Maria gave us one of the best experiences we had in San Francisco! Her foodie tour through Chinatown and North Beach was absolutely fantastic — a perfect mix of incredible food, rich history, and great company. She was so knowledgeable about both the history and current culture of San Francisco, which added so much depth to the tour. From hidden gems to iconic bites, every stop was thoughtfully chosen and absolutely delicious. We had plenty to eat with a wide variety of flavors — from savory dumplings to decadent Italian pastries. Maria’s passion for the city and its food scene really shines through. Highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to eat well and learn a lot in the process!

With your passionate local host, you’ll embark on a journey that’s tailored to your tastes, discovering hidden gems and authentic bites you won’t find in the guidebooks. After booking, your host will reach out with a short questionnaire to create your unique itinerary—whether you're craving dim sum, Latin street food, or Italian classics. Here’s a taste of what awaits:
Start your adventure in San Francisco’s bustling downtown, where your host will introduce you to the city’s history and food culture. Sip a local coffee or grab a sweet treat from a nearby bakery as you set the tone for a flavorful day ahead.
Step into the oldest Chinatown in North America, a maze of colorful alleyways and red lanterns. Sample authentic dim sum—think delicate Shanghai dumplings and fluffy BBQ pork buns—and visit the iconic Fortune Cookie Factory to watch these tasty treats being made by hand. Your host will share insider stories about the neighborhood’s culinary evolution and hidden food spots loved by locals.
Wander through the charming streets of Little Italy, where the aroma of freshly baked bread and simmering sauces fills the air. Indulge in Italian-American classics like handmade ravioli or melt-in-your-mouth cannoli, and learn about the deep-rooted traditions that make this neighborhood a must-visit for food lovers.
Venture into the vibrant Mission District, famous for its rich Latin heritage and unbeatable street food. Depending on your cravings, your host might take you to a beloved taqueria for tacos al pastor or introduce you to a hidden bakery where locals line up for the freshest pastries. Expect bold flavors and colorful murals along the way!
Wrap up your tour with insider tips and local recommendations at San Francisco’s iconic waterfront. Whether you’re keen to sample clam chowder in a sourdough bowl or watch sea lions basking in the sun, your host will ensure you have plenty of ideas for where to eat, drink, and explore next.
If time allows and your taste buds are still curious, your host can guide you through SoMa’s buzzing food truck scene, where innovative bites—from Korean BBQ tacos to vegan delights—reflect the city’s cutting-edge culinary creativity.

DO NOT BOOK. This was a disaster. I’ve requested a full refund. “Tour” began ten minutes late because our guide, Michael was “stuck in traffic”. Our walking tour started with a 20 minute walk to a bus stop (where I had to pay the bus fee). Once we arrived at the restaurant, the guide learned that the restaurant was closed. He then asked us to go shopping while he figured out the rest of the tour. At that point…I told him that it was not going to work out and ended the “tour”.
Michael was a fantastic guide! He knew so much about Chinatown and North Beach! We were fortunate enough to visit a temple on New Year's and ate the most delicious pasta in North Beach. Truly a memorable experience!
Our local guide Maria was fun and knowledgeable. Tried many different delicious foods…fantastic!!! Loved walking around North Beach and Chinatown.
I booked the San Francisco food tour. Less than a week before my tour, the operator told me they had no guides for the day I booked and that I could either select a different day or cancel my booking. Since we were only available that one day, I had to cancel my booking. It's unfortunate that the company doesn't have enough staff to fulfill the dates and times they are showing available.
I have been on many food tours and most of them are an incredible way to get to know the city. As it happens, I've been living in the Bay Area for nearly 15 years and wanted to do something unique with my husband for the afternoon - we've not spent much time in this part of town. My expectation is that the tour guide knows the places we visit inside an out. Usually they have some type of an arrangement with the establishment - saved seats, pre-ordered menus, so that we don't have to wait in line, or try to get a table. I can do that on my own. I honestly barely understood what we paid for in this case. The tour guide is a lovely person - but my expectations were much higher.
The tour started on time and it was just my sister and I on the tour so very intimate. I had been to North Beach before so this tour was great. The pasta was AMAZING!
Great instructor. Great food. Nice Walking tour. Loved china Town. And little Italy. Had food aNd drinks for the entire 3 hours
The local food was amazing. We had the BEST focaccia bread! We were able to experience food in North Beach (Italian) and Chinatown. Our tour guide, Maria, was so knowledgeable about the area and knew the people in the restaurants we went to.
We asked for an early food tour and Maria was able to take us to some great places! She was very knowledgeable about culture, history, and food. She was born in San Francisco so she knew many of the people where we stopped. We walked from our hotel (a few blocks from Fisherman's Wharf) to North Beach (Italian) and Chinatown. Our first stop was fresh ground coffee- we didn't get any to drink as not available. Then to Italian bakery. We had great coffee and sweets! She explained sites along the way and pointed out great places to each lunch and supper. She bought us some things to eat later at the bakery. We had the BEST fresh focaccia bread!!!! Then to Chinatown. It was so unique to walk all the fresh markets. She loaded us up with some food from a local restaurant. We saw the ladies making fortune cookies. Then we went to another local restaurant to eat some lunch. It was delicious!! The tour ended here and we walk back to hotel by ourselves. It is important that you can walk long distances if you do this tour.
Excellent experience! We got to see Little Italy and Chinatown. The locations we tried food were delicious! Maria was very knowledgeable and gave us numerous ideas for things to do for the rest of our visit!
We really enjoyed our tour guide Maria, however, it wasn't quite the tour we were expecting. Maybe I should have been more explicit in our survey. We spent most of the time in the Ferry Building, then moved on to a few stops in the North Shore (Italian) area. I would have enjoyed visiting more areas of the city rather than multiple eateries within the Ferry Building. We didn't stop in China town, but the description of the tour made it sound like this was a major part of the tour.
Fion gave us a wonderful + personal food tour through Chinatown . She customized the tour to our wishes . We had a delightful afternoon . This was one of the best food tours we have had anywhere in the world
Unfortunately I can not give a glowing review.. perhaps our guide was not familiar with the food ..but our experience was more “history of San Francisco “ related than food. My husband and I have taken many food tours and this was not as advertised. We did not have “tastings” we had 2 meals. The guide was not able to offer any history of the food...or suggest anything other than what we thought we would like. It was like going to a restaurant with a friend and not knowing what to order. There was no information on the the restaurant ..other than it was a great place to eat. We managed to walk A LOT in the NorthBeach area..and found some really cools places (not on our tour). We ate pizza at a cool shop ..but really didn’t learn much more than our guide liked their pizza the best. It appeared to me that we were asking more questions than our host would offer. Although he could answer many questions...he did not offer anything more. Nice guy...but not the tour we had in mind.
Fion is the best! She is equally eager to share her neighborhood and culture, as well as to learn about yours. If you're looking for an immersive tour that will let you experience Chinatown as the locals do, then this tour is for you. (Come hungry, and be sure to request Fion!).
Our tour was so much fun and educational. Fion did a great job picking out our dishes. She shared her vast knowledge of the area and was so engaged with us to make sure the tour reflected our wishes to learn about the culture and to try new foods. Highly recommend!
This is the best time we have had any food tours we have been on. Our guide Fion shared her personal experiences with us. Was the perfect day.
