The food and drink experience was very good. They had a local drink upon arrival at our destination that was similar to a bloody mary. We made an empanada. While that was cooking we made a local version a mojito. After enjoying our empanada and drink we made yet another drink then ate our chicken tacos and fried yuka. They served an after dinner coffee drink last. The hosts were very accommodating to any food allergies. There was not any salsa dance lessons or tequila mixology. Also the end of the tour was at the coffee shop and not back at the starting point.

Itinerary
Our tour begins at the entrance of the bank, right next to the Monumento de los Presentes, which features small, green figures. We'll start by discussing how this monument symbolizes the resilience and survival of the community through challenging times, bridging the past and present. It's a powerful reminder of the strength and unity that have shaped the city, setting the tone for our journey through its rich history and vibrant culture.
We will visit the Central Market, established in 1880, where you'll have the opportunity to learn about the foundations of Costa Rican agriculture and daily culture. This historic market is a vibrant hub of local life, offering a glimpse into the traditions and practices that have shaped Costa Rican cuisine for generations. As we explore the market, you'll discover the essential ingredients, meet local vendors, and gain insight into the agricultural practices that sustain the region. It's a perfect introduction to the rich cultural tapestry that makes Costa Rica unique.
We will pass by the Templo de la Música, an iconic structure located in Morazán Park. As we explore this beautiful pavilion, you'll learn about its rich cultural history and the significant role it has played in the city's artistic and social life. Built in the early 20th century, the Templo de la Música has hosted countless concerts, events, and gatherings, becoming a beloved symbol of the city's vibrant cultural scene. Its design, inspired by classical architecture, adds a touch of elegance to the park, making it a perfect spot to reflect on the cultural heritage that has shaped the community.
An Exclusive "Farm-to-Table" Finale The evening concludes in a private home dining setting within a designated historical building. This is the ultimate highlight because: • Caribbean Influence: While many tours focus on Central Valley food, this highlights the vibrant, spicy, and coconut-infused flavors of Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast. • Intimacy: It avoids the "tourist trap" feel of public restaurants, offering a quiet, art-filled space that feels like a dinner party with friends. You will get to cook your own "Empanada Arreglada" and have a blast crafting two unique signature drinks: the "Morenito" (a delicious coffee-based cocktail) and a refreshing "Mojito de Cas" (made with a tropical fruit unique to Costa Rica). Whether one person crafts cocktails while the other helps cook, or you both prefer to just relax and enjoy the show, the choice is yours!

EXCELLENT!!!!! Food, guides, information. Angel (our guide) was excellent. The info he shared was super interesting. We learned a lot and had a ton of fun. Maria was also helpful during the tour. Great value for experience
We had an amazing time. We got a little history, a walk through the market and finished it off with making delicious food and cocktails. This was kne of the biggest highlights of our trip. Angel was our guide and he was phenomenal! Would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting San Jose.
Angel was our tour guide, he was excellent. I appreciate that he took his time explaining The Market to the food and drinks. It was well worth the price. I recommend this tour if you are visiting Costa Rica.
You learn a lot about the Costa Rican culture, the guide is very fun and willing to laugh with you and you'll have a great time!
Our tour guide, Angel was fantastic. Food was great. Wonderful experience.
What a fun evening! From learning about the are to having an interactive cooking session making Costa Rican foods and drinks! Definitely a must for a visitor!
This was such a fun way to get to learn more about Costa Rican culture! Our guide Angel was very friendly and engaging. I'd definitely recommend this tour for anyone who wants to expand their mind and stomach 🙂
Marcelo and Angel gave us a fabulous experience and evening! This is a great tour and must do in downtown San Jose, would recommend to absolutely everyone!
Definitely a “must-do” experience. The food and cocktails were amazing but what really set this over the top was our tour guides, Marcelo & Angel. We really appreciated learning about the Costa Rican culture, as well as the cuisine.
This is a great experience and I would highly recommend it. Our tour guide Angel gave us history of Costa Rica from its inception to current day. You will go on a tour in the market and then to a private establishment to cook and create local Costa Rica drinks. Although I was solo, there were a total of 10 participants plus Angel and everyone made you feel welcome. You won’t be disappointed.
Angel was an amazing tour guide and teacher. From the moment he met the group he was very informative, funny, entertaining and helpful. I really enjoyed his conversations about food and traveling and was very patient when we asked questions about San Jose. The food was excellent as well. We started in the Central Market, ate delicious ice cream and walked around. Then we went to the café and started drinking and eating. We had about 4 cocktails - some we made with as much/little alcohol you prefer and some were premade. We ate about 3 tapas dishes. I won't say much so as to not ruin what was served but let me just say it was an enjoyable time.
