It was a pretty long drive and barely saw the lights unfortunately. It was a beautiful night but no luck with blue lights.

Itinerary
Immerse yourself in the authentic heartbeat of Puerto Rico’s southwest coast with this relaxed tour focused on the unique cultural fabric of La Parguera. Far from the curated, corporate footprint of San Juan’s tourist hubs, this coastal village in Lajas invites you to slow down and experience a living, breathing community where the traditional fishing heritage seamlessly blends into a vibrant, open-air lifestyle. Sunset Chinchorreo: Start your evening along the waterfront malecón (boardwalk). Dive into chinchorreo—the local tradition of hopping between open-air spots to enjoy street food and drinks. Sample fresh bacalaítos, browse handmade crafts at Plaza San Pedro, or sip a mojito at casual harbor-side hangouts. The Bio-Bay Swim: As darkness falls, board our boat and slide through mangrove channels into the pitch-black bay. La Parguera is the only bioluminescent bay in Puerto Rico where you can legally swim. Slip into the warm water and watch millions of microscopic dinoflagellates light up. Every movement triggers a brilliant neon blue-green glow around your body. Put on snorkeling goggles to watch glowing streaks shoot beneath the surface like underwater stars.

This excursion was extremely disappointing and poorly organised from beginning to end. First, the driving behaviour of the driver who transported us was completely unacceptable, particularly on the return journey, when he appeared to be in a hurry to get back. His reckless driving made us feel extremely unsafe. Second, we were taken to the departure point 2.5 hours before the cruise, for absolutely no reason. We were left waiting unnecessarily, wasting valuable holiday time and effectively losing an entire day due to extremely poor planning. Furthermore, the captain could not communicate in English, the safety measures on board appeared inadequate, and the boat itself was dirty and poorly maintained. Most importantly, why do you continue organising and selling bioluminescence tours when you know that the moon conditions and the location make it practically impossible to observe the phenomenon? This is extremely misleading and unfair to customers who pay specifically for this experience. I would strongly advise others to avoid this tour.
It was somewhat of a let down not having to see the bioluminicense in effect, the moon light may have a factor, not sure if it will be he same case during new moon. Was not visible when others swam on the bay. The captain tried to show the luminescent affect of rhe watter bringing some buckets in the boat, but was not much either. Maybe wrong time to do this with the moon going to full-term. They should have this only during New Moon when the moon does not give light. But then its business and tourism. But having disappointed customers and tourists does hurt the attraction. Not much of activity also in the tourist spot with most of the restaurants and businesses closed. The center does give a good time to take pictures. People and vendors we're really nice and helpful.
You don’t see anything, a complete waste of money. If you want a boat ride in the dark this is for you.
Everything worked out perfectly, and it was an amazing experience. Plenty of time to swim and experience the bioluminescence - bring goggles for more of an experience. My only criticism is that they could have clarified the meeting point a little more. You're not meeting at the restaurant, there's a booth at the end of the pier from the restaurant. I had to ask around a little to find it, but we still had plenty of time until the boat departed, and the crew was very friendly.
Extremely disappointing. There were only six of us at 8:15pm so they put us in a small boat with one old man driver who did nothing to help us. The ladder to get back on the boat were metal bars, not even steps. Neither of us were going to be able to get back on that boat so we couldn’t swim. The bioluminescence was very faint - it looked like white milk so faint the iPhone couldn’t pick it up at all. So no photos or videos of the two young girls who did swim. When we got back to the dock 45 minutes later I could not find my shirts or one of my shoes. No idea what happened. The captain kept barking at us to turn off our iPhones because even the light from the lock screen made it so he couldn’t see. One member of our party stumbled on the uneven deck getting out and severely scraped his arm and knee. Would not bother with this tour or tour company. Viator has much better tours.
This was an amazing experience. You should plan to be present in the moment more than capturing vids.
Neat experience but short 15 minute swim. Not worth long drive. Do a kayak instead if closer to San Juan. Our guide did not give us any education on the bioluminescent. That would have been nice. Really no effort on his part other than buckling our life preservers.
Trust God and the staff the glow is amazing!! if you bring your camera of any kind you can’t use any lights or flash it makes the glow very dim but it’s a must do experience in Ponce Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 if you staying in San Juan only large groups will get transported so try to have your own transportation
My husband and l were celebrating our anniversary. It was a very interesting trip and our guide , Israel, was wonderful. We learned a lot about the country. He also recommended a good place to eat.
My husband and l were very impressed with this trip and our guide. His name is Israel. He was the best! I would definitely recommend this especially if Israel is your guide. .
The boat driver was nice, but he wasn’t a guide. He didn’t explain anything about the bay. They had floatees for around your waist that was great for the 15-20 minute swimming.
