Incredible!! The family who run the service were fantastic! Easy, fast communication in English or Spanish. Very informative and interesting. The biobay swim was something I will never forget, it was like something out of a fantasy movie! I recommend checking moon phase for the darkest night of your trip to maximize viewing. Absolutely incredible! Pictures do not do it justice.

Ryan was a great guide, very knowledgeable and helpful.
The tour was about 2 hours long. Thank was was beautiful and warm. Surprisingly. We stopped for a dip at the sand bar. Than went to the bio bay. Probably one of the best experiences. Watching the water glow as I swimmer and looking up at the beautiful stars. It actually felt magical. Ended my trip in the best way possible. Loved every minute of it. Stood in the water as long as I could. I will definitely be doing this again.
We did the sunset tour. We got to watch the sunset while swimming on the sandbar. Once it was dark, we moved to the biobay and got to swim with the bioluminescence. It was a great time and I highly recommend this tour!
I am appalled by this company. They were located in an area with no parking or facilities. The dock to the boat was a fall risk it was so slimy and slippery. The operators didn’t offer help at any point and were on their phones or sleeping during the time guests were in the water. Everything was so unsafe. We requested a refund because there were no bioluminescence and once they read that, one of the crew pushed my daughter while she was on the slippery dock. Don’t sign their waiver, they will not keep you safe! I would advise staying away!
There was very little bioluminescence. You had to be in the water moving to see it and even then it was very dim. The hosts really couldn’t give a care in the world as they were on their phones the entire time we were docked or were lying down on the boat with their eyes closed (yes, I’m serious). Not safe! We were also unable to go in the water as the ladder was difficult for someone who isn’t able bodied or strong. To boot, at the end of the tour I was almost run off of the dock by a disgruntled crew member who had clearly seen the negative review we wrote while on the tour. Wouldn’t recommend.
The water doesn’t glow unless you kick your feet and even then it’s VERY dim. Would not recommend. Additionally, the captains are on their phones the whole time you are anchored. Very unsafe.
It really was a great experience. We had around 45 minutes in the water at the sand bar and then another 45 minutes in the bay. Ryan was our Captain and he couldn’t have been nicer! Actually had great conditions for seeing the bioluminescence. Highly recommend.
This was our first trip to La Parguera, we booked this excursion to enjoy the sunset from the water and experience the Bioluminescence Bay! The booking was easy through Trip Advisor and they offer book now pay later which is beneficial when plans change, pay later is two full days before the excursion. Now to Captain Ryan and First Mate Nicole, great team! Captain Ryan is bilingual, knowledgeable and was thorough in the explanation for the phenomenon we experienced. First Mate Nicole was available to serve refreshments, took photos and assisted the Captain accordingly. If you want to know more about the experience, book the excursion, you won't be disappointed.
This was a fantastic trip, better than we had expected. The swimming beforehand and watching the sunset was beautiful and getting into the bay and swimming was magical. We would recommend bringing goggles or a snorkel mask as it is even more incredible under the water. Our captain and guide were also great and made it an enjoyable trip for our whole family. They provided floaties for everyone so no need to worry about swimming, just relax and watch the glow.
Amazing Bioluminescent Bay Experience! ✨🌊 Absolutely amazing and incredible experience! The guide was very knowledgeable, friendly, and made the whole experience fun and memorable. The highlight was seeing the bioluminescence up close in the water—it was truly magical! Our 7-year-old son absolutely loved it and, to our surprise, was excited to get into the water and experience the bioluminescence himself. Such a special family memory! 💙 Highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Puerto Rico!!!
Wonderful experience. Made some unforgettable memories.
Magical, the twinkling water (felt like i was the fairy godmother in Cinderella with white sparkles all around), beautiful clear starry sky, nice boat ride, friendly guide, long swim in pleasant water. Absolutely recommend and will do again if I have the opportunity!!! My teens also really enjoyed! Just an fyi- the parking lot where we met was dirt/gravel with a few inches of standing water. I had on closed water shoes so was fine but everyone was not as lucky in their footwear choice.
Ryan and Nicole were great. We loved learning fun facts about the area and appreciated their recommendations for island exploration. Swimming in the bio bay was straight up avatar. We booked the sunset bio bay tour so our bio swim was right after sunset. It was so cool watching the water sparkle even more as it became darker. It was surreal. 10/10
Our group formed quickly and we even left the dock a little early with Ryan and Nicole. Ryan is a great tour guide. We had an excellent time at both Cayo Caracoles and the bay swimming in water that made our arms and legs glow in the dark. We spent about a hour at each spot and it was great. We are satisfied customers! You get your money’s worth.
We had a great time. The hosts were fun and they took photos for us. They told us a bit about the island as well.
