Jose was an exceptional tour guide! I learned so much about the island’s history, people, and nature. It was evident he was very passionate about everything he taught us, and I walked away with a much better understanding of everything I experienced. He helped us safely spot wildlife, including a little Coquí frog! The views were incredible and it was an easy hike to the top. There was also an option to buy food from a local family, and I heard it was delicious. I highly recommend this tour 🐸

Jose was well informed about El Yunque National Rainforest and very friendly to top it off. Looking at Mt. Britton Lookout Tower from below might feel daunting; a step at time will get you to the top of it. Great experience. Would recommend
this trip is not a causal walk. you should wear sturdy shoes for walking up hill about a mile. our guide Luis was excellent, pointing out local flowers, insects and history. Winding roads up to the hiking spot, beautiful waterfalls and a last stop for. a dip in the river. bring water and money for a mid trip snack.
My guide José Enrique was AMAZING! Everything went really smoothly and the experience was one of a kind. The hike was medium difficultly which is exactly what I wanted. Lots of time to ask questions. I felt a little rushed at the river, but I understand the yunque hike was the main experience.
Can’t say enough about our tour guide, Diana Garcia, and the tour she led us on. We have a 6 and 8 year old and this was the perfect tour, especially for first timers. Be sure to ask for Diana if you book!
Great experience and Luis was an excellent guide. That said, for an 8-hour day, we wished more time was spent on the trails—an extra hiking segment would’ve made it feel complete. The lunch stop wasn’t worth the time, calories, or money. Would still recommend, but just expect a relaxed pace.
We had a wonderful tour guide, Juan. He was a skillful driver of the van, gave us so much information about the history of San Juan and the rain forrest plus you could just tell that he was enjoying being our tour guide. I would recommend the tour.
Really nice and easy hike through El Younque rainforest. We were picked up at a hotel in San Juan then driven to the rainforest where we walked on a paved trail to the lookout tower where we were able to take in 360 views of the rainforest and see islands in the distance. It was a fairly easy walk, although steep, but our guide stopped frequently for our group. Afterwards we stopped at a gorgeous waterfall and swimming spot in the river.
Our trek through the rainforest was a wonderful experience. Jose is a very helpful and knowledgeable guide, very personable and very familiar with local flora and fauna. Conditions on the hike were made very manageable by permanent pathways, accessible to people of all ages and abilities.
Salomon was an excellent guide and she pointed out flora and faune--she had a good eye for animals on leaves! Hike was nice and the view from the tower was spectacular!
Our guide, Jose Henrique, was great. He gave us a solid background on the people and geology of PR. On the trail, he stopped to point out many interesting plants, snails, insects, and birds. Mt Briiton is a steep climb but the trail is semi paved, and you can take breaks. Our 2nd stop was as a swimming hole in a river with a rope swing. If you are not into hiking or swimming, or getting caught in the rain in a rainforest, this trip is not for you. But if you like adventure and you are in reasonable physical shape, do it! You will have a great time!
We had a great experience. From the drive and seeing the countryside to the actual hike, our guide kept us informed and she was helpful.
Amazing trip, views and hike!!! Shalomir was a great guide with lots of information. The views from Mt Britton look out tower did not disappoint, the lunch stop had delicious food and cooling off in the river was the perfect way to end the day. Highly recommend!!!!!
There are so many different rainforest tours being offered, its hard to choose. We are so glad we picked this one. We are early 60s, normal shape. Some of the other tour descriptions sounded a bit too difficult. If that is your concern, this is the hiking experience for you. It is a perfect hike through the rainforest. The path is perfect with a narrow sidewalk all the way up. Not a muddy, slippery mess like some of the other paths. We covered a long distance but at a relaxed pace. The views from the top are fantastic. Our guide, Diana, was funny and very knowledgable about everything we saw. You will learn about the island and the rainforest. I was interested in a swim, my wife was not. Many of the other tours focus on jumping or sliding or cave swimming, if that is important to you, maybe pick a different tour, because the swim is not the main event here. If you want a complete rainforest hike at a relaxed pace and stunning views with a refreshing swim at the end, this is the one for you. The transport was clean and modern. The lunch stop was good. When we finished, I knew we made the right choice. Also, they pick up from more hotels than are listed on the Viator site. Just contact them. We were at the Sheraton, which is not listed as an option, but they do pick up from here.
