Good bike rental experience in general. If you own a higher quality bike, it will make you appreciate the investment. You get what you pay for, in terms of weight and gear ratio. Don't underestimate the terrain or those afternoon winds across the bay. That e-bike will look cheap after an afternoon of thigh busting pedaling.

The mostly flat bike path to the Golden Gate Bridge is just three blocks away from the Lombard Street bike shop. Ride along the scenic waterfront with outstanding views of San Francisco Bay. Pass by the Great Meadow Park at Fort Mason, Crissy Field, the Palace of Fine Arts, and Fort Point en route to the bridge, which leads to Vista Point and the Marin Headlands.
Upon reaching the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge, cycle mostly downhill about 2 miles (3.2 km) for dining and shopping in the waterfront town of Sausalito. From here, you can catch a ferry back to Fisherman's Wharf or the Ferry Building with your bike (own expense). The entire trip takes about 3–4 hours. Alternatively, bike around the city and visit other San Francisco attractions such as Golden Gate Park and Union Square.

What an awesome experience, electric biking around San Francisco and the beautiful Marina, Presidio, Golden Gate Bridge, Golden Gate Park, and so much more. Lily, Barry and Jason were courteous, knowledgeable and super helpful during our family trip. The bikes were awesome, and much needed navigating the hills of SF. Their location was perfect and was super close to the Marina waterfront; perfect start for our ride. I’m glad there are many parking garages around the location too as we drove in. Definitely going to do this again
I found Bike & View by googling when I searched for bike rental for one day. The online rental process is very easy and convenient. The price paid is cheaper than renting the bike at the store. They give you together with the bike a lock and helmet. You should return the bike at the latest at 4.45 pm which is enough time to take the bike at 10.30am, cross the bridge, have a lunch at Sausalito, enjoy the city a couple of hours and come back by crossing the bridge either by ferry or by bike.
Biking Golden Gate and area nearby. So much better than Uber. It was great to enjoy the nice weather.
We decided to reserve the electric bikes and rode over the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito, where we had lunch on the water, then rode back. I was worried about the battery power lasting the entire trip, but they were more than 50% charged when we returned them later that evening. The traffic was a little scary at times, as was the wind on the bridge on our return, but all in all it was a great experience. We all enjoyed it!
It was very easy to book online and they set the bikes out for us, keeping it mostly contactless except when we needed to sign a form. They provide helmets and little bags on the handlebars to store things, along with a bike lock that was pretty sturdy. You rent them for 24 hours and can go wherever you want, unlike some of the other companies in the area.
Two very inexperienced cyclists wanted to experience cycling over the Golden Gate Bridge on a visit to SAN Francisco. There were so many bike rental places to choose from but we decided on Bike & View due to its proximity to our hotel and reasonable price. We chose well. Staff member Tommy could tell I was a little nervous and kindly put me at ease by explaining everything. Helping me with my bike and giving good advice re directions and safety. We had a great bike ride over the bridge and was so glad we did it. Would recommend Bikeand View and a big thanks to Tommy
We were disappointed with the condition of the bikes. All three had some issues. One squeeked the entire time, all three were difficult or not able to change gears at all. The person behind the counter was not very friendly at first. He loosened up slightly after awhile. The only positive thing to mention was his last minute bit of info. regarding the option to drop off the bikes in Sausalito for a one way trip, after our surprise that they close at 6:45pm. This incurs and $12 per bike fee, but well worth avoiding the headache of hauling the bikes back on the ferry. Riding the backs back to our initial starting point was not an option for us. They say it's mostly downhill on certain parts, but this is not a trip for the occasional biker. Dress warm, it's very windy and cold on the bridge. There was also construction on the biker side, so that left very little room for two way traffic with some crazy speed racer bikers coming through. The signs say 15 miles per hour, but that did not hold for some. We reserved and paid online so we were unable to see the bikes till we picked them up. I would recommend paying the extra on site so you are able to see what you are paying for. I'm sure not all rental companys are the same. This is only in reference to Bike & View on Lombard St.
Easy pick up and drop off! Service was perfect NO COMPLAINTS AT ALL! Free helmet and lock included. Thank you!
