We had a wonderful time with Serigo as our guide through the city! He gave us an incredible tour because it is clear that he is very passionate about history. He was friendly and cheerful and gave us recommendations on food, music, and places to see.
We had a great time on our tour, there was a protest march on at the time and Jorge took care to alter our route so that we did not get mixed up in it! We had some really tasty food and learned about coffee in a very classy coffee restaurant where we got to drink eome special coffee. Jorge was extremely knowledgeable about the history of San Jose and Costa Rica. Highly recommended tour!
We had a free day at the end of our coast Rica tour as our flight wasn’t until 18.30 so we’re looking for something to do to fill the day. So pleased we did! Had a thoroughly enjoyable morning with Felipe who was very knowledgeable and passionate about his city. We were lucky that it was only the 2 of us so felt he could tailor make the tour to what we were interested in. Only wish we could have done this at the beginning of our tour as we would have loved to explore San Jose more,
Really interesting ride starting downtown - learning more of the history of CR - it’s coming to be and its culture. Then across different neighbourhoods where you can also see much differences to the feel and life in general. Very informative and then we had fantastic empanadas at the winning empanadas cafe and then onto a coffee tasting experience. Good bikes, good helmets and great guide (Elric) You may think it’s dangerous to ride round San Jose. We felt completely safe. Traffic was easy to navigate. It’s not a super long ride so very easy. Meet outside the national theatre then very short walk to pick up the bikes so don’t worry that you’re in the wrong place. Definitely recommend.
Learn a lot about history. Great coffee testing. Experience Good local food. No e-bikes but don’t really need
Felipe was a fantastic guide, he explained so much interesting history of San Jose and Costa Rica as we rode along. The coffee stop and empanada stop were wonderful. The traffic was very manageable, not a problem. Felipe made sure we had a safe ride. We would recommend this tour to anyone visiting San Jose.
If you are fit to ride bikes up a couple hills, this tour is the best! Very engaging guide, you’ll see so much of the downtown area you would not see otherwise, fanTAStic coffee stop, yummy snack, wish we could rate this 6 or 7 stars!
Absolute blast doing this tour. Our guide had some great local stories, and the empanadas were fantastic. Good pace, and since it was just the two of us, our guide adapted the tour according to our preferences. Loads of fun.
It was a holiday when we did this tour so the roads weren't busy. Could be trickier with more traffic. Great insight into San Jose and Costa Rican history. Really enjoyed the coffee tasting and exceptional empanadas at a local soda.
Felipe was an excellent guide who went above and beyond of what we expected. He demonstrated outstanding passion and knowledge.
Felipe was nice and incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the city. The coffee stop far exceeded our expectations and the other bites stop was also delicious. Would definitely recommend to others!
Just did a 3 hour bike ride with our guide Felipe. He had so much to tell about his beloved city of San Jose. An amazing way to explore a new city.
Cycling keeps the teenagers entertained while learning about the history and buildings in San José. The bite and coffee visit were also really nice.
We enjoyed our tour of the city! Jorge taught us about the history of the both the city of San Jose and the country itself. The city isn't as bike-friendly as some places but he did a great job of keeping us safe. We stopped for fresh empanadas and then again for coffee. We learned about different coffee brewing processes so that was a fun add-on.
Our tour guide provided us with excellent history of Costa Rica. Very knowledgable about different neighborhoods in San Jose. We had fun biking around the city to find hidden gems, like delicious empanadas and coffee cafes. We would recommend this tour to anyone visiting San Jose.
Felipe was a wonderful guide. Very knowledgeable and easygoing. It was a great history lesson about San Jose and Costa Rica. The coffee spot was the highlight of the tour.
Pablo provided a fun, informative, and safe bicycle tour. The bikes were in good condition and helmets were comfortable. Interesting and beautiful plazas and important historical buildings were featured as well as delicious empanadas and ice coffee. Pablo answered our questions about the tour and gave good advice on places to visit in Costa Rica and hear live music in San Jose.
Excellent tour of the key things that give San Jose its history, food flavors, and coffee. Malo was excellent and enthusiastic about sharing info and making your trip great. Terrain is easy and can be ridden without an e-bike.
Terrific tour in San Jose. We biked to some parks, learned some history, ate amazing empanadas and had great coffee. The bikes were in very good condition. Helmets were provided. I’m not an urban cyclist but was able to ride carefully even with the traffic. I did feel overwhelmed by the pedestrian traffic at the end of the tour and walked up the last hill. None of the hills were very steep or long. Pablo our guide was careful not to go too fast and lose me. I’ve been left behind on other tours.
