Fantastic experience on the Gourmet Ghost Tour in North Beach! Dale was an amazing guide who went well beyond three hours, sharing fascinating stories and little-known history about San Francisco that made us realize how much we didn’t know about the city. The ghost stories were intriguingly spooky, and doing the tour on Halloween made it extra special! Great food, engaging storytelling, and a memorable evening. Highly recommend, especially with Dale!

Itinerary
A Stroll Through the Past: With a ghostly chill in the air, we’ll embark on a brisk historical walk through the neighborhood’s hidden corners. Along this path, we’ll peel back the layers of North Beach’s sinister past that still haunt its streets today.
Our gourmet ghost tour starts with a haunted visit to the San Remo Hotel’s restaurant, the area’s oldest and eeries restaurant. Here, we discuss the resident ghosts while sampling the Italian fair.
Our next destination is the iconic Washington Square Park, where we’ll taste focaccia bread sandwiches at a beloved bohemian gem.
We stop outside North Beach’s most venerable landmark, the Saloon. This time-honored establishment traces back to the 1800s with stories of kidnapped sailors not to be missed. Note of caution: 21+ and older to enter.
Here, we don’t just savor slices; we delve into the cheesy history of pizza, offering a delightful and tasty interlude. Our most lighthearted stop of the evening.
Here, we learn a more modern ghost tale, ripped from the headlines in the 1980's.
Full, we embark on a short journey to mysterious Chinatown. We’ll explore additional haunted locations in its labyrinth of streets.
Here we learn stories of the famous poets who walked the streets of North Beach including Bob Dylan, Jack Kerouac, and Lawrence Ferlinghetti.
Our haunting journey culminates with a dessert stop at a local watering hole renowned for its ties to the Beatnik era. Note our dessert location is subject to change.

Robert was a great tour guide for our family. It was a fun, entertaining, and informative experience and I highly recommend the Northbeach ghost gourmet tour. The calamari was the best ever!
Robert was amazing! We had a great time and felt like we weren’t just getting a tour but a hometown tour. We walked in and he knew everyone and they called him by name. It just made the whole experience so personal! I would pay double to do it again with him. Perfect amount of time and amount of food because I’m stuffed to the brim
As long time San Franciscans, we thought we knew this city- but this tour gave us a whole new appreciation for it! The evening was the perfect mix of fascinating local history, entertaining spooky stories, and incredible food. Every stop offered something delicious, and there was more than enough to go around. Our guide was fantastic and experience was both informative and fun. We loved seeing familiar streets through a different lens and hearing stories we’d never heard before. What a fun night out! We’d highly recommend it to both visitors and fellow locals looking to experience SF in a new way!
This tour was so fun! I was excited to hear the ghost stories, as I feel they help make a neighborhood more memorable and stimulates my imagination. These stories did not disappoint, especially hearing about Shanghaiing practices in dark alleys. The Italian food on the tour was quite good and I’d definitely go back to try some more!
Robert was very insightful and fun to hear from! He was very accommodating to difficult food restrictions
This free tour offered by San Francisco City Guides took me around a 2-squared- block area of North Beach. I learned about the Italian community and how it is reflected in its churches, eateries, and watering holes. Guide Audrey focused on some of the more popular businesses and on the history of the main locales. It's a good tour for visitors new to the area but I think local residents would enjoy it as well. Audrey kept the tour interesting and personalized it with a bit of her family history that livened the narrative.
This a great casual walking tour focusing on Italian cuisine with some local ghost stories added in. Dale was awesome and knows the area well. Definitely recommended!
This was a great tour. All of the food was amazing and I’d go back to any of the restaurants again to eat on my own. Marcy was very knowledgeable about the local history and different ghost stories. It was a great evening.
Our tour guide Marcy was amazing! I live in SF and I learned so much about the city because of her. Her story telling skills were top notch and she knows how to throw a party. I would definitely recommend this company for your group or private group tour needs.
Marcy was so fun! All of the food was incredible. Would do this tour again in a heartbeat! What a great way to get to know such a cool neighborhood in San Francisco.
My wife and I were hosting a friend from London who was unfamiliar with San Francisco and curious about American Halloween, so we thought that treating her to a Gourmet Ghost Tour would be a perfect fit. And it was! All three of us had a marvelous time, one of the most delicious and memorable evenings I've ever had in San Francisco. Our tour guide, Dale, did a terrific job of acquainting us with North Beach's colorful, surprising, and occasionally spooky history across a leisurely walking tour that showcased the neighborhood's many interesting nooks and crannies. This tour is unmissable for anyone who likes Italian food, especially the hidden gems and old-time establishments that might be easily missed on a more conventional itinerary. Everything about the program was perfectly executed to a tee. Definitely highly recommended!
