Fantastic experience. 3 miles was a challenge for this elderly couple but definitely worth the blisters and aches.

This was awful. Noone told us it needed to be a dark night! It was a full moon no lummens! I booked this for us and everyone was disappointed! I feel like we should have recieved some money back!!
I went solo and Manolo was absolutely amazing, keeping things light and fun, even when shrimp somehow ended up in my kayak 😂
Had a great time! The booking and coordination was very easy, then once we got there everyone was really friendly and we had a lot of fun laughing and joking around. The luminescence wasn’t that strong, but it was still very cool to see and we both enjoyed kayaking through the mangroves
Tour should have been canceled. Lightning, thunder, rain was so bad at times we could not see where we were going. They were not honest about not being able to see the bioluminescence because of the weather and seaweed. They kept saying that it will be fine. Once we reached destination, it had stopped raining for a minute they had us get under a tarp (to block out the light) so that we can see anything. We have been to bioluminescent bay before and this was definitely not normal. Once we got back to the transport van I felt relived because we felt like we just went through an episode of survivor. I do not recommend this company. Your safety is not priority. The tour should have been canceled once the lightning started.
The guides were super funny and awesome! I booked a trip that starts at 6pm and I thought it was at the kayak place but it was pick up. The tour was then changed to 6:50 with no explanation. We were not back to the hotel until 1AM, which is very late for for kids. They should have stayed that ppl need to know kayak before going, the beginning was chaotic because a few people doesn't know how to kayak.
It was a great excursion. If you are into kayaking, outdoor activity, and adventure, it is very fun. Note, it's much more of an active kayak adventure than it is a glow in the dark adventure. There are definitely some situations with incoming traffic and crowding, but if you are open minded and prepared, you should enjoy it.
Fabulous experience. Kayaking in the dark under the moonlight as your only guide was exhilarating. There are some curves, but the river is not that bad, and it is only waist high all in all not too difficult to navigate. We didn't get to see many bioluminescent fish right of the bat the guide had to provide a tarp to create a little more darkness for us to be able to see the species. It was fun and a first experience for us. Will do it again. Lots of mosquitos though, they attack even when wearing repellent!!!
We kayaked out to a lake in the evening and experienced the bio fluorescent in the water. We enjoyed the exercise and kayaking in the dark
Booked the tour with pick up from San Juan. The pickup was on time, comfortable drive to get to the venue. 1-1.5 mile kayaking in dark to get to the spot was interesting, well managed. The kayaking back was also fun. The tour operator did everything right as advertised and provide the best experience. The bioluminescence experience was below par. The operator mentioned the current levels are at 20% or so. It's natural phenomenon, not much the tour operator could do. Advertising better times to visit could help. We enjoyed kayaking more than the bioluminescence.
That you’ll be wading in waist deep water to get on the kayak. Not recommended for little kids. Also that even if you go during a new moon as we did, there’s so much ambient light that you have to go under the tarp to see the bioluminescence. All in all a lot of paddling for not much to see. But the driver of our van was great and we felt that our stuff was safe in the van during the kayaking.
The most fun part was kayaking at night through the lagoon. We loved it! The guides were good. Make sure to wear water shoes as you have to walk out to the kayaks.
The experience was phenomenal- the team were well organized ! ( port a potties needed)
Wear water shoes - try to go when it’s a sunny day & low moon light! But if not it’s a great experience either way! Great people !
The actual experience of the bioluminescence was cool. We weren’t prepared for the long van ride with no real explanation of where we were going or what it was about. A little explanation on the van ride would have been helpful. There were 19 tandem kayaks in our group and only about 6 of them really knew how to kayak, making the kayaking less than ideal. We were picked up at 5:45 and got back at 11:45, longer than we expected. Communication could have been better.
First time kayakers BEWARE this is not geared for inexperienced paddlers- darkness limits vision snd there are many low tree branches to avoid to not get hit in face
The guides were excellent and patient with us with regard to our kayaking skills. Well worth the price. The commute was longer than we anticipated.