Pablo was amazing! He was easy-going, he catered to our timing needs and he was loaded with information. He was also a perfect cycle-tour leader, keeping a great eye on us for safety. After having visited Costa Rica 3 times, we now have such a fuller understanding and impression of this beautiful country and people. Highlights were the stops for Empanatas and coffee tastings with Felipe at Moro Cafe in Barrio Escalante. We can't recommend Pablo and ChepeCletas enough! Rick, Alison and Hilary Colorado, US
Laura was amazing. It's was just my buddy and I and we probably had more fun than normal tourists should AND we requested a few changes to the itinerary which Laura handled easily with alternate options. It was a lot of fun. The hills were not so bad and the weather was not so good. I do recommend the tour.
The experience was great the guide was very knowledgeable we learned a great deal about the history of San Jose.
We had the most incredible time on the Chepe Cletas Bike and Bites tour. We were not sure what to expect, but love to cycle so we were excited to explore San Jose in this way. Our tour guides Laura and Alex were absolutely fantastic! We were blown away by their deep knowledge about the history of San Jose and Costa Rica. They took us through many different neighborhoods and past major monuments stopping along the way to share stories and interesting facts. We were hanging on their every word. They were such great teachers and so friendly and funny and kind, it was fantastic! The two highlights of the tour were stoping at Modo Cafe and El Fronton. Modo Cafe is a beautiful, contemporary cafe situated inside an adorable gift shop. The whole space was fresh feeling, beautiful, and cozy. We were treated to a private coffee training and tasting where the owners Daniella and Felipe taught us about the different processes of beans and guided us through three different varieties. The coffee was delicious and we were so impressed. Daniella and Felipe were kind, fun and absolute experts. The shop has a lot of cute gifts and beautiful housewares. El Fronton was our other favorite stop. The second highlight was a local mainstay serving empanadas since 1948 and these were the best empanadas we have ever had. We had never had empanadas made of masa or corn before and these empanadas were fresh, hot, crunchy and delicious! We were so thrilled with the entire experience and it was the absolute best way to kick off our trip.
Alex met us on time (we were 5 min late…sorry Alex) and immediately introduced himself. He remembered our kids names and spoke with them in a very engaging manner. The day after our tour our 12 year old shared many details he learned with family that I had already forgotten. The bikes were well maintained. Alex was very passionate and knowledgeable. He shared many historic spots with us that most tourists would never have found or even known existed! The empanada stop during a brief rainstorm, and the coffee demonstration were highlights of our tour! We highly recommend this tour!!
Pablo was great. He was knowledgeable and accommodated us well. We were tired at the end, but it was worth it!
Alex was great. He paced the tour well and we loved learning about CR history and culture. Would recommend for the adventurous types.
This was an outstanding tour. Our guide was knowledgeable about history, culture, art, food and had great stories to tell. He was flexible and eager to answer all of our questions. It was one of the many highlights of our time in Costa Rica and we highly recommend it. The riding was easy and not very far with lots of stops.
Laura was an awesome guide. Really showed us some hidden gems right in the heart of San Jose. From where to pick up cool souvenirs, to the best spots to eat and drink, Laura knows what is going on in San Jose. Excellent at helping us navigate through busy streets and she stopped at a lot of really cool and historical spots throughout while providing great details about each location. Really connected us to the past and present of this cool city and amazing country and kept us well fed along the way. Would do it again in an instant. Highly recommend for a day 1 activity on San Jose.
very nice bike tour . Our guide Erick was very knowledgeable and gave us a great tour through the city and saw many different cultural areas
This was an amazing tour. Our guide Alex knew a ton of history and also gave us a really good sense of current events and just how it really is to live in San Jose. I asked him to take us on a tour with not a lot of hills and he totally replanned the route to accommodate. We saw a large number of the famous sitting San Jose and he also took us to a traditional old empanada place and a coffee tasting. Overall an excellent y bike tour and great way to see San Jose in a few hours. Alex again was excellent.
A fun day learning about San Jose with Laura and Christian. Highlights were Empanada’s and Coffee tasting.
It was a great introduction for me and my wife’s first day in Costa Rica. The route was hilly at times, but easy enough resting at each stop. Alex was knowledgeable, personable, and easygoing. The empanadas were great too! Pura Vida!
Jorge was very knowledgeable about the history of San Jose. We learned so much about the culture of Costa Rica. He took us all around the city safely. The food stops were enjoyable. I would highly recommend this tour!!!!
The nature hike was truly incredible… Beautiful people beautiful birds, beautiful animals a lovely butterfly, garden and wonderful hosts not to mention a gorgeous campus.
We had a great tour with Alex. His English was excellent, his patience impressive and his knowledge was exceptional. He took us to see the most interesting sights in central San Jose along with a coffee stop and the Market which was a challenge as it was packed! We had a good lunch with him afterwards. A first class tour and thoroughly recommended.
