We loved our horseback tour of Aquiares coffee farm! The horses were tame and we were able to relax and enjoy the scenery. Thank you to our cowboy guide, and our knowledgeable Aquiares guide Andrew!!

Fantastic afternoon with Ezekial (Gato) and Cowboy Chris. Packed with fascinating facts on the local flora & fauna and coffee plantations as we were taken through the stunning foothills. The horses were easy to ride even with minimal experience. We stopped off at an impressive waterfall and tried some coffee beans whilst Gato gave us some great info on the coffee making process. Once back in town we were treated to the delicious coffee, pancakes and fresh fruit. A truly special afternoon as a family, one we’ll cherish for many years to come! Pura vida!
Fabulous! Wonderful coffee farm working with nature- shade tolerant trees under the canopies of large native trees. We all loved riding through the hacienda with the fab staff. Thank you.
The tour was fun and we learned so much. Everyone was exceptionally kind, the views breathtaking, and the coffee was the best! Our three kids (ages 8, 12, and 14) loved it.
Amazing experience, super nice guides, well trained horses and beautiful waterfalls!!!! Can absolutely recommend to adults and kids.
If you are looking for a unique experience that combines culture and horseback riding, this tour will leave you in awe. I highly recommend it! The entire experience was truly amazing. We went horseback riding to a waterfall, passing through coffee fields, forests, and a village. Afterward, we returned to a charming farmer’s house for a quick snack, along with coffee / hot chocolate. The farmhouse is authentically Costa Rican, filled with character and charm, and beautifully designed with many unique pieces of furniture and art.
The tour was fantastic. Our ride through the coffee plantation on horseback was relaxing and the Aquiares Waterfall was magical. Our guide Andrew was very knowledgeable about coffee and fun facts about Costa Rica. We had a very lovely morning and at the end we got to try some delicious coffee grown and made right there at the source with an assortment of fruit and handmade bread. I was skeptical that this would be fun for my 6 year old but she absolutely loved it. I highly recommend this excursion.
Experience Aquiares Coffee Farm My husband and I did a 4-hour horse riding afternoon tour. We decided to take a public bus from San Jose to Turrialba. I discovered that public transportation in Costa Rica is safe, organized, efficient, and very affordable ($3.00 one way for both of us). We got to enjoy the scenery during the two-hour trip. We were received at Casa Hacienda La Esperanza with a delicious home-grown and brewed coffee, bread, and fruits before beginning our ride through the coffee farm. Next time, we have to stay a few days at La Esperanza as the place is truly beautiful. The best asset of the tour is the wonderful people who received us. Our guide, Andrew, was friendly and very informative about Aquiares coffee farm, the largest in Costa Rica. Christian, who guided the horses, was very patient and also shared information about the coffee country. We got to see the waterfall, river, church, community, and the coffee shop (buy coffee there!). We truly enjoyed this experience; it is highly recommended.
The entire experience was amazing! My two friends and I booked the horseback tour and lunch. The views were stunning, and our tour guide, Andrew, was the best! He was very knowledgeable and funny. We got to see a waterfall and take a quick dip in calm water near it (bring or wear a swimsuit underneath your clothes). Lunch was delicious, and we ate outside to continue to enjoy the beautiful views. Can't wait to come back!
This was one of the relaxing events I did while in Costa Rica. The guides was very informative and super friendly. The light lunch at the end was amazing, and so was the coffee.
Everything was as described the best part for me was the waterfall and the dinner but please note that the dinner isn’t included with the tour you’ll have to request it after tour but they do have drinks and fruits that you may have before and after your tour starts that’s included with tour they treated me like I was at home I really enjoyed it and would definitely come back.
The experience was amazing. I would 100% recommend it. The guides were very friendly and told us some interesting storys. The nature was beautiful.
Among many options Aquiares is the best of all. We were glad to choose them. We highly recommended them The guides ,thru all horseback riding across the Finca, were exeptional. I would love to be there soon
Great ride. Andrew y Cristian were very helpful and professional. My wife isn’t an avid rider and she did great on the horses. The whole trip was amazing. My wife liked the waterfall the best. I like the whole trip.