Our family were very interested to ride the bike to cross G.G. Bridge and we were lucky that day of weather was good !
Rental bikes worked good. When we returned pointed out the bike chain had come off twice on one bike due to a bent part. The lady who greeted us apologized and offered us free water or Gatorade for the inconvenience. She couldn’t have handled it any better. Will be back!
Everything was fine, big group on many bikes (28 in total) but worked out excellent. Can recommend bike tour along the bridge. Thanks a lot!
Smooth and easy to rent bikes through this company. We went over the Golden Gate Bridge, to Sausalito and Tiburon. Would recommend to friends.
Easy online reservation, easily accessible, a great location for over-the-bridge-and-ferry-return. They even have an optional bike deposit in Sausalito if you find that the return ferry is booked and you're tuckered out from getting there.
This place was literally 10 mins walk from our hotel. Renting was pretty easy - we booked online and then showed up next morning around 10am. They made us sign some waivers - gave us the maps of suggested places to stop at on our way to Sausalito and off we went ! It was mostly downhill or flat from the shop and we stopped at almost all the points on the map (Wave Organ being my personal favorite!). Getting on to the bridge is the only steep uphill and the bikes were actually able to gear-shift through the ride, powered by my burning knees ofcourse. Downhill to Sausalito past Golden Gate Vista point was the most fun and highly recommended. Once in Sausalito, we parked our bikes at the ferry terminal, purchased our return tickets, grabbed food and beer at Joinery and then hopped back on the ferry to SF. All in all an amazing experience to bike the bridge - highly recommended!
The day was a winner. There are many bike rentals in San Francisco but the location of this one worked best.
A lot of fun with bike to travel San Francisco. Especially for crossing Golden Gate Bridge. Nice view, amazing and exciting trip for us.
Bike and View are great. Barry in particular was extremely helpful, changing bikes around to find the perfect size and showing all the best bike routes to take. The online discount didn't hurt either, making them the cheapest in San Francisco.
Friendly staff, easy to locate, and the rental costs were reasonable. We'll rent bike here again the next time we visit San Francisco.
The sale person called me a looser! Could you believe it! To bring some precise data, I rented a couple of bicycles on the last 03/11/16 in bike & view (1172, Lombard st) the sale person involved was short, brown skin and wore glasses. During my day rental, I had a flat tire and had to bring the bicycle to a repair shop on my way to Tiburon (Which made me loose part of my day). When I returned the bicycle, the man did not want to refund the repair insisting on the fact that I did not pay for the insurance. When I complained about the status of the tire of his bicycle the man lost his temper, started insulting me, and called me literally a looser. Believe me or not but the tire was out of any manufacturer tolerance limits coming to the remaining groove. I only drove on specific designated bicycle paths and followed every recommendation. Why would I have to make myself responsible for the complete mechanical status of the bicycle, which obviously lacked of maintenance? The clauses of this rental shop are not only abusive but the behavior of the salesperson was humiliating when I was claiming for what, in my opinion, was fair to claim! By the way, I lost my boat back from Tiburon due to this issue and could not return the bicycles on the same day as I had planned. This issue not only made me loose part of my rental day but also delayed my travelling, as I had planned to leave San Francisco the following day early and had to wait for the bike shop opening (9am). I never got my money back.
We had a fairly large group of teens for a ride--20-22 and weren't sure how many would actually ride. (Another rental company charged our cc as soon as we confirmed but these people did not). In fact, we started out with 30 bikes, changed it to 24 before we arrived, and ended up with 20 rentals--very confusing trying to figure out who was there and who was not. No problem! In fact, I rented 21 & found out a little later there were only 20 on the ride, and they cheerfully refunded. They also got us in & out of there in record time--price was great & included both helmets & locks. This was a student exchange program and we will definitely use them again.