We literally had such a great tour guide, Angel. It was so much fun to see San Jose and appreciate its history and uniqueness. The cooking portion was so fun and interactive. We were all “a cachete”!!!!
Great food and drinks. Love the guide, he really knew history and modern things as well!! Will tell others.
We had an amazing time with Angel! The trip through the market was fun and educational, we learned so much about Costa Rican fruits especially, which we then got to use to make cocktails. The empanadas were so fun to make, and the rest of dinner was delicious! Thank you Angel!
Such an amazing experience! Angel was a great guide and the food and drinks were delicious! Tour was very well thought out and enjoyable!
Angel was fantastic! He had great energy, was incredibly knowledgeable, and made the entire tour fun and engaging. We especially enjoyed visiting the market, making our own cocktails, and learning how to make empanadas. The meal at the end was absolutely delicious—we left very full! We also enjoyed meeting some wonderful new people along the way. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting San José.
What a fantastic night!! Angel was friendly, warm, and so knowledgeable, he answered every question confidently and made the whole evening exciting and memorable. The food was delicious, the cocktails were absolutely divine, and the cocktail class was such a fun hands-on touch. The location itself was cozy and spotlessly clean, with gorgeous tropical decor that made it feel special from the moment we walked in. I loved every minute of this experience and would 100% recommend it to anyone visiting San José. Such a lovely way to spend an evening!
Excellent experience! This was the highlight of our time in San Jose. Angel was an outstanding guide and the food and drinks were amazing. You will not leave hungry or thirsty!!! We parked a little too far away and had trouble finding the meeting place (our fault), and the one-way downtown streets were not easy to navigate. I would recommend getting dropped off for this to make it easy on yourself. Definitely a must-do in San Jose!
Angel was our incredibly knowledgeable and thoughtful guide and instructor. His tour of the Mercado and Avenida Central was thorough and funny. We had so much fun making cocktails and empanadas—our group was diverse and cohesive — and that was just the appetizer. Afterwards we went downstairs for even more authentic food and drinks for dinner. We highly recommend this experience to curious travelers and adventuresome eaters.
The experience was fantastic! Angel and his team provided such a great experience for us all. No better way to celebrate my birthday in Costa Rica!
This is a must do in San Jose Costa Rica! We did this in our first night to get accustomed to the country/city and Oscar, our guide, did an absolutely fantastic job. He was very knowledgeable in history, funny, and kind. The group was 6 people including myself, and we walked through the central market and the central avenue. Oscar did not pressure us to buy anything or get any souvenirs, he just simply told us about what's in the area and what to look for. He was honest about pick pocketers and the not-so-charming things about Costa Rica as well, giving us a realistic perspective of the country. The food and drinks served at dinner was super delicious. I am personally not a heavy drinker so it was nice to be able to have a mocktail or do a very light pour for myself. Overall this was an amazing tour to learn about the food, area, and culture. Thank you Oscar!
Angel is such a friendly and knowledgeable guide. He was very patient with us and explained to us each detail of what we were making/ how it related to Costa Rican culture. 10/10, thank you guys!
Angel was a great host and guide. I traveled solo and ended up enjoying the night with the rest of the group. The walking was manageable and there was more food than I expected. The hosts at the private restaurant we ended up at for the rest of the evening were very kind and helpful. I would highly recommend this.
Angel was a very good guide. It was fun to learn a little about the city on our walking part of the tour. We also really enjoyed getting to make the food and beverages typical to the area. It was an extra treat to get a full meal and drinks while enjoying the company of other tour goers! This tour was very reasonably priced for all that you get. Do it!
A great way to learn some history and immerse yourself in local culture. The food was delicious. Angel did an awesome job.
My family and I (5 in total) were a bit late because we left our hotel late after checking in, so we missed the market tour. We still had a fantastic time enjoying the farm to dinner table and cocktail class. I would recommend this experience to anyone staying in San Jose.
This is fun, engaging and entertaining. We learn a lot about downtown San José. We have done this often when guests visit.
Very good! But please be mindful when presenting on food so that it’s not too close to your mouth, at times your saliva was getting into the food.
If you want to be immersed in the culture of San Jose, this is how. Incredibly worth the value! Angel, our guide, was super friendly and knowledgeable and made the experience very enjoyable.
Oscar was great. He is a student of history who made the tour a wonderful experience. Mixing history culture food and drinks ...you can't ask for anything better. Glad we booked it.
