After getting off to a relatively rough start, a day of fun and learning ensued. Yamille was able to create synergy when our family of four combined with another amazing family of about eight… the rest was an epic sharing of stories, history, and perspective !! From the streets of old SanJuan saturated with history ; to a tickle on our culinary palate and a bomba lesson on the shores of Loiza; followed by a visit and meeting of the world renowned artist Samuel Lind…. One could not ask for a more authentic experience. You would be remiss not to seek out this tour while visiting Puerto Rico!! 🫶🏽🫶🏽🌈🌈❤️❤️💃🏽💃🏽

Itinerary
We will start early heading to the iconic Old San Juan Historical Site, considered one of the oldest towns in America and a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Beginning with a sightseeing drive, including picture stops, will give you the chance to appreciate the landmarks of the Capitol Building, San Cristobal Fort and El Morro Fort. Then as we began the walking tour, you will learn about its fascinating history, unique forts, the city walls, the impressive architecture and admire its cobblestones streets and charming colorful houses, surrounded by amazing views to the San Juan Bay.
As we drive to the next stop of Loiza town, you will appreciate other areas of the New San Juan, like the ocean front touristic sector and streets filled with art murals as an initiative to revive less visited areas.
Once in Loiza, discover the influence of our African heritage at the picturesque little town considered the capital of our African tradition. Continue with a beautiful coastal drive through the beachfront community of Piñones, and the chance to savor a more African influenced authentic food in one of the many roadside kiosks and restaurants. Meet renowned artist Samuel Lind at his house and art workshop and learn about his work, inspiration and history. Later, stop at the Castor Ayala Mask Store to admire a collection of hand-made masks and art pieces representing their most unique traditions and festivals. You will have the chance to acquire art pieces in both places, if you wish. End your day learning about our Bomba Afro-Caribbean music joining a class by recognized local musicians and dance to the beat of drums.

Thank you Yamile for making our tour fun and entertaining. It was a pleasure getting to learn more about San Juan.
Our newest family member Yamile…seriously one of the most personable guides I’ve encountered. She introduced herself and learned the names of each family member in my group of 11 as soon as she arrived. She made us feel comfortable and took care to ensure we were always together as we toured Old San Juan and Loìza. Her knowledge of Puerto Rico’s history was fantastic. Despite the unexpected closed parking lots, blocked areas, and redirection by local law enforcement due to the filming of a movie, Yamile ensured we did not miss a thing on our itinerary. She took lots of photos and videos of my family experiencing our culture together…forever memories! Took us to local gems where we enjoyed the original piña colada, an excellent authentic Puerto Rican lunch, spoke to a local legendary artist, Samuel Lind, and his son about the influences of his artwork, purchased some pieces, and ended with the amazing experience of Bomba dancing on the Loíza beach. We loved the tour and our guide!
Our group of 10 adults truly enjoyed this tour!! Loved learning more about the African heritage/culture of PR. We enjoyed the flavors of the local cuisine, and learned about the heritage/history of this area from a local artist as we toured his studio/art. We ended the afternoon learning about bomba dance , a local puertorican dance with deep African roots. We had a fun and enjoyable dance class on the most beautiful beach setting. Lots of laughs were had!! Yamile was an amazing tour guide!! She contributed to our educational experience with her deep knowledge of the area. She is clearly passionate about her work and enhancing our experience of her beautiful island! As a perk she took video and photos of our dancing experience!! Excellent! Would highly recommend
I did not take this tour, but I have serious regrets that I was not there to experience what seems to be the most epic day of my friends’ vacation. My husband and I met up with them after they spent a few days traveling around Puerto Rico. For the second half of our group trip, this experience was talked about at least 5 times a day. The laughter and fun that they shared during their time lived on throughout the trip and even after we got home. If your group of friends want to have the time of your life and make everlasting memories, do this!
We had an absolute blast with Yamile. She gave us tons of great information about everywhere we went, explained about the Loíza culture, food, etc. We visited a local Loiza artist’s house, which also is his gallery. The artist gave us a full tour and explained his art pieces and what motivated him. Yamile then took us to learn bomba dancing, which was an amazing experience. The entire day was very well organized and run very smoothly. Thank you Yamile for a great excursion to Loiza!!! I highly recommend her.
Very interesting tour. I was not expecting much. But the cultural heritage, food, music and dancing along with visiting a local artists workshop was excellent experience. Bomba dancing lesson was very challenging to white people..
This tour was the best part of our vacation! Yamile is a wonderful tour guide. She is so knowledgeable and truly has a passion for the history and culture of Puerto Rico. We had a group of 6 adults and 1 toddler. She made us all feel like her family. Spending the morning in Old San Juan, having lunch in Loíza, visiting the home of the talented artist, Samuel Lind, to Bomba dancing on the beach with the amazing dance instructor, Shelia. Words can't express how amazing and special this tour was. I would recommend Yamile and this tour for anyone visiting Puerto Rico.
We were a group of 10 adults that thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Yamile was a terrific guide. Would highly recommend any tour with her.
My family and I had an AMAZING time! Some of our best moments were captured during this tour. Beautiful sites, delicious food and drinks along with some dance moves. How is that not a good time? Yamile definitely sends you back home feeling like you have a new family member🤩
This is a tour you cannot miss! My family is originally from Puerto Rico and we decided to stay in San Juan to celebrate my father's birthday. With Yamile, you are getting the real deal! You are fully immersed in the amazing food, culture, art and traditions of Puerto Rico. By the end of the tour you will have a deeper understanding and appreciation of the flavors, sights, sounds and the true local culture. Yamile is the BEST and more importantly, she loves what she does. If you don't book this tour, then you are truly missing out on one of the best experiences Puerto Rico has to offer.