Our group went on the Bioluminescent Bay Kayak Adventure, and while we didn’t get to see the super vivid bioluminescence due to all the rain and weather, kayaking at night was such a cool and unique experience! The water was warm, the location was dark (obviously), and it was amazing to try something none of us had done before. The guides were fantastic — patient, helpful, and attentive, especially with my friends who weren’t confident kayakers. They even provided a tarp so we could huddle comfortably and see the bioluminescent glow better. Snacks and water were provided at the end, which was a nice touch. Transportation to and from the site was smooth, though our tour van had a small issue that caused a 30–45 minute delay. It wasn’t a big deal since we still enjoyed ourselves. If we did it again, we might Uber there and back for more flexibility. Overall, the crew was friendly, prepared, and helpful, and the experience of night kayaking in this magical location made it worthwhile — even without the full bioluminescent effect(:
Worst waste of money. There was barely any bio illumination whatsoever. No glass bottom boat. You can only swim 15 minutes. The guide ( Justin) didn’t let you take pictures at all and was a real peach if you know what I mean. Total waste of money . I had a rental so I drove directly and at $194 for 3 people, it was “still” not worth it and a waste of money . No water glowed in the dark or lit up , excuse or reason given, the moon is too bright . The date was 1/27/26 . It wasn’t even 1/2 a moon. ( that is a complete misuse of Advertising saying that it’s 9 hours!! They don’t even let you swim in the ocean but 15-20 min)
Very unusual experience! In spite of not being able to see at night and kayaking through narrow water lanes and bumping into many mangroves and getting whacked a few times with another kayaker’s paddle, it was somewhat entertaining and cool. Enjoyed seeing the star-filled skies and the bioluminescent waters. The tour guides were very friendly and helped as much as they could. Would like to go during the day!
Pics posted online were completely deceiving we were paddling into trees in complete darkness them when in area where bioluminescence was it was so minimal I would NOT recommend or do again
Unreliable; forced us to reschedule with 24 hours notice (claiming to have “reached out to another number” a few days prior) and provided zero goodwill when a member of our party was ill at the rescheduled time. We only worked with them to start with because of Sunday availability (that was then cancelled).
Lovely experience! The kayaking at night was great and the team did a fabulous job going over instructions, keeping us safe and having fun!
I’m not great at water sports, but this was excellent. The night sky was filled with stars and the water was glowing with every touch.
The tour stated it started @ 6:15pm but when the tour operator called the day before I was told our p/u time was 4:30pm!!! That was not disclosed in anything I read about in their post. This put us in a major rush with our arrival time in San Juan and p/u time. With that aside, the van used for transportation to the kayak location needs repair. The suspension leaves ALOT to be desired! Also the driver needed to tell us how long we were going to be in the van so we could go to the restroom before we started the 1.5+ drive! The kayak tour was good. The smell at the bay was very unpleasant!! They seemed a bit unorganized when we arrived but seemed to get going after a bit. Even though we did not see very much of the luminescence the experience was unique and something we would not experience anywhere else. For the price it was ok.
We started our experience off by being picked up on an air conditioned bus. The driver was nice and right on time. It was an hour plus bumpy drive to and from the place where we kayaked from. When we got there we left everything we didn’t want to get wet on the bus. We got a life jacket and an orientation about how to kayak and then we waded out to the kayaks. The kayaking to the bay was really pretty and enjoyable. We got to the bay in time to see a beautiful sunset. The bioluminescence was there if you completely covered the kayak with a tarp and then moved your hand thru the water but it was a bit disappointing. Definitely not the tours fault - They said the Sargassum is killing the aquatic life that causes the bioluminescence. This would have been nice to know before we went. The kayaking back to our starting point was a challenge in the dark, but overall a fun experience. Also just FYI- there was a little store there to buy snacks, get a clear plastic phone holder lanyard before you go to keep your phone safe, bring your own toilet paper, and be warned the store front area for the kayak company has a sulfur smell.
Incredible adventure! We paddled through a maze of trees—some hosting termite colonies 🐜—as the evening deepened and moonlight became our only guide. You start the tour paddling downstream on the way back is a little harder because you are rowing against the current. The tour guides are knowledgeable are personable and ready to assist. The depth of the water in the lagoon is only 4-5' and you will be given a safety vest. I didn't find the tour 'dangerous' or 'scary'. The tour guides came up with clever workarounds to help us catch a glimpse of the bioluminescence, despite the brightness of the moon. Beautiful. There is a massive number of mosquitos we used repellent, and we got bitten anyway but the adventure is worth it. As you walk towards the kayaks you will immediately notice the hydrogen sulfide smell is bad right on the shore but as you kayak away the smell stays behind. The reason for the smell is the decaying seaweed. We recommend this tour.
