Great narrator. A little hard to tell where each spot is. I wish the map was a little more accurate. It was a super hot day so we only did half the tour. Loved it up to that point.

Itinerary
A lively historic square centered around a monument to Christopher Columbus. It is surrounded by notable architecture and offers an ideal introduction to San Juan’s colonial history.
One of the oldest theaters in the United States, this striking yellow building is known for its historic architecture and long performing-arts tradition. Local legends also connect the theater with mysterious ghost stories.
An elegant Beaux-Arts landmark featuring classical columns, decorative balustrades, and beautiful glasswork. Its refined architecture makes it one of the most distinctive historic buildings near Plaza Colón.
A massive Spanish fortress built to protect San Juan from attacks by land. Visitors can explore historic defensive walls, tunnels, military structures, and impressive views across the city and Atlantic coast.
A colorful oceanfront neighborhood tucked beneath San Juan’s historic walls. Known for vibrant homes, murals, local culture, and its appearance in the “Despacito” music video, it provides a very different perspective on the city.
A museum housed in a historic former marketplace, featuring exhibits connected to San Juan’s art and history. It is a worthwhile stop for visitors interested in understanding more about the city’s cultural heritage.
A spacious historic plaza created to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Columbus’s arrival. Its centerpiece, the towering Teluric Totem, reflects Puerto Rico’s Indigenous heritage and the impact of European colonization.
A museum dedicated to the cultures and history of the Americas. Exhibits explore Indigenous peoples, African heritage, colonization, and popular arts, making it an excellent stop for understanding Puerto Rico’s diverse cultural roots.
Built in 1783, this historic stone structure once stored gunpowder used to defend San Juan. It offers a glimpse into the military infrastructure that supported the city’s powerful fortifications.
San Juan’s most iconic fortress, El Morro has guarded the entrance to San Juan Bay for centuries. Its immense walls, historic military structures, and dramatic ocean views make it one of Puerto Rico’s essential landmarks.
A historic coastal gun battery built to support the defenses of El Morro. Its elevated position overlooking the shoreline shows how Spanish forces protected San Juan against approaching enemy ships.
A striking historic cemetery beside the Atlantic Ocean and El Morro. It is the final resting place of many notable Puerto Ricans and is especially memorable for its location, architecture, and ocean backdrop.
A grand former Spanish military barracks that once housed soldiers, families, kitchens, stables, and storage facilities. Today, the impressive building is also home to the Museum of the Americas.
A picturesque street running through the heart of Old San Juan, surrounded by colorful historic buildings and important landmarks. It captures the distinctive colonial atmosphere that makes the old city so memorable.
One of the oldest churches on U.S. soil and an important religious landmark in Puerto Rico. The cathedral is also the final resting place of Juan Ponce de León and contains centuries of history within its walls.
One of San Juan’s oldest streets, lined with colorful colonial architecture and leading toward La Fortaleza. Its historic character and lively surroundings make it one of Old San Juan’s most recognizable streets.
Dating to the 16th century, La Fortaleza began as an early Spanish defensive structure and later became an important government residence. Its long history makes it one of San Juan’s most significant colonial landmarks.
The only surviving major gateway through Old San Juan’s historic city walls. Once used to welcome important visitors arriving by sea, the massive red gate remains one of the most recognizable symbols of the walled city.
A small museum honoring Felisa Rincón de Gautier, the first woman elected mayor of a capital city in the Americas. Visitors can learn about her influential career and her more than two decades of leadership in San Juan.
A scenic waterfront path running beside San Juan’s immense historic walls. The combination of ocean views, centuries-old fortifications, and peaceful walking areas makes it especially appealing for sightseeing and photography.
A beautiful waterfront fountain celebrating Puerto Rico’s cultural roots and heritage. Located near the historic walls of Old San Juan, it provides a scenic and symbolic finale to the route.

It’s uphill and super hot in September. I’m glad we can have lifetime access since we only finished half.
This tour was great. We took our time, the tour kept up with our pace and didn't skip a beat. The information was informative and the views were amazing. Bring your camera.
Amazing! Great value and exceptional content.
This audio tour was the 1st that I purchased (ever) and my wife and I were extremely pleased. The historical facts were very interesting to learn, and to do it while being right in front of it made it feel grounding since we were in the exact areas with the exact buildings. I like that we got to walk at our own pace. I hurt my back a few months ago and being able to take a break from walking, or stay in areas as long as we wanted made this feel like we were catered to! This was definitely a highlight of visiting PR. I recommend it!
I was a little scared at first, but after I started snorkeling it was great! The crew was awesome, and they made sure that we had an awesome time!
enjoyed getting the facts about places without having to be in a large group for a guided tour. definitely recommend for solo travelers
This was a really great tour. It was easy to pause and do side quests as we wished, then resume when we were ready. I would recommend this to everybody.
