This was a really great tour, i haven't been on a horse in the last 15 years and thought i'd give it a try again, and it was absolutely worth it. I was quickly given a refresher and on we went. The ride to the ruins was so scenic and very fun. On the way there the local wildlife was pointed out to us, and when we arrived at the ruins we got an in depth Tour that left no information to be desired for. We were also told about local plants as well while we were there. And then after the tour the ride back was just as enjoyable. We went a bit faster on the way back, after out guide asked if we wanted to. Sue (guide) stayed close to me during that to make sure i stayed on the horse, as i was the least expirienced horse rider of the group, and gave me helpful tips and gentle reminders. 10/10 would recommend this tour

My boyfriend and I had such an amazing time. We were able to ride along the river, see some beautiful sights, and we even saw some monkeys! Our tour guide was so knowledgeable and nice. We later went to Xunantunich with our tour guide, Carla, and we learned so much about the history of these gorgeous ruins. Carla is an amazing guide. We could listen to her talk all day. She's very passionate and will make sure you have a great time!
I got the greatest horseback riding experience ever! My tour guide Carla gave us great information about the nature, horse riding and ruins. You can learn so much and see very beautiful views in the tour. Great recommendation
We had a wonderful experience! Our guide, josé was knowledgeable, funny, warm, and went above and beyond to ensure we had a great experience! He even dropped us off at our shuttle location to ensure we would get there on time!
We had a great time with Jose and Rod with the horseback ride and tour of Mayan ruins. Super informative and had lot of fun interactions. Highly recommend them
Wonderful experience for the price! The Wranglers are top notch, extremely knowledgeable. If you have never ridden a horse before, this is the perfect place to start! They match each horse to the person’s size, age, weight and experience. The scenery riding to the ruins is peaceful, beautiful, full of wildlife and easy. Even the owner walked alongside us, the entire time, giving us valuable information about what we were seeing. Once we arrived at the Ruins, we had her as our licensed tour guide. She is Mayan and is extremely knowledgeable about the history and culture of the Mayan people! Highly recommend this tour!
This experience was definitely a highlight of our trip to Belize. Carla, our guide was wonderful in showing my kids how to ride and she was ver knowledgeable. She share information about the site in a way that was very relatable to all of us. I highly recommend their services. Carla was able to draw my introverted son out to ask questions and she made my daughter who is not the biggest animal person throughly enjoy the experience.
It was a great experience. We loved the guide, the horses and the trail. Our guide was so friendly and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend it.
We had a wonderful experience with St. Leonard's Easy to find. We arrived before the others in our party and were met by Rod and Mark- who spent 20 minutes or so entertaining and informing the four of us in our family (16 year old and 14 year old). They were very kind and we learned a lot. When everyone else arrived, we were given horses commensurate with our abilities, helmets and lots of water! The 8 riders were accompanied by 3 guides- so we were always safe and entertained. Other than me, no one else in my family had experience with horses and my wife was apprehensive. At the end of the tour, my family was so happy with the horses and the experience, way beyond our expectations. The tour at Xunatunich was excellent- Carla was very informative. She took good care of all of us, making sure we were always resupplied with water. We didn't get to see any monkeys- but they had been in the area. I would say, a great ride if you are looking for a safe, easy ride to the ruins. The horses look to be in great shape and are well cared for. Choose a different tour if you are into a bigger riding experience. The Xunatunich tour was excellent.
Excellent experience! Good horses, knowledgeable fun guides. Our kids are 5.5 and 8 yrs old loved it! they provided helmets. Hand cranked ferry was a fun bonus. Highly recommend!
We had the best horse back riding tour with Jose!! I would do it again in a heart beat. A beautiful trail along the river, to a small hand cranked ferry that you get to cross with the horses. And then after a beautiful ride, you get to walk through the Xunantunich ruins! Jose was a great guide on all fronts and had great horsemanship as well. You are in good hands! Highly recommend this tour, it was my favorite!
We did the farm ride and it was perfect for beginners and intermediate riders. The hike to see the Mayans ruins was hell but I would have rather do it on foot than go by horseback… THE VIEW WAS WORTH IT!
