Our experience was amazing! Our tour guide was so knowledgeable about Puerto Rico’s history and taught us so much about El Yunque Rainforest. The hike was an adventure that my husband and I absolutely loved. The water was so refreshing! We had such a wonderful time and would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Puerto Rico.

Itinerary
Get adventurous, get muddy and get off the paved trail! Hike to explore different zones of the rain forest and enjoy beautiful views, natural pools and the Atlantic Ocean. Once we arrive to the skirts of El Yunque we will start with a 25-30 minute journey on a river-wading and rock scaling path to the river. You will see bamboo trees, flowers, and beautiful plants and experience rivers, waterfalls, and natural trails. We will make a stop to visit a collecting pool that forms at the base of a small waterfall. Here you will have the opportunity to swim in its crystal clear waters, swing from a rope and enjoy the different tones of its deep pools. Then, after a few minutes of hiking and rock climbing to the upper sections (more strenuous), arrive at a natural river where you can swim, cliff jump, enjoy the natural water slides and small waterfalls. After the hike, we will stop for lunch at a local restaurant (food cost not included) for about an hour to an hour and half.
We will then proceed heading East to join on the guided nighttime bioluminescent bay kayak tour. Experience the mystical mangrove channels leading to Laguna Grande. Look into the water to see the glowing pyrodinium bahamense, microscopic planktons capable of producing natural light at the touch of your hand or paddle (like fireflies). Admire these amazing organisms up close as you paddle on a 2-person kayak through the mangroves for an estimate of 30-minutes, and learn from your eco-tour guide about this fragile and unique ecosystem. Once reached the lagoon, you will have some time to play with the water (from within the kayak) and receive more information, before we head back to the mangrove channels for another kayaking journey of approximately 30 minutes . Enjoy provided snacks at the end of the kayak tour, before returning to San Juan. Please note: The bio bay is an unpredictable natural phenomenon that may be influenced by multiple factors. Bioluminoscity level can vary from very visible to minimum or none without any previous notice. Full Moon phase may also affect the visibility of the bioluminescence. In the event of this happening alternate methods such as the use of a tarp will be incorporated in order to appreciate it.

The rainforest tour was amazing, our guide Jason was the best and gave us a great tour seeing beautiful plants and places to swim.
For those looking for a few more details about what to expect this is for you. We got picked up and then headed to the rainforest after picking everyone up. Our guide Jason was super accommodating and stopped at a store to allow everyone to go to the bathroom and purchase anything they would like. Upon arrival we were required to wear a lifejacket and helmet. Jason made lots of stops along the way to educate us on the rainforest which was great! The hike to the pools was not far at all, maybe 3/4 a mile. It did take longer due to the stops. There was some moderate climbing over boulders and rocks to get to the waterfalls and jumps and rope swing but the trail to the pools was not difficult at all. Jason was also very accommodating to those who did not want to do any of the jumps and let them hang out at the pools. There were a lot of people so we did have to wait a while for the jumps but Jason waited and made sure to give us time to enjoy the experience. Then we walked back to the bus. We were able to leave everything on the bus during the hike. Definitely bring clothes, etc that you are willing to get wet. Jason had a dry bag he allowed us to put our cell phones and sunglasses in during the water experience. After that we were dropped off at the beach. Note that we did have to wait around 3 hours to be picked up so there is a lot of down time there. A separate individual picked us up and took us to the ecotour booth to check in for the bioluminescence kayaking portion. We did have to wait a bit longer. Note that there were a lot of mosquitoes for this portion but not in the rainforest. Then we were paired up into kayaks to kayak around 1.5 miles to the lagoon at back. Personally this was not difficult for us but several people struggled with the kayaking so it took quite a while and didn't get back until after 9pm. People would get stuck and push us back, etc. The company was nice and tried to be helpful to those who struggled but it was a little frustrating. Because of the light pollution we were put under a big tarp in the lagoon to see the glowing in the water for around 5 minutes. But you can see it well with the tarps. Then we got back in the van (the driver waited for us during the tour) and drove the 1 hour or so back and dropped everyone off. So it was definitely a very long day. Note that you will get weighed and also cannot bring anything other than your phone if needed on the kayaks. People did wear flip flops, etc but note you do have to walk through the water a bit to get to the kayaks. I hope that was helpful for those who want more detailed information about what to expect. Overall it was a long day but a fun experience!
