Cool dive site. Currents were interesting and such a cool challenge
I had a great experience at Scuba Dogs. I went in the middle of the week and ended up with a one on one experience. My dive guide, Chris, was awesome. I had been out of the water for about 18 months, and he made sure I was comfortable the entire time. He was very knowledgeable about the site and led a great dive. The equipment all looked new and worked perfectly. The dive was amazing. I would definitely recommend this to any divers!
I had a good dive. I’m thankful with my instructor Anthony. He is a nice guy. Very patient with me.
Very Disappointing Experience We were extremely disappointed with our experience with Scuba Dogs in Puerto Rico. We booked about a month prior to our trip. Spent money bringing our own equipment. Our dive was scheduled for 9:00 a.m., and we received a confirmation email 24 hours beforehand confirming the 9:00 a.m. time. While we were already on our way, at approximately 8:15 a.m., we received a phone call telling us that we were late. (We pulled over because he was talking about conditions not being good and needing to go a different day. We explained after talking with two different people that it was our only day. He said come on. We lost 15 minutes during those conversations.) We were told that they had sent a new email on Saturday changing our time to 8:00 a.m. We did not receive. We did however receive a 24-hour confirmation confirming our 9:00 a.m. arrival. About five minutes before we arrived, they called again and told us they had already sent the guides home. We told them we were only about three minutes away. When we arrived, they refused to honor our dive and also refused to refund our money. We understand that schedules matter, but when a customer has a confirmation stating one time and your company changes that time in a later email that the customer doesn’t see, it seems unreasonable to hold the customer entirely responsible—especially when they are already driving to your location based on the confirmed time. We were really looking forward to scuba diving during our vacation, and this experience completely ruined that part of our trip. Unfortunately, based on how this situation was handled, we cannot recommend Scuba Dogs.
⭐ 1-Star Review — Extremely Disappointing Experience Our experience with Scuba Dogs in Puerto Rico was extremely disappointing, and the biggest issue was the complete breakdown in communication and the way the situation was handled afterward. A week before our scheduled dive, Scuba Dogs contacted us and changed our dive time from 9:00 AM to 8:00 AM. However, 24 hours before our dive, we received another confirmation email from Scuba Dogs clearly stating that our scheduled dive time was 9:00 AM. Naturally, we relied on the most recent written confirmation sent directly by the company. The morning of our dive, the staff began calling us around 8:15 AM telling us we were late for our 8:00 AM dive. We explained that the confirmation email they had sent us the day before stated 9:00 AM. At that point, instead of acknowledging their own conflicting communication, they began discussing trying to reschedule us. We were traveling through Puerto Rico traffic and remained in communication with them by phone throughout the morning. We arrived later than expected because of traffic, but still within 30 minutes of the 9:00 AM time stated in their most recent confirmation email. Despite knowing we were actively on our way, they had already sent our dive guides home. They then refused to provide the dive AND refused to refund our money. What made an already frustrating situation worse was the response from the owner and staff. Rather than acknowledging that their own confirmation email contained the 9:00 AM time, they argued with us and insisted that we were outside the scheduled window. It is incredibly frustrating for a business to send a customer a written confirmation with a specific time, communicate with that customer throughout the morning, and then refuse service and keep the customer’s money because the business claims a different time applied. We understand that dive operators have schedules to maintain and that customers have a responsibility to arrive on time. But customers also have every right to expect a company to honor the appointment time stated in the confirmation email it sends 24 hours before the scheduled service. If 8:00 AM was truly the final scheduled time, then the confirmation sent the day before should have said 8:00 AM—not 9:00 AM. The poor communication could have been an understandable mistake. Refusing to take responsibility for that mistake, sending the guides home while knowing we were on our way, arguing with us about their own conflicting communications, and then refusing to refund our money is what made this experience unacceptable. We planned part of our Puerto Rico trip around this dive and were genuinely looking forward to it. Instead, we lost our dive experience and our money because of conflicting information sent by the company itself. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend Scuba Dogs. If you do book with them, I strongly suggest saving every email and confirmation you receive, because apparently even the appointment time shown in their most recent written confirmation may not be the time they expect you to follow.
I had an amazing experience scuba diving here! It had been about five months since my last dive, so I had forgotten some of the knowledge and was a little rusty. The instructor was incredibly friendly, patient, and professional. They helped me choose the correct amount of weight, reviewed the skills I needed, and guided me throughout the dive, which made me feel comfortable and confident again. I highly recommend this place to anyone, whether you’re a beginner or just need a refresher after some time away from diving. The staff truly cares about your safety and making sure you have a great experience. I’ll definitely be coming back!
Amazing experience, helpful tour guides so kind and helpful in the water.