Pros-Two extremely convenient locations, one in Chinatown, the other very close to Ghirardelli Square. Very easy online reservations. Bikes are nicely appointed with a handlebar back, a back rack (no bungee!) and a U-lock. Insurance is available for a moderate ($4) up-charge. Cons-The first bicycle I rented had gears that were so poorly adjusted that it was nearly impossible to climb hills without them massively and dangerously 'skipping'. As you can imagine, hill-climbing is a feature of cycling in SF. Luckily I was able to trade the bicycle for another at their second location. However this bike was only marginally better maintained. While the gears did not 'skip', the adjustment on the cable did not allow one to fully access all gears on the rear derailleur and the tires were essentially bald. One could understand all this if the rental pricing was bargain basement, but it is at market rate. Summary-I can recommend renting a bicycle at this establishment, but STRONGLY recommend that you thoroughly check out its performance before leaving the area of the shop
My girlfriend and I had a great day in San Fransisco and the small town of Sausalito once we had crossed the Golden Gate Bridge. Unfortunately, firstly, we were told we have until 7:30pm to return our bikes when the actual time was 7:00pm. Secondly, the two evening ferry's were full meaning we were effectively stranded in Sausalito until after 7:30pm. To address this we caught a taxi which cost us an extra $65 on top of the $50 fee already paid for the bikes, as well as the $25 for the ferry which we couldn't catch. All this aside, once we returned with our bikes the business owner proceeded to tell us that it was not his job to stay until 7:05pm and that we should have been here before 7:00pm even though he had informed my girlfriend and I (separately) that we had until 7:30pm to return the bikes. We called as soon it was clear we wouldn't make closing time, however the owner was very unhelpful and not flexible in the slightest. We explained our situation that we needed to leave San Fran today and his response was they closed at 7 and re-opened at 9am - anything in between was not his problem. We got a taxi as soon as possible and made every effort to get there however the owner was still very aggressive when we arrived at 7.05pm. Whether or not we mis-heard the closing time or this was incorrect information, we would have expected a lot more from a company focused on tourists. All in all a disappointing experience and the whole interaction seemed rushed, unprofessional and impersonal.
I've done this twice already with friends. San Francisco is a gorgeous city and you can do and see way more by bike. First time I went to Sausalito; second time I biked all the way to Ocean Beach going through the Golden Gate Park. The only downside is some hills in SF, but the view afterwards is really worth it! At the rental place, they were so nice and helpful! I'm coming back for sure :)
We spent a day on the bike to discover San Fransisco. Sometimes quite challening, but in general it was very nice. Bike & View personnel was flexible and the bikes were of good quality. Would go again!
I booked Christmas eve, went Christmas day. I didn't have enough cause for the deposit on me, but the team were very helpful. Bike was pretty good quality and gear ratios did the tricks for the hills. Would go again! Definitely need to bike San Fran
We thought it might be a nice idea to do the Golden Gate Bridge by bike. Basically it is a good idea, but you should chose the rental agency very carefully. Bike&View was not what we would choose again! The contract says that you have to pay for every repair, e.g. when there is a problem with the tires. Only problem was that these tires were really old and didn't even have any tire profile left! Especially when riding over gravel, we were really afraid that the tires could burst given their ultra-low quality. To us it seemed like their business model to rent you a really old piece of trash in order to get money for every damage. On the ferry back from the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge we had the chance to compare our bikes to other rented bikes - they looked a lot better, and ours were pretty much the only ones without suspension. Especially up the hills of San Francisco and even more down those hills you need a trustworthy bike. When switching gears, the bicycle chain sprang out of the gear wheels three times. Easy to fix, but annoying and shouldn't happen for good quality bikes in a good shapes. And by the way: don't trust their maps! They guided us the absolutely worst way to the Golden Gate Park, suggesting the bike route on one of the most busy roads without a bike lane - we then got ourselves another map from a different bike rental agency, which showed us the perfect route for bikes.
These guys are not on fisherman's wharf, but charge less than the rental places there. There is a parking garage a couple blocks down that is (probably) cheaper than the garages in Fisherman's wharf, so you compound your savings. Bikes were hi quality hybrids with disk brakes in excellent condition. I take off one star because the lock on one of our bikes was broken when issued to us (I didn't check it since it was in the bag). When I returned, they first threatened to charge me for breaking the lock...but relented. I would definitely rent from these guys again.