The tour to El Yunque Rainforest was incredible with Diana as the tour guide who was very informative and knowledgable. It was my first time in a rainforest and it couldn't been better. My 2025 trip to Puerto Rico was AMAZING and would do it all over again.
We booked this tour through our resort, and were very happy with how convenient the experience was. We were picked up directly from our hotel, and our guide Diana gave us an overview of PR history and geography in the 45 min drive to El Yunque. While some of the planned trails were inaccessible due to the impacts of hurricane Erin the weekend before our tour, Diana did an amazing job adapting the route and made sure we had a great time. She was also so talented at spotting plenty of wildlife! We ended the tour with swimming and had a quiet ride back to the city. 10/10 would recommend!
Luis is the best! An immersive excursion into the rain forest, pointing out to many animals hiding in plain. He was extremely knowledgeable and patient and certainly never a dull moment . It makes you appreciate the El Yunque to a much more profound level. 6/5 stars.
Diana was amazing and very informative with the native wildlife around the island and the rainforest she made sure we had our rest breaks and went over what we were going to endure very fun and well worth the time and money loved every minute of it and very breathtaking lol
We had Luis and he was great. He really knew the biodiversity of the forest and took his time on the hike to share a variety of bugs, snails, and unique plants. Definitely a good tour if you want to have a better understanding of the rainforest.
Luis was a fantastic and engaging tour guide. You can clearly tell he lives this island. He wanted to tell us all about the many critters in the island rainforest and took his time to explain things.
Earlier in the morning, Luis texted us about the pick-up, which was so helpful. Then we started our tour. He ensured everyone in the group was okay during our hike, taking us to a place where we would pick different foods. He explained a lot of important things about Puerto Rico, plus helping us with pictures was a plus. Thank you so much for a wonderful Day Luis.
We really enjoyed this excursion. We went with our 4 and 7 year old and this one was perfect for them. It started with a ride in a van from our hotel to El Yunque. Then, we did a hike through the rainforest (about 45 minutes loop). We got to see a river, but could not do any swimming (which I hear the water is cold anyway). Then, we drove to a beautiful lookout point. Then, we stopped at some food huts on the way back for some local treats (about 30 minutes). The tour guide was very knowledgeable and great at pointing out wildlife we may have missed, but he was a bit preachy which rubbed me the wrong way. Overall, great experience though.
So glad that we took the recommendation of our hotel concierge and booked the El Yunque Rainforest HikingTour with Puerto Rico Tour Desk. Our guide, Luis, was exceptional! From the basics, such as transportation and logistical communications, to the rainforest hike itself, Luis exceeded expectations. The hike was moderately intense, but we went at a comfortable, leisurely pace that allowed us to really experience and appreciate the biodiversity of the rainforest. Luis introduced us to birds, flowers, snails, lizards, and much more. I wouldn’t hesitate to book another tour with this company, and I’d definitely ask for Luis to be my guide. Great experience!
Great experience. Exploring the rainforest was on my wife’s bucket list, and it did not disappoint. Luis our guide was a skilled communicator and leader. We were confident all was happening as it was supposed to, starting with an early text from Luis. We all stayed together and on time. Luis gave good information about the physicality of the event and let us each enjoy the experience as we were able. Learned a lot and enjoyed our tour guide’s knowledge, good eye for detail, and well considered ideas about nature and our interactions with it. Highly recommended.
So glad my daughter and I chose the Rainforest Hike on Mt. Britton trail over other options for El Junque Rainforest. Our guide, Luis, was excellent. The view from the tower at the top was outstanding. We saw lots of lizards, geckos, snails and the amazing rainforest plants. PIckup and drop off was super easy. Would definitely do this again on a return trip.
We toured El Yunque with a great tour guide named Luis. He took our group of anbou 10 people into the best scenery with a nice hike toward the top of a mountain where the views were stunning. Luis explained the wildlife and plants along the way. Afterwards, we ate lunch at one of the local shops near the park area. Definitely a worthwhile trip
Beautiful trip. Luis is a fantastic guide with a wealth of information. Gorgeous beach stop too. So serene!!!! We saw waterfall and the river and also stopped for lunch on way down!!! Perfect day!
