Our guide was Alex and he was very kind and knowledgeable. Cautious but efficient driver too. The trip was great as we saw the capuchin monkeys in wild, such a peaceful and serene experience! Then went to a local restaurant and our food concern/choice was taken care of, without any problem. Monteverde forest was the highlight of the trip, with amazing guide there too. It was an amazing experience through the forest and hanging bridges.

Itinerary
Explore the Amazing Cloud Forests of Costa Rica on this Monteverde Tour. Your tour starts in the morning when you get picked up from your San Jose area hotel and you will then travel towards the Northern Part of the country on a very scenic drive, with great views of beautiful mountain ranges, local towns, farms, and the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. On the way to Monteverde, you will also enjoy multiple stops to see most of Costa Rica. Stop briefly at the largest fruit stand of the country, where you will learn about a huge variety of tropical fruits.
Continue your tour with a stop at Caldera, where you will visit a place where many white-faced capuchin monkeys are normally observed in the wild at a remarkably close range.
Take great photos of amazing landscapes on your way up to the Monteverde Mountains, a couple of stops will be made in look-out points where beautiful views of the Nicoya Gulf and the Monteverde Mountain Range can be seen on clear days.
Once in Monteverde, you will savor a delicious lunch near the town of Santa Elena and then you will proceed to do the amazing hanging bridges tour in the Cloud Forest at Selvatura Park, where you will hike with your guide for about 2-3 hours admiring the beauties of this rare Eco-system and searching for the local wildlife, such as monkeys, emerald toucans, coatimundis, and the rare resplendent quetzal, the most beautiful bird of Costa Rica. This hike is approx. 3 kilometers long (1.9 miles) and it’s done mostly on flat terrain with a few mild climbs. Late in the afternoon, we will take you back to your San Jose hotel or we can take you to your centrally located hotel in Monteverde if you are planning to stay in that area after the tour.

It was a long day. Most of the trip was spent in a car ride. The trip started at 7am, and we were back at the hotel around 8.30PM. It was worth the long car ride. The trail we went to was phenomenal! It was a true rainforest experience. Our tour guide (Alex) took really good care of us. He was very kind and funny. The food was okay, nothing special. The survivor shop we went to after the trip was very expensive. Everything there was the same thing they sell at the airport. The car ride was very rough, so please be prepared lol. The only thing we didn't like was the first stop at the snack shops. It was way too long. It was about 40 minutes. I think that was unnecessary. We only have about 20 minutes to spend time with the monkey. If you are the type of person who loves animals and cares about nature, you will not enjoy Monkey House. Don't forget to bring a rain jacket!
Long Day for seniors pick up @ 5:30 home @ 8PM. Needs to find better stops with better bathrooms. We did have enough bathroom stops. Tour operator choice of restaurant did not provide the food we pre-order. I do not like subitutes as I am a diabetic. Would like to driver to stop occasionally for scenic stops. The tour guide was informative. But group moved along too quickly for seniors.Guide did not find any wild birds or animals. Will go UTube for info before going. Then take an Uber as we are group of three. Should have group rates. After watching UTube will plan my own trip.
The trip to the cloud forest in Monteverde was well worth it! Our guide and driver, Alex, did a great job, it felt like a small, personal tour! He made sure everything was going ok, made some stops to break up the long drive, and gave us a lot of interesting information about Costa Rica. Would definitely recommend!
All good Fantastic experience. Monkeys were very friendly and funny. Forest we will remember for ever It was so pretty Even weather was OK
This tour exceeded my expectations! The experience was fantastic, and I highly recommend it to others.
We enjoyed everything we did. Fernando was early in picking us up. He was entertaining from beginning until the ride back. It was a full and backed with activities. Thank you.
This trip was the best one we could have chosen! We got to see everything that we wanted to see and our tour guide Fernando was amazing! Definitely recommend!
Fernando was an amazing guide!the organization was perfect!we loved how engaged Fernando was!we received so much interesting information!and he was always very helpful!we enjoined our tour a lot !
It's an amazing experience with a very nice guide called Alex, could'nt ask for a better guide. Thank you very much ! We learnt so much about Costa Rica !
