I would have added more food pics if I had them, but I got distracted listening to Kenric describe the food, and then we got busy eating. There was a lot of food and a wonderful variety. We had a couple of big eaters in our group (in my party) and there was food left over. You won't go wrong booking this tour!

It was such a fun experience! We did the combined Chinatown and North Beach tour with Jinny. She was amazing - she tailored the tour to our group and made sure we tried the most incredible foods while telling us stories about the history of this part of town and showing us hidden gems in the back alleys. She went above and beyond to make this an educational and memorable experience with the best yummy bites imaginable. Highly recommended.
Kenric was a wonderful guide! He shared so much about the history and character of the neighborhood, as well as specific establishments. He was entertaining, personable, and was so kind in assisting with wheelchair accessibility. Would definitely book this tour again.
This food tour has been one of the greatest ones that we have ever been to. We love going on food tours and we have some experience and this one, top 3. - Guide Kenric - he was great, knowledgeable and polite. As the tour was taking place, he would tell us stories about Chinatown, really good ones. - Food - delicious. Make sure that you either skip breakfast or have a light one. There is a lot of tasty food. - 6 stops: two sweets, and 4 savory (fried rice, dumplings, dim sum, Cantonese duck, Chinese curry, vegetables… - There is not too much walking. Three hours fly by.
We had an amazing tour of Chinatown with Kenric. I was impressed by the whole tour but especially his timing. Everything just clicked! I could tell how much time he spent teeing things up and it was perfection. He knows his history but still managed to keep it light, fun and entertaining. Great food, easy walking, it was easily one of the highlights of our visit to SF!
The tour was very informative, fun and delicious! Jinny was very knowledgeable about Chinatown history and she made it very fun!
It was easy to find the group at the starting point. Catherine made a point of making everyone feel welcome. Made a quick trip to a fortune cookie manufacturer and had a tasty sample, still warm from the oven. Next stopped for dumplings that were large and fresh. After that we had Cantonese Duck (differentiated from Peking Duck) and pork belly. Catherine picked up some pork buns and then we hiked up a steep hill to find a spot in a park to eat them. Not sure the park was worth the hike as we perched on a raised part of a piece of playground equipment. But there was a slide that several members of our group tried out. Then we were off to have delicious fried chicken and noodles. This stop was the highlight food wise. Ended the tour at a lovely tea shop where the proprietor’s son did a superb job of preparing multiple types of tea for us to try. Most of us purchased tea, but there was no pressure to do so. Catherine provided a very fresh custard tart, still warm from the oven. The group gelled beautifully and were exchanging contact info at the end. Wonderful way to celebrate Father’s Day!
As someone who’s visited SF Chinatown throughout my life, there’s always something new to discover and this tour was a fantastic way to do that. Sure, I could have gone to the restaurants on the itinerary myself, but nothing beats learning the history and what makes this place special with a group of fun people while eating yummy food. Shoutout to my tour guide Kenric, who did an amazing job bringing these stories to life!
Our tour guide Ted was fantastic! The historical information was so engaging. The food was amazing! I didn't expect such large portions and the option to take home if you couldn't finish everything. Can't recommend this tour enough - especially if you get Ted as your tour guide!
Michael was fantastic! He brought us to places we wouldn't normally go and showed us manybl hole-in-the-wall spots. We loved the entire tour and the food was amazing. We would definitely do it again and do another sidewalk tour.
Kenric was an amazing tour guide and paced the tour really well with stops at places we would have never found on our own. This was a truly enjoyable way to navigate this historical part of the city with my partner and 14 yr old daughter
Mr Wong was an excellent tour guide. We loved the restaurants and food choices. Really enjoyed learning about the history and culture throughout the day.
More than food but a great historical tour of Chinatown. Ted was awesome, knowledgeable and humorous. Every stop was well coordinated and the food was amazing. Highly recommend.
Lots of history and storytelling through food! There are 5 stops, with a few interesting detours along the way.
