Bring bug spray. Dress to get wet, including your shoes. Bring a poncho, chances are great that it will be raining in the rainforest. We walked in the rain regardless if people did not have a poncho or umbrella so be prepared.

Four types of the forest can be viewed from Yokahú Tower: Colorado (smooth to the south), Tabonuco (irregular surrounding with white-leaved Yagrumos), Palm (on the steep slopes) and Cloud Forest (on the ridges) are all visible along with the coastline and all the way to the Virgin Islands on a clear day (10 mile + view). The dense old forest of the Baño de Oro Research Natural Area in the upper Mameyes Valley to the east may also be viewed.

Our El Yunque tour had some great moments, especially with our first guide, Rafael. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and shared so much about Puerto Rico’s history and culture during the drive — a wonderful start to the day. The bus itself was comfortable, and all of the drivers we had throughout the day were professional and did a great job. We did expect more of a hike in El Yunque, but it ended up being a short 10‑minute nature walk. Because the guide repeated every explanation in both English and Spanish, the stop stretched to nearly 30 minutes with a lot of standing around. While I appreciate the inclusivity, it would be helpful to offer English‑only or Spanish‑only tour options for guests who prefer a more streamlined experience. We visited two additional spots in the park before heading to Luquillo Beach, where we spent quite a long time. Lunch at the kiosks was delicious. After that, another driver picked us up for the Bio Bay portion. We didn’t realize that bioluminescence is very minimal at certain times of year, and unfortunately we didn’t see any lights in the water. Guides had us get under a tarp with several other kayaks to try to see something, but nothing was visible. We wish we had known this ahead of time and skipped the kayak portion. A third driver took us back to San Juan, which meant tipping three different people — something we weren’t prepared for. It would be much better to have one driver for the full day. Overall, it was a very long day doing all three activities together. In hindsight, we would have chosen the half‑day El Yunque tour and skipped the Bio Bay portion. That said, Puerto Rico Access Eco Tours is a solid company with great staff, and I would highly recommend them — especially for travelers looking to explore El Yunque with knowledgeable guides.
Plan your trip around the moon cycle. You won’t see much with a full bright moon. The operators did do their best to keep it dark so we could see but unfortunately there was too much light to truly appreciate the bio bay. The kayaking was fun but strenuous for someone out of shape. I also wish they took more pics they do take pics before we leave but they didn’t get me and my son. I would have loved to have at least one good pic.
Needs better itinerary after booking. No usable itinerary after booking. Should list River shoes, wear swimsuit as no place to change in El Yunque, not advised for people with arthritis, also when you say 5 years plus it suggests beginner. Also bay has strong current through mangroves and difficult for non kayakers. Younger were fine but not recommended for older unless in tip top shape with no joint issues. Tour operator blamed Viator about itinerary. I couldn’t get I touch with anyone via numbers listed either. Tour operator offered $30 per person back since bioluminescence has left and did advise before trip but haven’t seen that credit yet. Also Luquillo was a bit long. Again better itinerary would have helped. Luquillo Beach is very busy and fun if you like music blasting. Very hot and humid on day we went and no decent restroom facilities unless you eat somewhere.
The Good: The night kayaking at the Bioluminescent Bay was incredible! Seeing the water glow with every paddle stroke was truly magical. A huge shoutout to our guides: Rafael, our rainforest guide, was very warm and informative, sharing great insights about the ecosystem. Eric, our kayaking guide, was also fantastic—incredibly helpful, kind, and made sure everyone felt safe navigating the bay. Areas for Improvement: I did the full-day trip, and there are a few things that could be improved for a better experience: Rainforest walk: I expected the walk to be a bit longer and go deeper into the forest to explore more of the nature. It felt a bit short. Scheduling/Pacing: There was a very long wait after the rainforest and beach portions before the kayaking began. It would be helpful to inform full-day customers about this long gap in advance so they can prepare. The time at the beach felt a bit too long given the downtime that followed. Overall: The kayaking itself and the quality of the guides were 5-star! If you don't mind a bit of waiting during the day, the guides will definitely make the experience worth it.
Great tour for the full day (9 am to 10 pm) visiting the rain forest, a waterfall, a high tower with beautiful views, Luquillo beach which is authentic and has lots of bars, restaurants and shops. We also enjoyed kayaking under the moonlight and even got to see bioluminescence but under a tarp because of the full moon.
