Tortuga Island Full Day Tour From San José With Lunch

Such a beautiful place and great tour. Bring sunscreen! If you have dietary restrictions just let them know ahead of time. Watch the trees along the road for monkeys!

Very poor customer service. The day before the activity, I requested to have the booking cancelled due to an emergency. The operator lied and claimed it was a no show.

This was a great day on the water, with a little bit of adventure and a lot of relaxation. We started the morning with a stop at a breakfast spot that had a cool butterfly garden attached to it. We then made our way to the docks where we boarded a boat to make the trip over to the island. We made side quests along the way to look at animals, including crocodiles, turtles and dolphins. Captain Steve drove the boat around spider monkey island in hopes of spying a few, but we were not so lucky. We then made a stop for snorkeling. Those in our group who did not want to snorkel were put on a skiff to go directly to the island while the rest of us had a nice amount of time snorkeling. There were a lot of fish to be seen and the water was the perfect temperature. It is not the clearest water I have snorkeled in, but I was still able to see plenty of fish. Once we made it to the island itself, we were treated to fresh fruit and given free time to do what we wanted. The island offered several different activities, along with lounge chair rentals, but I stuck with hanging out in the water and sitting in the area that our group was allotted. As is mentioned in other reviews, they charge for everything on the island as far as activities, lounge chair and locker rentals and access to the bathrooms. But this was explained to us at the beginning of the trip. We were also given lunch, which was a nice meal of rice, beans, chicken and salad. Overall it was a great day of observing sea life and relaxing. Our guide, Roy, was wonderful, switching between Spanish and English to ensure everyone on the trip understood everything that was going on and had all of their questions answered. He was professional but also playful and did a great job balancing the two. If you are looking for a few hours of enjoying the water, this is a great way to do so.

Roy was a great tour guide! Breakfast spot was great with a little added surprise. I did not snorkel due needing to be a very strong swimmer. Lunch was very good vibes were great and the amount of time on the beach was just enough. Comfy transportation

First, the guide was Roy was amazing. Very interactive and helpful. I think the fact they charge for everything at the island could be listed. 4 hours out and 5 hours back but the time on the island was truly fun.

Let me start with saying this was absolutely worth every penny. I had such an amazing time with a great tour guide and I went for my first solo trip. There were only about 16 people in our group, but the bus was absolutely amazing because it was super comfortable and it came with a comfortable seats, seatbelts and a USB port to charge your devices. We first stopped to get breakfast. It wasn’t the cheapest but it definitely was fulfilling and the restaurant came with a small butterfly garden and a built-in gift shop. Then we were on our way to the dock to get on our boat to go to the island and our tour guide gave us some fun facts about the nearby islands on our way getting on the boat was smooth and easy and the captain Steven was absolutely on point with giving us a beautiful opportunity to see dolphins, monkeys, and even some crocodiles the snorkeling experience was one of a kind Josue even gave us some food to give to the fish and they were eating out of our hands. It was such a crazy experience and I loved every second of it then we got onto the beach, which was lovely small but still beautiful. The water was perfect. The people were so nice and then we got fruit which was pineapple and watermelon. That was delicious. We had our lunch, which was a pretty big plate and was again delicious then they gave us coffee and cookies and then you could go ahead and buy mini excursions on the island like a walking trail or canoes or Banana boats there was a bar on the island and there were chairs that had umbrellas that you could purchase for US $11 or 5,000 CRC. The whole experience was smooth, informative fun and safe. It’s great for a couples family groups or solo travelers like myself. The only thing I did not like was if your pick up point is at the Hilton La Sabana, the drop off is not going to be in front of the hotel and you will have to walk a little bit to get back to the hotel which felt a little unsafe. But other than that, I would’ve loved to do this experience again thank you so much for the great memory.

Amazing - guides were super friendly and looked after me as the only non-native Spanish speaker - making sure I understood everything and had everything I needed. The experience itself was amazing - I saw crocodiles, dolphins (basically touching the boat they were so close!), spider monkeys and a turtle from the boat - after that we went snorkeling where I got to swim with an incredible amount of colourful fish. On the island itself the water was lovely to swim in and I enjoyed a piña colada on the beach :) we were provided lunch, grilled chicken, rice and salad which was very tasty.