We had an amazing experience overall to say the least. First, due to floods in the area, the Xunantunich ruins were closed, we were offered couple of options by the St. Leonard’s Tours, including a refund. We went with alternative tour in another Mayan ruins in the area as well as horseback ride. Second, overall tour was very well organized. Third, the tour organizers were responsive and accommodating, they found an option for us to do the later tour, as we were arriving to Belize too late to start 7:30 am regular tour. Last but not least, our guide Jose was attentive, knowledgable and very funny. Really recommended, we had so much fun! Thank you, St. Leonard’s tours for such a memorable day!
Booked a horse back tour to Xunantunich with St Leonard's Tours beginning of May. We had 5, 'sort of', done this before horse riders. Jose' was the lead and fitted us extremely well to our horses and their demeanor. They walked; we rode. They pointed out sights along our route to the ferry and then the site. They gave us a little history, stories of the animals, trees and birds. Once at the sight, similar info was given, what had occurred here, how it came to be in the condition now etc. Jose' had a working knowledge, not just a memorized scrip to follow. He was able to answer more probing questions too. All in all a highlight of our Belize trip. Jose' and his group were fun, entertaining and we highly recommend this tour.
It was such an amazing day ! 100% recommend. Elio was an excellent guide, we had so much fun and we learned so many great things. Thanks again for that experience !
We’ve been on a lot of tours around the world and Rod was one of the best! It’s hard to put it into words what a great experience it was.
We had a great time on this trip and would absolutely recommend it to all levels of riders! We were one intermediate and two novice riders that had no troubles on the ride. The horses were well trained. Our guide was very knowlegeable of the area with personal experiences to relate and did a great job guiding us on the hour and a half ride from the stables then down along the river and up to Xunantunich. It was a beautiful ride through the jungle along the river where we saw iguanas and spider monkeys and tasted allspice leaves. The tour was personalble and small which allowed for nice conversations. If you like horses this tour is a great way to see Mayan ruins.
Just an incredible experience! They are very knowledgeable and we walked away as a family of 4 learning so much about the area and the history of Xunantunich. I definitely recommend this to adventurous families who love horses and history!
The horseback riding tour to Xunantunich was an incredible experience! Carla, Miguel and Mark are great guides that picked out each horse for our group based on our experience & comfort with riding and created the perfect pairing all around. I felt perfectly safe in their hands and felt even more confident to ride despite having minimal prior experience. The horses are well mannered and well looked after. The pick up and drop off to my accom was also super convenient and the guides are very knowledgeable about the Xunantunich ruins, and safely guide you up the climb to the top of El Castillo pyramid with cool water bottles always at the ready throughout the tour. It was such a highlight of my trip. I cannot recommend them enough!
The day with Carla, Rod and Miguel was our favorite day of our Belize adventure. My husband, and 3 year old daughter met them at their stables for a private horse ride through their farm/ jungle along the river. We were introduced to Belizian history, taught about the flora and fauna. Our 3 year old LOVES horses and Miguel was so wonderful with her. We then transitioned to a tour of Xunitunich with Carla. We learned so much about the Mayans at our pace with no pressure. Carla even introduced us to stingless bees! Carla and Rod have children of their own and were perfect with our 3 year old and helping to make sure we all has a wonderful time. St Leonard’s horses appeared very cared for and our favorite am Appaloosa! Thank you for spending the day with us and making our trip so special.
We loved this outing! Carla was so knowledgeable about the area and was patient with us as we did not have much experience with horses. The area was beautiful, the horses were well trained and the Mayan ruins were quiet and impressive. We couldn’t have asked for a better time.