If you want to see the waterfalls this is not the trip. Lots of food kiosks with local Puerto Rican food to choose from at Luquillo Beach. Bio bay night kayaking is very dark so tricky to maneuver through the water.
Rafael was AMAZING as a tour guide. He was very friendly. We loved all the places and transportation. Great trip!!!!!!!
The rainforest was amazing! Our guide was phenomenal! The drop off at Luquillo kiosk & beach was just ok. The food was great but the beach was a party beach. Trash & no where to rinse off. The kayaking was fun, but no where near bioluminescent unless u put a tarp over ur head and could kind of see sparks. The time in between events was a little long, but we enjoyed all the staff and the experience! Bring sunscreen & bug spray!
My experience with the El Yunque tour was disappointing overall. The visit to the rainforest was extremely short and simple—nothing like the pictures or descriptions shown in the promotion. Then the driver dropped us off at Luquillo Beach at 12:20 p.m. without any explanation and simply left us there. We were not informed that we would have to cover extra costs to rent a beach chair and umbrella, which was an unexpected expense. To make things worse, the driver came back 59 minutes late to pick us up, and we had to wait another 15 minutes for all the other passengers to arrive. Almost 6 Hours at the beach was terrible experience. The kayaking activity was the only part of the tour that was truly amazing. As for the “snacks included” in the package, they were just a small bag of Lays chips—which is unacceptable considering the price we paid for the tour. In summary, the service did not match what was advertised. There was very poor communication, disorganization, hidden costs, and an overall lack of professionalism. Only the kayaking experience met expectations. I would not recommend this tour in its form.
What a day! We left our hotel at 8:30 and got back at 9:45. We packed so much into that day. Raphael was great! We had a second driver for the Bio Bay (can't recall his name) but at the end of the night dropped my daughter and I off closer to our hotel so we didn't have to walk our 20 minutes back to hotel.
Loved this tour to El Yunque, Luquillo Beach, and the bio bay! The rainforest hike was super chill and perfect for beginners. So many great food options at the Luquillo kiosks—come hungry! The bio bay was amazing to see, but bring lots of bug spray—the mosquitoes were intense. Overall, an awesome experience!
the the guides were amazing! raphael was our tour guide in the rainforest. he made the experience educational and was hilariously funny! aj, nitshy, emily and joe were our guides on the kayak. they got us pumped up and were awesome!
Great experience and tour! Angel was a wonderful tour guide. I would recommend booking this experience!
Loved it all. Simple pick and drop off procedures, great and knowledgeable staff. Would recommend! And the Luquillo Beach kiokos were really good too
There were so many companies offering tours of the Rain Forest and Bio Bay, we really combed through the details trying to decide which to choose. Ultimately we decided that spending 2hrs at a river in the rain forest was not where we wanted to devote our time so we chose this one and boy were we glad. We had such a great time in the morning with Angel who was hilarious and an awesome guide. We did go to a river, and had 25 min to swim or rock hop and take photos which was the perfect amount of time. We then spent several hours at the beach, got drinks and fun food at our choice of 60 restaurants. In the evening we kayaked out through the Mangroves to the bio bay and saw the luminescence in the water as we splashed it. Kayaking at night in the dark under the stars was something our whole family will remember. You will enjoy this!
It was well worth the time and money and was super fun. You get to go to an observation tower, waterfall, and nature walk with swimming in the river if weather permits. 4 hours on the beach with little shops and food. And the night kayaking was magical. You can see the glow better during warmer months of the year. Got back at 9 P.M. which was 2 hours later than advertised so be ready for a full day.
We started with the fact that they never communicated in advance to give instructions. I had to call repeatedly until I could arrange the tour. When the big day arrived, in my application I made it clear that I wanted a tour. In Spanish it turned out that it was not like that, in the anvil which is the most important part of the tour they do them to leave The pace was very fast and the time to enjoy it took a maximum of 20 minutes, it took more time to get there than to enjoy it. We didn't go to any waterfalls. And everything was too fast for us to then They take you to a place where they leave you for 5 hours, which is Luquillo, it is an unattractive beach with most of the sites closed. And without the possibility of being able to do something else. This was fatal, the truth is that it was 5 hours lost where it could be distributed much better on the anvil and give it the value it needs, not that fatal service. And finally they took us to the bio kayaks and it turned out that it is not the season, just to appreciate how impressive it must be in summer. The rest of the time you can hardly appreciate anything. In short, it was a very bad tour with terrible service and a negative experience of so many things that the island has to offer. I do not recommend anything, neither the bde tourism company nor the tour t They must remember that customers are important and that is what is paid for in order to experience the greatest satisfaction of the journey.