This was a useful tour. I wanted to be a little bit more independent than having to go with a group. The information provided on the audio was very interesting. There is a little bit of a glitch when you walk over the same path the audio kept wanting to restart. I would recommend this guide if you want to do an independent walk, but we did get turned around in a couple of places due to our own errors. Overall, I found it to be very worthwhile for what we wanted for that afternoon. The traffic was really bad in old San Juan so we ended up driving back into town a little bit and taking an Uber back into old San Juan to start the tour
I specifically purchased this tour because I had an electric scooter and could not do other walking tours. San Juan was not accessible by scooter. Many of the sidewalks were not sloped or needed to be worked on. Others with this desire to see the old town but use a wheelchair or scooter need to be aware. We only made it to the 10th stop before we turned around because of the unknown ability to make it up and down sidewalks.
Comprehensive tour of the old San Juan area. Starting point was less than 10 minutes from the cruise port. With short stops along the way, the tour took about 2 hours. We did not spend extra time touring the fort or the castle.
The San Juan audio tour was easy to follow, full of good and interesting information and a good length tour. It was timed well with the option to stop and start along the route.
Very good. I saw a lot of walking tour groups. I liked that I could go at my own pace, stop and go see a side attraction or grab a bite to eat, and then start up again.
This was the perfect tour for me because I could move at my own pace. It is heavily focused on military operations and the battle for Puerto Rico. The island has had a fascinating history, often filled with violence and greed. I found it generally easy to use and you can always go back and review information that you might have missed.
We weren't sure if we wanted to join a formal tour, so we used viator credits we already had, and this was a really interesting way to see Old San Juan. The information was engaging, but concise and brought history to life!
Thoroughly recommend this walking tour of old San Juan. We had a day to spend after a cruise and don’t like large group tours. Booked this at short notice. What a find. Clever technology gives the route and information as you arrive at a significant place. But allows for coffee or lunch breaks, or time to explore the fort before resuming where we had left off. Sufficient historic and cultural information, yet flexible timing. Will look for this app on other cities!
Loved the flexibility and ease of this tour. Great, easy instructions to download tour info prior to arriving at the location.
The audio does not always automatically start when you get to a specific stop. Sometimes you must restart the app. Sometimes the audio is delayed when you reach a stop. And sometimes the audio cuts off in the middle. Problems occur most if you try to use another app or phone function (like the phone camera) while also listening. But the information provided was interesting and informative. For the price, it was worth the purchase.
Tour was great. I could go at my own (fast) pace and the commentary was excellent. Important - it’s essential to download the app AND the tour on a broadband WiFi network ahead of time. Not so easy if you decide at the last minute to buy the tour. Downloading on a cellular network took over an hour.
We've stayed in Puerto Rico before, but on the south end of the island and had a rental car. This time we came to San Juan from a cruise; so just had part of a day in port. We thought we learned more and enjoyed San Juan more this time; walking as opposed to driving, gives you a much better feel for the area.
Great self guided tour with lots of information and background stories as well as history. Easy to navigate and understand. Gives you lots of freedom to explore further and pick up later where you left off. I would choose this tour anytime over a guided group tour.
We enjoyed this self-guided tour, it allowed us to enjoy some of the culture along the way! It was self paced so we were able to stop and talk to the locals while still learning on the tour!
Wonderful opportunity to create your own timeline and itinerary. I really liked that you can start and stop this tour when as you like, and that it automatically advances as you walk through the city. Much less expensive than a traditional walking tour, and, especially when you don't feel like sharing an event, a better alternative.
The Self Guided walking tour was great, it allowed us to go at our own pace, and stop when we wanted to. It was easy to navigate the app and to follow along.
This product was easy to use. Good directions to follow. Plenty to see on the walk. Does leave out a few things. Like do not enter la pella neighborhood
Very informative. Easy to navigate. A lot of things to see. It is a lot of walking with some steep inclines. Wear good shoes. Plenty of photo opportunities.
This was a great self guided audio tour. It allowed us to go at our own pace, stop, and make detours to see other things and it used GPS to automatically start the next point of interest when you arrived.
The app worked well. The stories were interesting. It provided lots of flexibility. Well worth the money. I highly recommend it.
This was our first trip to Old San Juan and my wife and I wanted to take a tour but not with a group so that we could go at our own pace. Also the price was much less than a group tour. The technology worked very well. We purchased one tour, downloaded the app on one phone and each used a single wireless ear bud. It did drain the phone battery down over the course of the two hours so be sure you start with a fully charged device. It helps to be familiar with using a mobile map while walking, especially if you decide to go off the route for a lunch break and then start up again, which we did without too much trouble. The tour was well organized and the narrator gave lots of interesting information about the history of Old San Juan, not just each individual site. I would highly recommend.
Fantastic blend of great info and technology led to a wonderful outing. Everything with the app was flawless and we enjoyed the flexibility to go deep if we wanted to or to be able to gloss over or even skip small segments. Word of caution to those driving versus Uber or arriving on a cruise. Parking is a nightmare. I set my GPS for the recommended start spot with the intention of working out from that spot to park. We eventually found a parking garage that we drove around for quite awhile waiting for a spot to open. I share this for two reasons; first , the app made it really easy to jump in at a POI close to our parking and continue on the route, second, I would advise against driving unless it’s necessary. Easy 5 stars for our needs!
our group of 4 bought one and walked around with it on speaker. love that you can walk at your own pace and choose your own adventure. a nice alternative to a big group tour.