I did the beach day trip with Anthony. We planned the dive together and spent the day at Shacks at Isabela and El Natural. Anthony was awesome— very knowledgeable about each site! Shacks has easily become one of my favorite dive sites. I had a great time and will definitely need to check out some of the other dive sites in Puerto Rico in the future. Highly recommend diving with Anthony!
I did the dive at Escambron Park. A kind of walled estuary but we went beyond the wall for our nice long dive. While it's not too deep , it's good practice for peak buoyancy since we had to navigate through tunnels and caves. The caves and rock formations make for interesting landscape. I like that they protect the marine life and keep it free of trash and other human harm. My guide was Alejandro. Considerate with a balance of helpfulness and independence. The shop itself was very communicative via email and phone. The location was easy to get to. A short walk from my hotel. Overall I appreciated the accessibility without needing to rely on a car or have a long drive from San Juan.
Amazing tour! Saw lots of fish and turtles and the dive was fun and beautiful. Manolo was a great guide!
Both our guides were amazing and patient with the new divers
Manolo made this experience fantastic!! Definitely try to get him! Fun time had by all and we managed to see a turtle in the shallows.
Scuba Dogs made it so very easy to have a great experience! And our guide, Manolo, was the perfect for for us. What a great, genuine man! He custom tailored our dive specific for what we needed and made us feel very comfortable. We had a great time!
It had been about five years since my last dive, and I was able to take a refresher course and do a dive with my nephew at the Escambron Marine Park, who had just gotten certified in the states. The online registration process was easy, and and the staff were fantastic. Especially the dive masters Manolo and Alberto, who were very friendly, honest, patient and informative. Although the diving conditions were not ideal, we felt safe at all times and enjoy the whole experience immensely. We can’t wait to come back and do it again!
My son and I could not have asked for a better experience the instructor massive diver. Manolo put us right at ease. We have not dived in over six years and he made us feel so calm to get right back in the water took us to a wonderful reef showed us some beautiful fishes and Even had a very funny surprise for us at the end. I don’t wanna ruin it but if in when you are in San Juan, Scuba Dogs is a must.
Amazing scuba excursion at Escambrón Marine Park! Clear waters, beautiful marine life, and great guides made it unforgettable. Highly recommend!
Staff was knowledgeable and punctual. Didn’t feel any risk were taken and dive was safe.
Had an awesome experience driving with Darian and the team at SCUBA Dogs. Took the time to do a quick refresher to get re-acclimated and then enjoyed a quick dive here on site. Lots of fun. Would recommend.
Awesome experience at their Escambron Marine Park location! Our dive guide Paco was excellent on working with a couple newbie divers like myself and my wife. Even with mild currents and limited visibility our guide Paco gave us a great dive briefing and led a safe yet fun dive. Highly recommend them.
We had a great experience with Scuba Dawgs in San Juan. There are not many options for diving in the San Juan metro area, so this worked out well for us. We visited on a day with very rough water, so visibility was low. We have not been on many dives, so this opportunity was great for practice. Would definitely do this again on a future visit.
Manolo and Anthony are professional and very knowledgeable. They assured every detail was met, as well as made the experience as enjoyable and safe as possible.
First of, Manuelo was our guide and he is amazing! I got a call from him a week before we arrived, where he was looking at dive conditions in Escambron. We had initially booked a 2-tank dive and night dive in San Juan while we were there after a cruise. Manuelo told us conditions for a night dive would be rough and offered to do a second dive in Guyanica. Not only did he pick us up from the cruise port and take us to our dive in Escambron, he offered to drive us 2.5 hours across the island to the second site on our second day in PR. The Guyanica dive was amazing. We did our first wall dive, and saw sharks and beautiful fish in the reef. Escambron conditions were a little rough (which is why the night dive was called off!) but we still had a great time and even got to see an octopus! And we essentially had a private dive master with one other woman. I would recommend Scuba Dogs to any diver coming to PR!
Had an amazing experience with Anthony despite the poor visibility due to strong currents. He is very professional and made me feel confident from the start. Can recommend everyone diving here. Will definitely come back.
The worst dive experience in 30 years of diving. First, please make sure you understand if this is a shore dive or boat dive. It wasn't clear on the Trip Advisor ad. Ours was a shore dive. Thought I was getting a boat dive. It wasn't easy to get to from our ship even though in my communication with them, they said it was. Both the Lyft and taxi drivers had no idea where it was based on the address supplied. Yes, we had to take two different companies to get there. Scuba Dogs blamed newbies to the island. Neither driver qualified as newbies. The gear was decent. The dive master was nice but given the 2ft visibility, she lost us quite often. Hardly any life. It was just miserable. Unfortunately, I am a very calm diver and our air lasted almost an hour. We only hit 30ft. I should have had more weight due to the depth but didn't realize that until it was too late. I simply never do this kind of dive. And never will again. This was used mostly as a discovery tour and snorkeling. However, however the current made all of it very uncomfortable.