This excursion was amazing! Yamile was an excellent guide! She was so knowledgeable and friendly. The Loiza portion of the trip really exceeded our expectations! Our group wanted to book an additional excursion with Yamile but the weather would not permit. Book with Yamile, you will not be disappointed! Check out her website for all her options! Puertoricoasalocal.com!!!!
Yamile was awesome! We enjoyed her expertise in the local sights, current events & history. The day went so smoothly and all we had to do was sit back and enjoy the tour. Yamile adapted to the pace and physical abilities of our group (ages 10 - 80). The tour gives a nice taste of San Juan/Old San Juan. We really enjoyed the opportunity to meet Samuel Lind and see his art. It was amazing to watch (and try) Bomba dance with local artists. Yamile took many pictures of our group which was a great bonus. Highly recommend this tour and Yamile!
Our tour guide, Yamile, was the best ever!!! Yamile gave us Puerto Rican history throughout and even while driving. She explained and answered questions in a friendly manner. We were a family party of 7 and Yamile was upbeat, made us all laugh and interacted with each of us as if we her family. Very informative and much enjoyed and my family had a great time. Definitely will do this tour again.
Wow and wow... Yamile does it again! My husband and I met Yamile back in March 2021 when we had the pleasure of doing a private excursion while visiting Puerto Rico. Well, we had the opportunity to visit San Juan again in December 2021, on a cruise port of call, and this time we booked a private excursion for our family of eight. Yamile helped me in planning the perfect excursion that accommodated everyone in the group, including my 69-year-old aunt. Yamile's bubbly personality and her sheer love for Puerto Rico shines when she is providing the tour. We visited the Rum Factory, Loiza, participated in a Bomba dancing class, and then ended with Yamile taking us to my husband and I favorite restaurant. I have certainly adopted Yamile as my prima and I highly recommend that you take an excursion with her when you are visiting Puerto Rico.
From the minute we met Yamile we truly felt like we had known each other for years. She took great care of us and did an amazing job making sure we had fun while also learning the history of San Juan. Would absolutely recommend this tour!
Amazing!!! Do not sleep on this tour!!! Yamile made us feel very comfortable, like family. She is a native Puerto Rican, Full of personality, energy, and knowledge, Ready to share everything she knows about Puerto Rico. She picked us up in an air-conditioned van drove us to various land marks of San Juan, Old San Juan, the Forts, The Capital, the Princess Prison, you name it saw it. We hopped off the van & walked thru the streets of Old San Juan, while she told the history of the town. We had Piña colada‘s at the world famous Barrachina restaurant. They did not disappoint! The second part of the tour included lunch at an amazing Puerto Rican restaurant. And tour of Loiza. This beachside town was full of African history and culture. We learned so much. We visited an art gallery and learned how to Bomba Dance on one of the small beaches, with Afro-Latin conga drummers. Thank you Yamile for a great tour. Our family will always remember the experience. You’re a great dancer too!
Loved the tour, culture, history, FOOD and mostly the tour guide - Yamile!! She definitely made the trip very interesting and welcoming. Felt like a native of the country. Love her energy and knowledge of the history and culture! Would definitely do this again or another tour with Yamile!!
The sItes were beautiful, the history was interesting and informative, but the best part was Yamile. She made the tour enjoyable!! Very personable and endearing. She made you feel like you were from Puerto Rico. Would do again or do another tour with her, she’s amazing!!!
Yamile is absolutely phenomenal!!! She is so knowledgeable about the history, nature, food, and culture of Puerto Rico. We went on the Rainforest ATV, Swimming and Beach Adventure Tour as well as the Old San Juan/Loiza Tour with her and immensely enjoyed both experiences. She was very personable, welcoming, and excited about being able to show us the island. We appreciated her being able to pick us up and safely drive us to and from each location. She kept cold waters on her van so that we didn't get thirsty and made sure that we were always comfortable. She is very flexible and adapts food choices, walking paths, and visited locations to accommodate your group and was able to offer awesome recommendations for other places for us to eat/visit during our stay. She sees everyone as "family" and treats them as such. Yamile did a wonderful job at translating and was even able to teach us a few words and phrases in Spanish. She is the best "paparazzi" you could ask for and helped to capture all of our special moments! We HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend that anyone wanting a personalized, informative, enjoyable, relaxed, fun, energetic experience book through Puerto Rico as a Local. You will not regret it!!! Thank you so much Yamile for making our time in Puerto Rico so special and memorable! You are truly a priceless gem! <3 The Mitchell's
This was a great tour that Yamile put together despite many closings due to Covid. We took a brief walk through Old San Juan with recommendations for places to visit later when open. We then headed to Loiza for a fun Bombas class followed by Pinones to eat. We took a drive along the coast before visiting Samuel Lind’s art gallery. Beautiful sculptures and artwork everywhere and even purchased artwork signed by Mr. Lind before leaving. Finally, we visited the Cave in Loiza before heading back to San Juan. Yamile was informative and even took the time to show us around the neighborhood we were staying in before dropping us off. I would definitely recommend.
Excellent friendliness of its people, history, architecture, traditional dishes, Christmas opening from the end of November...