The Monteverde tour was great. We saw a sloth, two quetzals and a couple of other birds. The walk on the ground and then on hanging bridges with two guides (instead of one!) was very interesting and informative. We saw what the wild orchid looked like as well as the wild avocado. The nature was amazing! The lunch at the coffee plantation was delicious. We were lucky - it was sunny and warm, no rain at all. The whole tour was like a fairy tale. Great!
Monteverde is a beautiful place. The cloud forest is amazing with a lot of plants and wildlife. Bring a rain jacket just in case!
The trip to Manuel Antonio National Park starts early and ends at a comfortable time, though it is a long journey from San José. However, there are plenty of stops along the way to make it more manageable. Our guide, Augustine, was fantastic—he gave us space to enjoy the ride quietly but was also attentive and willing to answer any questions we had. He’s incredibly skilled at spotting hummingbirds, and it was wonderful hearing about his experiences. At the park, you get approximately three hours, with about 1.5 hours to relax at the beach and one hour for the trail, followed by lunch. Both breakfast and lunch were very good. However, keep in mind that the trip is lengthy due to the distance from San José, so it may not be ideal if you’re uncomfortable with extended travel.
Our guide Fernado was on time and very knowledgeable of the area! It was a fun experience and we enjoyed the stops, definitely a bumpy ride so heads up!
I had an incredible day trip to Manuel Antonio with Augustin and Derzu. They are both very nice people and had a well-organized tour with great food. Augustin, a super knowledgeable guide, provided fascinating insights into Costa Rica’s animals, plants, and culture. Totally recommend!
Wonderful experience The guide should have taken us there in the morning as it rained throughout the afternoon when we were there
Oscar and Carlos made the experience fun and very informative. I enjoyed learning about the process of making coffee and taking a walk to learn about the different species of plants in costa rica
We had an awesome fun filled experience. Augustine our tour guide and William our driver made me feel very safe and they were very accommodating. All of the experiences mentioned in the trip make it very worth the price. The waterfall super cool to see and the ziplines were thrilling. I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone visiting Costa Rica.
This tour was amazing. Agustine made it a very smooth tour. Very informative and friendly, would definitely recommend. 10/10 experience
Our tour guide Agustin was amazing and very knowledgeable. We had such an amazing experience and even got to see Sloths. I would definitely recommend scheduling a tour with him 10/10
Loved it. Agustin was a great guide and the driver was good. A lot of value for money. We saw sloths, iguanas, hummingbirds. Zip lining was a lot of fun and the rapelling as well. The hot springs was also a nice paradise. I'd definetly recommend this tour
Augustine was a great guide! We saw beautiful animals from hummingbirds to sloths to iguanas. Highly recommend this experience!
Had a great time on this trip. Got picked up on time, Oscar our tour guide was very warm and knowledgeable with lots of information about Costa Rica and its people, flora and fauna. Made interesting stops at all the places mentioned in the tour posting, and another one at a coffee plantation just before lunch. The hanging bridges trail was breathtaking as expected, we were with Carlos, a different but equally outstanding tour guide for this part of the trip. It is all together a long day trip though, we left San Jose around 7am and didn't make it back until 7pm, so be prepared. Honorable mention to our driver William as well. Wonderful experience all around
Wonderful trip, the guide on route to the cloud forest was very informative and happy to give you space as its an early start. The guide at the cloud forest was excellent at spotting hidden animals, which would likely be impossible without guidance as they're so well hidden! Monteverde feels like such a unique setting, with its bridges that take you across the tree tops. Bear in mind this is a very long trip (left at 6:30am and got home at 7:00pm) but well worth it to see Monteverde.
Good day trip! Provided lunch which was lovely, if a little early. The tour round the hanging bridges even came with a guide which was unexpected but added to the experience. Alex the driver gave lots of information about the country whilst driving between stops.
It was good I enjoyed all the stops . However lunch is an hour diversion from Monteverde which felt very unnecessary especially given how much time you spend in the bus as it is . The food however yes was very good . The guide at the hanging bridges was exceptional but again there was waiting around there for other groups . It's good but I feel like it could be better organised to maximise time off the bus.
Very beautiful trip. Our guides, Alex and Carlos were amazing. Worth the money and transportation time! P.S. the included lunch was decent in a nice location
Very good trip to the hanging bridges. Tour guide Alex was very friendly and helpful along thw way teaching us some things about his country and a bit of Spanish. The included lunch was good. The guide provided for the hanging bridged was also very knowledgeable and made our time there fun (Steven). Only downside to the day is the long travel time however there are some stops along the way to make it more comfortable and I would say that the day is worth it.