I hadn’t gone scuba diving for years. The equipment was good. The team was very professional and helpful. Dale is an amazing instructor. My anxiety is completely gone, thank you!!
Fun, first dive in a couple of years. Dale was nice and helpful (and sarcastic). Saw a sea turtle. Water was warm and enjoyed overall.
The Scuba Dog team is super friendly and professional. I had reserved two days of scuba diving with them and found some issues with the second day's dive. They were very responsive and handled my issue well, changing my tour. Special thanks to Paco. I had three easy, safe, and enjoyable dives with him. Next time I travel to Puerto Rico, I will definitely contact Scuba Dog to have more fun.
Everyone was kind, very knowledgeable. Came down with a 10 min walk from the Hilton to check all of our gear and go on a refresher dive. Easy peasy will come back Thanks everyone
Good shore dive with a nice turtle and numerous swim throughs. Good cruise excursion with a great dive instructor.
I booked this at last minute because I didn’t think I had time to dive, but they went out of their way to make sure I go the dive I was hoping for. Great guide named Davis knows his fish.
We weren’t exactly thrilled when we realized our dive was a shore dive—those usually rank somewhere between lukewarm coffee and airline food on our excitement scale. But the location was close to the cruise ship pier (less than 15 minutes away), which made it convenient. They even picked us up right at the end of the dock—can't beat that for service. Our dive master, Manola, started things off with a little “prove-you’re-not-a-menace” refresher. Fair enough, though between the four of us we had over 500 dives each, so we passed with flying fins. Depth? Never more than 22 feet. But what it lacked in depth, it made up for in surprises: we saw a turtle, a ray, a pufferfish, and a nice variety of tropical eye candy—all within 100 feet of shore. Manola knew his stuff and pointed out critters like he had them on payroll. We only had time for one dive (thanks, cruise ship schedule), but it lasted over an hour and left us more than satisfied. They had us back at the ship pier well before all aboard. Would we do it again? Absolutely. The only downside? A week later, I was still shaking sand out of my gear from the beach entry—but hey, consider it a souvenir.
Dove and trained with professionals that taught me how to be a fish in the water. Truly grateful for the beautiful scenery and amazing encounters with the sea life.
Very good group of dive instructors and masters. Would recommend to get certified here all the time. Love the diving while I was here.
Dale was amazing and we had so much fun!! We dove with him multiple times and had a great time each dive. Don’t forget to put your mask on right or you owe him a beer.
We booked a Disney Cruise and were so excited about our stop in Puerto Rico, especially because we wanted to scuba dive there. Unfortunately, all the diving excursions through Disney were fully booked. That’s when we connected with Manolo from Scuba Dogs, and he completely exceeded our expectations. Manolo went out of his way to work with Disney and managed to open up spots for us so we could dive during our port day. Sadly, Disney ended up canceling the dive the day before we docked. I reached back out to Manolo, and within no time, he had a plan in place and arranged for someone to pick us up at the port so we could still enjoy our dive independently. Our dive instructor, Paco, was incredible. He was knowledgeable, professional, personable, and incredibly accommodating. I truly can’t say enough great things about them both. Manolo and Paco turned an unfortunate situation into an unforgettable adventure. Just the experience with them alone has us planning a return trip to Puerto Rico, and we’ll definitely be diving again with Scuba Dogs. If you’re even thinking about scuba diving in Puerto Rico, take my word for it: book with them.
I had the best experience with Scuba Dogs! I was already a certified diver, but I learned so much. Manolo is a patient and knowledgeable instructor and made me feel comfortable and confident in the water. Davis was also very kind and friendly and greeted us when we arrived at the shop. I definitely recommend Scuba Dogs if you’re looking for a dive experience in San Juan!
The dive with Manolo was amazing! We did the Reactivate course and he was so thorough and patient in checking all of our skills. We saw a huge barracuda, a sea turtle, a cleaner shrimp, and TONS of beautiful fish! Davis at the front desk was also super kind and helpful. Definitely would dive with ScubaDogs again, and would recommend to others :)
Our trip was marvelous! We saw a lot of fish, a lot of coral, a lot of very interesting things, squids, turtles, angel fish and much more! Our Dive Master Supreme Manolo, was Awesome and amazing! He was very safety conscious, professional, knowledgeable, nice, kind, amazing, and awesome. It was a spectacular dive and we had a marvelous time. Manolo, Davis, Brianna .... really all of the team was amazing! We came on a cruise so I was worried but we had more than enough time to walk here, get in a Dive, chill and relax on the beach and get back to ship on time! An excellent option while you're here in Puerto Rico!
