San Francisco Private City Tour

We did a half-day private city tour of San Francisco with Pep Cearnal (the owner), and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our visit. I have generally found city tours to be a little routine, but this one was anything but that. Pep has a wonderful combination of deep knowledge of San Francisco and a very engaging, conversational style. She took the time to explain the history, background and interesting little stories behind the places we visited, rather than simply driving us from one sightseeing spot to another. We covered many of San Francisco’s principal sights and neighbourhoods, including Pacific Heights and some of its beautiful homes, Chinatown, Lombard Street, Union Square and the Palace of Fine Arts. Pep also showed us some fascinating locations connected with well-known personalities and Hollywood movies, including the famous Mrs. Doubtfire house and a home associated with Steve Jobs and his family. Her knowledge of the city, its neighbourhoods, architecture, people and history made the tour far more interesting than we had expected. What stood out even more, however, was Pep herself. She is extremely customer-friendly, warm, accommodating and very easy to communicate with. Nothing felt rushed or mechanical. She was flexible, attentive to what interested us and made the whole experience feel more like exploring San Francisco with a knowledgeable local friend than being on a conventional guided tour. Pep also has a very engaging personality, and conversation with her flowed effortlessly throughout the tour. By the end of the few hours we spent together, we felt we had not only seen San Francisco but had also understood and experienced the city a little better. We returned home to India with very fond memories of San Francisco, and Pep played a big part in creating them. We would happily recommend her and Alegro Private Tours to anyone looking for a personalised and enjoyable way to see the city.

My family went on the private tour service with Pep. Pep was amazing! We had 2 kids and needed baby car seat. She had no issue with this and car was super clean too. She explained very well on the history, knew great view points as well where lesser traffic and people. Overall tour was amazing because it was private tour and things could be adjusted based on our needs and time! Definitely recommend Pep! 👍

Pep was wonderful! She showed up on the agreed time, had a nice, clean and spacious vehicle and incorporated our schedule and break requirements since we had a 5 month old with us. We got to see many highlights of the city and the weather was beautiful as well! She spent extra time with us and made sure we got to see the Golden Gate bridge from the other side despite it being blocked by heavy fog on the city side. She was knowledgeable and had interesting stories to share about the different neighborhoods and it's residents. We highly recommend her private tour service!

Our driver Pat was very knowledgeable of the area and super accommodating. She let us stop and get out wherever we wanted and took lots of pictures of us. This is the best way to see a lot of the city in a short time.

City tour with Pep was really good. The weather didn’t really cooperate, but we were able to make the most of it. The view of the city from beyond the Golden Gate Bridge was the highlight. Highly recommend the tour and Pep as guide.

The weather was not great, so having a car to get around to the differing sites was a plus. We usually do walking tours but SF has too much space to cover. We went with PEP (our guide). She knew lots of the history and was willing to modify to what we wanted to do. Let us out for pictures. She took lots of pictures for us, it was like have a photographer too! She let us eat and shop in China town...we had a great time! Highly recommend.

We came to San Francisco to visit family and decided to go for a tour with Alegro. Our group consisted of 6 people, including children. We had such a lovely time. We live in Florida, so it was definitely a bit chilly for us, but we had a great hike and my children were amazed by the size of the sequoias. Pep is very knowledgeable and gave us a very comprehensive history lesson about the city. My children were too young to be bothered with this, so Pep was kind enough to take us to a playground where the kids could be free while we (the adults) continued to learn from her. I think this was very thoughtful of her and I appreciate that special touch. I also have to appreciate the fact that she gave us all completely water bottles. Great job Pep! Keep it up. Overall the tour was really great. I could write so much more! We will definitely be in touch when we come back to California! Thank you Alegro Tours!

Utter disaster and a disgrace. Do not use. Disastrous organisation Guide changed 3 times the night before and the guy who showed up was delightful but just a taxi driver with poor English and knew ZERO about SF. We immediately complained and then had to meet the original woman who was rather reticent about information and we’d read most of what we were told on Wikipedia. No cultural or historical knowledge. She offered a refund which I wanted half of as we did see Golden Gate but that did not make up for the waste of time and frankly I was worried she wasn’t well. Trip Advisor should not be offering this.

Great day exploring SF with Pep. She was extremely informative about this city and its history. And the views of the Golden Gate Bridge were awesome.

As we disembarked from our cruise ship we were met by a very friendly tour guide. On our tour we saw everything on our list along with a few other places. Taking this tour was a relaxing way to see and enjoy the city and all that it has to offer. We had numerous opportunities for pictures. Overall this was a very memorable experience for us. I would 100% recommend doing this tour if you want a comprehensive tour of San Francisco.

Pep Cearnal was a delightful host and tour guide! She provided an insightful tour of San Fran, taking us to each and every one of the various districts that make up the city of San Fran. She shared her knowledge of the city and encouraged us to stop and take photos of the many locations that we visited, as well as to graciously assist us in taking group photos of our family in some of those most highlighted sites. We thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon into early evening with Pep and would recommend her to anyone looking for a similar city tour experience.

