Walk the paved trail of 3 kilometers (1.8 mi), which will take you to the base of the La Paz waterfall. This ecological park, with a height that varies between 1,200 and 1,500 meters (4,000 to 5,000 ft), is home to a wide variety of wildlife and plant species. Picked up on time. Comfortable ride and the guide is knowledgeable of the area and of the park we visited. He guided us through the park and ensured we covered all the important places. The lunch was okay nothing to write home about.
Absolutely gorgeous! This is the best place to go if traveling to San Jose. The drive is not too far. At La Paz, there are beautiful waterfalls, rainforest trails, gorgeous animals and birds, and colorful flowers. This place is worth returning to.
We visited a local coffee farm and stopped at a strawberry store before the animal rescue and water fall walk. Seeing the park was the highlight and an excellent lunch. Mario was are guide with a great driver he even stopped for a sloth in the trees.
Experience was amazing. Fantastic place to visit and lots to see. Be prepared for a lot of stairs and be sure to have a ride out
Everything about the trip was fantastic! We were picked up on time and immediately handed a bottle of water. Our guide was knowledgeable and personable. He shared great information about the plants and animals, and was engaging in all of our locations. Sharing information while keeping kids and older adults excited and interested is a gift, and Mario definitely has that gift!
Best experience ever!!! The guide Harlem was so knowledgeable, kind and friendly The car was big and clean Everything was perfect ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Beautiful gardens and our tour guide was very knowledgeable and personable. He made it fun. The lunch was good.
Excellent. Our tour guide, Harlem, was really knowledgeable, friendly and would answer any question. The tour was punctual, relaxed and suited the group. I would really recommend this tour.
Wonderful tour but only saw rescue animals and none in the wild which I was hoping for. The waterfall was spectacular.
Wonderful trip! Our tour guide couldn’t have been any better! Would recommend anyone hands-down!
This was a great trip. It was great to be picked up at our hotel. The guide was very knowledgeable. He shared a lot along the way to the gardens. They stopped along the way to purchase food, gifts and coffee. The Garden was beautiful but it rained the whole time. I didn't feel confident in the rain to hike the waterfall. The included buffet was good!
My visit to the beautiful bird park in Costa Rica was a wonderful and unforgettable experience. Walking through the lush tropical surroundings while seeing so many colourful and exotic birds up close felt truly magical. The park was peaceful, well maintained, and beautifully designed to reflect the birds’ natural environment. I especially enjoyed observing the vibrant toucans, parrots, macaws, and other native species while learning more about Costa Rica’s incredible wildlife and conservation efforts. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about protecting the animals. Their care and dedication made the experience even more meaningful. It was the perfect combination of nature, education, and relaxation, and one of the highlights of my trip to Costa Rica. I highly recommend this experience to wildlife lovers, photographers, families, and anyone who appreciates the beauty of nature.
Beautiful walk along the waterfalls. Enjoyed the butterfly exhibit, toucans exhibit and the humming birds.
Wonderful day trip from San Jose with Arturo and Marcos. The drive to La Paz was stunning and the waterfalls were incredible - impressed by the safety of the stairs and pathways.
The excursion itself was very good. the operator was not able to give us the approximate time of arrival the day of tour on the day before. Just gave us half an hour notice on the day of tour.
Very nice fall , if you stay close to San Jose then you should go see the fall .
La Paz is beautiful! Lots to do and see in a relaxing environment! Beautiful scenery and lots of amazing wildlife to see. Our guide, Harlem, was fantastic and knowledgeable. It’s definitely worth the trip!
We had an exceptional experience from start to finish. Our tour guide Edgar was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating, making everyone feel welcome while sharing fascinating insights about the area. The pace was perfect, and they went above and beyond to ensure everyone had a memorable time. The destination itself was absolutely breathtaking and even more beautiful than we expected. The stunning scenery made every moment worthwhile. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for an unforgettable experience.
Beautiful experience. Harlan (tour guide) was amazing - kind and knowledgeable. He knew many of the staff and because there were only two of us we had some lovely encounters other larger groups would not have. Highly recommend. And bring a raincoat or poncho!
Driver and guide were great. The waterfall hike has a lot of stairs for those who might have mobility issues.
