Hector our tour guide was knowledgeable about his history and he was humorous which made our tour much enjoyable.
Be warned that if bus does not show-up on time (or shortly afterwards), the tour may have been canceled. The company did not inform me. I waited 45 minutes before phoning the New York number. It took the NY rep several times to effectively reach the Costa Rican office. Only then did I receive notice of the cancelation and option of taking a tour later in the day which was shortened because of the traffic from hotel to downtown meeting place. The tour itself was adequate - my second time after 3 years.
Nice to be picked up and dropped off at a hotel. I wish that they could have picked me up at my smaller 3* hotel in Ecsazu?
A great way to find your bearings in San Jose. The tour hit a number of landmarks and included an authentic Costa Rican meal.
Very efficient service, we were picked up at our hotel. The guide was perfectly bilingual and extremely knowledgeable, and made the historical events in an interesting story, so as not to sound boring! We were showed all the places of interest, had a typical Costa Rican lunch and enjoyed the whole trip!
My family and I really enjoyed this tour. We learned a lot. The tour guide and the other people were wonderful. It was the perfect amount of time. The included lunch was great. This was a well organized, coordinated and informative trip.
It was a wonderful experience to the city sightseeing tour with VIP bus. Complete tour was well organised. It covered all important places, Guide Hector was great and knowledgeable. Driver was professional. Lunch was organised in a good restaurant and was sumptuous.
SOME STRANGE EXPERIENCE: tour was ok, but a strange thing happened. We booked the tour of San Jose right from the Hilton La Sabana hotel. They booked us on the tour and told us we pay the person downstairs right before leaving on the tour. Still fine. But then, the most strange thing happened: we wanted to pay by credit card, still ok, ONLY: the person collecting the money wanted to add sales tax extra 13 % to the price of 79 US dollars. So we said "and if we pay cash?" and then there was no charge of 13 % and we paid the price the hotel had quoted us, at 79 US dollars. VERY STRANGE, or not? The person who collected the money for the tour company also issued us upon us asking, a receipt. The company who issues the receipt is NOT VIP City Bus, but a company "Tico Travel" is shown on the receipt. ALSO: when I asked for a receipt, he filled out the receipt and required me to sign at the bottom. Stupidly, I signed. Then realized later I had signed a waiver, that they are not responsible for any personal injury and and and. Never had that - I pay cash and get a receipt, and to get the receipt I have to sign that they have no responsibility whatsoever, in case of accident etc. etc.???? Very strange the whole experience. Why are they trying to get more $ if you pay with credit card - while we had been told by the otel the price was 79 US dollars?
Everyone was very informative. I loved the music from the señor. The tour was long and worth the money with all the site seeing and our tour guide Hector was great. Very much recommend!
This tour was perfect for me as a solo traveler with limited time. The bus pick up/ drop off at my hotel was convenient. The guide was fantastic, very knowledgeable. Plus I felt very safe. The tour allowed for a quick glance through many of San Jose’s main attractions.
On our first day in San Jose, this was a wonderful introduction to the city. The bus was double decker, with great views. We saw a beautiful historical mural of Costa Rican history in an art museum that was once the country’s first airport. We walked through the Central Market, had a meal of traditional food in a funky restaurant, saw the Costa Rica National Monument and went to the beautiful lobby of the National Theater. We ended the tour at the Gold Museum. On the bus there was a guitar player serenading us with Costa Rican songs. Our guide Hector did an outstanding job in Spanish and English. I appreciated his care with the group. San Jose isn’t the easiest terrain to navigate. The bus had umbrellas available for the inevitable rain. Without our own transportation, this was a fine way to see the city. Even with a car, I would not want to drive in San Jose! We were a couple, but this trip would be fine for older kids.
I enjoyed learning about Costa Rica through this tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and prompt to help us with questions. We stopped to eat local food at a very nice restaurant and enjoyed Casado, one of their typical dishes. My only suggestion would be to include a stop at the Mercado Municipal de Artesanias. Good prices and lots of stands to buy local souvenirs.