Such a great time w Angel! Learned so much and at a lot of great food. Was definitely fulfilled by the end
Excellent food and drinks! Would recommend to meet people and try new food
Very knowledgeable tour kind, learned a lot about the city, very hands on activities making delicious drinks and tasty food. Highly recommended!
Angel was AMAZING! Very entertaining, the food was delicioussssss, very interactive. The drinks were amazing. You get to walk and see where the locals hang and explore culture then you go to a nice place and begin the cooking and cocktail class! I can’t believe the food was that good honestly. The whole thing was a 10/10. One of the most enjoyable things I did in Costa Rica
Angel was very nice. He gave a wonderful tour of the city. The food and drinks we made delicious especially the sangria.
We had a great time and really enjoyed the food, drinks, informative tour and being able to make empanadas ourselves. Thank you Angel for a wonderful evening!
Great Experience. We took a small tour of the city, which was very informative. Then, we made a recipe and two cocktails. Afterwards, we ate our creations and also were given more courses made by the kitchen. The food was fantastic and this was a great dinner to have in San Jose!
A wonderful way to learn about Costa Rican culture and history. Oscar was very knowledgeable and friendly. Food and drinks were delicious!
We had such a wonderful experience learning about Costa Rica and its culture. The dinner experience was a blast. Marcelo was amazing!
There is not much actual food prep but it was fun what there was. Oscar toured us around the market and the downtown, he uses a small speaker to project his voice, he's highly entertaining and full of information. The food part was wonderful. Overall great entertainment.
It was a lot of fun touring and learning about San José city and then making and enjoying cocktails and empanadas. Dinner was very good and filling!
Suggest the name be changed to better reflect the experience. We didn’t have dinner at a local’s home but rather at a cozy restaurant with individual attention from our tour guide/chef. Night in San Jose may concern some, perhaps rightfully so. The evening was spent in the restaurant not walking the street.
Bring your appetite and a sweater. Plenty of amazing local food. Wonderful walk through the Central Market. Andrea showed us many vendors with a fascinating range of items to purchase. She included us in preparing the food and drinks which was a BLAST but not overwhelming. This tour was fun and a perfect example of Pura Vida! Our chef and bartender at the restaurant were excellent as well. I thoroughly enjoyed the evening and will do it again.
We met at the monument in front of the main entrance of the Central Bank of Costa Rica. There we met our guide Angel. He was a wonderful guide. Very knowledgeable, and personable. He took very good care of us. First we did a walking tour, starting with the nearby central market. Finishing our evening at the Mr. Sloth Coffee shop building. There we started our meal making, and drinks upstairs, then moved to the lower level where we were served a delicious meal, with drinks. At the restaurant Angel was joined by Marcelo, who also took very good care of us. We had perhaps around 20 people in our group. It ended up being very manageable, and we had a very nice group to share the evening with. We had a very nice time. Or evening finished around 7:30pm. It was very easy, and safe, to get an Uber just outside of the building.
This was such a fun way to spend a night in San José and the perfect way to end our trip. We started with a short walking tour around the city, learning about some of the history and older buildings. We even walked through the local central market, which felt lively and full of character. It was a great way to see a different side of the city beyond just our hotel area. Once we arrived at the restaurant, the experience really came to life. We were shown how to make empanadas, specifically an empanada arreglada, and we each got to make our own. There is something about making your own food that just makes it taste better. Then came the cocktails. We were first served a Morenito made with coffee, rum, cinnamon, and whipped cream. It was so good and felt very Costa Rican. After that, we learned how to make a Mojito de Cas, which uses a tropical fruit unique to Costa Rica. It was fresh and different from any mojito I have had before. Dinner was a four course meal with two drinks included, and everything was delicious. Sangria for the win. The atmosphere felt warm and relaxed, and we ended up having great conversations with other travelers at our table. It felt social but intimate at the same time. Good food, good drinks, good company, and learning something new along the way. Such a beautiful way to spend our last night.
Excellent food tour of San Jose. Oscar was an entertaining and knowledgeable guide. We've collected some new recipes!
I was running late because of airport issues. Angel our guide answered when i called and had me meet the group at the restaurant and looped me in on everything they were doing. I didnt expect to be able ti join late at all but they were really gracious and so kind. And the food was awesome!!
This tour provides an outstanding cultural and dining experience! Angel our tour guide was terrific. Our tour started at the Central Market where we spent time visiting some of the vendors. We then walked through the city on our way to the cooking and cocktail-making class. As we walked, Angel provided information about the history and culture of Costa Rica. Our cooking and cocktail-making class was a lot of fun with Angel and his assistant. We then had a sit down delicios dinner with more cocktails! I highly recommend this tour,at $49.00 per person, it is a great deal.