We visited day after the new moon, pretty good conditions to experience. The swim and the colors was a good experience. Googles definitely helped. The guide (boat operator) did give us basic information, but beyond that there was nothing much to share. Tour itself is advertised to be 1.5-2 hours, but it lasts only 45 mins. 15 mins boat ride back and forth and 15 mins in the bay. Advertising on duration is misleading and overpriced for the time we get to spend in the bay.
This was an awesome and memorable experience. I highly recomment to add this to your list if your visiting puerto rico!
Experience was great, admission fee was fine, the length was shorter because they were waiting for some people that never showed up and they didn't extend the time on the water. But over all great experience.
Swimming in the bioluminescent Bay was awesome, however, they only give you 15 minutes to swim. That time started from the first guest that entered the water. For the amount of money, it’s not really worth it. The tour started over 30 minutes late and lasted less than an hour in it’s entirety. I would choose a different company for this experience. The company subcontracted Gina’s Johnny boats for the tour. The captain and crew hardly interacted with the guests at all except for to tell us to move forward or move backward, depending upon which direction the boat was moving. A little disappointing. I would not book this tour again and I would advise others to look at other companies that offer similar tours.
From the moment you get on the boat it is 45 minutes. The bioluminescence swimming is incredible, felt safe. They use a timer and you only have 15 minutes of swimming. I just wish we had a lil more time swimming. The trip back to dock is another 15 minutes for a grand total of 45 minutes to the dot.
You HAVE to do this experience!!! It's like magic. It's about 10 minutes of swimming which is plenty of time!
It was a great experience swimming in the bioluminescent bay, however, they only allow you 15 minutes for swimming. It was advertised as “after you’ve had plenty of time to experience the natural phenomenon.” Definitely not plenty of time… They subcontracted Gina’s Johnny Boats for the tour and the captain / guide didn’t really interact with the guests except to tell us to move to the front or the back of the boat, depending on the direction the boat was traveling. The tour started almost 30 minutes late and lasted just over 50 minutes, in it’s entirety. It was a lot of money to spend on an experience that lasted less than an hour. I would not book with them again and would choose a different company in the future. The description of the experience was absolutely misleading.
Our guide was awesome The water was extraordinary We were blessed with perfect visibility of the microorganisms
Only take the experience that I took with the speedboat, because you get a chance to get in the water. It’s very safe, they put a life ring around your waist so you will float. It is a beautiful experience. The water is warm not cold at all. Also if you don’t want to get in the water, you could put your hands in the water and still experience it. Please understand and know what way you wish to experience this remarkable moment. You will not have the same experience on the big boats.
This experience was absolutely amazing. The water was so warm and my skin sparkled like glitter when I pulled my arms out of the water. The sky was gorgeous! We literally saw the Milky Way and the amount of stars in the sky was crazy!!!! I would recommend everyone to do this! It was so dark and the only thing you saw was the sky and when you moved around in the water the water would glow. This was the most exhilarating experience we have ever had. Must try this!
If you’re looking for a truly unforgettable experience in Puerto Rico, the bioluminescent bay is an absolute must! ✨🌊 It was magical for both the adults and the kids—watching the water glow with every splash is something we’ll never forget. Our captain, Franco, made the entire experience even better. He was knowledgeable, friendly, fun, and made everyone feel safe and welcome throughout the tour. Everyone was amazing and accommodating from the front desk to the captain! This experience see experiences shows my family the beauty of nature and darkness!
I took the tour by myself, the crew never acknowledged my presence, it was nothing to see, except for the boat ride.
We had an excellent time. Boat ride was smooth. Bio bay was awesome to swim in and see in person. Highly recommend this experience.
Great experience, great people.
This is a MUST do while in PR!! Our boat driver was very helpful and made sure that we were safe at all times. It was magical!! Godsend an unforgettable experience!! Worth every penny spent!! Would definitely do it all over again!! Ohhh don’t waste your time trying to get a photo unless you have special equipment! Just enjoy the moment!! 10/10 experience!!
The swim in the bay was a thrilling experience that fascinated the kids. A 15-minute swim is not what you expect for the price that was paid. The staff is lukewarm and not attentive to the needs of small kids.
Franco, our tour guide was awesome. He provided us with a little history of our excursion and was detailed and informative of what we were going to be doing. He was great.
It was very beautiful and fun will do again. It was a little behind schedule but that was not a problem. The staff was fantastic and funny and made the experience wonderful.
The add shows pictures of people in kayaks with bright, glowing water. Please know you will be on a large boat, not a kayak, and you have to jump in the water off the boat. There were several other large tourist filled boats coming through with people and lights. The water did glow, but nothing like the pictures. Important to note that we made sure to go when there wasn’t a full moon as recommended. We saw some glow, but I am on the fence on the cost.