Hauntingly wonderful! I've lived in SF more than 50 years and was surprised how much history I still didn't know. Our guide, Robert, was entertaining as well as deeply versed on the well-documented "facts" and also on the compellingly similar "hearsay" about the ghosts that have visited their haunts over the ages. Fascinating! We were well fed along the way, from the 1906 Hotel San Remo's luscious shrimp and calamari to Mario's delicious eggplant panini, Mona Lisa's crusty Margherita pizza to Cavalli's melt away tiramisu. Hold those ghosts!
What fun! I took the North Beach tour, and as a Bay Area resident who admittedly doesn't spend tons of time walking around San Francisco, this was a great way to get acquainted with an area that has lots of great history, and lots of great food! The tour was informative, our guide was really pleasant, and I'd recommend this as a way for folks to experience the city up close!
It was really a fun tour. I love all the history connected with North Beach locations. It’s fun to hear about the Ghost Stories and imagine those times. The food was delicious. Marcy was a great storyteller and was entertaining and friendly.
Our tour guide Dale was incredible and the company was so generous to let us still go after a friend dropped out, so it was a small tour but absolutely packed with great information and really tasty food! He really took his time to loop us in to the history of San Francisco and the food was incredible. I will definitely go again.
We had a fantastic time on the food/ghost tour. Dale was the best guide we've had on any of our tours and he went above and beyond to make sure we had a good experience. It was like touring North Beach, eating, and chatting with an old friend rather than a tour guide. The food was delicious and the ghost stories about each location complemented the tour well. This tour is great for anyone, from families to solo travelers to couples - it'll be one of the best decisions you make if you visit San Francisco and was the highlight of our weeklong trip.
First, I was on a solo trip and received an email to see if I still wanted to attend. Very impressive. This trip was filled with fantastic food, stories, extra stops, and great learning through conversation. I have been on many food tours; THIS IS MY FAVORITE. You will not be disappointed.
We had Robert as our tour guide. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the area and the various ghosts too, of course. The food was wonderful. I was surprised at how much I ate without feeling too full (I suppose the walking helped). We hope to take another tour from you guys in the future!
The Gourmet Ghost tour was a delight! Even as a SF Native and Bay Area history buff, I was amazed by how much I learned on this tour! Great food, sights, and stories. Our guide, Marcy, was top notch! We had a ball!
As a born-and-raised San Franciscan, I was surprised by how much I didn't know about the ghostly legends in the city. The Gourmet Ghost Tour with Stretchy Pants Food Tours was a blast with friends! Our tour guide, Marcy, was fantastic - knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and had a great sense of humor. I loved seeing my city in a new light, and I highly recommend this tour for a fun, unique, and slightly spooky experience in SF. Even locals will discover new secrets and have a blast! Thanks, Marcy, for a memorable tour!
I had a blast! I'm an SF native and even I learned a ton of new info. Our guide, Marcy, did an amazing job. She was fun, knowledgeable and very interactive. The food was buona buona 😋. I would do this again with friends, family or coworkers. Highly recommend!!
My work team and I had the absolutely pleasure of participating in the North Beach tour with our guide, Robert. He was very knowledgeable and accomodating to our divergent minds and want for tour participation coupled with general cameraderie building. By the end of the tour, our bellies were full of delicious food & wine, our minds loaded with new knowledge and our 6th senses ignited. Thank you, Robert for a wonderful experience!
We had an event last night that went though the ghost history of North Beach, and saw these restaurant hidden gems! All the food spots were so great. It was such a fun tour and super educational/entertaining! :) Would definitely recommend to any folks who want to learn about the history and fun ghostly topics of North Beach!
What a fun evening! We were celebrating a friend’s birthday and since she loves ghost tours and Italian food, this was a perfect fit. The stops were a great mix of entertaining storytelling and yummy food. Robert is a phenomenal guide who was so thoughtful and knowledgeable. We even enjoyed a special birthday treat for my friend and another guest—complete with candles! Really couldn’t ask for more.
We took the gourmet ghost tour, which included locations in North Beach / Little Italy and Chinatown. Robert was our guide. He was knowledgeable on such a range of topics, especially San Francisco history and food - and of course supernatural phenomena in the area. We started at the San Remo Hotel with a lovely collection of appetizers, including gnocchi, calamari and focaccia. And we had three other great food stops along the way. We would rrecommend this tour for anyone, newcomers and locals alike.
Really awesome experience! Had a great time, saw some cool parts of the city + learned some spooky history and the food was delish! Thank you for a great evening @ Jacob!! Def recommend!
Robert was a great guide. Highly recommend! Super informative and interesting. Delicious food stops.