None… spent lots of time in the vehicle. Would no recommend. The guide was great. The wait between the bio bay kayak was way too long.
My husband and I flew into San Juan a day early for a cruise in order to be able to take this excursion and it was the best experience of the trip. Rafael was our guide for the morning tour of the rainforest and was a constant source of information and consideration. He was willing to answer any question asked, not only about the rainforest but also about life and culture in Puerto Rico making this portion of the day a totally enjoyable learning experience. Once we reached the rainforest he not only told us about the flora and fauna but demonstrated indigenous techniques such as making a hat from a single leaf and using rocks to create paint for petroglyphs or body art. His concern for our enjoyment and safety was constant. He was even able to spot an elusive coqui which he said he had only been able to find once before. After the rainforest, he dropped us at the beach for lunch, shopping and relaxing. There were many food and drink choices and we enjoyed a light lunch while watching the waves roll in. We planned on sunning and swimming but the weather was dreary with intermittent light rain. This also made the water grayish-brown rather than the Caribbean blue of travel photos, disappointing but beyond control. At 5:15 we were picked up by Angel who drove us to the bioluminescent bay where we were given the briefest of instructions and adjusting of the kayak seating. We were given much too little information as to how the seating should be adjusted which resulted in my husband being unable to use his legs to brace himself while paddling. This made it extremely difficult and tiring to do so and necessitated adjustments after leaving the dock—much more difficult. Being told that we should have done this at the dock was “blaming the victim” as there had been no information about how we should be positioned before setting off. Upon reaching the bay, our guides gave a short explanation of the bioluminescence then let us paddle around on our own as desired to create splashes and wakes to see the glow—-incredible! When it was time to go back we were battling against the tide making progress extremely difficult. All of my disappointment in our guides from the beginning of the experience completely disappeared when the female guide tied our kayak to hers and the male guide tied the other two kayaks to his and they literally pulled us all back to the dock! I was unable to paddle the entire time due to a medical condition and my husband’s fatigue after the trip out left him almost completely unhelpful in paddling once we were hooked up so that our guide truly did all of the work. I am so sorry that I can’t remember her name. Considering that this excursion cost us not only the standard fee but also the cost of a hotel room and two extra meals—-it was worth every penny!
Don't know if this was the cheapest one. It sure looked like it though. Most of the people were friendly. The kicker was that on the bioluminescent bay the lead guide sort of ditched us. I was rammed multiple times by other guests. I backed up to get out of their way and the lead guide just sort of took off. She couldn't have heard me screaming at her if she tried. I lost complete view of her in the middle. She stopped 2 times and then took off each time. The trip up to that point was okay. I would have been happier just driving my self for the first half, but so many reviews said don't just let them. It was easier letting them drive but for all purposes it was basically an advanced Uber for the first half. Kayak guide just left me upset. I would have be fired for this lapse in safety. Their were guides behind us, and it is truly hard for this part to be unsafe. The one truth I have learned in life is don't ever count out stupid.
It was absolutely delightful. However the 4 hour stay on the beach was a little much. We did not know that was what leisurely lunch and shopping on the beach meant.
This is a very long day. The El Yunque part was amazing and I give this a 5 star review. Shout out to Rafael -- he was great!! We thought logistically it made sense to do this all in one day since we are staying in San Juan and it's a 45 minute drive to Fajardo and Luquillo is on the way. But we spent 4 hours in Luquillo and you really only need time to eat and then you're done. The beach isn't anything special. The bio bay was really cool but there were about 1000 people too many at one time because there are so many tour operators. And when we were going back in the dark there were large motorized boats coming the other way. I'm shocked no one has been run over by those boats. The kayak company this tour uses is fair but the guides really didn't speak to us other than to give instructions. They did give a little information on the phytoplankton that cause the bioluminescence but really only minimal info.
I loved this tour, I really enjoyed the whole day! Our tour guide was Rafael and he was great, very nice and knowledgeable. The tour was great as they take you to 3 different locations and you get to see a lot of the island. Be prepared to for a full day of activity, it is doable but it is a long day. Eat a good breakfast, bring an extra change of clothes and a towel if you plan on getting in the water, which you totally should! Bring water shoes and a water bag for your phone for the river/beach, sunblock and bug spray for the kayaking! Overall this tour was great and I highly recommend it.