Luis was great! thank you! I had a great experience. I am not a hiker, and I would probably never do the trip again, but he made it a great trip.
I was excited for this tour since it's a popular attraction. I wanted a tour that focused mostly on hiking and ended up choosing this one. Shalomir, the guide, was friendly and knowledgeable. The meeting time was at 8 am and she called me 10 minutes before to see if I was en route. I understand she has other pickups to make but I wasn't late. The ride to El Yunque took less than an hour, not including pick ups for other passengers, but the ride itself to the parking lot took another 10-15 minutes of twisty turns that might make you car sick. It was still relatively early with few people and the 1 mile hike to the Mt. Britton Lookout Tower was enjoyable, not strenuous with Shalomir pointing out the natural wonders of the forest including birds, walking sticks, and lizards. Without her, I never would have noticed them! The view from the tower was pretty cool and cramped with more and more visitors arriving. The walk back went by much faster.By that time it was almost 12 and the lot was full of cars. Get there early! We stopped at a family-owned food kiosk for lunch. It was okay; the rice and beans was great, but the fried chicken was dry and the pina colada tasted watered down. On the way back to Old San Juan, Shalomir stopped by a river so we could take a quick dip or relax without getting wet, whichever you like.
Luis was the best tour guide! He was very knowledgeable about the rainforest and all of Puerto Rico and he shared it with us. It was a great experience.
Luis is a knowledgeable, interesting, and amazing tour guide. We appreciated the details of history he provided along with expertise of plants, biology, and ecosystems. He is a true ambassador for the rainforest.
This tour was great! Luis was a great guide. He knows so much! About biology, history, culture! The hike itself was just what I wanted. I was afraid it would be too easy but it was just right, not too easy and not too much. It’s definitely steeper than I expected but the payoff is worth it. Luis found micro orchids and stick bugs and snails for us that I never would’ve noticed! And he really took care of me to make sure I got a vegan meal. I got the red beans and yellow rice and it was really good. The river stop was just the relaxation I needed after the hike though I wish I’d brought sandals for the Rocky water.
We enjoyed our El Yunque Rain Forest experience with Luis. Luis was very knowledgeable about unique species in the rain forest and pointed out flora and fauna that we wouldn't have noticed otherwise. The experience was a combination of riding in a van and walking with rest stops as needed. We also stopped for lunch, which was good also. This tour is probably not for very serious hikers who are doing it for the challenge. We are a couple in our early 60s, in average physical condition for our age, and it was perfect for us. Don't be nervous about doing this if you are a first timer. Luis answered the questions we had about what to bring and what to expect. We were glad we had rain ponchos: it is a rain forest, after all. We do recommend this experience and Luis.
The hike was good to the observation tower. Food stop was kabobs in plastic tubs not very hygienic, they used the same paint brush to add sauce to all types chicken pork and shrimp. Disorganized & took forever, wasted valuable time could have visited a natural pool. We stopped at a river area that had very little water and slippery large rocks.
Luis was fun and informative!! Great day and definitely worth the trip. The hike was easy due to paved trails and shade throughout.
If you are looking for a true hiking experience this isn’t it. Hiking portion of 6-7 hour trip is approximately 45 minutes of uphill/downhill to a tower structure. The rest is driving through heavily congested areas to see a waterfall and river on the side of the road. Lunch stop was interesting, and locally operated but priced for tourists. Guide was good. Hotel pickup definitely a plus if you just want the “rainforest experience “
Luis was extremely knowledgeable, informative and charming. His commentary really enhanced our understanding and enjoyment of our visit to PR. Highly Recommend.
Our guide Diana was great! Knowledgeable kind and funny. We would definitely recommend Puerto Rico tour desk and her as your guide!
Our guide Luis was excellent . I learned so much about the rainforest and Puerto Rico. I feel like Luis represents the heart of Puerto Rico while also cares about preserving the eco systems that make Puerto Rico such a wonderful place. He’s super kind and full of knowledge!