We loved our tour of the farm, my daughter especially loved riding the horses, who were very well cared for and easy to ride. The end of the tour at the hacienda with coffee and cake was perfect, the setting is amazing. We only wish we would have booked a stay at the hacienda because it was so nice.
We did the horseback riding tour, which was lovely. The Aquiares waterfall was a highlight (bring your swim suit if you want to take a dip!). Our guides were super friendly and shared so much information. The seating at the restaurant afterwards was breathtaking. I wish we could have stayed for lunch!
A big highlight of our trip to Costa Rica. The house is beautiful, the grounds are like the garden of Eden. The staff was so unbelievably pleasant and kind that it felt like you were staying with family. We did the 4-hour horseback tour and our guides, Andrew and Christian, were extremely knowledgeable and just an overall great hang. The views were stunning— it felt like a tour of paradise, including the scenic waterfall we detoured. Only regret was not staying long enough and as soon as we got in the car to leave we felt sad to depart. Can’t praise Aquiares enough—will definitely return here for an even longer stay.
Great horses and guides would highly recommend this tour the trip to the waterfall was very good we also got cake and coffee and fruit complen
Traditional snacks and coffee at the Hacienda to start with. We were staying there already so it wasn’t out of the ordinary as we were very well fed every day! Calm and seemingly unflappable horses; beautiful views; lots of lovely photos to take home. As novice riders we felt safe and even somewhat confident! Caesar our tour guide was full of information - but it’s a lot to take in while concentrating on riding 😉 - and Christian, the stable manager, led the way making sure the track was clear. Andrew was learning the ropes of being a tour guide so we were very spoilt for attention. This is more a tour of the whole coffee plantation with information about the growing and harvesting of the bean rather than learning about the bean to cup coffee making process.
Cesar and Christen were our horseback ride guides. They took us on a magical tour of the coffee farm along the way sharing the history of coffee and this very special place. We made two extraordinary stops along the way where we appreciated the unique mountain setting and fantastic views. The last time we were on horseback was many years ago. No issues with our guides they were very kind and patient we never felt out of control with these well trained horses. And if that was not enough, we enjoyed a wonderful multi-course luncheon in the historical inn that decades ago provided overnight accommodations for traveling coffee buyers. The lunch was a real treat on an outside veranda overlooking a beautiful garden. Everyone of the staff we encountered made us feel welcome and special. And the coffee at the end of our meal was delicious!!
Tour guides were amazing, so friendly and knowledgeable. So much fun seeing the coffee farm on horseback. Wonderful tour.
This was a great tour through the coffee trees learning the process and all about the landscape. Being on horseback makes it even better. Our guide knew a ton and was eager to share everything he knew.
First things first.. If you are traveling in from the city, use the app Waze to get to the Coffee farm. We did not and traveled through the mountains in the most unconventional way. The experience was STELLAR, we arrived late due to issues listed above and the staff waited on us politely. The staff introduced us to the horses and told us all the safety precautions when riding horses. We began the tour and the guides were extremely friendly, he even offered to take pictures for us and gave us a detailed history of the farm including all that they do in the local town. After the tour we were served the BEST coffee we had ever tasted accompanied by a serving of fruit grown locally on the farm. As we sat there conversing, one of the guides asked us if we wold like lunch before heading back to the city. We accepted and we were served such an amazing traditional Costa Rican lunch. Rice, beans, chicken and plantains. This was the best experience we have had in Costa Rica and will highly recommend if you are visiting the country, or even if you live locally.
What a great experience, would highly recommend. Everyone was super friendly horses were very well mannered. We took the horses to the waterfalls and through coffee fields. We got to sample the coffee, it was unbelievable
What a lovely day~! The coffee farm is amazing..the horses were sweet...the waterfall was fantastic and cooling to be near...and the guides were super kind and well informed, about the history of the farm, how coffee is grown, and some of the history of the Indigenous people from the Aquiares area. Am still enjoying the coffee I bought at the store. Very worthwhile.