The whole trip was great. It was a long day but very interesting. The driver and guide -Alex, was very good, very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful all day. We stopped off to see monkeys in there own environment, stopped off to look at lovely views and an amazing lunch, with lots of choices. The guide Carlos at the montverde bridges was also great, he was very knowledgeable and helpful too. A great trip all round. 🙂
Fernando was awesome very educational and a pleasure to be around his knowledge was very good Spending the day was very enjoyable
We had a wonderful time with Kenneth and Louis. They were very pleasant, knowledgeable and accommodating. Kenneth shared a lot of information with us and they kept us laughing and entertained. We highly recommend this tour. You won't be disappointed. There was so much we did in one day!!
What a fun day! The tour was accurately described as outlined in the description. It was a long, but worthwhile trip. Kenneth and Luis took great care of everyone on the tour. Just as an example of Kenneth’s above and beyond service, at the end of the tour when people were dropped back off at their respective hotels, he would turn on his phone flashlight to make sure they didn’t leave anything behind in the van. Now that was an unexpected attention to detail. He was very knowledgeable and patiently answered everyone’s questions. He took the best photos during the trip using his monoculars for iPhones and airdropped them to everyone on the tour. Shout out to Luis for his great driving skills and dedication to safe driving. Thanks “chicos” for a great day!
We had the best time! Our guide was top notch and helped us throughout our experience with excellent knowledge of the area including the rich history. I would definitely recommend this.
We had a fantastic time. Our tour guide, Fernando, was knowledgeable, charismatic and reassuring. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience or a better guide. We would definitely recommend.
Fernando is a great tour guide. He explains everything very clearly and makes it fun & easy to understand. After this trip, I know a lot more about Costa Rica, its flora & fauna. The monteverde hanging bridge tour is worth going. It is a great place to experience Costa Rica's biodiversity.
Great excursion! Fernando, our guide, provided interesting facts on Costa Rica which entertained us on the drive up. He had everything planned so everything went smoothly. Choice of restaurants for rest stops was excellent. Definitely will recommend to our friends.
Excellent tour and the casado lunch was delicious! Our guide Fernando was amazing! Even while sitting in traffic he entertained us and had a fun way of teaching us about the geography and history of Costa Rica.
It was a great tour, the hike in the forest and the hanging bridges was beautiful (I’m not comfortable in heights so didn’t look down much but still), only thing is that you spend more time in the bus going to the location than actually doing the activity (it’s 2h long in the forest so it’s still good though), but if you want to stay in San Jose and want to do the cloud forest, then it’s a great option
Harlem and Randall are extremely helpful and knowledgeable about Costa Rica. They make the trip fun and memorable
The bridges experience in Monteverde was amazing which was with Monteverde Cloud Forest guide (Joshua). He was separate from this company the tour was with. I would not recommend this trip advisor tour for a few reasons. 1. Drove total of 1 hour extra to restaurant which really added to trip and not necessary. 2. Monkey place was someone's back yard and not a very nice place. 3. Omar our driver while polite spoke on phone a lot of trip and stopped for himself to get a snack after had stopped at a market a while before that. 4. The fruit stand was just a side place on side of street and did not learn about any of the fruits. Overall: Did not meet expectations.
Juan was absolutely amazing on our tour. It was a perfect day, we were only on this side of the coast for one day and man did we feel like we got our moneys worth! He is a wealth of knowledge, friendly, kind, and has the best recommendations. He truly loved showing us his home country. It was a gorgeous drive to an awesome destination with lots of stops on the way!