Nice bike rental. If you book online, it's also the cheapest you can get in SF! But make sure you be in time to pick up the bikes and make the most out of it. The stores close at 6pm and if you didn't plan to return the bikes the next day you better hurry. The one somewhat older guy in the shop we went to wasn't super friendly though. No kindness when you decide to return your bikes after 2 hours (when renting it for one day). You will have to pay the full 24 hours! Plan your trip wisely.
We stopped at the Lombard St. shop one afternoon on our way back from sightseeing to inquire about bike rentals for the following day. The gentleman working in the shop that day was extremely helpful, letting us know we could save a few bucks if we reserved the bikes online. We did exactly that and were thrilled to get TWO bikes, with helmets, bike locks, and maps for an entire day for less than $50! We had a great day biking across the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito, where we enjoyed lunch and some shopping before taking the ferry back to San Francisco. Love this place!
In San francisco, there is so many bike rent store. But here staffs are so kind!! If you rent here, They'll help you for good riding.
No frills but friendly, good bikes and good value at $22 per person if booked online. We did so a couple of hours before we picked up. We picked up from Lombard street, did the Sausalito ride across the bridge. Dinner. Ferry back. The roads in San Francisco seem quite safe, drivers are generally understanding and patient. Just watch those hills.
I found this to be the cheapest bike rental during my research. I would recommend booking this online. We picked up the bikes at the Chinatown location which was easy to find. The bikes were in good condition although some of the ones in our group were very squeaky. We were a bit worried in the beginning but we found that riding on the road wasn't too bad. You just need to be careful of the cable car tracks.
Renting a bicycle in San Francisco is probably the most amazing thing you can do. Bike & View is the perfect starting point to go for a mindblowing journey over the Golden Gate bridge to the Marin Headlands. The bikes are well maintained and good value for money. Definitely would recommend to rent!
After reading trip advisor reviews for several of the bike rental companies we rented from Bike and View in China Town. The location was close to our hotel in Union Square and the reviews we read for all the companies convinced us that they were the way to go. Other companies had complains about bikes not working properly and Bike & View didn't/ The rental went smoothly and we rode down to the Port of San Francisco building. There are some neat shops in the building and 3 days a week there is a huge market. We rode to AT&T Park and then all the way around to the Golden Gate Bridge. There are a couple of steep climbs to the Golden Gate bridge but people of all ages etc were biking up and if you had to walk it wasn't a long walk. We biked to Sausalito which is a nice town with some quaint shops. We then rode the ferry back which dropped us off at the Port of San Francisco building right near where we rented the bikes. The best thing about the experience was the bikes. We observed people with bikes from other companies having issues with brakes, shifting gears etc. We had no issues with our bikes. Bike & View provided helmets, maps, locks etc as well. I would recommend using them if you are in SF.
We rented 4 bikes for a one-day visit of SF, of course with a ride over the Golden Gate bridge. There are many bike rentals in the city; we selected this one simply because it was close to our accomendation. The service is good: you get a bike with a small bag (on the steer), a lock and a helmet. The bikes are in good condition: tires, brakes, gears; everything worked well. So we had a nice day.
We booked the package of the bike tour & Alcatraz tour. Very good value for money for two days activities. Guides were very well informed & very patient for the slower cyclists. They also was very careful with cars & traffic. A very enjoyable way to see the sights of San Fran & I would recommend it.
I'm sad to say that we were unable to take advantage of Bike & View. I made a reservation with them online because the the great reviews and best price. Unfortunately my son and I got sick and we had to cancel at the last moment. The website and fine print list a $15/person administrative fee for cancellations within 24 hours of the rental period, which I was not very excited about, but we were sick. I sent an email to the shop (couldn't leave a voicemail on their answering machine for some reason), and went back to bed. Later in the day, found a reply saying they were sorry to hear about our illness, hope we were well soon, and not to worry about the cancellation fee. I'll definitely look them up next time we're in San Francisco.
We rented bikes from here to tour around San Fran after walking Lombard St. The shop is small and easy to walk by but the owner was great and provided well-working bikes with lots of great advice.