A coworker and I had a great time with Wilman riding horses, enjoying some homemade cake and coffee, and learning about the entire process of growing and processing coffee. It was an amazing experience!
This tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Costa Rica. Being avid coffee drinkers we were keen to understand more about what goes into our favourite drink. We really enjoyed being shown around the coffee farm and waterfall. Willman, our guide was very informative and answered all our many questions with a smile. He also pointed out lots of wildlife along the way. We felt safe on the horses and had a memorable experience.
What a unique way to view the beautiful grounds! You immediately are greeted by your increíble guide and enjoy an excellent coffee while exploring the charming house. The horses are extremely friendly and calm so any level of rider should feel comfortable. The tour includes a nice easy walk around the land and a quick trip down to view the waterfall/river. My partner and I found it the perfect level of informative and relaxing as you learned the history of the coffee plantation and surrounding community. Ending with an ice cold glass of flavored water, cool towel, fresh fruit, cake, and endless coffee (I had 3 cups!) was the cherry on top. Our guide and the whole team that helped along the tour were incredibly friendly and made this a tour I would absolutely recommend. Bonus tip: if you want a great lunch in the area ask the guide he gave a fantastic recommendation for a spot 15min away with some of the best food and views I had my entire trip in CR. Thanks for everything!
We truly enjoyed all aspects of the tour. The horses, Lucero and Bellota, were well-trained and guided by a very professional man named Christian, and our tour guide Randall was excellent and very friendly. The owners were extremely hospitable and knowledgable about the operations. Wilman's tour of the beneficio was thorough and informative, and we really enjoyed the coffee samples and the snacks provided alongside them. The hike down to the waterfall was steep but brief, and we even got to hear a little bit from Randall about how the riverbed itself is being affected by climate change, which gave us a new insight into the area. We would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone looking to learn more about the coffee production process in Costa Rica (although the views alone are worth it!).
This was a great tour of the Aquiares Coffee farm. Our guides were amazing and the sights were breathtaking. After your time out on the horses you’re greeted with a nice refreshing local drink, coffee, fruits and baked goods. If you’re staying in San Jose it can be a little hike out but it is well worth the commute!
What a fantastic tour! Well organised, friendly and professional staff, a lot of information during the riding, beautiful views,.. They really take care of their horses. The snack after the riding was amazing: a huge plate of different fruits (each!), banana pancakes, smoothie and of course delicious coffee. The hacienda made it even better.
Everyone was so fantastic! So knowledgeable and the property was gorgeous! The horses were so great and easy for beginners as well! You must go!
Great, leisurely horseback ride through the coffee plantation. The guides were attentive and knowledgeable. It's a wonderful experience and don't forget to buy the coffee. It is superb.
The private tour was amazingly amazing! Highly recommended! Great tour guide. First class all the way. Great accommodation and fresh food on the table 👌⭐⭐⭐
It was our first time on a coffee farm and one of our first times on horses. From meeting in the morning we felt immediately comfortable with the guide, Celia, and the other guests. The first few moments on the horses took a little getting used to but the guides were very aware of everyone and quick to step in with a calming hand or words. The farm is absolutely beautiful and this was an amazing way to see it, from down by the waterfall all the way up to ‘the big tree’. Can’t recommend this tour or coffee farm more highly! If you don’t want to ride horses just coming for a walking tour or tasting will definitely be worth it. Thank you to Celia and all the others who made for a wonderful day!
When I got to Turrialba, I talked to other tourists and realized that rafting was unanimous among all. Few, however, knew this wonderful tour provided by the aquiares coffee. The experience is incredible and I would say it is as essential as rafting for those who go to Turrialba. We were greeted in the morning by a fantastic guide (Celia? Don't know if i spelled it right) at a breakfast filled with fruit, biscuits and, of course, coffee. The ride on the horses was perfect. Extremely relaxing and packed with historical information from the region and the coffee farm. At the end, we were able to buy the delicious coffee produced in the region. Gratitude to those who provided this unforgettable experience.
We had such an amazing time with Pinto, Estrella, and Acorn. Celia and Calin were incredible at explaining the plantation and answering all of our questions and the landscape and waterfalls was so beautiful. It was a wonderful experience.