Not sure if we just ended up with an off night for the crew we had (it was noted to us many times they had been working for 20 days straight and we were not to touch the energy drinks in the cooler because they had more tours and would need them), or if this is the typical experience, but the excursion was underwhelming. Don’t get me wrong, the bioluminescence was fun to see and swim in, however we were more of an inconvenience to the crew than anything. At the sand bar, other boats had drinks and were feeding the fish. We were told to get off of the boat and weren’t acknowledged until we were told to get back on. The bio bay was very pretty and our group enjoyed the experience, however there wasn’t anything that made this trip stand out. I would look to other companies who want to provide a stand out experience
I recommend 100% los Mareaditos Charter. Not only are the prices affordable. But the experience is magical and relaxing. Awesome people that will help make your experience a great one. Will continue to use them when visiting.
It was difficult to find the meeting area late at night, so we had to call for assistance after wandering around for 20 minutes searching for our ride. The area was between abandoned buildings in a secluded area, which looked a little shady. When we finally found our captain my sister-in-law asked about life jackets since she isn’t a strong swimmer, and her question was somewhat disregarded with a snarky “everyone here knows how to swim” which made her uncomfortable. My aunt was very adamant that we should not go on the boat and I admit gave the captain a really hard time with her questions, which didn’t help at all. He answered everything calmly and most of us ended up going through with the excursion, even though some of our group opted out and decided not to join. Those of us who went through with it (since we didn’t want to forfeit everything we’d paid) had a nice time once we were on the boat and in the water, despite some awkward conversations due to the earlier miscommunication. Honestly, I wish we’d booked the earlier experience as we’d originally planned as I think we would have had a completely different experience had the dark, seedy atmosphere not influenced our first impressions.
Beautiful experience! Our boat captain and his co captain were very friendly and knowledgeable! We loved that we got to see the bio lights and swim around! Definitely recommend going when there's a little bit of moonlight or non at all.
This was a great experience! I highly recommend travelers do this if they can. Our guide, Ryan, did an excellent job at explaining the science behind the dinoflagellates and taking pictures where you could actually see them. The only issue we ran into was that TripAdvisor recommended we arrive 30 minutes early, but when we got there, no one was there and it was difficult to confirm we were in the right spot, especially in the dark. Once they got back from the trip before ours and we confirmed we were in the right place, we were good.
This was epic! Boat crew was awesome, very nice. Easy to find. Great area, we drove three hours, worth it!
Great experience. Enjoyed it with the whole family! It is a very unique experience. Only thing is making sure you calculate the time of traveling from San Juan.
Amazing experience! Friendly and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend to anyone interested in this!
Fun activity! We stopped on a sandbank and chilled in the water at sunset. We continued to the bay as the sky darkened. We swam in the bay and our movement made the plancton luminesce! Our captain and his partner took photos and shared them with us. We had a good time and the staff was nice. The company has a dirt parking lot to park for free (Google the company name not the address). There are restaurants walking distance.
This was an amazing experience! From seeing the crystal-clear blue waters to swimming at the sandbar, every moment was unforgettable. The bay itself was incredible, and the clear night sky filled with shining stars made the experience even more magical. The surrounding mountains added a breathtaking backdrop that made the entire excursion even more beautiful. This is an absolute must-do when visiting the island. Highly recommended!
Absolutely reccommend! Went with my husband & tweens and had a perfect experience. The departure locaiton is easy to find, and the staff was well-organized, professional, friendly, and focused on safety the whole time. Our excursion left at 6:30 pm, and the ride out to and time spent sunset swimming were fantastic. Then it was amazing to be in the bioluminescent bay - just swimming at night in such a far-flung location was wonderful, and it was of course so cool to see the bioluminesence in action. Amazing opportunity with the Mareaito team, absolutely worth it.
Great sunset charter on Sandbar & bioluminescence bay experience with Ryan & Nicole. Thank you for the opportunity to experience Puerto Rico on the water.
Highly recommend this experience to everyone
Absolutely amazing! The whole trip took about 2 1/2 hours. We were in a small group so it never was crowded. The guides were so friendly and made the experience even better. We never felt rushed and they were fun to talk to! We loved the fun vibe of the sand bar followed by an amazing swim in the bio bay! It was so bright and beautiful, I felt like I could’ve swam there for hours. Thank you!
It was incredible; very informative. Capital Fiol and Linda were the perfect guides. The view at night is unforgettable.
Amazing! So glad we swam in the bio bay as it was truly a once in a lifetime experience. I highly recommend Mareaito charter with their wonderful boat and captain! He explained the history, info about the surrounding area and was a great resource. We all were so happy we did this swim!
Easy trip for an incredible experience!