Excellent tour. Nice scenery with lots of animals to see. Best butterfly habitat I have visited so far. Our tour guide (Ricardo) was friendly and very knowledgeable. Highly recommended...
It was exceptionally amazing tour! Edgar or “Super” Edgar was our tour guide. It me and my friend with one other couple that went. He explained the terrain and history as we drove along and with much surprise, he stopped at a coffee plantation so we could experience a little bit of the area. We had to cancel our Brit Coffee tour due to scheduling conflicts. I was very sad and so because of what he did, I was sooo happy!! He was so patient and knowledgeable. He was always explaining things about the falls and making sure he took plenty of pictures of us. It was just wonderful! Highly recommend this tour and “Super” Edgar as your tour guide!! Thanks again Edgar if you see this!! Tabitha and Betty
Great experience and great guide!
This was an amazing full day tour. The La Paz facility is an amazing place. My wife and I enjoyed the Wildlife Refuge at the facility and waterfalls were amazing and just stunning. The lunch at the La Paz resort restaurant was great. Our tour guide keep us, Harlem was awesome and very knowledgeable about La Paz. We arrived there safely and got back to our hotel safely. This is a tour everyone should take. You will enjoy it.
We were in awe! Costa Rica is a beautiful country. We had a small group, only our family of three and another couple. The pick up from our hotel was prompt and the entire trip very relaxing. Our tour guide started narrating as we drove to the Poaz volcano and La Paz lodge. Everything was green and the weather was great. We made a stop at one of the coffee shops overlooking the mountains. The view was awesome! We also purchased coffee beans from the place where they harvest and roast it. Can't wait to taste it but from my coffee experience in Costa Rica, every coffee I drink is delicious and caffeine level somehow is low that one can drink it at night and still get a good night sleep. We saw wildlife. That was incredible especially the butterfly garden. Stopped at the lodge for a buffet lunch that is included with the tour. After lunch, we took a 40 min walk to the waterfalls which was really fascinating. There as a lot of steps on this tour but it was not too difficult as the pacing is really good. There were many steps going down to the waterfalls. I thought we had to climb back up and that gave me anxiety. Tour guide should have told us that a van will be picking us up at the bottom to return to the lodge. On the way back to our hotel our tour guide knew we were so tired that he did not bother us while we were all dozed off. Overall a wonderful experience!
This is how we spent our first day (ever) in Costa Rica and Roger was the perfect ambassador. This tour has it all - culture, food, flora, fauna and ...fun! If you can, start your trip with this tour - it's the perfect transition into pura vida.
My 19 year old son and I had a fabulous time exploring La Paz Waterfall Gardens and Wildlife Refuge with our fantastic Costa Rican driver & tour guide, Nelson! I would highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to see a cloud forest, waterfalls, and rescued animals up close near the SJO airport. Nelson picked us up from our hotel in the morning, drove us safely while telling us about San Jose and the surrounding area, Costa Rica, history, coffee, customs, and more. He gave us a fabulous tour of the butterflies, birds, frogs, monkeys, sloths, large cats, orchids, and the waterfalls. My knees weren’t up for waterfall #3 and #4, but Nelson and my son met back up with me soon after. I loved seeing the toucans up close! Nelson is very knowledgable and it’s evident how much he enjoys sharing about his amazing country with us tourists! (One of the La Paz staff helped me take great photos of the snakes.) Nelson took several photos of my son and me with the waterfalls, birds, and animals. (No selfies on this tour!) La Paz is a beautiful spot! We thoroughly enjoyed our day! And have many great photos to take home with us! (We had a small waterproof backpack, light-weight rain jackets, & breathable, waterproof hiking boots as we visited the rainforest during the rainy season.)
Our guide, Mauricio was very friendly and knowledgeable. We had a great time at the La Paz Waterfall and Garden tour. We did this at the start of our trip. We wanted to at least see some of the animals native to the area in case we were not able to see them in the wild. I was quite happy that we did not run into any large cats outside of an enclosure. This day did not feel too long. There was a stop on the way to and from the gardens.