We met Celia at the Hacienda for a lovely breakfast and a very informative discussion of coffee beans, harvesting and marketing. This is the largest exporter of coffee beans in Costa Rica, furnishing beans to companies like Starbucks and Nespresso. After admiring the beautiful garden, we were introduced to our horses. Nice slow ride thru some amazing country side, including the fields with the workers picking and even a waterfall! The processing plant was also a well informed part of the tour. Celia really knows all about coffee and shares an enthusiasm when sharing her knowledge. This was a very enjoyable experience and certainly a unique village with quite a history. Very, Highly recommended.
This tour was worth every penny! It's based in a small town of approximately 1,800 residents. The horseback riding lasted between 3 and 4 hours, with stops along the way to swim in a waterfall (bring a swimsuit, we forgot!), to visit a viewpoint above the village, and to tour the coffee mill downtown. At the coffee mill, we really got to see the process up close. They process coffee beans in 3 ways there, and we were guided through the greenhouses and machineries of each. We ended the horseback ride at the house of the owners of the farm, where they gave us coffee and snacks (sandwiches and fresh fruit). Overall, the tour was an incredible way to see a beautiful Costa Rican coffee farm, and the guides shared lots of information and answered all of our questions along the way. Perhaps most importantly, the horses are clearly well cared for. My friend who went with me has horses, and she could tell that they were well trained, well groomed, and well fed. They do have personalities, though! Mine would often stop to eat, which required some control to curb. Because of that and because of the amount of time spent riding, I think people who are already comfortable on horses will enjoy this tour the most, but the guides are definitely equipped and ready to help guests of any experience level.
We don’t usually to touristy things like this, but this was really amazing! The views are incredible and the trek can really only be done with a horse. I had never ridden a horse before but the guides were helpful and it went very smoothly. Be ready for a long ride on the horses.
Absolutely amazing!!! Delicious breakfast followed by a beautiful ride into nature. We completed the ride with a tour of the coffee factory. Learned so much! My kid's (11, 8 and 5,) loved it! We felt safe the whole time. Denise, Nelson and Mr. Johnny fantastic tour guides!
We did this tour (couple from Europe) mid June. We chose the 1pm start and had very nice weather. Beautiful farm, very nice and gentle horses and great scenery. Guide was very friendly and it was great to see the coffee plantation and hear all the stories about the coffee production. It's basicly two tours into one, great price for what you get. Coffee, cake and fresh fruit afterwards was delicious. Recommend it for anyone
It was simply phenomenal! The guide is super sweet and has great knowledge about the coffee plantation and also the biodiversity all around.
Very nice ride, we were 2 we could take full advantage of the explanations by Andrews. Christien was able to educate his hair with his finger and the eye, they are adorable. I highly recommend the experience it was great.
It was a beautiful experience! The horses very well kept and meek for inexperienced people. The very friendly guides
All activities and venues far exceeded our expectations. La Scenic beauty, the warmth of all who welcomed us, the locals, the animals, the food and the affection. Thank you very much.
This trip is something very special! The guides are all so friendly and make a lot of effort! The horses are looked after very well.
Hello I was at Hacienda Aquiares this weekend doing a horseback ride with my family. We spent one of the best days in Turrialba, the estate is a Show , the staff who attended us outstanding in interpersonal relations, transmitting knowledge and stories and ensuring an unforgettable walk for the whole family. In these times of COVID all safety protocols were applied and respected, we felt very calm. Highly recommended thanks to Carli, Wilman, and other partners of the Treasury hope. Thanks to them we know a little more about the history of this beautiful country.
We had a great time! We were very well received by passionate people. Our guide was perfect! Of a kindness! Everything was beautiful! We will not forget this wonderful moment in Costa Rica! Again Thank you:D
A fantastic tour, nature, beautiful mountain and rural landscapes. They welcome you to the Hacienda house, a gem of place with lush gardens and friendly and warm staff. The guide Denise and Don Cali, the horse manager are extremely professional and strive to explain every detail of the history of the estate, the coffee activity of the area and its relationship with the community. Most recommended!
