This was an excellent tour taken on 25 Oct 2026. The meetup spot was easy to find and there was a parking lot conveniently across from it with reasonable prices. Edgar was our tour guide and he possessed a significant amount of historical and cultural knowledge and was able to expand upon any additional topics the group had questions about. In addition to the historical part of the tour, a visit to a local pub and restaurant was also included. A complimentary beer is provided at the pub, of which I chose a chocolate porter that was delicious. If one does not prefer to try one of the beers there are non-alcoholic beverages available. Edgar continued to convey his expert historical knowledge as we enjoyed our beverages, and group members were also able to learn more about each other which was easy to do since we had a small group of three. We walked the streets of San Jose for a while longer after leaving the pub and learned more interesting history. Finally, the culmination of the tour took place at a local restaurant. Edgar gave us several dish options from which we could choose two, as well as a choice of two drinks. I had the stewed meat served with rice and patacones that were accompanied by guacamole, refried beans, and pico de gallo. Everything was seasoned well and tasted great. For my drink, I chose a red sangria which was flavorful and not watered down. Once again non alcoholic beverages were available for those that don't want to try one of the beers or sangria. The group enjoyed various interesting conversations due to our very diverse backgrounds and Edgar continued to dazzle us with the breadth of his knowledge. This was a perfect end to an excellent tour experience. I highly recommend this tour, as all aspects of it were organized well. Unfortunately, it was cool and rainy during ours, but Edgar's engaging personality, as well as the kindness displayed by the staff at the pub and restaurant we visited ensured that it did not ruin our experience.

Great tour. I learned a lot about Costa Rica History. I loved the parks and places we went. The foot was delicious.
Excellent tour!! Edgar is a great tour guide. I learned a lot about Costa Rica Culture.
Edgar was knowledgeable, kind and funny. I expected a larger group but I happily met one other person, Stephen, with whom I had a lovely time sharing a great walk, talk, dinner and drinks! Thank for both for a lovely fun and educational night in San Jose.
Was an interesting walking tour involving Costa Rican history with a stop at a local bar and ending at Aguizotes restaurant.
Plan for rush hour traffic. We were late and only got to experience the meal. Allow at least an hour for a cab to get you there.
Jordan was an amazing tour guide. His passion about the culture and his country of origin was palpable and would highly recommend. We truly enjoyed this experience and the delicious gastronomic tour of the local dishes at Aguizotes in the barios Escalantes. You don’t want to miss this tour and we were so thankful to enjoy it on our last night in beautiful Costa Rica! We will be back to enjoy more Intrepid tours.
We had a great experience with Intrepid and Jordan was an amazing guide. He is very knowledgeable about Costa Rican and San José history. The trip ended at a fantastic restaurant named Agüizotes. The food and drinks were delicious and refreshing. You will have a great time with Intrepid and Jordan.
Malo was very friendly and professional. Just the right amount of information. His personal insights were relevant. I also appreciate that the tour operated as I was the only one. Well done
We cant control the weather, but despite the rain I learnt so much and had a fun time! Edgar was friendly and knew his stuff. Thank you!!!
It was a great experience! I learned a lot about the history of Costa Rica and got to enjoy the cuisine of San Jose. I would highly recommend attending if you want to see the beauty of the city and learn more about it.
If you’re into local history you’ll appreciate this tour. The guide was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot. It lasted about 4.5 hours, and there was a lot of walking involved so be prepared for that. Also know that the ending spot is not at the same place as the initial meeting spot. We must have missed that so we’re either had to uber back or walk 30 mins back to where we started. We had one drink/bar stop and one restaurant stop that included drinks, an appetizer, dinner, and a dessert.
Edgar was a great guide, very friendly in finding us, knowledgeable about the country & San Jose. It was nice to see a few neighborhoods that we had not visited! Restaurant for dinner was delicious with attentive & very friendly staff!