We got picked up at our hotel near the airport thinking it would be a relatively short drive into the city since it was after rush hour. We spent well over an hour to arrive at the Costa Rican national art museum where we met double decker bus. The Costa Rican art museum is worth a 14 minute visit at best. Our guide was very articulate but since it was bilingual (Spanish and English) it was very long on the talking. We spent a lot of time on that double decker, unconditioned bus with no leg room. We visited the central market and were left to shop at a souvenirs for 15 minutes. We spend couple minutes at the National Theater. We spent 15’minutes at the National monument. We had lunch at an overheated restaurant. We finished at the good museum. It was a one hour tour wrapped up in 7 hours of boredom. Give this one a miss
The guide, driver, and guitarist were great! I learned a ton about the city and the double decker bus ride was a little thrilling—-an extra perk! 😂 There’s only a couple things I would note—-we didn’t know until the end that a separate shuttle was going to bring us back to our hotel (not a big deal). We also didn’t spend more than 15-20 minutes in the Central Market (understandable with the schedule, but disappointing nonetheless) and were ushered into a very specific vendor stall. It was clear they had an arrangement and although the souvenirs were nice, we could find the same at the hotel and airport gift shops for a similar price. It would have been nice to wander a little more and be able to purchase from other vendors. Lastly, lunch was included and was pretty good, despite it being a bubble tea house. All in all, it was a great way to spend the day. The museums and sights were beautiful and the guide provided a wealth of history. I would definitely recommend the tour to anyone! Thanks again for a great day!
This tour of San Jose was well worth the time. We got a good impression of city life in Costa Rica's captital city incudling the National Art Gallery, the bustling central market, the city's largest cathedral, and the elegant National Theater. We were entertianed by a regional folk guitarist on the bus, the classic casodo meal was excellent, and we learned about Costa Rican history as well. Highly recommended.
Hector was awesome: knowledgeable, patient, and a great leader. He doesn’t d a great job talking about significant locations in San Jose. There also was a fun musical accompaniment to our tour. He was very talented . We had a fantastic time, including lunch.
The tour was a great overview of the history and culture of San Jose and Costa Rica itself. Hector was amazing in his knowledge and personality and he and the musician, the food, all well done. Would highly recommend !
Thank you to our amazing Tour guide Hector for an excellent day tour in San Jose District of Costa rica! We experienced several museums as well as the national theatre, shopping in the Mercado, the national monument and to top it off a delicious lunch! It was a day well spent.
The tour guide was excellent and she explained all parts of the tour in detail. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Customer focused. Thank you Jessie.
I recommend this tour. The guide spoke English and Spanish; however his English was difficult to understand at times as he spoke very fast-he seemed very rushed. We saw some interesting sites and the trip length was perfect with just the right number of stops.
The visit to the town and the music that was played. Ity was only 4 different couples, and the tour went on. The company was very providing.
1. The guides English was not very clear 2. The guide talked too fast 3. It was hard to get guides attention to ask a question
Save time and money by booking a tour with VIP City Bus. Our guide, driver and cantador provided us us with sites, songs and great food as we toured the art museum, central market, church and national theater. Rather than you driving and parking five or six times, let VIP take care of the details. You enjoy the scenery and friendly people of San Jose. Enjoy the market and it's energy, the sacred nature of the cathedral and the lovely theatre all wrapped into the intriguing history of Costa Rico. Finish off with a savory dinner that vompletes your day. Thank you for a wonderful tour. Me Linda Costa Rica.
Everything was excellent. Guide, driver, lunch, historical info, gold museum, national monument. I would highly recommend this tour to acclimate oneself to the highlights of San Jose.
Our guide Sergio was AMAZING! He brought San Jose to life! His knowledge of the history or Costa Rica was impressive but also added so much to the experience.
Jordan, our tour guide was excellent. He was informative with an excellent sense of humor. I really enjoyed the experience.
Jordan was an awesome tour guide. We had a great time visiting museums , parks, the central market and dinner. Totally worth the money to take this tour. Jordan told us tons of facts about the history of the city and country.
Pricey ride $70 to see 2 museums, one park and lunch. Not mush worth seeing in San Jose. We were there on Sunday so many shops were closed. Not recommended unless you have Nothing else to do!
The pick IP was 30 minutes late (however apologetic call was received in the hotel citing traffic and larger group pax to be collected). The tour has hardly 10 pax. The bus broke down and kept for one hour waiting until it is fixed. Altogether out of 3 hour scheduled tour, 1.5 hours were lost. Yet they completed the tour on time skipping many sites or not giving due time to those visited. Dinner was included. It was arranged in a third class road side restaurant. Frustrating experience.
We had a nice look around the city at night with the guide who have lots of knowledge about the city of San Jose...Nice dinner too!
Dear VIP Bus City I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the Service I received on one of your tours I conducted last week with my family in Costa Rica. During the journey, the driver showed an unpleasant and contemptuous attitude towards his partner’s work. He also behaved aggressively on the road, offending and treating other drivers badly.
Good service and compliance. The guides were very attentive to each of the visitors. Excellent food and refreshment.