I gave it a 5 for the quality of the commentary and the ease to follow directions on the map. That said it took awhile to be comfortable with, so do the tutorial as advised. (Oops, we didn’t!) I also couple have used a more specific starting point than “Port of San Juan “ which is pretty long. (Walgreen’s should have been cited.) That said, it was great not to be corraled into one of the many groups we saw. We got to do things at our own pace. The biggest inconvenience was that it occasionally had a mind of its own, going back to prior stops. The story list, though, helps you correct that. All in all, it worked well for us.
Enjoyed the self pace option! Definitely prefer this to the large groups that are usually shepherded around. Love having the option at different spots to 'learn more'. I did wish it were a bit longer, we seemed to get through it pretty quickly. I would definitely seek this option for future travels.
Loved this!! Was looking for a cheap way to sightsee and learn about San Juan. The tour is very well designed, very easy to use and follow and I loved the stories and info! I would 100% recommend and use again!
It started raining hard while we were on the tour so we tried standing in protected spots, but that apparently put us slightly off the route and the audio kept turning off, so we finally gave up. Later I figured out that we could listen at home by clicking on “know before you go”, but that wasn’t why we bought the tour.
Very easy to use, affordable walking tour. Many people on my cruise paid hundreds of dollars for the same thing, yet this tour gave me independence to travel at my own pace.
The tour took you to many very interesting sights in San Juan. We really enjoyed the tour and the extra information. Overall the tour worked fine, starting up when you came to a location.
We started early, about 9:30, before the crowds and heat, and really enjoyed this tour. It was interesting and informative, not too long or too short - just right! Also easy to use. I like the way the GPS worked to start each segment as we got there - no need to find the right segment and get it started.
Great tour, interesting and informative, easy to install and navigate. Like the tour. Highly recommended!
We were a family of three and we enjoyed this audio walking tour of old San Juan in January. We stopped at places that we had interest in and passed the one that we didn’t like. Few places had entrances fee. We started at nine and completed the tour at 6 after 7 miles of walking. Wear comfortable shoes, clothes and drink water regularly.
Excellent tour, loved the way it was GPS activated. It was informative and interesting. I’d recommend it highly.
A great way to see Old San Juan! The narrator was very thorough with an easy listening voice. When you got to each circle on the map the narrator automatically started describing what you were seeing.
Loved this tour! We were going to pay close to $80 for a group tour when we stumbled across this option. So much better. I love that it automatically starts when you hit certain points, but you can also pause and take detours. We were able to do the forts in the middle of the walking tour which was very convenient. I also appreciated that it felt current and relevant. Would highly recommend this tour!
Tour was as advertised. The app worked seamlessly. Be aware that you follow your progress through your mark on the map, the blue dot. It took me a moment to realize that. However, those instructions were given to me prior. Heat was a factor on the day we walked old San Juan. You can go as fast or as slow as you want. Making stops, taking detours and then getting back on the tour line. Narrators voice was clear and easy to understand. For many of the numbered points along the way, there were additional buttons to play more information if you want it. Those were usually short. I wouldn’t have minded even more information on those additional buttons. The history lesson given throughout the tour is brief but easily understandable. Not too much information. Note to cheapskates: water from the national Park service at the two stops is about four dollars a bottle. Vendors on the street sell ice cold water for a dollar bottle. Just wait till you get outside. If you walked The Tour straight through, it would probably take a couple hours. Allow yourself time to go into the Castillo and El Morro to enjoy those astounding treasures properly. An extra hour at both of those would not be unreasonable. You can spend more or less. It’s up to you. We are glad we purchased this tour. We split our AirPods and listened with one purchase for two people.
It was great. However my phone battery died about 10 minutes after reaching the second castle/ fortress, so I'm not sure if I finished it or not and I did take a ton of pictures. I suggest that you not only start with your phone at 100% but bring your charger and a battery bank. Beyond that it was a great experience. I highly recommend it with no regrets (yes there will be LOTS OF STEEP HILLS TO CLIMB).
The tour program was to be gps activated. This is untrue, and the tour often would not start complete after starts after a break. Maybe if continue without side tracking off the given tour path while eating or shopping. May be good.
I was not able to find the starting point of the self guided. The coordinate points/address of the starting point led me somewhere random. It was 30 minutes away from the Old San Juan which is where I wanted to be. I had to find Old San Juan on my own and just do my own tour.
This guide was great and a lot better than paying a ton of money for a physical tour guide. My daughter and I walked the trail and stopped at several sites.
Great food in luquillo… Took the ferry to vieques. Blue horizon hotel amazing El yunque beautiful. Old San Juan fascinating Lovely beaches isla verde
Personally think this is a great way to get to know old San Juan. Super easy to follow, nice walk around the neighborhood, covers the bases and gives you a brief overview of what you’re looking at. Worth the price. Download beforehand and you’ll have no issues with connecting.
