I've been fortunate to travel a lot for work & pleasure across Central America, US, Europe, and Africa, and prefer to take ecotours when I can to learn about local environments, flora & fauna. The tour provided by Naturhabitat - of the Charco Azul, Poza de las Mujeras, and Playa Golondrinas areas - is one of the most memorable & enjoyable ecotours I've taken in my life and was the highlight of my family's trip to Puerto Rico. The tour, led by Cruz and Joseph, had everything our blended group of adults & teenage boys wanted in adventure, excitement, challenge, and learning. We hiked rocky inclines & forest trails, jumped off moderate cliffs into refreshing river pools, traversed boulders to find waterfalls, and journeyed thru mangrove marshes to be on isolated beaches far from access roads. All of us felt excitement at various moments in the tour! For myself, a highlight was swimming in a river cave in the Charco Azul area while bats were flying above me. Furthermore, the hospitality provided by Cruz & the Naturhabitat team was top-notch! It allowed all of us to simply focus on our new experiences as 1st time travelers to PR. I can't thank Naturhabitat enough for the care and attention to details they provided. It has set a core memory our family will remember for years to come.

It was amazing and the guide was excellent as well. Highly recommended and everyone should try it!!
What a great experience! All I can and did say was wow, view was that unreal. Definitely not an easy adventure but 100% worth it. Janairi was great! I had the pleasure to be one on one and it was like I was hanging out with a friend. Highly recommend!
Albert was a wonderful guide! He picked us up from our hotel and on the ride he was able to point out different landmarks in the area. We had so much fun exploring the caves with him! He took lots of pictures and was super knowledgeable. He pointed out things to us that we would have otherwise missed like ancient stone engravings and shell fossils. We jumped off ledges and saw bats upside-down. The nature was so lush and green and the Albert really made the experience for us. Would highly recommend hiring him to give you a tour.
Cueva azul had to be cancelled due to flooding and rain. We were offered the night time bat cave experience. It was amazing. Alberto is a passionate and enthusiastic guide. Will be coming back for Cueva Azul
We had an idea of what we were in store for, but we knew the minute Albert picked us up it was going to be a great day. He was one of the most knowledgeable people I’ve ever met. You could tell he loved his job and loved sharing his knowledge. He went above and beyond to make everyone happy and have fun. There were multiple things he did with us that he didn’t necessarily have to do, but wanted everyone comfortable. If I’m back in Puerto Rico and go to Arenales/Charco Azul again, I would 100000% want Albert showing me around.
Fantastic experience! Rafa (Rafael) was an excellent tour guide. He is very knowledgeable and friendly. He was attentive to everyone in our group from the 8 year old to the 65 year old. This is the best way to explore Cueva Arenales and Charco Azul. We would have missed out on so much had we not gone with Rafa (and Naturhabitat). He knows the area very well. This is a must see excursion of Puerto Rico. We have been in caves before, and these were the most impressive.
I highly recommend this opportunity to explore a stunningly beautiful remote area with Naturhabitat. Albert was our local expert and guide, and he made our day so special by paying attention to our needs and interests. The caves and cavern were about a 40 minute drive from San Juan and he provided all the transportation with hotel pick up and drop off, making it very convenient. The views were breathtaking and we learned a lot about local plants and creatures. I have been caving in the past, but never like this! Albert showed us petroglyphs, biological items of interest, and told us stories about the area. He also provided all of the equipment needed, including knee pads. Those came in very handy (and are something that I would not have thought to bring) because there was a lot of walking and climbing on slippery ground and rocks. Small personal touches like Limber treats, a well-timed snack, and a coffee stop made us feel like family (and royalty!) We picked a spot for lunch and ended the tour at a gorgeous beach to soak in some final vistas and fresh air. Naturhabitat is a top-notch organization that cares about conservation and education. Albert's kindness and expertise cultivated memories that are unforgettable!