Kenric was a phenomenal tour guide on our trip through San Francisco’s China town. His knowledge and personal perspective during the tour was a welcome addition and a highly recommended experience when visiting SF. 10/10
Our guide, Jinny, was terrific! She has an impressive knowledge of SF history, food and culture, and we really enjoyed touring Chinatown with her and our group. We ate at delicious restaurants that we never would have found on our own. It was a fun and interesting way to spend the morning, and I recommend checking it out!
We did a Sidewalk Tour for our annual staff appreciation event. We had a wonderful time! Our guide, Jinny, was warm, engaging and so knowledgeable and made it a great experience. And the food was excellent! Highly recommended.
Jinny exceeded all expectations and curated a first rate experience for our group. Her energy level, knowledge, and obvious love for the city of SF created for a memorable experience. One of the members stated “why have I never done something like this before “
Jinny was amazing and did a wonderful job accommodating us while navigating through the city with my husband's mobility scooter. The food was delicious and she was very knowledgeable about Chinese history in San Francisco. I have used this company twice and highly recommend them.
Jinny was a fabulous guide. She is so knowledgeable. She is very pleasant and was always very considerate about your preferences.
Great way to see the area and try some fabulous food. Kenrick our guide was so good, with the history and just a really nice guy to have take you around. Would definitely recommend and would do it again.
Ted B. was exceptional providing both history and relative foodie info across a great mix of Chinatown. We packed a great deal into 3 hours - a little walking between courses was VERY welcome!! Would definitely do this again (our 10 and 12 year old children thoroughly enjoyed the experience!).
Enjoyed our tour lead by Michael. The food was very tasty and a nice variety. Michael had very insightful information about Chinatown and San Francisco and gave us great tips for the rest of our trip.
Ted B. was an awesome guide, very easy to listen to, very knowledgeable, very patient & fun. We learned so much history about SF and Chinatown and the food was really good!
Michael was an awesome guide! Super knowledgeable and entertaining. Highly recommended! Come hungry! A great way to learn about the history.
Jinny was fa fantastic Her knowledge and deliver was perfect for the mix of people present. Food tastings were well thought out and delicious.
Jinny was an amazing guide. You can tell how passionate and knowledgeable Jinny is from your first interaction. We learned so much about the food and history of Chinatown. Great date or group activity, left full and satisfied
This was a very fun tour! Our tour guide, Jinny, was very knowledgeable about the history and growth of Chinatown as we walked through. All the food very delicious, but the pork buns stole the show at the beginning! Highly recommend having Jinny as your guide! We definitely will go on other tours with this company!
Ted B was terrific guide! Very knowledgeable with iPad visual aids, loads of historical background.. fascinating stuff in addition to generous food offerings! Filling for your tummy & your mind!
Wish I could give this TEN stars. Ed B was an exceptional tour guide (I'm guessing all of their tour guides are carefully chosen), and the surprise was that this wasn't "just" about the food. Blown away at the real story of Chinatown...wowed by the food. And the food! He warned us to pace ourselves, and was right. None of the restaurants "skimped" on quality or quantity. HIGHLY recommend. Wish I had taken photos ;/
Our group spent the day with Jinny P. who was the perfect guide for this tour. Her knowledge of Chinatown’s history, art, and culture paired with the delicious array of dishes we sampled made for a perfect day in San Francisco. We live in the East Bay and have been to Chinatown a few times before but now see it with new appreciation. Jinny even suggested additional activities we could do after our tour concluded and followed up with a text with a reading list since many of us were interested in learning more about Chinatown’s past and it’s relevance to California’s history. Being immersed in the bustling Chinatown scene almost felt like we had taken a trip without ever leaving home.
Andre is great, full of enthusiasm and “little known” facts, almost all of which are probably true. There are many excellent stops with food samples and tastings ranging from dim sum to fudge and pizza. My fervent suggestion is that the tour provide headphones for clients and a transmitter for the guide so that clients don’t miss the guide’s banter. Definitely a very worthwhile tour and more than worth the price.
This was one of the best gifts we got for Christmas! Jinny was obviously incredibly knowledgeable about Chinatown, and the varieties of food available there. We were a small group, which was a delight in itself, and visited six or seven establishments. The food was out of this world, and we learned so much about the history of Chinatown.
Fun, informative, thoughtful and most of all, great food! The food options in Chinatown can be overwhelming and this was a great way to get to find the best.