When it pours with rain BEFORE the walk begins the tour should not continue. Our original tour booking was amended before we began, the sky tram was added. Itineraries were very similar and the price was kept for us as we had booked. Our driver arrived looking very disheveled but he showed up and off we went. He didn't talk much. We stopped at the tour office briefly before heading out to the tour. The drive was long, of course, the location is a long distance away from the city. We did NOT make the multiple stops promised for scenic views. And we definitely did not stop, at Orotina, at anything that looked like the largest fruit stand in the country. We stopped at a regular looking fruit stand by the roadside. Lunch stop at Cafe Horizonte was enjoyable - two of the 5 of us in the bus wished to have fruit instead of cooked food but were required to pay for a full meal. Not good. There was a gift shop and wash room there, so we took advantage of those facilities. Finally headed to Selvatura Park, yet another long drive. We may have driven for 10 of the 13 hours of this tour. We did the sky tram first, a tranquil, calm and uneventful experience. It was lovely being able to look down on the treetop canopy below. We saw a couple vultures in the trees. By the time we finally got to the highlight of the tour - the hanging bridges and hike through the forest - the weather had turned rotten. A heavy tropical downpour had started. We had light rain coats, but none of us was equipped for the amount of rain we experienced. The guide was. So he headed off and we followed. A family of 5 with young children begged off early on and returned to base. Lucky for them. The children would never have survived the rain storm for another 2 hours. We who remained we were shown a small but venomous green snake, wrapped on a branch, which had eaten so was in sleep mode. We also saw some caterpillars under a leaf, and thirdly a tarantula in a nest hole. That was the total for animal and insect life in 2 1/2 hours. What we did see was drenching rain falling on lots of leaves and trees. To be honest, like others in the group, I would have been happy to cut the tour short, end the freezing wet experience. The guide was oblivious to our great discomfort and pressed on. Walking the hanging bridges was therefore not the great experience it undoubtedly is in better weather. I was glad when the tour was finally over - could get to the gift shop to buy a change of clothes!! Prices were exorbitant like at airports, but I had to get out of sodden and wet and in to dry before the 4 hour bus ride back to San Jose. We got stuck in San Jose's infamous traffic at a toll bridge entering the city, not moving for about an hour, allowing the five of us on the bus to become allies and friends. That was the highlight of the tour. I would not do this tour again. I also recommend that if the weather is raining heavily like it was, the 2 1/2 hour hike should be cancelled and a partial refund of money offered to clients. What was meant to be one of the highlights of my visit to CR was a forgettable mess.
I was really excited to go on this tour, especially because we hadn't yet seen monkeys and this day was our last in Costa Rica. In the tour description, it was advertised we will "stop in house of a Costa Rican lady where we normally observe lots of playful white-faced capuchin monkeys, she has the ability to call them and they normally come in big numbers to her backyard, where they usually play around on the bushes and fruit trees." This lead me to believe that we would be inside and simply watching the monkeys interact with their environment. In reality, we pulled up to a house where our tour guide and another man called for the monkeys. It was incredible to watch them all running toward us. And then the man started feeding them and handling them. Our tour guide as well as a man who (presumably) lived there, encouraged us to hold and feed the monkeys. This is not responsibly enjoying wildlife. I was happy to observe the monkeys, one of them actually jumped on me because they expect humans to feed them so much. Our guide was actively taking pictures of others in our group as they let them monkeys climb over them. This alone is enough for me to give this tour one star. I did not go to Costa Rica to exploit wildlife. Our guide at the Hanging Bridges was excellent (although I will rate him on a different review, as it has nothing to do with this company), who showed us rare birds through his telescope and helped us to find it ourselves. In the delicate ecosystem, we were able to enjoy the fauna and ensured that it stayed wild. I was also disappointed about the pickup time. On the website, it says it will pickup from San Jose at approximately 7:00am, we received a text the night before telling us our shuttle would be there at 5:40am. We got back home around 8:00pm, so all in all we were gone for about 14 hours. This is a very long time to only have one meal included. Other tours I went on had two meals included for tours of this length. I was happy to see the start time listed as 7:00am so we would have time to grab some breakfast before the tour started, but this was not possible due to pickup being more than an hour before stated. I have seen in the company's responses to other negative reviews that they say approximately on their website, I do not believe 80 minutes is an approximate measure. We only had one pickup after us and there were only the two groups on the tour, so this was not due to needing to pickup at several hotels. Further, while our guide was bilingual, he mostly spoke Spanish with the other tourists. No problem, I'm in a Spanish-speaking country, of course he would want to speak his native tongue!! However, on every other tour we went on with other companies, the guides went out of their way to ensure that everyone was able to understand, repeated questions from tourists in both languages, and frequently checked for understanding. We got an occasional "ok, ladies?" for most of the four hour drive. He may have been saying more to the other tourists, but I honestly received about as much information about what we were driving by from a shuttle driver (who was NOT bilingual) that I had booked up to La Fortuna the previous day...along with an unexpected stop at a fruit stand and some delicious juice the driver purchased for us. Traffic was particularly bad on our way up to Monteverde (not the company's fault!!) so we had to stop at the fruit stand at the end and it was a little eerie to be on the highway in the dark. This was also not communicated to us at all. The tour guide may have let the Spanish-speakers know, but I didn't even know we were still stopping at the fruit stand until we pulled up on the way back to San Jose and our guide said where we were. All in all, it was a pretty underwhelming tour and I will not be booking with a company who does not respect the fragile ecosystem of this beautiful country and want to warn other travellers about what their money is supporting. The Hanging Bridges are gorgeous, but you can stay in Monteverde or rent a shuttle up there and have a wonderful tour of the cloud forest at your own leisure. Value-wise, I would book with a company that costs around the same, encourages tourists to keep their distance from wildlife, and includes an extra meal in there. And to pre-empt the response that I see is very common for this company, what I'm saying can be true, even though you have several other five-star reviews. I am sharing the facts of my experience, which may have been a blip! The mere existence of other positive reviews does not negate the experience I had with your company and it certainly won't sway my decision in booking with you in the future. Please reconsider making this stop at the monkeys and encourage visitors to your country to enjoy its beauty in its natural state.