I had a great time but felt this excursion was mostly spent traveling throughout the day. It wasn’t worth the price but I was still happy to experience the nature side of PR.
Great day. Fun way to see the best of Puerto Rico - tropical rain forest, beach and kiosks in Luquillo, and biolum bay (so cool). They did a great job answering questions before hand and getting us around.
The trip was great! I wish the hike would have shown more of el Yunque and been more interactive. It was more so a stroll through the rainforest. I also wished there would have been cliff jumps and waterslides but we just splashed around in a creek. To be fair, we got exactly what was advertised but this tour was a lot wimpier than other ones. Still was very beautiful! The rainforest, Luquillo, and kayaking were all amazing especially the kayaking! Tour guides were so sweet
It was an amazing trip! Rafael was so knowledgable and welcoming to everyone. The Bioluminescent bay was such a blast, and all of our guides were so kind and made everyone feel comfortable.
First the great: the Bio bay kayaking was amazing! Was better than my wildest dreams. The Captains of the group were knowledgeable & helpful. Second the "fine": the rainforest was beautiful but there was no hiking. We stopped at a Tower, a waterfall & a small river. That's it. Lastly the poor: we were dropped off at Luquillo for more than 5 hours! (Not the 2 as stated). We were told pictures that were taken would be available. They are not. All phone numbers are disconnected. No response to emails. Find another tour group.
An amazing experience, rain or shine!! As a solo traveler I was worried I may not enjoy myself as much as the other guests—wrong!! Beautiful rainforest, a nice beach with great cocktail and food stands, and beautifully bright water! Expect to get wet whether from the beach or the rain, but don’t let that keep you from booking! Bring sunscreen, bug repellant, and shoes that drain well.
Raphael was an absolute joy. He shared his knowledge of El Yunque with delight and was great at keeping everyone engaged and happy. The waterfall, nature walk, and river swim were super fun. The Bioluminescent Bay was hands down one of the best experiences I have ever had. There are no words for how amazing that was. Emily was our main kayak guide and she was also extremely knowledgeable and super fun. I would absolutely do this tour again.
This tour was a good touch base on the east coast of Puerto Rico. If you'd like to spend more time in one location, I'd recommend going there separately as the tour keeps you moving to get to everywhere in one day. The highlight was definitely the bioluminescence kayaking.
A great experience for a full day. Everyone was very professional and our tour guide, Rafael was THE BEST! Super knowledgeable on all historic and cultural matters. The bioluminescent kayak tour was unforgettable. Highly recommend Peniel Eco Adventures!
The rain forest, beach and biobay are beautiful and we enjoyed each stop. Within the rainforest, we traveled by van to three different stops (tower, waterfall and river). We were under the impression that we would hike on trails to the different spots within the rainforest, so we were a bit disappointed when we discovered that was not the case. By far, the highlight of the trip was the bioluminescent bay. The guides were organized and knowledgeable Overall, the trip was fun and transportation was reliable and guides were helpful.
This tour covered the top 3 things outside of San Juan we wanted to see. Communication and transportation were excellent, our guide was informative and friendly. We went into the tour with the expectation that we would we hiking in the rainforest to a waterfall. We made 3 stops in the rainforest and there was not a hike. Would have liked to have spent more time in the rainforest and less time on the beach. The bioluminescent bay tour was great although don’t go near the full moon. We were unable to see the bioluminescence until they put a tarp over us to block out the light. Not the full experience we were hoping for but paddling through the mangroves at night is an amazing experience! The staff was excellent.
We had a great time. It's the perfect way to see so much of Puerto Rico. It's a long day but a lot of fun! Best to book on a day when it is warm and not raining.
It was a wonderful experience to share with my boyfriend. The tour guides were amazing, knowledgeable, helpful, and funny. Joe, Nichi, AJ, Jareff were great! Emily was the best.
Our tour guide was so animated and enthusiastic full of history and helpful information about Puerto Rico! The forest was spectacular and we got to see the tower and falls. The highlight of the trip was the bioluminescent bay nothing short of magical.
The Bioluminescent Bay at night was AMAZING. We went out before sunset so was able to see on our way in, which was very beautiful. We spent enough time out the water. Even though the ride back was pitch black, our guides made it very easy. The rainforest tour was just a bus tour. Our tour guide was phenomenal but I would have liked more time to hike and less time at the Kiosks. If I could do it over again, I would only book the Bio Bay tour and visit the rainforest and kiosks myself..but I also had a rental car. I had to book all three because the Bio Bay was fully booked by the time I was looking at it.