Turtle island was incredible, a must visit experience. It was an early start to the morning but we got to the beach around 9/10am so it was a great time to be there. The breakfast stop on the way was delicious and there was a butterfly garden attached (wasn’t expecting it and idk if they always stop there but wow it was incredible). The boat ride was great and the tour guide Roy talked about the different islands, and what they were named after. We got lucky and got to see dolphins and we even saw a turtle (it was stuck in some rope and the captain/tour guide cut it free and saved its life!! i wouldn’t expect this on every tour but wanted to mention how incredible it was to save it!) The snorkeling was amazing, got to see lots of beautiful fish, the beach itself was warm and swimming was nice. There are other activities for an extra cost but they were fun and worth the view. Lunch was delicious and we got a snack and some coffee. We made our way back and got home around 6/7 pm local time. My only feedback, the communication the day before. I wished the shared the meet up time more in advance, we got a message around 5/6 pm local time the night before with our pick up time. You need whatsapp!! It’s worth downloading anyway to use for calling, but yeah a sooner heads up would’ve been nice but other than that great trip!!

Great experience got to see monkeys, turtles and pigs

Our guide, Yiny, was wonderful. She is quirky and funny, and our whole group really enjoyed spending time with her. She always looked out for us and truly had our best interests in mind. We felt safe and had a fantastic time at the beach. We would recommend this experience to others.

I had an amazing experience on this excursion! The guides are excellent - kind, welcoming, informative, and engaging. Every part of the trip was smooth from pick up to drop off. I even snorkled for my time - it’s included! Highly recommend this excursion. I was a solo traveler and felt completely comfortable and enjoyed meeting other travelers.

This was a super fun day! It was very nice to have everything planned for us, we had a relaxing and enjoyable beach day thanks to them! We saw dolphins, loads of fish while snorkelling and the food was very good! The staff is super nice, I would 100% recommend!

We had a great time on this tour! Pick up is very early (5 am) but it is worth it. Our guides went the extra mile to look for dolphins on the boat ride to & from the island, as well as spider monkeys. You have plenty of time on the island to relax & get great photos. Overall it was a great day!

Great snorkeling and the guide was really good. The fish were so beautiful and so many of them. I really liked it.

The day started out well and the boat ride to the island was great. Once we got to the beach we enjoyed ourselves and the lunch was good. The guide Don was good but when we were on the way back I was disappointed that we weren’t allowed to have snacks or food on the bus. I thought we would stop and get dinner since we ate at 11:30 and didn’t get back till close to 7. I felt the bus driver was driving reckless and scared my kids a few times. The only part of the day we enjoyed was boat ride and the beach time I didn’t care for the transportation cause any other tour I been on would allow food and drinks.

It was an early morning start! Yikes. But it was all worth it. Our guide, Percy, was excellent. He was very knowledgeable and shared many historical facts as we went along. Showed us many animal and bird sitings. He is obviously very serious about his job and does all he can to make sure everyone is safe, happy and well- cared for. He made a point of stopping along the way to show us amazing things like two sea turtles mating - rare to see. We also stopped and watched dolphins among other things. Snorkeling was very good. The equipment was better than most. The day was relaxing and easy. The lunch was absolutely delicious and we were surprised at the high quality they served compared to other excursions. Food when you are tired and hungry is important and they did it right! I would highly recommend this tour. We thoroughly enjoyed!

Your experience starts early in the morning but it’s so worth it. Isla Tortuga is beautiful. We saw dolphins and the lunch they prepared on the island for us was incredible.

Great experience traveling to Isla Tortuga from the moment I was picked up to the moment I was dropped off. The guide was Very informative and the island was beautiful. Was able to enjoy a restful and relaxed afternoon and was also able to see some animals in sight.

The guide was exceptional. The boat ride out to the island was an experience as we saw crocodiles, dolphins, and monkeys. The snorkeling was great fun.

This was a perfect way to wrap up ky trip to Costa Rica. The entire experience was fantastic. The island is beautiful and Inside Tours are great host. Thumbs up all around.

Great one day trip from San Jose. Well organisée trip, Roy was very friendly and helpful! Many paid activities possible on the island!

Not worth the time and energy. Met shuttle at appointed time 0545. Was told immediately that i could not have my backpack on the shuttle it would have to ride in storage. Had i know this I would never have booked this excursion. The drive was about 3 hours. I needed my chapstick and a host of other things that were “stored”. Boarded a 30 yr old speed boat and flew to the island (the only enjoyable part of excursion and the most UNSAFE!!) once at the island we were told we would be there for 5 hours. Discouraged to do snorkeling by crew. Said “don’t go unless you are a very good swimmer” so no snorkeling. No paddle boarding. Nothing but laying on a $22 lounger. Went to get a drink and the bartender did not have a clue. Lunch was dry and nasty and we were given apple juice in medicine cups to have with meal. They charged to use the restroom. Finally staff spent most of the 5 hours there playing on cell phones and smoking cigs. There was no service for phones and no service from staff. At 3 we loaded the boat to go back. Again we’re told to put our backpacks in the storage under the shuttle. This trip was 5 hours because of all the stops to let people off. And when it came to my stop the driver missed the turn, stopped in the middle of the street and told me to walk to hotel. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! This same “tour group” does other excursions as well and I would give them a negative 10.

