Private 2-hour Alcatraz App Guided Tour

When you book with Viator, expect to be on your own to figure things out. Absolutely horrible experience and would never recommend them. Plenty of other services.

The flies were amazingly horrible. We went on the boat and immediately returned on the next boat. This was a waste of money. They should warn people about these seasonal flies so that we can prepare with the right clothes. I was very disappointed in this whole experience.

Great experience. Would highly recommend speaking to the oldest in mate in there and having a photo and book signed by him. He was great to chat with him and listen to his real life experiences.

This is not a private Alcatraz tour much less an Alcatraz tour. The is a tour where flies land on you constantly while a recording tells you you about the San Fran bay

I showed up on time and there was no tour at the 4:00 time that I paid. Viator for. In fact, I showed my Viator reservation to the person working at the destination where my “Tour of Alcatraz” was supposed to disembark from, and the person communicated with me “I don’t know what this is, but we don’t have any boats leaving at this time, our boat left ten minutes ago.” I would like my money back for this tour.

It was awesome. Our tour guide was fabulous. He customized the trip based on what we wanted to see. He was extremely knowledgeable. We got a great informative/educational tour and saw so much!!!!

The History of Alcatraz and all the events that occurred when Alcatraz was in operation is well with the time. We met an actual inmate who was in the book store for a book signing.

Arrive about thirty minutes before the appointed time and have several ways to identify yourself. Get in line early to be able to choose where to sit on the ferry. Be ready to either climb or take the tram. Inside looks disgusting as one can only imagine being incarcerated here. The surroundings are beautiful but very cool in the summer especially if the temperatures over the hills is 80 are above.

Not really a history buff or anything but I really enjoyed the views of SF from the ferry snd the island. In the app you can customize the experience to focus on views

Bad experience. Audio guided tour is not necessary. Audio is provided by the National Park Service at no extra fee inside the building. It is not necessary to have audio service outside the buildings. Moreover, tickets can be easily purchased at many kiosks in piers.

This sucked. The audio tour is just available when you get to Alcatraz. You aren’t required to stay with a group and there’s no benefit to having the app (which also sucks). Important also to note, the device freely handed out is more interactive than the app and the man’s voice is very annoying. Buy a ferry ticket and do your own thing — or take the audio tour the Parks Service provides. There’s nothing to gain from buying this inflated package.

We were not able to go on this tour due to NOT receiving a QR code. The tour company does not accept a booking or confirmation number. The language on your voucher only told us to purchase ferry tickets. This is not sufficient to get a ferry ticket. We wasted money trying to use your services. Go straight to Alcatraz site and buy your tickets!

If you’re in SF, you need to try this out. They give you access to the app, so you don’t need to borrow headphones

I purchased three of these and never received a link to try to connect to the audio tour. I never received any instructions I continually tried to contact via tour and was not able to get to anybody for assistance. I've sent chats I have called I have tried to reach them because we never got this to work and ended up having to use headsets instead at the facility for a different tour. Very unfortunate this is my first terrible experience on Viator and to say it was frustrating is minimizing how I feel about this.

I dont think you can say you visited SF until you have experienced Alcatraz first hand! We got lucky to find tickets the day of, and it was amazing

We loved this experience, really an incredible part of SF. This was our third time visiting the city, but everytime we tried to go it was sold out. We were finally able to go, and the app and audio was spot on!

The tour team failed to book my ferry ticket and there were none left to purchase by the time we realized. I was the only one in my group that didn’t get to go on the tour. They weren’t able to rectify the situation when I got in contact with them. Worse, based on other reviews it seems like this is a common problem for them.

Under no circumstances should you order tickets on this site, because they do not refund money if you do not receive a QR code without which you will not receive the tickets.