Our guide was Emil and he was outstanding, extremely knowledgeable, friendly, efficient, articulate, and seems to really enjoy his work. It was a four hour experience, walking through the downtown area and nearby historic landmarks in San Jose. We stopped for chocolate and coffee at a cute local shop. The tour was relaxed, not at all rushed. After a leisurely coffee, we walked through several parks with historical significance. Finally, the tour ended with a tasty Costa Rican meal in Barrio Escalante. We enjoyed it thoroughly. Highly recommend. Five stars. Thank you, Emil! John & Danielle

Did the tour in June 2026 with Emil. Tour was great. Lots of walking, but the pace is not too fast. Did a couple of historical spots. The food at the end was great. There was also a stop in the middle at a cafe. Guide was knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
The tour guide Alejandro was wonderful he really took his time showing us all the monuments, and each area with a connection to history, culture and modern day significance. He was really nice and professional.
Alejandro was a great tour guide—very knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. He took his time to answer questions, shared interesting facts throughout the tour, and made sure everyone felt comfortable and engaged. His enthusiasm and passion for the area really enhanced the experience. The tour was well organized, informative, and enjoyable from start to finish. I would highly recommend Alejandro to anyone looking for a memorable and informative tour.
Definitely recommend this tour to get a feel of San Jose and learn about its history. I learned so much and Alejandro was so friendly and knowledgeable! He was great at suggesting other places to visit on your own and pointed out so many things on our walk. Definitely recommend!
Alejandro was great! Very knowledgeable of the city’s history. Provided with detailed and easy to follow historical facts
The experience was very good. I guide was very informative and personable. The local food and drinks were great as well.
My wife and I had some free time in San Jose before flying out the next day and was looking for something to do and take advantage of our time in Costa Rica. I looked at other tours and nothing really seemed appealing. I bumped into this tour and ended up being pretty fun. We walked a lot, so wear comfortable shoes. Our tour guide "Alejandro" took us to several monuments and buildings to describe their significance. We learned about the architecture, country history, past presidents and their contributions to CR. Learned about country's current economic achievements and exports, along with how far CR has come to be "green". Overall very educative... Half way through the tour we stopped at one of the oldest bars in San Jose "El Social", need to try the "Micheladas". Then finished up at another restaurant/bar where we ended up having dinner. Food was great, it was local style eating with a upper scale twist. Overall the tour was fun and educational, I would recommend it...
A great way to experience the city especially as a solo traveler and learn about some of its history and Costa Rican culture followed by a delicious and generous traditional meal
I can't rate something that was canceled less then 24 hour before excursion. But they request if costumer cancel has to be with two days in advance. Then you are left with no alternative for that day. And the company gives no options. Very disgusted with the process.
A good overview of cultural and political features of downtown San Jose. A good bit of walking but just what I wanted to get an overview of some history and architecture and culture.
The San Jose walking tour w/ pub & restaurants was a lot of fun. Ending the tour with a fun dinner in Barrio Escalante. Joanna did a great job & we recommended this tour to a number of our friends. We’d do this one again, for sure. Tom G. Fairhope, AL. USA
Wonderful experience. My guide was super kind, super energetic and very knowledgeable. And to food was great! Highly recommend.
We hit the ground running and experienced the best culture night tour on the streets of San Jose, Costa Rica. So much history, heard about William Walker who actually lived in my city, New Orleans, This tour was above and beyond greater than any of my expectations. Karol and Johana were amazing guides, we learned so much and there was so much to see, cork trees, beautiful parks, coffe bean trees, historical buildings, art work, live opera performance as we were passing by! Bravo with a wave. We met great people too. Somos más que Café is were I experience a warm and tasty cup of coffee, it was a cappuccino with a hit of ginger and lime, it was so very delightful. We ended our night at a very unique dinning spot with the best Authentic Costa Rican food ever, there were several meal options to choose from, drinks for me 2 glasses of Sangria, My dessert was a brownie with vanilla ice cream, “ you know what it’s called” Awesome! Awesome! Awesome!🇨🇷🫶🏽🇨🇷
Leo was my guide and he was excellent. Knowledge and friendly, he explained the past and present of San Jose and also of Costa Rica in an interesting way...And the restaurant we went for dinner was a superb choice.
Had a great tour with Malo! I especially appreciated that Malo shared a picture of himself with me so I knew exactly who I was looking for.
