so encouraging and helpful guiding me through every step. Plus she took great photos for me as a solo traveler and she was so easy to talk to. It shows just how much she loves her job. All of the views, the history, the beach and the food stop were phenomenal, don’t miss out & book!!!!
This was a fantastic excursion! Kenyon was an amazing guide, the views were gorgeous, and the beach was relaxing. The caves were a little tricky but 100% worth it! Highly recommend booking this tour!
This was an unforgettable adventure! I booked this tour as I was looking for something spiritually renewing to do for my birthday, and that’s exactly what I received! Our knowledge and personable tour guide, Edward, led us to tide pools brimming with life and life changing views atop of seaside cliffs. My personal favorite part of the tour was the voyage inside the cave to see the Taino petroglyphs. Edward makes the journey through the cafe safe and doable, but it’s worth it if you’re courageous enough. You are face to face with remnants of humanity millions of years older than us, and it’s beautiful to witness firsthand. Wear hiking shoes and bring a willing spirit, because this trip is one you will never forget.
We had a great time Edward on this tour. The pickup was super conveniente. Edward shared a lot of information on the drive to the tour that helped give context later. The hike part of the tour was very active. This is not the tour for you if you get winded easily or are afraid of small spaces or heights. We felt accomplished at the end of the hike and had learned a lot. Edward was also great about taking cool pictures of us during the tour. After the hike, we made a stop for lunch. The lunch place was a nice local stop with Puerto Rican food. After lunch we continued to the beach for about an hour. This was a great way to end the day chilling and people watching. We then made the drive back to the metro area. Since our hotel was close to the pickup spot, Edward dropped us off there. Overall we definitely recommend a tour with Edward and we will be rebooking with him next time we are on the island
Solo in Puerto Rico for just one day—and this was, without question, the highlight of my trip. Raw. Intense. Unfiltered. This excursion pushed me physically and mentally. Biggest lesson: listen, observe, and trust—not yourself, but the guide. Saw the island through a whole new lens. Thank you, Edgar, for making this experience so memorable. Your patience, kindness, and openness truly made an impact. Until next time.
Edward gave us the best tour I’ve had in my life!!! I didn’t believe I could do some things and he pushed me out of my comfort zone and gave me confidence to go further than I ever thought I was able to. This was a work out and you have to be in good condition but the views are insane and his history lesson of the island was so interesting and I learned so much. After, he took us to a bbq place where we got to try some amazing pr food then we ended up at La POZA. One of the best days of my life. This tour is for the adventurers!
Do not second guess booking this tour like I did. You will not regret going! Edward went above and beyond, greatest tour guide you could ever ask for- you have to experience it for yourself. As long as you follow directions, you are completely capable of completing this tour no problem. And you have Edward there cheering you on. It’s perfect for solo travelers or groups. Amazing views, food, conversation, and the beach was the icing on the cake.
We had a fantastic day with Edward! He shared alot of history of Puerto Rico as well as the Taino people. The caves and ocean views were amazing! Some of the cave exploration was challenging, But Edward's knowledge, patience, and great instructions made us feel very safe. Not sure we would have been able to find or navigate some of the beautiful parts of the cave if we were on our own. We loved experiencing authentic Puerto Rican food! At the end of the day, we felt like we had been on a tour with a distant relative and now a new friend!
While this is an amazing place to visit, I think Viator should be a little more honest and upfront in the description of the "tour". We very much enjoyed our day and we are very happy that we went., but we were a little surprised and taken aback when our guide showed up in his personal vehicle to drive us and another couple around in his car. This place is open to the public and a guide is not required but without one, you would not only not learn any history of the area, but I honestly do not know how you would navigate getting in and out of the cave opening without the instruction of a guide. My husband and I are in our mid 50's and somewhat fit and it was extremely difficult. Without our guide showing us exactly where to place our feet and where to grip with our hands, we never would have made it. There were several other people at the site that were in their 20's that he assisted as well because they were really struggling. I am very glad we did it. It was beautiful and amazing and the history lesson was great, and with guidance, it can be done! Other than that, the description says that you take "a beautiful scenic one hour drive". It is none of those things. It is just a drive. And we only had one hour at a beach afterwards. There was nothing special about the beach that we went to. I would have rather spent half the money and met at the caves. I'm not saying you shouldn't go because it was very cool. Just trying to give you the full picture.
Our guide, Sarah, was fun & so knowledgeable about the area & culture! She knew every step of the beautiful hike and helped us navigate tricky spots. She showed us great photo opportunities & shared
The views and Roy, our guide, were wonderful. The beach was great, too. However, forget the cave with Taino carvings! To get into the cave was impossible for many of us--you had to scrabble up some rockface, with nothing to grasp. Roy tried to help us (safely), but it is impossible to haul up an adult of 140 or 150 pounds! I was told the interior of the cave was extremely difficult, too. As a result, many of us never got inside the cave nor saw the Taino carvings. I blame Viator for not accurately describing this tour, which I might not have taken had I known how difficult it would be, and my rating would have been 1. However, Roy (and the scenery and the beach stop) increased my rating to 4.
Everything was perfect. Fabiola, our tour guide was amazing andvery nice. The tour was amazing
This may be one of the most diverse and enjoyable tour on the island. You can see the mountain side, coast line, caves, ancient history, and a great tour guide who is passionate about giving from the heart and paying it forward
We had such an amazing day. We learned a ton about Puerto Rican history from our guide Fabiola. And we experienced some of the most breathtaking views from the island. The hike was challenging at times but the reward of exploring the caves was 100% worth it.
Sean, was a great tour guide, knowledgeable of the area and wery helpful. Took us to a great local restraunt. Really enjoyed the total experience. The views are fabulous.
Our tour guide Sarah was amazing. She helped us navigate the steep cave, with great amount of patience. The view is spectacular and I think it’s super worth it to do this tour
I couldn’t of been more pleased with our tour guide. His name was Edgar Joel. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t have went into the cave and I’m so glad I did!! He encouraged me and pushed me to get in the entrance of the cave and coached me through each step making sure I was safe and made the right moves. There were also a few people who wanted to get in the cave, but didn’t have tour guides and he was so kind and went out of his way to make sure that they all stayed safe too. Out of all the vacations I’ve done and the different tour guide guides I’ve met over the years, he has been my favorite so far. If I were you, I would request him. He did say there was two Edgar‘s so make sure you ask for the right one. If you’re not comfortable getting inside the cave it’s still a gorgeous view!!! And you can go to the beach also. :)
The tour with Edward was really great, I had a wonderful day and learned a lot about the island’s history! Edward is an excellent guide who is truly passionate about Puerto Rico and its history, and he’s a wealth of knowledge. The hike through the cave was a really beautiful experience and we had lunch at a delicious restaurant. The time at the beach was also very enjoyable. I highly recommend this excursion it was amazing !