Albert was the best, and so was this tour! He will call you familia andctreat you like familia. This tour is amazing, you get to hike, float, and swim through several different cave areas. Albert is very knowledgeable about the caves, has been visiting charco azul since he was 17 years old, and he is passionate about the flora, fauna, and environment. He can tell you about the bats, the lizards, the leaves, even millipedes, you name it. He will care for you and bring you water and a small snack which is good because he will also wear you out! Some parts of navigating the rivers and caves are a bit arduous but also you know that means it is an exceptional once in a lifetime experience that not everyone gets to experience. He will take you to a delicious place to eat, show you a lovely beach, and you will end up with adventure memories snoozing onnthe ride back because you had a full day of adventure. The timbers (like italian ice but homemade) at the departure point are not to be missed. Super refreshing after the hiking and swimming. He will take photos of/for you and send them to you. We even saw a petroglyph or two. Cannot recommend these beautiful sites or Albert as a guide enough. He really went above and beyond. If you can handle some moderate hiking and climbing do not hesitate to book this! And if you have ANY questions just reach out, he would be happy to answer and accommodate you. Thank you so much Albert, it really was a highlight of our trip!
Every informative. Loved our guide she rocks!! Made the experience safe and fun I would do it again and this time I will jump that cliff
Albert was an amazing guide for my wife and I in the various caves and canyon throughout Vega Baja! He is extremely knowledgeable about the flora/fauna and history of the area - all of which he personalized and shared with us from start to finish of our trip with him. He also went out of his way to make sure we had water, snacks, and took tons of photos/videos for my wife and I throughout our exploration journey. Albert is super sweet and would highly recommend this as a must-do experience while in Puerto Rico!
If you want an excellent guide who cares about nature, Rafa is your person! He pointed out flora and fauna, shared local stories, and made sure we all had a great time.
This was an amazing tour! Rafa, our tour guide, is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and you can see how much he loves what he does. We swam through the caves and the canyon, climbed some rocks, and learned about the endemic species of plants and animals. Rafa took pictures of everything to share with us later. We had a great time and will definitely do more tours with NaturHabitate in the future.
Went with a group of 5 and we ended up on a tour with just us! The caves were so great to explore and our guide Enrique was amazing. One of us was a bit nervous with the jumps and he helped her through it. There's a part of the caves with bats which was also cool to explore. I've never done an experience like this before and I'd definitely do it again with this company!
We had an incredible tour through the caves and canyons. Our guides, Rafa and Albert, were extremely knowledgeable and made us feel safe and confident the entire time. Albert was especially attentive and always available to answer questions, and both guides were very friendly, positive, and encouraging throughout the experience. The trip was truly unforgettable. The views were absolutely stunning. The explanations were clear and informative, and we had plenty of time to enjoy each spot without feeling rushed. The only downside is that you can’t take personal photos unless you bring a waterproof phone or camera. I highly recommend bringing one if you enjoy capturing high quality photos of the scenery. Also, be prepared to be physically active and comfortable with dark spaces and cold water. Overall, an amazing experience that I would absolutely recommend!
This was such a fun trip! I was recommended by a local friend and can say I felt safe at the same time for to explore deep into caves, jumped off cliffs, and saw so much fun natural wildlife! I'll definitely be coming back and choosing another adventure in the future!
My partner and I took this tour at the beginning of October. It truly was one of the more enjoyable and unique experiences I’ve ever had. Joseph was an incredible guide. He educated us on the local flora and fauna, as well as the history of the island. If you are looking for a more mindful way to explore Puerto Rico, this is the tour to take. We will be using this company next time we get to visit!
Albert was the best! He was able to pick us up directly to our hotel, which was amazing. He was clear, organized, and had great communication with us right from booking. He was SO knowledgeable about everything, from plants to animals to Puerto Rican history. The caves were incredible! We jumped off a cliff to get to the cave, which made it more of an adventure. Swimming through a cave is something that everyone should check off their bucket list. We then went out to a local restaurant for delicious chicken and beef stew with rice. Albert took us to a beach afterwards that was off the beaten trail and absolutely stunning.