Amazing experience for our whole family! This is a great local family run business. We learned so much at the Xunantunich Maya ruins, Carla was a great guide and had incredible knowledge to share about the area. The horseback ride along the river was beautiful, and we were lucky enough to see howler monkeys. The family was so friendly and accommodating. We highly recommend Carla and her family:)
My daughter and I did the horseback ride from Leonard's Stable to Xunantunich. Our guides were Joseph and Miguel. We had a beautiful ride through fields to the trail along the river. When we arrived at Xunantunich Rod met us there and he was our guide at the ruins. He was very knowledgeable about the Mayan ruins. Carla was great in answering our emails and setting up our booking. When we got back to the stables Rod had one of the local Belizeans shuck us a coconut and we drank coconut milk then ate coconut meat. It was a nice way to end the day. I would highly recommend this stable.
We had a pleasant ride through the area on horses all the way to the ruins. Sunscreen and bug repellant are a must! We seen so much wildlife, iguanas, howler monkeys, other monkeys, lizards, and birds. The guide was great, full of knowledge and made the trip intresting. Highly recommend
2 of rode horseback from their farm to Xunantunich. Our guide Carla was superb! She was very knowledgeable and made the whole experience as easy as possible (for 2 people who've never ridden before). I highly recommended these guys for this adventure!
Disclaimer: I only did the Farm Ride with Carla, but I didn't see that tour listed on here. So this review is ONLY for the glorious afternoon I spent horseback riding on Carla's farm. Carla changed my life. I had wanted to go horseback riding for some time, but always had a little fear of horses. When I got to the farm I was excited, but I started crying when I saw the horse I would be riding. I was ready to go back to my hotel and tried to tip Carla anyway, but she wouldn't accept it. She just talked to me calmly and let me cry out my feelings. She suggested I try another horse. The other horse was a little bit shorter and I immediately felt better. Instead of riding her own horse throughout the tour she walked alongside my horse and helped lead him. Those couple hours of riding and talking to her was THERAPY. She talked to me, advised me, gave me some wisdom and pointed out all the beautiful plants to be seen on the farm. The land is incredibly beautiful by the way! She asked me about my terrain preferences and checked in with me the whole time. I gained so much comfort during the trail and halfway through she saw that I was much more comfortable and helped me do a fast walk with the horse. It was so fun. I felt safe the entire journey. When we got. back to where we started, she had me get on the original horse I was supposed to use. I felt safe enough to do so and it was incredible to face this fear I had. I am forever grateful to her.
First, Carla was prompt in answering my email inquiring about her horseback riding tours. The day we decided to ride was well into triple digits and sweltering so we decided to take a shorter ride, which was the Kiksadee Trail ride. Rodolfo and his son Mark took my daughter and I out and enjoyed the scenery as we went thru the valley and along the river. We saw Iguanas and hoped for Howler monkeys too, but we had to settle for the Iguanas. What made the experience great for us was Carla and Rodolfo were so hospitable, Rodolfo is a great riding teacher, and they both had great senses of humor. Would highly recommend using for any tours that they advertise. We know we will be back!!
I honestly could not imagine a better afternoon than the one we spent horseback riding with Carla! I called her the night before, and she was able to squeeze my three-person group in last-minute for a tour of the farm the next afternoon. The prices were very reasonable. Carla met us with the horses and provided bottled water and granola bars for our ride. She helped us arrange our things in the saddle bags and mount our horses. She picked out the perfect horses for each person in the group (experience, height, even personality!). One of my friends was relatively new to horseback riding, and Carla made sure to keep her close and help her feel comfortable. At the same time, she gave us an opportunity to trot the horses, which hasn't been an option on other rides I've been on. The area is really beautiful, and Carla was able to point out different landmarks and identify plants for us. But the best part of the trip is really Carla--what a lovely person! She immediately feels like an old friend. If we had stayed for another day, we would have gone back to hang out with her and the horses again!
My friend and I originally booked the Horse back riding to Xunantunich, with cave tubing tour, but due to heavy raining with flooding, we were only able to do the horse riding (on the farm grounds), and we were taken to a smaller local ruin (Cahl pech) that was also fun. Carla was very accommodating and John (our guide) was fantastic and very knowledgeable. The guys from St. Leonard's Stable were also great. Carla was able to adjust the cost accordingly and John did an awesome job to make sure we still had a good time. Our day tour ended with a delicious local meal from Benny's that was some of the best food we had on our entire trip. We would definitely tour with them again!