Really two trips - you head out to El Yunque, do the tour, then off to a restaurant and a beach before being picked up later to head off to the bioluminescent lagoon George was great, really friendly, clearly cares about all the guests enjoyment and wellbeing. Even with a slight wait for a replacement bus, when the original one broke down, highly recommend. Later, bio bay really good, all kayak staff took good care of us and had a great time!
I booked this excursion for my nephew and me while visiting San Juan to celebrate his 21st birthday. I made the reservation through Chase Travel and provided all requested details at the time of booking, including both of our names and accurate weights. The purchase was accepted without issue, so I reasonably assumed everything was in order. After arriving in San Juan, I called to arrange hotel pickup. During that call, I was informed that my nephew exceeded the 225 lb weight limit for the Bio Bay kayaking excursion. He weighs 235 lbs—a detail I had already disclosed during the booking process. Despite having that information upfront, the company still accepted payment and later refused to issue a refund. The representative stated that the weight restriction was listed on Viator. After reviewing the listing again, I did find the restriction—but only buried in the fine print. It was not clearly stated in the title, overview, or checkout page without digging deeper. That lack of visibility is a significant issue. My nephew is fit and active, and there was nothing to suggest he would be excluded from a standard adult kayaking activity. In fact, typical kayak weight capacities often range from 250–350 lbs. To Bespoke Lifestyle Management: if weight limits are strictly enforced, they should be clearly and prominently disclosed—and more importantly, your system should not accept bookings when a customer provides information that disqualifies them. Accepting payment under those circumstances and then refusing a refund feels misleading and unfair. Buyer beware: if you’re booking with this company, make sure to thoroughly review every detail—including the fine print—before purchasing, as key restrictions may not be clearly communicated upfront. I’ve included screenshots of the listing and checkout process, both of which lack clear disclosure of this restriction. I hope this feedback leads to more transparent practices moving forward so others don’t have a similar experience.
Great experience with awesome tour guides, especially Jason on the El Yunque tour. If you’re lucky enough to get him, you’re in for a treat
This tour was so much fun! Jason, our guide for the El Yunque portion of the day was fantastic. Along with a great hike, we learned all about the native medicinal plants of the island, and a lot of other really interesting things. Jason took tons of amazing photos that he shared so nobody had to take their phones along. The lunch stop was fantastic, and then we had about half an hour at the Luquillo Kiosks waiting for the second leg of the tour. The bioluminescent kayaking was so cool to see. The mangrove trees we navigated through on the way to the lagoon were really beautiful, the guide EJ pointed out herons, jelly fish, and other interesting things about the mangroves themselves. Even with it being a new moon, we were able to get a really good view of the sparkling lights created by the motion in the water. I would recommend this tour to anyone, it was an amazing day!
Took my mom and friend here. Had a great experience. The guide was great and it was cool seeing the forest and hiking
This was technically two tours with two different guides. The first guide, Jason, was amazing! He led us through the rainforest, made sure everyone was safe, and kept the experience fun. All the other guides from other companies knew him and loved him—such a friendly community. The second part, the kayaking, was a bit underwhelming. The experience was fine, but the bay didn’t really glow (even after they had us hold a tarp over our heads). Overall, the Bespoke tour company is awesome and I highly recommend them for the El Yunque hike. If your main goal is to see the Bio Bay glow, you can skip the kayaking portion altogether.
Loved our tour guide! He preps us so we are not surprised - there will be mud and LOTS of it. We got to slide on rocks and do some 10 ft jumps.