We were 6 adults and so needed a larger car. We were set up with Effie in an immaculate Suburban. Effie was very knowledgeable, not only about SF but also restaurants in various parts of the city, and our other stops down to San Simeon. He was genuinely enthusiastic, and we got to see much and make a number of great photo stops. The 4 hours was perfect not to feel rushed.co

We started early with the tour as suggested by our very pleasant tour guide ,Pat,to avoid the traffic.It was educational and experiential.We only did not take beautiful pictures but we experienced passing by the golden gate and the crookedest street .Pat made us go down a very long stair walk which made us feel how it is to live in very steep hilly place.She introduced to us some of SFO’s icons like the young man who invented the .television and the lady who had the first breast implants.Not only were our eyes treated to the beautiful sceneries,our minds were also filled with so many trivias like the tallest building and the highest hill.Pat also made some suggestions as to where to eat and to buy touristy stuff.The big pleasant surprise,however,is George Lucas’movie complex.My son is a big Star Wars fan and he really enjoyed the Yoda fountain and the small museum of Lucas’ films.After the tour,Pat dropped us off to the endline of the cable car which we took to end our wonderful San Francisco city tour.Thanks Pat for being patient and for giving us a memorable tour.By the way,she also provided bottles of water and some snacks to keep us hydrated and to sustain our energy.

our tour guide called me to let me know she was double booked so she couldn't provide the service. Then she gave me the phone number of a driver to call to see if he could do her job. Anyway se also told me that my driver was not a good driver so I called him anyway and at the end of the tour he wanted me to charge for the tour that I had already paid in Viator. So it was very disappointment.

We’ve been to SFO a few times but this time was special. Pep is an outstanding guide, a wonderful human being, prepared and has a huge knowledge of the history of San Francisco. She is very caring, attentive, friendly and she went the extra mile to provide us with the best experience possible in this magical city. Thanks to her we learned a great deal and as a movie lover herself we had so much in common and to talk about while driving to our next spot. Pep from Alegro Private Tours took myself & my family on a very memorable tour of San Francisco. It was a full day of sightseeing from great views of the Golden Gate Bridge in Marin to the Chase Center (NBA arena) in the evening. We went to all of the known attractions (like Chinatown) & many of the unknown tourist attractions (like Jimmy Hendrix's old apartment). It was a great day & I would highly recommend her for any person or family who wants a full tour of the city in a comfortable car.

Pep is an excellent, knowledgeable and professional tour guide I have ever used. We toured the city and loved the breathing taking views of San Francisco from Marin Headlands. That was the most memorable part of the trip. For dinner we went to Delfinas restaurant. That was the best pizza I've had in a long time. I highly recommend Pep if you are interested in learning the history of each location and want to understand the context of the historical events. I plan to return to San Francisco and will book a tour with Pep!

We had the unfortunate experience to deal with Pep from Alegro Tours and Trip Advisor. My family and I booked a tour with high hopes of creating lasting memories, but little did we know that our experience would turn into a nightmare. Our scheduled tour coincided with a period of record-breaking flooding and relentless rain in the San Francisco area that lead to road closures. Understandably, it was impossible for us to make it to the tour location due to safety concerns and road closures. Given the extreme weather conditions, we reached out to Pep with Alegro Tours and Trip Advisor hoping for understanding and a simple resolution. To our dismay, the response we received was far from empathetic or customer-focused. Both Pep and Trip Advisor flatly refused to issue any form of refund. It was disheartening to see that they prioritize profit over the safety and well-being of their customers. The lack of flexibility and compassion displayed by Alegro Tours and Trip Advisor during this challenging situation is simply unacceptable. Any reputable company should recognize the exceptional circumstances that were beyond our control. We were left feeling frustrated, disappointed, and out of pocket for a service we never received. I strongly caution anyone considering booking with them to think twice. A company that shows such little regard for its customers during unforeseen circumstances is not one that deserves your hard-earned money. There are countless other tour operators out there who prioritize customer satisfaction and safety over profit margins. Save yourself the headache and choose a company that values its customers and understands the concept of genuine customer service.

Our driver was GREAT, However, We were given a driver and not a tour guide. He told us he did not give tours when I asked him what his usual tour plan was and how many tours he had given. We wanted to go to places he didn’t know of or know anything about. We basically just drove to spots we told him we were interested in going. Again, he was super nice but we could have gotten an Uber driver much less to take us to all the places. It also says tour comes with snacks. We got nothing and even asked because we were counting on that holding us over till lunch. He had no idea about snacks. There was more but too much disappointment to write about. I did contact the person who contacted me about driver and pick up prior to posting this, but I was not contacted back regarding my concerns. They responded very quickly prior to our tour. I assume from the no response that they are not worried about it. I might add that this is the first negative review I have e we had to write. We try hard to be fair and let people know when we get great service. If our time was good not great, we usually don’t write anything. People can have a bad day and again we want to be fair. This was just a company who apparently didn’t have a tour guide and just got someone (again very nice), to drive us around like an Uber driver. Definitely not what we signed up for.

Wow! Where to begin? We've just come back having enjoyed an amazing first visit to San Francisco. Pep was amazing, patient during the booking process despite my myriad of questions, extremely knowledgeable about San Francisco with so many titbits of information shared as we travelled around, and so calm and relaxed during the time we spent together. San Francisco was amazing but San Francisco as introduced by Pep was on another level. One word of advice, don't assume you just want to book a tour of San Francisco and leave it to Pep to decide where to go. Think about it first, as there are so many places to visit and unless you narrow them down then you'll leave her with an impossible task. If you do it's worth the investment of time and you'll enjoy, as we just have, an outstanding precious memory to treasure for years to come.