It was a fun day. The only tricky part was being in the right spot for our pick up in front of Gran Hotel. We needed to be on the Main Street in front of it and not in the hotel drop off area. My daughter got stung by a jellyfish and we asked the bartender for some help and he gave us vinegar to get the sting out. We really appreciated that. :) The snorkeling was really great and we saw a lot of fish. The included fruit and meal was Aplus.

Yes it was an early morning but worth it! Stopped for breakfast super cheap and great stop. 45 min boat ride to the island was great too, saw dolphins & crocodiles as well. The free snorkeling was also a treat! The island itself was great, you can rent chairs for $10 or just put your towel out. The lunch was good and fresh fruit & cookies were a treat. Got back around 7pm to my hotel! Highly recommend, long day but worth it.

The Tortuga Island Tour is good adventure. Our day was mixed with some rain while on our way there and some rain while we were on the boat going to the island. The rain stopped before we reached the island and the rest of our day was dry while on the beach. We had a nice relaxing time on the beach. When fruit snacks and when lunch was served, we enjoyed them. Our tour guide was very pleasant and friendly. But I wished he had been more engaging by providing information about Costa Rica during our ride up to the island. Especially for tourists who have had been to Costa Rica before. However I am glad he cut our tour short by one hour to avoid getting caught in bad weather on the Pacific Ocean on our way back to the boat dock. Certainly glad of that. If you are being picked up in San Jose for this tour be prepared for a long ride to the pacific coast . And a long ride back.

Our Tortuga Island excursion was amazing from start to finish. They picked us up, stopped for breakfast, then took us to the dock before heading out on the boat. The ride was beautiful and we even saw monkeys and dolphins along the way. Lunch was included and very good, and the island itself was stunning with clear water and a relaxing atmosphere. Highly recommend for a memorable day.

We had an amazing time the ride there is a bit long so be prepared for that but in all the island was beautiful, the water was beautiful, the lunch was delicious. 10/10 recommend!

Overall a great trip. Always on time, the drive to Puntarenas was very comfortable, and the boat ride was great. Very nice beach to spend the day.

We had an amazing experience on the Tortuga Island tour! Everything was well organized from start to finish. We were picked up at the designated meeting point and made an enjoyable stop along the way, including breakfast, souvenir shopping, and a beautiful butterfly area. The speedboat ride to Tortuga Island was exciting, and one of the highlights was seeing dolphins on the way! Once we arrived, we were provided with delicious food and had plenty of time to enjoy the island. There were also additional activities available for those looking for more adventure, and a bar where you could relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The island itself was absolutely stunning, and the staff were friendly, helpful, and welcoming throughout the entire trip. This was one of the highlights of our vacation, and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Costa Rica!

Amazing experience. The drive was beautiful, nice big air conditioned bus. Joshua was an amazing guide. We went on an amazing speedboat and saw dolphins. The snorkeling was so fun and we saw all kinds of fish. Beautiful water, strong sun, an amazing day trip.

The experience was fun and adventurous and the snorkeling was fun wish it was for an hour. The food offered was descent but surprisingly it had no beans which would have been a nice addition. The tour guide was fun and engaging. The staff were respectful and helpful at all times. No fried fish on the island that day. Bummer!

Food was over cooked, alcohol beverages weak and over priced. It was a Cousy day but beach vey warm . Nice.

Tortuga Island was the perfect relaxing beach day! 🌴☀️ The tour guide was amazing and everything was very organized. They were on time for hotel pickup, which made the experience stress-free from the start. I definitely suggest bringing your own towels, but if you forget, you can grab some at the breakfast stop. Snorkeling is also available if you want a little extra adventure and experience the water even more! If you’re looking for a relaxing day on the beach with beautiful views and great vibes, book this tour! We got back around 6 PM and overall had a great experience. Highly recommend!

It can be as much activity or as much relaxing as you wish. The beach is protected so the water was wonderful. But sunscreen and reapplication is a must.