Shout out to the staff, especially the guide Paco for being friendly and accommodating to me being late. I signed up for a scuba dive, by myself. Everyone was warm and helped me feel safe for the dive and had me in their best interests. I went out during low tide and it was explained to me how this would give better visibility, we had about 15 ft for starting after 2 pm. I saw a bunch of the interesting landmarks scattered around the cove area. I felt relaxed with it being relatively shallow and with the guide, and the water was warm and nice! I did wish some of the life (or coral? could be more alive and vibrant) but in the end saw a squid and some long fish I haven't seen before. We also saw a few packs of colorful fish! The gear rental, setup, and putting stuff away went smoothly and they made it easy, even tested me on how to set up the gear (which I welcomed so I can get better at it).
Francesco was an amazing instructor at Scuba Dogs for scuba diving! His expertise and patience made every dive a fantastic experience. Highly recommend him to anyone looking to explore the underwater world with confidence!
Great instructions. Took the time to give the kids a refresher course. Paco used real life analogies to help the kids recall buoyancy and breathing techniques.
We had a great tour of the Escambron marine park with Scuba Dogs! Small group, 3 experienced divers. Manolo was very knowledgeable and passionate about local marine life, he showed us most of the fish we were going to see, talked about their habits and life, and went trough the diving equipment and signs quite thoroughly. Shallow dive, pretty strong current, the water was not very clear due to the wind and tide, which made the dive a bit challenging. Manolo took the time to show us around, many fish and turtles, some small caves and underwater features, he showed us how to cope with the current and tight spaces. I found the marin life to be more human friendly, you could get pretty close to them and even engage with them. Which made it a unique experience. 77min and still had a lot of air. The golf is conveniently located in San Juan, would definitely recommend to visitors who don't have a car to get to other parts of the island.
If you want to have a fun diving experience in San Juan, you need to come here! I had Anthony as my dive instructor. He's an awesome guy who will give you a great dive experience!
It was a wonderful experience learning open water diving with Scuba Dogs. The school worked with us around my son’s schedule during the holidays. The instructor was sweet and professional, and my son saw many fish while he was 30 feet under water! Thank you so much for making his diving dream come true!
This was a super fun tour. Our original instructor, Manolo was super knowledgeable and helped us rebook to ensure we had a great experience when weather acted up. We booked two tanks and had a great morning, my only qualm was our new dive leader was very lenient on “island time”. What was listed as a 2-3 hour excursion became 5 when he waited 1.5 hours between dives for more people to show up, so we were stuck waiting the whole time. When the two people finally arrived, we had to wait another 20 minutes, which he disclosed as “gossiping with a coworker” So, we ended up being at the shop from 8am to 1pm, missing the afternoon jungle tour we had scheduled for that day. So, this dive is a perfect, easy dive and it great if you want to see turtles, rays, squids, and corals… just give yourself ample wiggle room in the day you book it!!
Great experience. Saw turtles, fish, and an octopus. Great tour guide. Easy all around. Would definitely recommend
I had the pleasure of diving with Scuba Dogs at Escambrón and I plan on joining them again soon to dive the wall next time. Great knowledgeable and friendly crew. I always felt safe and had a wonderful experience. Thank you Scuba Dogs!
Manolo goes above and beyond! Due to weather, he was very communicative about diving when conditions were safe and best. I only had a small window to squeeze in a dive because there were other plans in our group and I was the only diver- and he was very accommodating! He spent time really teaching me to feel even more comfortable as a novice diver and also spent time to review the various amazing fish and creatures we’ll be able to see. I’m used to diving in the Pacific so this was very helpful and interesting before we went out into the water so I could look out for certain fish! The dive itself was excellent. Manolo made sure I knew conditions weren’t great but when we got in, I personally thought conditions were totally fine! I have definitely dove in worse and so I an amazing time and saw some incredible creatures such as an eagle ray, turtle, squid, and tons of really cool fish I don’t usually see. Manolo became an excellent local source for recommendations for around PR since it was our first time on top of being a wonderful dive master. I will be back and absolutely will be coming back to dive with Scuba Dogs when I do! Highly recommended if you want a fun, enjoyable and memorable time exploring the waters around PR!
Good chil dive! A few people did not show up, so it was just me and the dive master in the group. The reef outside the breakwater is not so exiting but there are till some nice swim-throughs and large fish. Overall a descent experience of diving in San Juan.