Is the bioluminescence in the room with us?? Lol the bio bay’s luminescence left much to be desired, but the guides, Manolo & EJ (DJ? Sorry if I misspelled your names gentlemen!) were e x c e l l e n t. So professional, kind, patient, and helpful! I went with my 14 yr old daughter, and it was her first time kayaking, and boyyy did we struggle 😅 She isn’t athletically inclined and had a hard time, so EJ was kind enough to be our Uber lol, he hitched us gave us a tow.. Overall, I’ve done it, but it wasn’t much of a spectacle to go again. And to our guides’ credit, they were very honest in voicing the mixture of sargassum (seaweed) and our moon phase (literally almost a full moon 🤦🏽♀️) as adding to the difficulty in clarity of the bioluminescence. Despite that, they came prepared with tarps to help increase visualization, which certainly helped. Transportation picked us up and dropped us off directly at our hotel, and our driver, Jason, was also very kind and made the process seamless. Truly it’s the bio bay’s fault and none of
Really cool experience. Didn’t know what I was getting myself into. Our tour guides made everything fun and comfortable.
Do not go. Read the other 1 star reviews. Not worth the time or money. Good for a laugh but yikes!!!
It’s a neat experience and we’re glad to have shared it with our kids. But we kayaked to the bay 10 years ago and it was much more magical then. Today, it is heavily commercialized. There were many tours going on at the same time, including 2 motorized boats that passed us. Some of the guides lit bright lights, too, and between that and the heavy traffic, it really wasn’t so magical. The guides were energetic, but didn’t take much time to teach newbies how to properly paddle. It felt rushed, but I was glad the guides at least had tarps to help make the bay darker around us to better see the plankton. It’s worth seeing, but definitely expect a long drive to it and a lot of people!
We really enjoyed the experience. The bus driver and the tour guides were friendly and full of energy and enthusiasm. Definitely got my exercise in...it was a great way to do it.
This may be my first 1 star review. I had read reviews prior to booking this but didn’t appreciate the extent of the issues. Biggest concerns were lack of transparency w timeline and safety. We booked a 6:30pm pick up time. I did not realize we would not be in a kayak until 9:30pm and back by 12:40am. The lack of lighting while trying to navigate the narrow channels through mangrove trees and so many other kayakers going in both directions was total chaos. One person in our group got a bloody nose from being hit w someone’s paddle in a narrow space. Many others got scraped/bruised from branches. I’m all for adventure but this was unsafe. A single glowstick fastened to the kayak was used as both a light source and identification of the kayak. Occasionally when the current was crazy and there were massive pile of kayaks stuck in the trees, the guide would turn on a flash light. My 9 year old daughter was so scared of being hit by other kayaks and trees that she sobbed for most of this. This tour was extremely disorganized and poorly described on viator. Of note, none of the other people in our group were happy with this. Lastly, once we got to the area for bioluminescence viewing, we were told that it’s barely existent currently and maybe we could see some sparkles in the water… ughhhh. I definitely wouldn’t bother with this tour. Apparently other sites on the island have much better bioluminescence so try elsewhere.
I am glad I went, but I was not expecting a 5 hour experience. Lack of communication before the outing made me worry that nobody would show up to pick us up. Be prepared to not see any bioluminescence unless you’re under a tarp and be prepared for boats coming down a narrow pathway when you are trying to maneuver a kayak for the first time if you are not familiar with kayaks. You will also be in the pitch black and have no idea if you’re going the right way. If you are an adventurer and you’d like surprises then this is the trip for you.
It’s just a night kayaking but not bioluminescence kayaking. They should mention as night kayaking while reserving tickets.
The bus ride was great and the driver was very friendly. The kayaking itself was easy and the guides were nice. Unfortunately, they did not tell us until we were in the bay that the bioluminescent was not something we would see and they knew this before coming out. I understand it’s a natural phenomenon but if it is known in advance they should at least be transparent with that information so you can cancel beforehand if you wish to. They mentioned there are times of the year where you don’t see it, and those should be times rhey don’t allow bookings or tell people when they book this information.
This was a great experience and our guides were super helpful. We were able to see some biolumines but unfortunately the moon was too bright for the full effect.
This was such an amazing experience. The guides were helpful, funny and very knowledgeable about the area. They made everything so fun. They even made a special trip back to delivery forgotten items! These guys are top notch.