This place is not exaggerating when they call themselves Stretchy Pants - we ate so much delicious food! - but it was so much more than just dim sum and tea. Our amazing guide, Jacob, took us around Chinatown where we learned all about the neighborhood’s history in a fun and engaging way. I’d recommend this tour for tourists and locals alike, and hope to use them to tour another neighborhood very soon!
The guided tour of North Beach provided an insightful journey into the heart of San Francisco's Italian heritage, with expert narration that made the district's history and culture come alive. From tales of Beatnik poets to the best local eateries, this tour was a captivating blend of past and present.
Jacob did a great job on the tour. Lots of great food and San Francisco history. I highly recommend it
Thank you Jacob, for an amazing and insightful tour. Delicious and informative. The tour was so well balanced between food and wxplorstion
Jacob was an awesome tour guide! Was very fun and engaging and tasty. Would definitely recommend for any one.
Blair was a great host, really knowledgeable and friendly. Loved the clam and garlic pizza and Blair gave us some great recommendations - definitely recommend for anyone visiting San Francisco
Blair did a wonderful job- he was knowledgeable and personable. The pizza was tasty! The most impactful part for me was when a restaurant owner told me that Blair was the best host out of all the food tours. Thanks for the great tour Blair!
Blair was incredible, this guy knew the best pizza in the world. So much fun- do it and go with this dude
Fun experience seeing the city! The food and tour guide was great! Was a cool way to meet new people and learn the history of the city!
Blair is a fantastic guide. He is extremely knowledgeable as a San Francisco native. Highly recommend.
Loved the tour! Blair was a great guide, highly recommend! Skipping the line at tonys was a major highlight.
Such a great tour!!! Highly recommend for getting to know north beach! All the pizza was so good! Blair really made our experience special!
Blair was a great tour guide. I learned a lot and also walked away full! The pizza offerings were generous, and there was trivia at Tony’s. Getting a reservation at Tony’s was worth the tour alone.
Had a blast with Blair! We thoroughly enjoyed our time with one other couple and our guide Blair. Felt like we were out with friends for the evening which included three different pizza spots (5 different kinds of pizza), and an amazing cafe for desert. We had so much fun we all stuck together longer than planned. It was like saying goodbye to family when we parted! Highly recommend this tour as a great way to try several different North Beach Pizza places and pick a favorite for another night before you leave SF. THANK YOU BLAIR XXOO
Our tour was fantastic; the guide was so knowledgeable they blew us away with historical facts. Even in general knowledge about the city, there wasn’t a single question they didn’t know. The food was also fantastic, pretty sure I found my new favorite pizza place in North Beach, and they even gave us some other recommendations to do after the tour. I highly recommend Stretchy Pants Tours, and I can’t wait to book another tour. Whether you are with your significant other or friends and family, this tour is perfect for bringing everyone together.
Great tour! The guide and Kara were wonderful and the pizza was fantastic. Good food, nice small group and wonderful atmosphere. Would definitely recommend this tour for a fun thing to do in SF and get to taste some yummy pizza!
Kara and Jacob were incredible guides and hosts, and every stop along the way was rich, interesting, and most of all delicious! Jacob's knowledge of the area is amazing, and the fact that he has such strong roots in the neighborhood only added to the authenticity of the experience. It does not at all feel like a tour guide giving a pre-scripted account, but more of an exploration with a true local, and what these historically significant locations means to him personally. Highly recommend for anyone into seriously delicious pizza of different styles, and/or anyone who wants to dive into the fascinating history of North Beach.
My boyfriend and I are SF residents but honestly never make it out to North Beach so we thought this would be a fun way to learn more about the go-to spots there, while eating some delicious pizza! We had a blast! I loved hearing about the colorful history of the Barbary coast and the beatniks in SF too. We definitely will be back to Tony's for sure - hands down the best pizza I've had in SF and they normally have a 1.5 hour wait.... Our tour guide was super knowledgeable and fun. They put together a good medley of various pizza spots, a tiramisu place, and a couple of quirky bars, including a holiday themed one! Definitely a different Friday night than what we normally do, highly recommend!!!
Can’t say enjoy about how good the tour was. Blair, our guide, was engaging and knowledgeable about the local Italian history. The beer in the beginning was great along with the pizza from Tony’s was my absolute favorite.
Favorite part was the, of course, the food. However, it was a great time and we learned a lot about the local area, which I thought made the experience much better.
What a fantastic time! Our tour guide was a total professional when it came to telling us all about the city and the stops we made. I learned and ate a ton. Babe sure to come on an empty stomach because you'll be making several stops where you'll have several servings. Tony's pizza was our favorite stop, and the award winning New Yorker was the highlight there. Overall we had a ton of fun, I'd highly recommend this tour.
Fantastic tour that was very informative and featured great food. Golden boy pizza was exceptional. Blair’s expertise helped me to better understand the city of San Fransisco.