We had a fantastic time with Albert! I chose this tour based off of the praises other reviewers posted. Would highly recommended! Such a kind and knowledgable guide. He was always looking and listening in the nature which really helped us be more attuned to the environment. Also an amazing delish lunch place! Take this tour, you won’t regret it!
This place was very interesting. I would highly recommend it. Our tour guide was very professional and also taught us a lot about the plants, animals and history of the area. There are a lot of rocks to jump off of if you choose to do so .
One of the best tours in Puerto Rico! Albert with NaturHabitat Ecotours has years of experience and knowledge to offer throughout the entire tour. We first stopped at Cuevas Arenas and Charco Azul where we were given all the safety gear which made us feel very prepared. On the walk to each of the caves, Albert would teach us about the different plants and animals we would see or hear. He would explain how to get over the rocks which I really appreciated as I was traveling with my parents and my mom has a bad knee, but she was able to do everything with Albert’s instructions. Swimming through the caves was amazing. Pictures don’t do it justice. Definitely a must see! We stopped at a delicious local place for lunch then headed to the beach. The adventure continued at the beach as we climbed on the rocks and walked through a small forest to get to the Cueva de las Golondrinas. The waves crashing and the view was beautiful. It was a great way to end the trip. 100% recommend this tour especially with Albert.
This tour was amazing. The area we got to see with our tour guild was great. The Tour guild was very knowledgably about the area, the wildlife and the history of the area. If you can afford to do this it is well worth the money and if I had to go to those areas I would do it the same way. I have nothing but good things to say about this.
This was such an amazing experience! Amazing nature, really quite an adventer! Albert was everything you could hope for from a tour guide. Everyone in our family highly recommend this tour. It was the highlight of our trip.
Alberto was the perfect guide. He is knowledgeable about local flora and fauna. He added just enough of that to the tour and I really enjoyed it. As for the caves, it was AMAZING! The whole experience exceeded my expectations and was one of the most wonderful things I’ve ever experienced. It was a little outside my comfort zone, but Alberto was so kind and considerate and safety conscience that I felt completely comfortable. The Crystal Clear Water Beach was wonderful. Many beaches have the sand churning up and it’s unpleasant to wade or swim in. This one was clean with very little garbage like many on the island and the water really was clear. I played for hours! I highly recommend this tour with this tour guide. It a must do on your vacation to Puerto Rico.
We were in San Juan for a few days after our cruise and booked this tour based on a local friend’s recommendation. There are several reasons you should book this tour as well. First, communication! Albert is quick to respond to my questions and concerns. Second, flexibility! Albert was able to make a slight adjustment to our pick up time and to pick us up outside his normal area. It wasn’t too far out of his way, though, and it’s not like he can list every hotel in San Juan for pick up. But that goes back to communication… ask and he’ll respond within a day. Third, safety! Albert outfitted us with knee pads, life jackets, helmets and headlamps. The other tour guides had only life jackets for their groups. When climbing over the rocks at the waterfalls, Albert was very clear about where to place your feet and hands. He even gave different route possibilities based on our level of fitness and comfort. Fourth, knowledge! Albert has been doing this tour for about 10 years but he’s been coming to these caves since he was a boy. He knows all the flora and fauna and goes slowly to point out everything of interest. He even stops to listen to the birds and frogs. In addition to the current nature of the area, he’s also highly knowledgeable in the Puerto Rican and Taino culture. Now, you will get completely soaked. We used waterproof cases with lanyards for our phones and left everything else in the truck. Really sturdy water shoes might be okay but solid lace up tennis shoes that you don’t mind getting wet are a better choice. We brought shoes that we were planning to throw away so we didn’t worry about wet shoes in our luggage. After 3 to 3 1/2 hours on the cave and river part of our tour, we used the facilities to change into dry clothes and drove to lunch. Yum! Bar B Que! After lunch we drove to the second part of our tour (the beach and coastal forest walk) but our tour was on Presidents Day and EVERYBODY in San Juan was at the beach. We couldn’t find a parking spot at the planned beach. So, flexibility! We asked Albert to take us to a different, less crowded beach. [Note: Try to plan this excursion during the week and NOT on a National Holiday!] Going to a different beach worked out really well because there was another shallow DRY cave with bats and petroglyphs left by the Taino people. He knew where to find them all and what they signified. We had the option to stay at the beach for 30 minutes or longer but we are not beachy people and it was HOT in the sun even in Mid February. We left our hotel at 7:30 and Albert dropped us off at 4:15 as we had requested. If you don’t have time for a whole day excursion, you could ask for just the cave tour and be done in 4 or 5 hours.