I read *so many reviews* before booking this, so I hope yet another one helps: Bespoke Lifestyle Management: Pickup, booking, and the tour were as-billed, felt safe, on time, with clear communication. The driver was kind. The preparation notes had good information; we had to leave anything we brought on the secured bus during the tour, but that was OK. A dry change of clothes and something a little warmer for the ride home, as advised, were nice to have, because we got wet. I think people had phones on the kayaks in waterproof containers. No snacks on the bus, so eat something first (I didn't expect snacks, but just in case you do!) Tour: I would say be ready not to see bioluminescence, and you'll be happy either way. I was interested in a late-night adventure through the mangrove trees, with frogs and lightning-beetles, and it was great. But if your heart is set on kayaking through a sea of stars, book with care. A small sliver of moon plus low clouds plus a current meant we didn't see much. The guides do offer tarps to help bring out the sparkle, which is fine if you're ready for it. Get under the tarp, wave your hand in the water, see some lovely sparks, done. It helps to know this might be your experience. Most couples on our tour had no problem with the currents, but if you're very afraid of water, have never been in a kayak, or you or your partner/spouse/friend turns into a monster under minor pressure, practice beforehand, be nice, and be ready to hang tight. The guides helped tow several weary groups, but they did seem to expect participants to somewhat sort themselves out. Mosquitos: There were some; the guides provided environmentally kind spray and it worked well. Chips and water were waiting at the dock.;0
This excursion was trash, I wouldn't waste your money or time on it. To sum it up you take an hour and a half ride from San Juan to an area that has the strongest stench of stagnate stank water permeating through ever breath you take then you wait an additional 30 minutes for the tour guides to get it together, then you wade out in your regular clothes and shoes to board a kayak where you maneuver through dark tight mangroves in the dark in a row of inexperienced kayaks with no direction. People are running into mangroves turning around running into people who do know how to kayak its stressful. Then after all that when you get to the bay where your super excited to see some bioluminscent lights you see nothing you have to get under a stank tarp with a bunch of other kayaks and splash your hands in the water to see a few sparks. It's completely disappointing only to go on the same ride in the dark to get back. I'm experienced with a kayak when a couple accidently ran into us the tour guide finally came up and informed me that our problem was I didn't need to tell my husband where to go I need to just follow him even though I'm in front of him and am the only one who can see in the dark who is in front of us and previously kept us from hitting 3 kayaks, we were doing what we needed to be doing, when I told him that he said some of us have a strong personality and that was our issue. I wanted to say look guy if you were properly running this tour people wouldn't be running into us but I guess that was just my strong personality coming through, 20 something male chauvinist jackass if you can't run a tour better than stop running it. It's not as advertised.
Seeing the bioluminescence bay was so amazing to see, but the journey to get there was not fun. We had to kayak through a lot of seaweed that kept getting in the boat and I kept hitting myself with it. We also had to travel in the pitch dark but luckily they had flashlights when we went into trees. On the way back, we were going against the current and the instructors attached us to their boat. Highly recommend to be a strong kayaker
The guides were friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable! Our rear guide took time to point out several things to us. Great trip overall!
Few travel adventures have impressed me like this. It is important to know that the ideal time to do this tour is during the new moon.
Make sure you book this event when you can’t see the moon if it’s too bright you have to put a tarp over your head to see it and you can’t get in the water
Everything about it was fantastic! Water was magical, guides were super friendly! Snacks were provided and there were bathrooms at the launch.
Our tour guides were fun & knowledgeable. It was very dark and difficult to navigate through the lagoon as our guides kayak was not well illuminated. Overall, there’s no way to describe the beauty of the bioluminescence.
This was really great your. The guides were extremely friendly and helpful with a great sense of humor. Booking was an easy process.
There is nothing to see there. The organisms are gone for good. Despite what the disclaimer says (you may see or may not see, etc.) you won’t see anything at all. And it’s not due to light pollution or whatever, the microorganisms are just dead or almost gone. It’s really sad. I took the same tour 15 years ago and it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen, that’s why I wanted to take my friend there. The only fun part about the trip was kayaking in the dark, I don’t think it’s worth it, though.
The bus was clean, and it picked us up from our hotel. The bioluminescent bay was incredible! I went with my two friends. We felt safe in the kayak. If you are in an odd-numbered group, one of your group members will get paired with another guest. On the way back from the bay, we kayaked in the dark, but the guides had flashlights and accounted for the entire group. Our tour guide, Manolo, was friendly and patient. We were able to see the bioluminescence under the tarp (which was provided by the guides). The guides provided us with snacks and water when we returned to shore!
Be careful buying anything from Bespoke Lifestyle Management in Puerto Rico. They are a third-party vendor, and when we had an issue with the Kayaking company they booked us through, the kayaking company refused to help us because "we booked through a third-party vendor." The Bespoke representative (bus driver) couldn't get a hold of anyone at Bespoke to help us out either in time for our event, and we didn't get to participate and lost our entire booking costs. Bespoke didn't even try to help us reschedule or help with a solution. I would highly recommend you visit the vendors directly and not use this company just for security in your booking.