This was one of the best experiences of our whole trip to Puerto Rico. It was magical swimming in the bioluminescent bay under the stars. We rented a car and did the self transportation option and stopped at Cascada Delicias and Ponce along the way. Highly recommend this activity.
We had a blast and the water temperature was just right. Swimming in the bioluminescence simply felt magical. If you book this don’t short change yourself… Jump in!
Literally coolest experience ever! We’ve kayaked through the bioluminescent bay in Fajardo but there’s nothing like swimming in it! They’ll suggest you bring goggles but we didn’t end up using ours!
Videos and pics will not do justice to this experience, you really need to be in the water to experience the magic. Nature is phenomenal, this was on our bucket list for a while and it was amazing. I can be scary for kids as you ride through the water in pitch dark conditions but once you get to the bay and dive in to experience the bioluminescence it’s absolutely magical. Just that it’s too short of a swim, would recommend the operator to increase prices and let us swim for at least 30 minutes. Also have some decent changing room facilities near the dock.
This was a waste of time and money. Apparently the moon has a lot to do with the “lights”. There needs to be movement in the water to even see the lights. Not sure what I expected but I was disappointed!
The bio bay was so fantastic! I highly recommend seeing it. We went with a pretty full moon and still had a ton of visibility.
The experience itself did feel short, but I would have stayed in the bay for hours if I could. We were part of a bigger tour group that got split onto 2 boats, a smaller boat and a bigger boat. We got onto the smaller boat, and thankfully it worked out that way, because our tour guide told us the group on the bigger boat would not be able to swim in the bay. We would have been VERY disappointed if that was the case for us, but it wasn’t. We traveled with a 9 y.o., a 7 y.o., and a 3 y.o., they all went in the bay and LOVED the experience. We brought our own swimmies because the younger 2 did not do well with life jackets provided on other excursions. I definitely would recommend this excursion and would do it again if I could. We Loved it!
Excellent experience! Our family enjoyed it along with dinner at one of the restaurants at the marina. Definitely add it to your trip!
I had a great time going with this company (Caribbean breeze adventures) I was late for the check in and then when we arrived they let us in and they waited on my lil kid to use the bathroom, they're very friendly and nice. we had a great time me and my kids and it was an amazing experience! thank you fr all the staff and organizers.
Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with this tour. We had done a bioluminescent bay tour with another company last November (which we thought we had booked again), so we had a good point of comparison. Our tour was scheduled to depart at 7:15 p.m., and I completely understand waiting a little longer until it was dark enough to see the bioluminescence. However, that delay ultimately came out of the guests' swim time instead of extending the overall tour. There were two boats on our trip. We were fortunate to be on the first boat and had about 10 minutes in the water. The second boat arrived after us and, from what we observed, only had about 5 minutes to swim before everyone had to head back. For the price of the tickets, I expected a much better experience. Had we driven all the way from San Juan specifically for this tour, I would have been even more disappointed. The bioluminescence itself was beautiful, but the limited time in the water made the experience feel rushed and not a good value.
Headed to the bioluminescent bay and it did not disappoint Our boat captain was very informative and the water was warm. Only downside was the almost full moon which dulled the experience but we were still able to see the glow. Can’t control the moon phases! Would definitely recommend.
It was awesome !!! this was my second time booking this activity and next time I come I will be doing it again.
Friendly. Late pick up. Bay was impressive. $60 for 3 and we were allowed to swim for 20 minutes.
What a magical place. My kids will never forget the experience. Feels like you are in another world. Thank you so much.
The tour we booked asked us to be there early (7:15pm) however we didn’t board a boat until almost 8pm. The boat was a bit run down and our driver wasn’t super interactive however the experience being in the water with the bioluminescence was awesome though not long enough.
This was an amazing experience and highly recommended for families. They accommodated all 15 of us and recommended a dinner spot for us
Enjoying BIO BAY was very exciting! A slower more leisurely commute in and out would have been preferred to enjoy shoreline. Time in water was limited as well.
"Our tour was cancelled on the morning of the day we had reserved. We were offered another date or a refund, but unfortunately we were leaving the next day so we chose the refund. I wish the tour operator had given us more advance notice or disclosed upfront how many people had booked—the listing only showed 'available' or 'sold out,' with no transparency about group size. Knowing the tour was undersubscribed would have let us plan an alternative activity. This was particularly disappointing since we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. If you book this tour, try to schedule it early in your vacation so you have backup options. (Note: we couldn't, as all other dates were sold out.)
The paperwork said to be there at 8:15, them the ticket person said 8:25, but we didn’t board until 8:45. All of that was a bit frustrating, but once we got on the boat, the guides were nice and the experience was great! Being able to swim in the water with beautiful stars above was an amazing experience.