This was a great way to see different parts of San Jose. I had never been in the "foodie area" where we tasted the coffee and it was very nice. We had our 13 yo son with us and he enjoyed it as well. The history and learning about the landmarks in the city was very interesting. We really enjoyed doing the coffee tasting and want to go back. The empanadas were so good and they had vegetarian options so that was lovely. Jorge was a fantastic guide! His english was amazing and he was knowledgeable about so many things whenever we had a question (about CR, San Jose, coffee, restaurants, travel, etc...). This tour would be for anyone who is fine riding a bike on city streets (the first few were in downtown so a bit of traffic to deal with). We would do it again for sure! Be sure to bring a water bottle (we refilled ours at the coffee tasting). Thanks for a fabulous day Jorge!!!
Alex was awesome! He really took the time to ensure we had an amazing experience. I am a hesitant cyclist and had no issues at all - I felt confident on the bike and with the routes taken. It was so great to try the local food and coffee and learn both historical and modern day facts. Thanks Alex for the great time!!
We wanted to get a sense of San Jose while being active and really got that. Paul was our guide, he was very friendly and knowledgeable. Stopping along the way, giving us information about the buildings, architecture, and history of the neighborhoods. Towards the end of the tour we stopped for empanadas and then coffee at two wonderful and unique spots. We truly enjoyed ourselves. Highly recommend.
Amazingly knowledgable and enthusiastic tour guide, from ants to a wide variety of birds and of course the sloths ! Better than a normal tour
Really enjoyed Alex's in-depth knowledge of the city and the history of Costa Rica. The bikes were good and helmets were provided. The bike ride was fairly easy which worked for us because I was recovering from surgery. I had the impression that Alex can adjust distance and difficulty based on riders. Alex also focused on our main interest, history. The empanadas were excellent, as was the discussion around coffee. San Jose is not a very bike friendly city, but after a few busy streets Alex took us into quieter neighborhoods. Highly recommended
Malo was our very friendly bike tour guide! He was very informative about the history and culture of San José. We stopped at a coffee shop to have an amazing Costa Rican coffee tasting at Encafeinados, and we ate our empanadas that we grabbed earlier. After the tour, he even went out of his way and helped us find some mosquito repellent we were trying to find. I highly recommend this tour if you are in San José!
Short time in San Jose so asked Roberto if he could do something special for us: combine cycling and walking. No problem. We went out on the bikes first. Initially very busy but once out of the initial road , it was calm. Alex suited the ride to my pace, stopping to chat and explain culturally what was happening and point of interest. A trip to the green market was extremely interesting as well as trying some local foods. A walking tour around the market and surrounding area then a stop a lovely quiet location amongst the hustle and bustle to try some coffee. Bought some lovely Costa Rican chocolate there as well! This was like a local friend showing you around. We really enjoyed!
Alex and Roberto were both wonderful to deal with, knowledgeable and friendly. They keep the tours intimate and unique. The ride was fantastic. We learned about the culture, art, history, architecture, and politics of San Jose. What a delight! The food, drinks, and atmosphere were fantastic. We even saw two sloths within the city limits. We highly recommend a tour with this group. ChepeCletas got it right. Thanks for everything!
San Jose is fairly limited in sites to see but this was a very good way of doing it. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable and I would highly recommend him.
Excellent tour of San Jose! Juan and Roberto were very kind and knowledgeable. The tour was laid back and the coffee was excellent! Would definitely recommend.
This tour was perfect for us. We were comfortable biking in a city and around cars. there were some narrow spots, cobblestones, and these precipitous gutters at some points but if you're used to riding in a city around cars you will be fine. The bikes were in good shape, brakes and gears worked well and they gave us all helmets. The best part of this tour was how much of the city you got to see and the tasty street food near the hall of justice. The guide was fantastic! Really knowledgeable and nice. He really loved showing the city to all of us and we saw so much more of it than we would have walking. We even got the privilege of seeing a sloth in the city, which was a real TREAT! Do not hesitate, if you like bike tours this is the one for you.
We had a great time on our bike tour. Our guide, Malo, was really wonderful. He took us on quite an adventure. He recognized that we were pretty experienced riders, so we took a bit more difficult route in order to go to a beautiful park. He peppered the trip with history and information about the city. Our trip ended at a very nice coffee shop where they explained the growing, brewing and exporting processes of Costa Rican coffee.
This was such a great tour! Sadly I can not remember the name of the gentleman, but he was very knowledgeable and fun to talk to. We ended at a wonderful craft coffee place that explain the coffee harvesting methods and gave very accurate tasting notes. It was perfect.
Malo was my guide and he was not only a lot of fun, but very knowledgeable. We ended the tour at an amazing coffee shop (which unfortunately I can’t remember the name of) and they explained their coffee process. The coffee was delicate and floral with hints of blueberries. A perfect end to a wonderful tour.