First of all, this is a whole day experience. When I mean all day, I mean ALL DAY. Our tour guide, Harlem, with the driver as well were wonderful to us. We were the only people who signed up for this activity and they both made it fun and informative. Talked about the town history we passed by and ensure we stayed on track for the day. Both guides are fantastic and ensured a safe trip there and back despite the heavy rain we experienced coming back to our hotel. I highly recommend this activity, you will be taken care of and have fun!
The tour was fantastic Juan Carlos is amazing as a tour guid and bird whisperer. He was able to mimic bird sounds and attract them to the view sights. Unforgettable experience!! Highly recommended!
The park deserves 5 stars, but i rated overall experience with the driver. We had the trip on April 28, just me and my mother, there was no other turists as it was already end of dry season. Although we were only us in the trip, the driver was not flexible at all: we started the trip at 6.20 and at 11:30 we were already at lunch, although I mentioned several times that it’s too early and we would prefer to have it after we visit the park. Lunch was ok, food was fresh, but location is poor, so lame - he said we are on a coffee plantation, but it looked like abandon bushes, low quality, felt like a joke. We saw a REAL coffee plantation on the trip to Arenal, there is no comparison between the 2. The one we visited in this trip was awfull, the guide barely found 2 green beans to show us!!!! Remove it from your trips, it’s not worth it, people should see real coffee plantations, not dry bushes!!! The trip ended at 15:30 (very early, although we still wanted to see some more). The guide drove back to San Jose thinking maybe that he was in formula 1 competition, like a mad man. He wanted to get back in San Jose as fast as possible and he abandon the main road, instead he drive on a mountain ( he called it Avocado mountain, don’t know if it’s true), with many serpentines and the mini bus felt like flying! I was really convinced that we will fly off the mountain to earch curve he took with maximum speed! And it was foggy!!!!!! Who hired him??? I should have reported him to the police, but it was our last day! I think his name was Fernando, but not sure, but this can be easily checked with the provider!!!! Awfull experience, hate it every minute of the trip and could’t wait to finish it! Fire that mad driver, you put turists lives in his hands!
As advertised but not worth it for the price, you are only essentially paying for a private shuttle to Monte Verde. You are sitting in the van for nearly 10-12 hours so be prepared. We got to Monteverde by about 11am and for some reason we kept driving to a place 2 towns over (45 mins) for lunch, instead of just eating in Monteverde. This was a 1.5hr round trip waste of time. You only get 2 hours in the cloud forest on a guided tour. Also the roads back down from the mountain are extremely bumpy, not good for anyone with a bad back. Really not worth the price as they only pay for an average lunch, a guided tour of the cloud forest and your transport there.
Really enjoyed our trip with Juan. He made our experience really wonderful and we enjoyed the rainforest so much.
Our hike through the hanging bridges was fabulous & fascinating, though challengingly steep at times (for a senior citizen!) General feedback to visitors….you should be prepared for your tour to last up to 2 hours longer when traffic is bad, as it was for our group.
Loved the cloud forest hike! Our driver Juan was great and accommodating. Lunch was good and the views were beautiful. Bring bug spray!