We took the walking tour of Chinatown with Ted B and it was an amazing experience! He was so knowledgeable about the history of the neighborhood and how it evolved into its current form. And, of course, the food was amazing at every stop! We were able to try many more places than we would have been able to try on our own with 48 hours in SF. Highly recommend!
Michael was an excellent tour guide who provided some great insights as to the history of Chinatown and San Francisco in general. The tour did not disappoint in the quantity and quality of the food that we had even though some of the regular stops were closed for an unexpected vacation. Highly recommend this food tour!
Great food and history! I learned a lot—- even as a local! The food was fabulous! Highly recommend to visitors and locals alike.
My sister and I love visiting new (and new to us) places to eat, as well as learning about diverse cultures and history of the places we’re visiting. What better way to do it all than a walking food tour?! I’ve done this specific tour a few years ago and had a really great time. And doing it again, this time with guide Ted B, did not disappoint. Ted took us to some wonderful restaurants, while teaching us Chinatown history as well as some table etiquette. He also let us know which Chinese regions’ cuisine were being offered at each location. This is a very worthwhile experience. Please come with an empty belly, an open heart and mind (oh, and good walking shoes). You’ll have an amazing time!
Loved it. Tons of information about Chinatown and loads of great food. Jinny was a great tour leader. I could tell she took her job of making sure everyone had a fantastic experience - very seriously. My highest rating!!!!
The walking tour around Chinatown was awesome. Jinny, our guide, told us so many interesting things.
Ted B. was fantastic, fun and informative. The food was awesome too! Would definitely recommend this tour for anyone visiting San Francisco
What a delightful experience! Our guide Jinny was excellent providing so much history and stories of San Francisco as while a board example of Dim Sum. The stops were not the tourist ones, but were where the locals eat. Delicious !!
We loved it! Our tour guide Jinny was fantastic and a wealth of information. So much food!! We were stuffed! You won’t go hungry. Chinatown can be confusing on your own so this was the way to see it. Would book another tour in a heartbeat!
Michael was great! Shared many great insights on the origins and growth of Chinatown and its restaurants. A must do tour in San Francisco
I'm very happy we went on this tour! We’ve been coming to SF for 30 years and this is one of the best adventures we’ve had. Not only was the food excellent but Jinny gave us a great history of the area as well. We never would have sought out the restaurants we went to had we not gone on this tour. There was just enough walking and sitting throughout the tour. My only recommendation is that you bring a large water bottle. The food WILL make you thirsty.
Jinny is fantastic! Great way to get to know this expansive Chinatown. Jinny was super knowledgeable and personable and not only did she bring us to some great spots, but she shared a ton of interesting information everywhere we went. Good variety of food among the five stops and some very unique dishes we otherwise wouldn’t have known to try. I would highly recommend this activity as a great introduction to a highly varied food scene in this historic place.
Jinny was an outstanding guide on our food tour through San Francisco’s Chinatown. The variety and quality of the food were exceptional, leaving us with an unforgettable experience. Jinny's extensive knowledge of the community's history, her attentiveness to every guest, and her excellent recommendations for our trip enhanced our visit significantly. When we expressed an interest in tea, she went above and beyond, personally escorting us to an incredible tea tasting experience after the tour. We were so impressed with the tour that we’re excited to explore other cities offered by Sidewalk Food Tours. Later, we ran into Jinny again and asked for a recommendation for a bar serving Pisco Punch. She suggested a cozy spot called Mario’s in North Beach, where the drinks were fantastic, and the ambiance was charming. Though we were still full from the tour, the food at Mario’s looked amazing.
We wanted to eat a variety of tasty dishes in Chinatown, but weren’t confident in finding them ourselves. Not only did Jinny P take us to 5 different restaurants with delicious food, she gave us very interesting stories about Chinatown, local history and beyond. It was truly one of the most enjoyable parts of our SF visit. Thank you!
The history and background stories were quite interesting - Ginny was a top notch guide. Bring water and a bag for any o extras you ma want to pick up.
This was rhe perfect tour with the excellent guide. The foid was great and all the information provided by our guide Jenny P was excellent