We went on a cloud filled night. Six people in our group including two 21-year-olds and two 18-year-olds. The sunset swim was a great way to start. Then off to the bio bay. Simply amazing experience. Can’t even adequately describe it. Like doing snow angles in the water surrounded by water fireflies. Don’t miss this!
This tour was perfect! Book the 6:30 so you can swim at the sandbar for sunset, then enjoy the late night tour out to the bio bay. The 6:30 tour runs 2 hours and they didn’t make us leave until it was very dark—something we had be worried about because of all the reviewers discussing the need for complete darkness. We were worried about the brightness because of our tour time, but a message to the operator cleared everything up. Our tour time was perfect between sunset and the moon not rising until later that night. Also, apparently the brightness is better when the sun has shined during the day. So you can check all those things to ensure it’s a good night. We were torn on doing this one because everyone discusses the brightness over at Mosquito Bay, but we found it to be absolutely magical and I think swimming was the perfect choice for the kids. We were not disappointed in the brightness! We took our small children (5, 8, and 10) and they all absolutely loved it. We were worried they would be too scared to get into the dark water, but they all jumped in and swam the entire 30 minutes in the bay. Ryan was wonderfully patient with the children and answered all of their questions, but he also let us just enjoy our time as a family. He did a lovely job. Things to know: There are no bathrooms or changing rooms—so be aware of that if you have little children. The parking lot is very tiny and we got boxed in for about 10-15 minutes after returning so that did make the late night more of a challenge with small children.
Amazing experience! Glenda and Fiol were the best! She was hilarious and we really enjoyed our experience. Safe, clean, and a memorable experience. We took a kayak tour on the north side of the island the first time my husband and I went but we much preferred this boat tour. The ability to swim in the bioluminescence especially bringing our daughter with us was a memory we will always share. Remember to check your moon phases when going, the least amount of light is best. The group size on this charter is best, it was us and 2 other families. One family had small children and they were safe. I could not recommend this particular charter more. Thank y'all for an amazing life experience.
The bio bay tour was amazing! Fiol and Glenda were excellent hosts. We didn't get as beautiful a sunset because it was cloudy, but the clouds blocked the moonlight which made the bioluminescence brighter. The boat we went on was super clean and took us to and from the bay quickly. Glenda told us about the area and the university work going on to help the native iguana. I'd do this tour again in a heartbeat.
This was a beautiful experience it was that the guides that were not personable and it definitely made it seem more they were doing a job. We had just done a different tour the prior day to El Yunque and the guides were amazing!!!
Crew was good - it was very disappointing that we were not able to see the glowing bio bay. It was not dark enough before we had to leave. We had been before so we knew what to expect and this was not what we were hoping for.
I recommend this Bio Bay Swim & Sunset Charter with Mareaito Charters. It's such a unique experience and the tour operators were very accommodating. If you are staying near San Juan, plan in advance for transportation to Lajas, as it's more than a short Uber ride away.
Great experience very nice boat
We had a wonderful time swimming in the bay. The guide was friendly and the experience was really one of a kind. I had to change the reservation time and they were very helpful.
Ryan and Nicole were excellent. We had such a great time - it was such a cool experience. He took some photos for us too. Thanks!
best bio bay tour in puerto rico and we’ve done them all- our guide ryan was cool and informative- la parguera is the best location, even better than vieques
It was absolutely spectacular to swim in the bioluminescent bay! It also felt much safer than I expected (only very small fish live in the water there, so it’s big fish/shark free!). Ryan was a great guide, boat ride was smooth, and they offered us free beverages. And we got to see a dolphin and shooting stars, it was incredible! He recommended going after a sunny day with a minimal moon for best visibility. We lucked out and it was much brighter than I expected. 10/10!
Had an amazing time the crew was so good and nice perfect spot to swim and watch the sunset and the bio bay was a lifetime experience one of off my bucket list 🩷
This was an amazing outing. If you can fit it into your plans, do!! It requires some mobility ability to get on and off a boat. You will be in water where you can’t touch, in the dark, but it is so amazing, it’s worth getting over some nerves. We went with 3 kids (7, 3, and 1). All had a fantastic time! We felt very well prepared by the staff and well taken care of during the trip. I recommend bringing snorkel masks and towels in a splash-proof bag. Flotation devices and cold drinks were provided.
Great experience and cool people working there
Ryan and Nicole were our guides, they were amazing. The Sunset tour was the best you get to experience both Sunset and the Bio bioluminescence. The boat ride was amazing and you can never go wrong choosing Bio Bay Swim and Sunset Charter.
Such a beautiful experience last night at the bio bay. Seeing the water glow around us was so cool and peaceful. Definitely one of the prettiest things I’ve ever seen