El Yunque was an incredible experience! The bioluminescent bay was cool, but honestly could’ve been skipped. An overview of the day: Jason was very punctual with the pickups. He kept an energetic, friendly, and helpful attitude the whole time. We stopped at Walgreens to pick up snacks and water shoes (highly recommend them!). We then went to el Yunque. Was incredible! Jason knew a lot about the flora and fauna in PR. The hike was fun and Jason helped us through the more difficult areas (I’d give it a moderate difficulty overall. Nothing too crazy). We got to cliff jump, to rope swing, and to go down the natural water slide. As someone terrified of heights, I’m very appreciative of my group’s encouragement for me to give these things a try. I felt safe the whole tour and people’s boundaries were respected if anyone wanted to skip any activity. Jason brought a dry bag to hold our phones in during these activities. I was the only one doing the tour combo with the kayak, so I was dropped off at the beach for an hour to relax/grab a drink while waiting for the other tour bus to pick me up. This transition between tours was smooth and well-communicated. The kayaking tour was fun, but the luminescence itself was underwhelming in my opinion. It is also hard doing it solo because you will be paired up with a stranger (hard to coordinate with a stranger in a kayak). Overall had a ton of fun! Highly recommend this tour if you’re in PR. Jason is the best! Things to bring: - Water shoes - sun screen - swimsuit - Change of clothes (so you can change into something dry after the el Yunque part) - extra change of pants/shorts (your legs will get wet in the kayaking part) - bug spray - snack + water - water proof phone case with lanyard (and dry bag if you want one for yourself)
This is a very intensive activity and a very long day. Jason Bonon was our rainforest guide. He did a great job all the way around. In the hike to the falls, he stopped to explain the vegetation. This was really to stop and let us catch our breath. Louise was our driver who also our second guide. He was very helpful in assisting how to climb rocks or when to step/grab, as needed. This rainforest tour was very intense and not for the faint of heart. The tour entailed climbing rocks at high heights - put your left foot in this rock hole and right one in this hole then swing hand over to grab a rock crevice. The waterfalls were beautiful and the natural slide very beautiful and fun. Second part of the trip was a let down. We were very tired from the first trip so rowing for the second trip was very tiring. We paddled about an hour in the dark through mangroves. The bio luminescence could be seen was more akin to seeing flakes in the water. This trip was a little disappointing. We were sore for days after this double trip!
Great experience! Booked this excursion because it offered pickup and drop off off near our Air BnB. Uber would’ve cost us more from San Juan to Fajardo for just 2 ppl. If ur a group of 4+ then just book these excursions separately or enjoy a full day at El Yunque and then an evening doing the kayak tour. The best part of the El Yunque Rainforest is the cliff jumping, rope swing and water slide. Mind you, if the current is strong, these activities may be delayed or shortened. The hike was fine - even my 65-year-old mom with RA could do it but it was a challenge. Rocky, uneven, uphill/downhill paths, slippery at times, etc. If you’ve hiked up a waterfall before then it’s a similar experience. Best part was the bioluminescent bay in Fajardo. It was just so magical. You could actually start seeing them while still kayaking in the mangrove. It’s not a glowing blue like some videos/photos you see online. They are like tiny fireflies in the water. They just glow a white/golden colour in the water - while you paddle, if you splash in the water with your hand/feet, etc. We travelled end of October so perhaps that made a difference. Be prepared to bring your phone pouch with a lanyard or your insta360/gopro attached to yourself as it will be completely dark while you kayak through the mangrove. Highly recommended combining both activities. For convenience. The lunch stop made very tasty mussels (a bit salty) and chuletas fritas (fried pork chops) dishes! I find most dishes in Puerto Rico to be on the salty side but maybe that’s just how they like their dishes. If you do this excursion on a Sunday, be prepared for super LOUD motorcycle and cars passing by the restaurant, Asador Boricua. Overall, it was super worth it and highly recommended!
Our tour was fantastic. It is physical. You will get wet. The correct shoe is important. Jayson was terrific with Bespoke.