Amazing experience you can only have in a few places in all of the world. The guides were efficient and informative. I would recommend to anyone who has the chance to experience this.
Our tour guide Rafael was amazing and made our tour so much better! If weather conditions prevent you from seeing the bioluminescence at the bay, they will let you use a tarp to see better
My mother and I recently booked a tour excursion with your company to El Yunque, Luquillo Beach and a night kayaking tour to the Bio Bay in Fajardo. Our tour was for Sunday June 6th 2023 and by far was the highlight of our trip. The bus was clean, comfortable, and nice and cool on a long, hot day on the road. We are not new to the island, this wasn't our first trip. It wasn’t even our first excursion to El Yunque. It was, however, the best tour we have experienced. Our guide, Ingrid, was absolutely the best. Her energy and charisma kept the group entertained while providing wonderful facts about the island and El Yunque itself. Her compassion and hospitality are a true example of the culture of the Puerto Rican people. As natives of the island ourselves, we pride ourselves on representing our people and our island to the fullest and Ingrid did that. She is a gem and I would recommend this excursion because of Ingrid's professionalism, skill at navigating and driving a precarious road, her knowledge, and her ability to captivate her group.
We were unable to take this excursion because of illness. No refund was offered by the tour operator.
Everything was great. Grandma Litza is awesome, she knows the Puerto Rican so well and is so vibrant with her stories. Rafael (the bus driver) was hilarious and got us where we needed to be safely and quickly. If you do all the parts of the tour, u get rougly 4 hiurs at the beach before the night jayak so take advantage, Luquillo is breath taking. Work on ur arm muscles for the kayak part, but the bioluminescence was truly majical. Puerto Rico i will be back!!!
Rafael was an excellent tour guide, he was knowledgeable and great sense of humor. The rainforest part was beautiful, the water hole was our favorite. So tranquil and relaxing. We got to enjoy the Luqullio beach after eating some yummy food at the Luquillo kiosks. Bioluminescent Bay tour was great, our kayaking guide Emily was so nice and knowledgeable as well. The bay itself was beautiful but we didn’t get to see much of the bioluminescent part of it became the moon was too bright. She gave us a tent to put over ourselves which did help and we saw some but not much. Other than that it was an overall great day with so many great memories made. Would definitely go back and do it again!
It was a great time! Tour guides were so friendly and we were able to spend some time at the beach. Everything was as described and was extremely fun.
The day was great, Ingrid was our tour guide for the forest and we absolutely loved her! Me and my friend made a great relationship with her and that made it very memorable. The kayak was beautiful and the guides were awesome. One of them was super cute, too
The tour guides were all fantastic. Friendly, informative, helpful, and fun. It was a fun day and I'm so glad we got to see a bit more of Puerto Rico without having to worry about a car rental and planning out destinations ourselves. This tour isn't "high adventure" or a deep dive, it's good for someone who wants the highlights. Most of the time in El Yunque is spent being driven through the park so you get to see quite a bit of the park but don't get to go deep, just a short walk and some sightseeing stops. Ingrid shared a lot of information about the local flora. Luquillo Beach is large and has MANY food and drink kiosks for both take-out and sit-down dining. Be forewarned there are no public restrooms on the beach and the restaurant restrooms are only available to their customers. There are vendors on the beach renting umbrellas, chairs, and jet skis. The bioluminescence at Laguna Grande is underwhelming, sort of like a splash of glitter in the water, but we still really enjoyed it. This was our first time night kayaking and Emily and the other 4 guides made it a great experience. Throughout the day everything ran on time, communication was great, and everyone was focused on creating a good experience for the customer. It was a good tour.
Tour company picked us up and dropped us off close to our hotel. They call to confirm the day before and 5 min before pickup. Rainforest was ok, we only saw some geckos, nice views and waterfall. It was ok to say you saw it. The kayak was fun and different going out at night but biolumenscence isn't what we expected, it was a few algae that you could see when you swirled your hand in the water. Maybe just do the bay in condado to have fun kayaking at night. The beach was terrible-maybe one of the dirtiest places I have ever been, I am not sure why this is on the tour. There are no bathrooms or places to change. The amount of trash all over is really disgusting.
We had a great time. The rain forest was beautiful and our guide was very informative. Food at the beach took a long time but was delicious and worth the wait. The bioluminescence kayaking in the evening is a must do experience. First time kayaking for me and a few others. The guides were patient, informative and fun.