Great tour with a lot of good information. Our guide was communicative, prompt, and organized. She accommodated all of the participants in the group and was pleasant/ helpful. El Yunque speaks for itself and this tour was a great way to explore it.
We had a wonderful time on this tour of the rainforest yesterday. We weren’t interested in sliding down rocks and jumping in the river. It was difficult to find a tour to suit us. Luis delivered the experience we were looking for. He is passionate for Puerto Rico and very knowledgeable. He pointed out snails, lizards and a walking stick. We learned about the many types of frogs and calls. He was concerned about everyone’s safety. We would highly recommend this tour and Luis.
Our tour guide was knowledgeable and kind. The rainforest was beautiful and the kiosk food was delicious. The shuttle service was also a game changer!
We requested and got a custom tour of the rainforest, thanks to Frankie keeping in touch with us when the rainforest closed a few days due to landslides. We met our amazing guide Luis in Luquillo, and he drove us to the rainforest. Luis taught us so much about the rainforest, the history of the island, and plants unique to the area. Along the way, we also learned about the Spanish spoken in Puerto Rico compared to other parts of the world, as well the culture of Puerto Rico. We even got a condensed education about coffee, based on knowledge Luis gained at a former job! Highly recommend this company, and Luis as a guide!
BOTTOM LINE: This is a great trip, our guide Frankie was super knowledgeable and friendly. Provides great views of the rainforest. I would definitely recommend. SUMMARY: We were picked up in San Juan our guide was very punctual and communicated ahead of time to make sure we were ready. We drove about an hour in the El Yunque rainforest and hiked to Mt Britton- unfortunately the tower was closed for construction but we still got to see lots of great views and wildlife- the hike was about an hour(~1mile up 1mile down) the path is concrete and easily walkable but a little steep. However if you’re not an experienced hiker there are plenty of benches along the way to stop and take a rest. After the hike we drove to another tower with excellent views and then stopped at waterfall for more pictures. From there we went to a river with a rope swing and a great spot for jumping ( there was also a walk in spot). Since we went during the low season we had the river all to ourselves! After the river we went to one of the lunch spots our guide recommended which had a great view of the rainforest while we ate. Then we were driven right back to our hotel. Awesome trip! Frankie was great and super knowledgeable! The views were amazing and we got to see lots of native Puerto Rican wildlife. If you are looking for a more rigorous hiking trip I would recommend booking a full day (this was a half day).
Diana was fantastic. Told us all about the history of Puerto Rico and the rainforest. Had a great personality and always had us laughing.
Luis is the best tour guide. He was so well versed with all the area had to offer and provided insightful tips. It was truly a memorable tour.
Fantastic Tour! Our guide, Diana, was wonderful! She was very knowledgeable and had a friendly, outgoing personality! We had a great time! Would highly recommend!
We wanted to see El Yunque as a family. We're from the New Jersey area and 10 of us took the hike to the river and up the mountain. Luis, our tour guide has a passion about the natural wonder we were living in. He showed us facinating creatures, like snail with the shell on the inside, a plant that closes its leaves lile venus fly trap but just reveals it's thorny stems, blue fern leaves and an amazing river. The trip is fully worth it. I dare you to take as much interest in your ecosystem as Luis does his Rain Forest.
Diana was an amazing tour guide! She was kind, informative, and seemed to genuinely love sharing her amazing culture with us. I’ve been wanting to travel to El Yunque for years and it did not disappoint. Many of the tours I looked at seemed more adventure/ tourist focused with sliding down the rock slide and rope swinging. Personally I was more interested in doing some hiking in the forest, which is why I chose this tour. The rainforest is luscious and beautiful. I enjoyed hiking through it, seeing the mountain views, and seeing a waterfall. Lunch was amazing and Diana was super informative describing each of the typical Puerto Rican foods available at the kiosko. I went solo and Diana was so helpful offering to take pictures at the viewpoints. When the River was closed for swimming due to potential flash flooding, Diana didn’t skip a beat. She had a back up and brought us to a beautiful beach in Piñones where I definitely plan to return to spend more time and before I leave.
We did the tour with Diana and it was amazing! She was a great tour guide who was very knowledgeable and went out of her way to make sure that everyone was comfortable. The rainforest was amazing, and the place you stop at for lunch is delicious also!