The El Yunque part was great! I wish this was the only part we did. The tour guide communicated well with me before and during. And he was so descriptive, kind and knowledgeable. I would definitely do this part of the tour again. The second part of the tour was a waste of time. Now I know that if a company gives out free Mosquito repellant to put on, run! All I got from this tour was about 30 mosquito bites. They knew they had not seen the lights in the bay for at least 3 days but they didn't tell us. So we didn't see anything without the tarps over our heads. They assumed since we were a group of 22 that we were fine with double kayaks, but my family were a party of 3 and there was another party of 5 so we wanted single kayaks. They said "discuss it and let us know what you want". We told them we want single kayaks, then they said, well we don't have them, well why even give us this option. And from the get go, the transportation picking us up after El Yunque was almost an hour late. In all fairness, I believe 3 different companies were used and I don't know the names of the companies. But the only one that was worth it was the company that took us on the tour to El Yunque. The company that did the Kayak tour was horrible, and the company that transported us after El Yunque, although he was kind, never apologized or explained why he was almost an hour late.
Definitely worth it. Hike isn’t bad just a bit difficult to climb at times but the climb leads to a very fun water slide and cliff jumping. Tour guide definitely added to the experience. Kayaking was a bit of a struggle at night but if you have a coordinated partner with you it’s fun too.
It can be very slippery so watch your steps. The guides were wonderful, and watchful for the group. We had 11 family members from 9 to 68 in ages.
Amazing experience with Jason. Got amazing photos/videos and he encouraged me to do things I’ve never done like cliff jumping and water slides all while ensuring I was comfortable and safe. He explained all the flora and fauna on the way and always had a smile and high energy. 10/10 recommend to anyone! The bio tour was also amazing.
I will try to answer all the questions I had about this before going! Overall, we had an amazing time on the rainforest tour and bioluminescent bay kayaking tour. It ended up being the highlight of our trip. The reason this review is 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the lack of information available beforehand, which can leave you feeling unprepared. The only reason we ended up being adequately prepared is because we did a deep dive of the reviews, both good and bad, and erred on the side of caution with all of the things we brought with us for the day. El Yunque Rainforest Tour I think our tour guide tried to pick us up at our room of the hotel, but we were waiting in the lobby so he ended up calling us to let us know he was there. On this tour, the hike is at max, 1 mile total (out and back). Yes there is mud, and depending on how rainy it is, it could be a lot or just a thin layer. If you want to participate in any of the water activities (water slide, cliff jump, rope swing), you will need to walk through water up to your waist. That means your shoes are fully submerged and your clothes will get wet, and stay that way for the rest of the time there. Biggest recommendation is to complete the tour and hike in water shoes, and bring an extra pair of shoes to change into afterwards. You will do some "rock climbing", but the tour guides will show you where to place your feet and help you up when needed. You leave all your belongings on the bus, so really no need to travel as light as possible as advised. Bring at least 1 change of clothes and a towel as there will be an opportunity to change at lunch. You will sit on the bus back wet, but it is only about a 20 minute drive to the lunch kiosks. If you're looking for a true tour of the rainforest with lots of flora and fauna, this is not it. This tour you see a small trail and they point out a few things, but it is definitely aimed at people looking for "experiences" and not necessarily nature. Lunch You will be dropped at a lunch spot that has approximately 60 food kiosks. Majority are restaurants where you can sit inside and have a bathroom to change your clothes. The restaurant your tour guide will recommend had some of the best food we had during our entire stay. There are also drink booths, ice cream, and a beach to walk along behind the kiosks. A different bus will pick you up from lunch, so don't worry about sitting on a wet seat from the morning tour. Bioluminescent Kayaking There is a bathroom when you arrive so you can change if necessary. Once again, you'll be able to leave all of your belongings on the bus. Your guides will start the tour orientation relatively quickly after getting everyone signed in. You will enter the kayaks from inside the water, so you walk out about waist high again. Depending on how tall you are your clothes may get wet, but your shoes will be submerged. Put your water shoes from the morning back on! If you have any experience kayaking, try to be in the front of the line or you will get stuck behind people figuring it out for the first time. Once at the lagoon, your tour guides will look for a good spot to see the algae glow. You may not be able to see it as much as social media would have you believe, and depending on how dark it is you will likely need to use the tarp provided by your tour guides to see much. Really tuck the tarp around yourself and block out the light for the best views! The day definitely took a good 12 hours. As long as you are prepared, it is an excellent value for the money. Bring a change of shoes for the best experience :)