I found this place on Trip Advisor while planning our vacation for Labor Day weekend. The reason we had to use them was because we waited too long to book our Alcatraz Trip and were sold out unless you did a combo package like this one. They are one of the few Bike Rental places that offer a bike rental and Alcatraz combo package that you can do on your own and are not part of a group tour! Which is a BONUS! You get to dictate what time your pick up your bike and what day! You also can rent your bike one day and go to Alcatraz on a different date. . I highly recommend you do that, this way you can enjoy both! We picked up our bicycles on Saturday and went to Alcatraz on a Monday. The con with this option is that you have to go back to their shop and pick up your tickets for Alcatraz on the day that your going. You can't get your tickets early! I asked! This was very inconvenient for us, since we didn't have our own transportation. The other con is that with this package you only get your bike for 4 hours. The website says its a day rental but it isn't. We had to pay an extra $14 since we returned the Bikes late. The staff member did give us a deal on the overage but i felt that the $59.99 per person cost should include more than just a few hours. We also never got our free water. When I asked for one, they told me the cost.
Our local friends recommended this place for its location and price while I was visiting with a friend. My friend and I rented hybrid bikes for a very reasonable price. If you reserve the bikes online or call, you save some money. The staff member adjusted the seats for us and let us try them out before taking off. (If you check in to the store through facebook or foursquare, you get a free bottle of water). The rental includes a helmet, bike lock, and there is a pouch at the front of the bike with a map attached (great spot to put a purse, wallet, snacks or water bottle). We rode across the Golden Gate bridge to Sausalito (beautiful place and great for an ice cream treat) and came back on the ferry. Unfortunately, we got very lost. What was supposed to be a 15 minute ride back turned into an hour and a half. To make matters worse, our phones died on the way back. We finally arrived to the shop an hour after it closed. The staff member stayed late and was extremely kind and only charged us a small fee. We offered to buy him a drink or something but he declined. His kindness was a great way to turn around our frustrating ride back to the shop. I would highly recommend this place due to its great price and kind and understanding staff. If you make it there, say hi to Lola (the adorable dog we saw napping in the shop). Enjoy!
very friendly staff , best price in the city. a must do in San Francisco. Bike the Golden Gate and Sausalito and return by ferri
I found the shop by accident, just few hundred meters from our hotel. Bikes were good quality and we did great tour trough the city. Definitely on of our best experience in San Francisco.
We found the Bike & View on line and got a great on line deal. The business was located blocks from our hotel and made it easy to find. We arrived at the time indicated and were promptly assisted by the very nice staff. They assigned us our bicycles and explained some key areas and gave us a map of the area and sites to see while in the city. We spent the day casually riding and crossed the bridge where we then used the tickets given to us to ride across the bay back into the city. We found that riding a bike in the city was much easier than driving a car. We didn't have to worry about parking and above all being stuck in traffic. I will recommend Bike & View to all my friends who will be visiting San Francisco. Thank you for a wonderful first time biking experience in the city to all the staff Bravo!
I loved cycling in San Francisco and Bike & View were very helpful, professional and friendly. I do not hesitate to recommend them.
I recommend this bike rental 100%, the service was great, the personnel super friendly and helpful with suggesting nice routes. The bike I had booked (the cheapest one) was not available in my size anymore (I'm quite tall and they couldn't know that) and they gave me a better one without additional charges. Very good prices if you book online or over the phone!! (about 22USD for the entire day) They also have some sweets, power bars, fruits and drinks for purchase.
I live in San Francisco, but have never biked to Sausalto. I found Bike & View because they were close to my home, they also took on-line reservations. My bike and paperwork was ready to go when I arrived and the woman who welcomed to me showed me exactly where to go on the map. I'd recommend this to a friend and will probably go again one day!
Electric bikes rented, good explanation! Battery lasted all day. Friendly young man who helped us
Poor customer Service: the agent who handed us the bikes was particularly. He addressed us (a couple aged 49 and 58) as if he were lending bicycles to schoolchildren, repeating the different instructions three times in an authoritarian tone! At the price of renting these bikes (as expensive as a rental car), it is really a lack of commercial know-how and respect. I recommend against this renter, which is not well placed.
very poor bikes in a very poor condition. While cycling my bike broke down. Have it repaired somewhere else but Bike&View later refused to reimburse it. While the making bike maker clearly indicated that the equipment that was rented is in very poor condition. The Service afterwards has no chance.