What a fantastic way to see this city. I really feel like I got a good overview of the city's highlights and history. Don't underestimate the food places on the itinerary. It was amazing. A truly memorable meal, representative of the local cuisine. Miguel was knowledgeable and charming. Clearly an experienced guide who tailored the tour to our group. By the end of the evening, it felt like I had just spent time with friends as opposed to merely being with strangers on a tour. I highly recommend this tour.
Jorge was knowledgeable and very friendly. The stories behind the buildings and statues helped to build my understanding of the development of San Jose and Costa Rica. I had a fantastic experience.
Was not able to make it because my airline delayed the flight by a whole day. Tour guide and Viator is refusing to refund me even though this was out of my control.
It was a very good group. The guy was knowledgeable and the food was good. I would recommend. It would’ve been easier if the menu had been written out for us so that we had more time to decide people were really friendly.
Esteban was an amazing tour guide! There were 3 of us in our group with him and he did an awesome job telling us about the culture and the history as we walked the streets, ate in the cafe and sipped hot chocolate. It was beautiful architecture and sightings. I would definitely do it again with a tour guide like Esteban!
Very Highly recommended We had an evening to kill in San Jose between our flight landing in the afternoon and heading off to central valley the following morning. We are a family of 4 that includes 17 and 21 year old children. Daniel was our guide and the experience was a perfect way to fill that evening. He was very interesting to listen to and taught us a lot of about CR culture and history. The evening was capped by the best food we had in CR. Note - you only eat at the very end of the tour so don't start out hungry!
The tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. He seems to really enjoy what he does. The tour was not really inspiring though. I could have probably taken the same stroll on my own. There really was nothing much to see. The stop at the bar was nice and the beer is refreshing. The last part consisted of a walk of over 25 minutes of nothingness to a restaurant. By the time I got the restaurant I was exhausted. Luckily the food there was delicious. There was some really nice folks on the tour with us and that made it a bit fun.
This is the second time I've taken this tour while in San Jose, and I learn new things each time. Alejandro took his time and did a great job explaining the history at each stop. It's a great way to spend the evening in the city!
The tour guide cancelled on me due to the weather, and then I never received a refund for the experience.
Too overpriced for the experience. The guide spoke to quaet, it was hard to listen. Not a good food.
This tour was great! So much information and the guides were super knowledgeable about past and present information on the culture and city. There was a mid point stop and there were several options! The only thing was were close to tour guide but there were times being by traffic it was hard to hear. We had a small group so we were about to come closer to guide but if group was large it might be more of a challenge. The route was safe and comfortable for sandals but during the rainy season best probably for tennis (I got lucky).
Tour guide never showed up. Extremely disappointing, no communication or updates provided. The whole group waited around for 30 minutes. We all expect a full refund for this booking as the services we paid for were not provided
Our guide, Mary Ann, showed us major San Jose & Costa Rican cultural & historical sights plus, the chocolate drinks, and food were spectacular at the different area stops! We really appreciated her additional in-depth knowledge of mythology and the gardens. We Highly recommend this tour!
This was one of the many highlights of the trip! The food, the history, the culture were all brought together in a beautiful tapestry woven by our guide who was knowledgeable and fun!
My wife and I had a wonderful time on our tour despite the rain. Our guide was informative and knowledgeable on the history of San Jose. This tour did one stop for drink before the dinner stop. If you are expecting multiple stops for food like other food tours, this is not that type of tour.
Walking around the city center with Raquel was very enjoyable. I learned lots of interesting facts about San Jose. The parks are beautiful! We enjoyed a refreshing drink and delicious dinner. A fun outing!
It was a wonderful tour. I learned a lot about Costa Rica, San Jose and its different neighborhods, the food culture and got to see some cool street art along the way! Muchas gracias!
We had a great evening with Esteban! The tour was informative and our dinner out was exceptional! This tour was worth the money we paid.
This was my first time to Coast Roca and I was by myself. It was nice having a plan to tour the city. It ended up just being me on the tour but still was a great experience! I definitely will book again if I return to Costa Rica.
Esteban was a fantastic guide and my wife and I had a great experience. We enjoyed the personal attention and consideration provided and would recommend this to anyone looking to learn about San Jose and try authentic Costa Rican drinks and food.