Be prepared to SWEAT – but in the best way possible! Our El Yunque and Bio Bay Kayak Tour was an unforgettable day packed with nature, adrenaline, and awe-inspiring sights. We were lucky to have Jason and Felix guide us through the El Yunque portion – they were a fantastic, energetic, and super engaging team who made the whole experience both fun and informative. From rock climbing and a natural water slide to cliff jumping and a rope swing, the day was full of thrilling options – but don’t worry if you’re not up for all of it. Jason and Felix were incredibly accommodating and made sure everyone felt comfortable and included, no matter their fitness level. Now for the Bio Bay Kayak Tour – a magical but slightly challenging experience. The group is guided together regardless of experience level, so PACK YOUR PATIENCE and be prepared for a little chaos on the water. You may find yourself bumping into trees or other kayaks along the narrow mangrove channels – it's all part of the adventure! Glow sticks are provided on each kayak for visibility, but it gets VERY DARK and navigating can be tricky. If you can, bring a headlamp to help guide your way. Despite the bumps and turns, once you reach the glowing bay, it’s absolutely worth it. Highly recommend this tour for anyone seeking adventure, natural beauty, and a little bit of magic under the stars.
Great adventure with a wonderful guide also loved the amazing plants and flowers . Very well organized . Liked the extra safety of helmets
Amazing! Guides were great. Experience was amazing! Got to see and do a lot in one day which worked well and was worth the day. If you want to get a lot done in one day, this excursion is for you!
We had Andrea as our tour guide last year and she was AMAZING! She thought about our safety, and made sure to celebrate my coming birthday with everyone singing in the van! We had great conversations and experiences! Another awesome person who they call Tarzan helped navigate us as well along the water slide and helped me quite a bit. Major kudos for an excellent adventure!
It was a fantastic experience especially for the activities in El Yunque. The tour guide who is also the driver is knowledgeable and took good care of every participant. I recommend the activities between rocks, cliffs, and river. The guide provided life jackets and helmets so it’s safe to do these activities. During hiking, participants need a little rock-climbing and walking in the rivers. Even not joining water activities, everyone would get wet on the way. A pair of non-slip and closed toes shoes is needed. Bio Bay kayaking, needs paddling for about 1 hour . This time we only saw little glowing sprinkles by splashing water underneath big black cloths, probably because of almost full moon night or other reasons. It will be better not to have big expectations for seeing lots glowing algae to join kayaking in BioBay during moonlight Many mosquitoes there. Even they provided mosquito repellent, still lots of mosquitoes.
We were picked up at our hotel at 8:30. The guides for the first portion of our tour kept up the energy and treated everyone like family. Our time spent in El Yunque was an absolutely incredible experience. This adventure is for you if you love nature, aren't afraid to get dirty, and are a thrill-seeker. We went down a natural water slide, cliff jumped, & swung on a rope like Tarzan into the water below. There were quite a few other groups going through the same areas, but none of this interupted our tour. The guides took pictures & videos of us so we could be in the moment. We were able to send ourselves any of the photos & videos we wanted from their iPad when we left the Rainforest. Everything about the El Yunque tour was amazing! After the Rainforest, we were taken to a restaurant that was pretty good. The reason I gave 4 stars is because of the time in-between our tours. We were dropped off at Luquillo beach which is beautiful & a great way to spend our time, but we weren't prepared for it. We were told to come back to the same spot in an hour and a half to be picked up by our guides for the second part of our tour, the bio bay at Laguna Grande. Bespoke did not communicate with us when our tour guides were an hour late. We stood there waiting until finally one of us called the company. They did not respond to me through viator so I would not recommend communicating with them through the app or website. Just call their number from Google if you have any questions or concerns. When we were finally picked up, we were taken about 30 minutes to the bio bay kayak tour. This tour was done through a different company. Bespoke just transported us there. This transportation was a key reason why my boyfriend & I picked this tour since we flew to PR & did not have our own transportation here. The kayak tour company, Puerto Rico Eco Tours, did a great job overall. They were very helpful when we had to navigate through the mangroves at night. Please learn to kayak prior to this tour because it holds up the rest of the group when you don't know what you're doing. Be prepared for it to be quite buggy, but there is bug spray available for you to use when you arrive. The guides had tarps to help us see the bioluminescent microorganisms glow when we disturbed the water. Our day was full of unforgettable experiences, but we were definitely very tired by the end.