For those who love outdoors and a bit of experiential travel, this is in the category of top 3 things to do in Puerto Rico. Albert is an exceptional guide who brings everything you need...life jackets, helmet, headlamp, water, a snack, bug spray, even knee pads (remarkably helpful). You just need to bring water shoes. The entire experience is about 3.5 hours from the time you get there (so more if you are driving in). I appreciated that given different water levels, he personally checks safety at that moment before having the group go. Many years ago, Albert became the first person guiding this trip and it shows. He makes you very comfortable and is constantly teaching...about plants and their purposes, birds you see or hear, bats, cave formations, etc. You do have to be in ok shape--there is some steep downhill and uphill including light climbing. To enter the highlight of the trip (going through the cave), you have to take either a very narrow trail around a water hole or jump about 15 feet down into the water hole. I recommend jumping...it's totally safe and the hardest part is just making the jump. The caves are beautiful and magical. Our top activity was swimming in the biolumenscence in La Parguera. Charco Azul and Arenales was our second favorite activity during our week in Puerto Rico.
GO! You will not be disappointed!! It’s beyond fabulous! The tour guide is amazing; teaching you how the caves formed and taking you from one cave to another and seeing the fascinating formations inside! You do not want to miss this!! It’s super safe with helmets and life vests and he’s beyond patient. Have a blast!!
If you want to explore and have an amazing adventure this is it , from the hike , the amazing water and the caves its what i wanted to experience with my wife , then the amazing beaches, plus the detail explanation from our guide made our trip a wonderful experience of beautiful puerto rico .. Thank you
This tour is beautiful. It ins’t just the beauty of the places but the knowledge, professionalism and passion of our tour guide; Albert. He and the wonders of nature made our day the best gift for my children and I for new years. This was one of the tours that you’ll keep in your heart.
Very good adventure with an excellent guide. Without a doubt the best time we had in Puerto Rico. A must to do.
This was my second time in PR, I was looking for a less crowded location known mostly by locals. I found this tour in the back of the pages and decided to give it a try despite of having only 1 review, turned out to be the best day trip ever. The pick up vehicles are all incredibly clean, the tour guides were very experienced and detail oriented. They were actually trying to show us as much as possible, they went an extra mile to make sure we were all safe and had a good time. They also had back up plans according to weather changes. The tour itself goes to the other side of PR, lesser known, we barely ran into people on the tour. The location was a hidden gem, however was physically challenging. Our group had 2 young children, the guides made sure the kids had just as much fun, and kept everybody safe. Now the view.. waterfalls, rivers, caves, all amazing. The beach location was hidden too, we had to take a secret path to a complete empty beach, where the view looked like a beautiful painting. Definitely wear water sneakers and bring a change of clothing, the tour guides don't try to sell you anything, no hidden fees, they didn't even ask for tips but we gave them one because it was so well deserved. Their focus was our safety and experience, this is an adventure you don't want to miss. - from a NYC couple.
We had amazing time exploring Charco Azul! Our tour guide (Albert) was fantastic – knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive to every detail, making sure everyone in our family felt safe and engaged. The caves themselves were stunning, and we loved learning about the unique geology and history of the area. Albert's passion for the natural beauty and local culture truly made the experience unforgettable. We left with wonderful memories and some fantastic photos. Highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for an adventure that combines natural beauty with great storytelling.