Lots of stairs, but worth every step! A gorgeous jungle with 5 bridges over the canopy. Stunning views and lots of plants and wildlife to explore. Our guide Kevin (5 stars) was so knowledgeable and was an expert at spotting wildlife. I highly recommend this excursion.
The experience itself was fabulous. The whole place was absolutely breathtaking waterfalls were amazing. There are a lot of steps to take to see them. Our guide Wilding was fantastic.Very knowledgeable about everything there. Would highly recommend
This is a very beautiful area to visit. Be prepared to walk alot. Lots of steps up and down. Wear sunscreen!
Roger was an excellent driver and guide. He provided lots of information about the sites we visited and fully explained the different habitats.
Pouring rain so a bit tough. Tour guide, Edgar, was great! Disappointed to see animals in limited cage environment, but liked nature preserve and waterfalls.
Tour is listed as wheelchair accessible but only part of the tour is wheelchair accessible. The hike down to the waterfalls is not at all wheelchair accessible, despite assurances of Viator. The description of this tour needs to be updated. Also, the buffet lunch was only fair.
What an amazing place! Robin made our visit with the Toucans extraordinary. Everyone treated us so well. We were offered little taste treats at the “homestead” exhibit. Everything was clean and mellow. Cannot say enough about all the exhibits. Fell in love with the cats. Would come back again no problem!
It was a very nice trip the guide was great the weather was good and the park was beautiful and as expected. Take note: To see the complete park, water falls, and animal, hummingbirds bird and butterflies it takes 600 steps combined to go down and up though not all at once but some visitors will find it too much of a challenge. Overall I give it 2 thumbs up.
the return to the top is very very very steep and strenuous. The directions to return aren't very clear either.
Our guide Roger was great, really knowledgeable, explained all in details and answered all questions. The visit at La Paz Waterfalls is an unique experience, you make contact with butterflies, toucans, frogs and much more. Our lunch was included a buffet with great options.
This tour was a great experience! Our tour guide, Roger was very kind and passionate about allowing us to have a memorable experience. Before arriving to the waterfall, we made two stops along the way to get coffee and wine. Both places allowed us to also buy souvenirs. The lunch was SOOO GOOD! Very fresh and delicious. Toward the end of the trip, there was a lot of walking and climbing steps so keep that in mind when booking
This experience allows you to see a lot in a short period of time! Highly recommend it for anyone who loves animals.
Harlem was so wonderful and gave a great tour. We had lots of fun seeing all the animals and waterfalls!
Our tour guide, Mauricio, was awesome. We had so much fun! The wildlife refuge was so much and the waterfalls were amazing!
Quite a bit of stair walking, but it was beautiful. Great knowledgeable guide, and the driver was great.
We really enjoyed this tour and the views are breathtaking. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes.
Had a great time, my guide was very nice and I really appreciated him, although I am forgetting his name at the moment, all these other reviews I’m reading complaining about early start times or walking to much are in my opinion, sissies. I had a wonderful and memorable day
We started with a change of pickup from 8:30 to 10:30 and honestly this was great. After picking up at other hotel around the city we began the journey - it takes a while. We then stopped and changed busses and met the guide who drove us the rest of the way. It was an incredible tour of the animals, decent lunch, but by far the best were the waterfalls. The sheer beauty and power of nature on full display.
Was so great, our guide Mauricio was amazing, the driver was really experienced and the whole travel felt safe, fun and educational. The stops were well planned and the guide made sure that all our needs were covered. La Paz Waterfall Garden is beautiful and so big, the buffet lunch was delicious. I truly recommend this experienced to everyone
This was a lovely day. The guide was great. Very friendly. Knowledgeable. The shuttle van is air conditioned and comfortable. Brief tourist shop stop en route but the La Paz waterfall park is a special place. If you’re limited on funds you can probably uber and just do this on your own. But it is nice to have a guide and not have to worry about driving. We had amazing weather. The wildlife are all rescues. Educational. Beautiful. Built into nature and the rain forest. The waterfalls are very special too. Enjoy! Would bring friends or family or partner back here.
The waterfalls are beautiful and paths are well maintained. There are elevation changes to see the different waterfalls, but good handrails everywhere. The wildlife refuge was great with many animals, birds, frogs, butterflies and serpents to see. A wonderful travel experience.