My experience was great! Our tour guide Jason was very friendly, attentive & informative. He made every bit of the experience amazing and fun. It was mine & my best friend Fransheska’s first time visiting El Yunque even though we were both born here & have visited plenty of times. Our group was awesome & we’d recommend this tour to anyone.
The El Yunque Rainforest Tour was an unforgettable adventure! Julian, our tour guide, and Luis, our driver, were both awesome from start to finish. They kept the energy high with their great sense of humor and made the whole experience feel fun and relaxed. Julian shared so many interesting facts about the rainforest and made learning about the area super engaging. Luis was just as great, and together they made an incredible team. They also went above and beyond taking tons of pictures for us, which I really appreciated. It let us stay in the moment without worrying about missing memories. Highly recommend this tour if you’re visiting Puerto Rico!
Only got to do the Biobay. Hike got cancelled because too much rain, so not safe. Biobay was amazing! The contact with the company was the problem. They changed from email to text and phone, but I was on airplane mode. Had to call and then text them when not picked up - learned then that the first part was cancelled. They also changed pick up location from hotel to another location. It wasn't far, but it was a little frustrating.
Friendly, knowledgable guides with a great sense of humor. They made our safety a priority so that we could make the most of the experience.
Wonderful experience hiking the rainforest and kayaking through mangroves! It was a very long day almost 13 hours, with easy hotel pick up at 9:15am and drop off 10pm. The hiking part was almost 3-4 hrs long then they took us to a restaurant for lunch. From restaurant we got picked up by different guide around 5pm and he took us to the lagoon for bio bay. Jason, our tour guide for rainforest, was great! He made sure that we were safe and was very considerate of different strength levels of the group members. Natural waterslide was the best part! Biotour was a great experience. Almost 3 miles of kayaking thru mangroves was fun! We did not able to see the full affect because of the full moon. They used the tarps over our kayaks to see the planktons glow. Overall a great experience!!
This was a great hike! We had the tour guide Hannah and she did a phenomenal job of explaining what we were seeing in the rainforest, making sure everyone was safe and comfortable with the activities we were doing! The water activities were a lot of fun and the scenery was gorgeous. A must do tour in Puerto Rico.
Adriana was an amazing tour guide. She was fun and happy and you can just tell she loves what she does. She made our hike a great time and made climbing and jumping fearless! Bio Bay was a fun kayak tour but a bit difficult with such a large group. We didn’t see much but we still had fun. Bring bug spray!
So beautiful and and informative. Loved learning about the history and fun facts. Adrianna was a great guide- highly recommend!
We loved this all-day adventure!! Highly recommend but know that it is a long day!! The hike and all the water activities in the rainforest were a blast!!! The part of the rainforest park we went to was crowded - just to set expectations that it will not feel like you are lost in nature! But the tour groups there handled the crowds really well - everyone waited patiently to try all the natural features!! Our guide, Jason, was OUTSTANDING!!! High energy and made us all feel very positive about the experience!!! The weather in March was perfect to enjoy this - the temps weren't too hot and the water was comfortable. The bio bay kayaking was really fun and beautiful to see the bioluminescence in the bay!! We all thought it was a great day. There are a few things I would recommend to make this day the most enjoyable: 1) Bring snacks or be sure to buy them when they make a stop on the drive to the rainforest 2) Go ahead and snack when you get back on the bus after the rainforest. It is not a long drive to the restaurant but you go to a local place and it takes a while to serve all the meals - totally understandable and I wouldn't change a thing about it bc the lunch was delicious but if you tend to get hangry at all, go ahead and snack on the bus on the way to lunch to make the long/leisurely lunch more pleasant. And a long, slow lunch is great bc there is no rush to get to kayaking until it's dark anyway. 3) bring multiple changes of clothing. You get wet during both activities and it's nice to be in dry clothes for the bus ride and lunch. this isn't critical but a recommendation. 4) use bug spray LIBERALLY for the kayak - and do not be afraid to wear long sleeves and shirts with hoods for the kayaking part even if it is hot. you can splash water to cool off. My son and I thought we sprayed a lot and we were eaten alive on the row out to the bay. my husband had on a long sleeve shirt with a hood and sprayed that and wasn't bothered nearly as much by the bugs. Do all that and you are going to have an AMAZING day out!!! We LOVED it!!!
This tour is a very long day but so worth it! Definitely eat a big breakfast before you go, and wear shoes you’re okay with getting muddy/swimming in. The El Yunque portion specifically was an absolutely unforgettable experience - our guide Jason was AMAZING. The biobay kayaking was an awesome once in a lifetime experience, but would be best suited for those with some kayak experience as it requires a good amount of navigating and working against the current in the complete darkness.
Adrianna and Cristian were the best tour guides! They made sure that we experienced all the rainforest had to offer! Our family had the best time. I appreciate that this company really promoted safety with life vest and helmets. With younger children it made all the difference. I highly recommend this tour and you should be so lucky to have Adriana and Christian as your guides!
“Hike” is pretty misleading and the bioluminescence was underwhelming. 1/3 of your day will be spent waiting around (at a rest stop, at a waterfall, at a restaurant, outside the kayak shop, etc). I wouldn’t book this tour again. As I mentioned, you spend a good bulk of your day just waiting around. I understand the need for buffer time but to spend an extra 20-30 minutes every time we stopped somewhere to just sit around was completely unnecessary. I feel bad for the families with young kids who had to just sit around bored and impatient. It just felt like poor planning. The “hike” is walking up a path to a crowded waterfall where all the other tour groups end up. You climb some rocks to get to the rock slide, cliff jump and rope - which I admit are pretty advanced - but then you wait in line to do each activity. Based on the description I expected a longer hike but it was more of a water activity/adventure. Bespoke switches tour guides half way through and the second “guide” was more of a driver. He provided no information and just dropped us off with a kayak company. Kayaking at night was cool but the bioluminescence was underwhelming; I understand it’s based on the weather and such but I think it would have been better in Vieques. We also only spent 10 mins in the bay and a majority of the activity was kayaking. Overall the activities were fine but the waiting around for hours really annoyed us. We came to PR to explore and relax, not wait around random places for the touring company (note: not the tour guides who were great) to get their stuff together.
My friend and I selected this tour, as it hit two major items we wanted to do. El Yunque Rainforest and Kayaking the Bio Bay. Additionally we needed transportation, and this company provided pick up and drop off from San Juan. Amauri was our driver/tour guide for the first part of the day, and he was incredible. The rainforest hike was amazing - but strenuous. They are not kidding that you need to be an active person, it is not a flat trail it is very muddy and you are slipping and sliding down rocks. Which you should absolutely keep in mind. The cliff diving, waterfall and overall water activities in the rainforest were phenomenal. This was a highlight of our trip. The only reason I am giving one less star, is because the Kayak portion was a let down compared to the first half of the day. We went close to the New Moon to try and get best views but unfortunately for us it was cloudy so the clouds were reflecting the city lights for minimal viewing which means low bio lights and no beautiful starry night. Which we understand and is not the reason for a star removal, however the tour guides we had were just mediocre they seemed like they didn't want to be there, were bad at directions and just overall disappointing. If we ever try the Bio Bay again we would try a different Kayaking company as there were numerous options at the drop off point.
Amazing! We toured with Adriana and she was so sweet, knowledgeable and helpful. She made everything so easy and fun. The tour itself was beautiful (although the hike was shorter than expected). Would highly recommend :)
My son and I had an amazing experience! I am not as much of a risk taker but my son was able to experience all the excitement while I enjoyed the rainforest. My upper thighs felt it for two days after. You definitely need to be active to attend this trip. Definitely worth the $$ but you are wiped out after a full day of activities. I would confirm it's the right time of year and the moon is going to cooperate so you can actually see the bioluminescents. That was the only downfall with our experience.
This was an amazing adventure! Frankie and Chris were awesome. So glad we did this. It wasn’t always easy but so worth it.
Our tour guide Adriana was so amazing and gave a detailed and thorough explanation of everything in El Yunque and made the experience unforgettable. She went above and beyond to ensure we had the best time while making sure we stayed safe and respectful of the rainforest.
We did El Yunque and bioluminescent tour. Our tour guides Chris and Frankie were AMAZING, HIGHLY recommend them as your tour guides they are very charismatic and very knowledgeable! After the hike, natural waterslides, and rope swing they drove us to get lunch and from there we switched buses to do the bioluminescent kayaking. The moon was so bright it was hard to see the water light up, that is out of their control. However, they did make it possible to see the bioluminescent by covering all our kayaks with big tarps and we were able to experience it that way. Great full day trip experience a MUST to do in Puerto Rico.
Jason and the trip leaders were great! They made the experience fun and had a lot of information about the rainforest. The hike itself was muddy and had quite a bit of rock climbing. While it was beautiful, it was a heavy traffic area. There were long lines for the water activities due to so many groups-and we even went on a Sunday. I don’t regret doing it, it was very fun, but was looking forward to seeing more nature and less tourists. The kayak portion of the trip was fun. It was the off season but we were able to see some of the glow in the water. The guides were very nice!
George was a wonderful tour guide- he made sure everyone felt comfortable while we were hiking & tailored the water activities to everyone’s comfort level. We got some amazing photos & the El Yunque hike was the highlight of our trip!
We had an amazing time on this tour! It was great for if you wanted to do two big activities in one day. Our tour guide George for the hike was fantastic. He even took photos and videos of us for the water slide, rope swing and cliff jump! He also unified a group of strangers with his energy! The bio bay was great too however unfortunately the moon prevented some visibility but we were still able to see what we came for. However it was hard to get a tour experience because there were so many people in our group. Overall a very long day but worth it!
An amazing experience. Our guide, George, was an excellent leader and we loved his energy. An unforgettable adventure!
We did the rainforest guided tour and bio bay combo. I will preface that we are above average hikers and do a lot of excursions on our vacations. 1. The rainforest tour was fine. We had a great guide in Jason who made it entertaining. The hike was pretty short and crowded. It was explained that many trails are still closed from Hurricane Maria many years ago. In my opinion, the waterfalls and slides are nothing to get excited about. But again, I'd rather do a long hike than frequent stops. In all, a very relaxing afternoon. 2. The evening kayak to the bio bay was great. I wish we had more time to spend in the bay. We could see very well and was worth the trip. Overall, it was a good trip. Pick up was on time and the day was a full 12 hours for sure. Bring water and snacks. Snacks were non-existent and the lunch spot was ok, but clearly a tourist spot. I would have preferred somewhere more authentic for lunch. If you are looking for a change of pace from San Juan, sure, go for this trip. You get what the booking description describes and everyone was very kind and informative.
This was a really fun time! The hike is great if you're used to hiking. It's not fast paced at all so you're able to take your time! You're also able to say no to any of the jumps or slides if it's not your pace. Overall, a really fun day in the rainforest and in the water!
Absolutely LOVED the El Yunque Rainforest. Frankie was an amazing guide who was very passionate about the Rainforest and was very attentive to all of us. We had a ton of fun there. The reason I gave only 3 starts is because the Bio Bay was not great. They made us kayak through some mangroves in complete darkness, which was not easy. The tour guides did a TERRIBLE job of helping to guide us through the darkness. It really ruined our trip to the Bio Bay.