Definitely a great way to see Alcatraz, extra tour is interesting, you get to see all the viewpoints as well

You pay for this excursion and then end up using the headsets that everyone gets else for free. I wouldn’t bother paying for the extra information that was provided via this excursion. There was not a seamless flow from point to point on the audio provided by the audio for this tour. We loved Alcatraz, but felt like we put out more money than was necessary

The web site was deceiving. It said your experience starts at the pier 33. This leaves the assumption that the ferry was part of the trip. The next morning you send a text we need to get a ferry ticket too. The problem is the ferry was fully booked and there was no way to go. Will not use you company again. Waisted $50 for your product and couldn’t even go. What a scam.

This was a complete waste of time and money. The tour requires you to download an app. Using an iPhone 15 Pro, it was unable to accurately track our location and consequently gave information not appropriate to the areas we were in. The app was clumsy and not intuitive. Their “support” was so slow that we were an hour into the journey before responding to our request for help. The narrator spent more time telling you how much you were going to enjoy it rather than providing useful information about what you were actually looking at. The app is trash and the tour was useless. Alcatraz provides a free audio tour inside the cell block which is included with the Alcatraz ticket. Do yourself a favor, and just buy the ferry and Alcatraz ticket and use their free audio tour… It’s cheaper and better than this tour.

Hi there, recommend seeing Alcatraz such a fun way to see the city and we really get taken back to the scary lives of the prisoners. The app is great because you don’t have to rent the audio

I was never actually given a qr code and could not open the tickets for the audio tour. It constantly said that I can buy ferry tickets myself but when I went to purchase the tickets I was not in the system. was not able to use the tickets, lost $125😒

We had a lot of fun. I went with my kids and my husband everyone love it. It was great day. I like it so much.

We have lived in SF for many years, but we never had the chance to see Alcatraz. Absolutely breathtaking and stunning, highly recommended visiting

We had bad experiences with Viator. They suggested offering a tour to Alcatraz, with a boat tour as a package. In the end, it was just the boat tour without visiting the prison, but for the price of both. We only received the tickets shortly bevor the tour and we were unable to exchange them!

Audio and app are great but beware that booking last min can be tough to find tickets on alcatrz. We ended up getting the bay cruise option

We absoltley loved this tour - truly, a remarkable and unforgettable experience. The only issue was we booked the bay cruise option which was the only option available. With this option you do the tour on the cruise, still a great time, but we wish we booked it a few weeks ago to get the chance to get on the island. So highly recommend booking early

We enjoyed this tour, but we didn't realize that there are a few different options to pick from. The Alcatraz and Angel City option takes you to both Alcatraz and angel island, we chose the bay cruise option which only passes around the island, but we ended up upgrading to the angel city one, which you get off at. Overall fun day, and the app is easy

Such a huge disappointment!! We booked out tickets for the tour of Alcatraz 10 days in advance. After driving 10 hours to get there, we were told our tickets were not valid. We called trip advisor, nobody was available to talk over the phone. They would only communicate through texts. They told us they changed our tickets to the next day. We were never informed that they had changed our date. We’d already driven there and paid $50 to park our vehicle. They told us they’d give us a tour of the city instead of the Alcatraz tour we paid for. We noticed the ticket price was half the price trip advisor charged. But your tickets when you get there. Don’t buy the audio package. It comes with all the tickets bought in sight for half the price. Poor customer service!! We are out our ticket money and the $50 parking fee.

I was told we would be doing a sightseeing tour of Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island, Angel Island, Sausalito, the Marin Headlands, Fort Point/Presidio, Ghirardelli Square, Pier 39 and SF skyline. We only toured the Golden Gate Bridge and went around Alcatraz island. When I first purchased the ticket they told me they would request tickets to go tour inside Alcatraz island. I was later told the tickets had sold out. I believe they should figure out if they're any tickets available before you're committed to buying tickets. Check the official Alcatraz website for ticket availability. If it shows up they're sold out then this tour will not take you to Alcatraz island as much as they tell you they'll request it. This tour was so boring. This tour was basically the Bay Discovery Cruise tour but overpriced. I could have purchased it from the Alcatraz official page for a lot less. Very bad communication from their end. I had to message and call them to get my tickets since they still didn't hadn't sent it to me on the day of. Don't purchase your tickets from here!

Was sold out yet my money was taken...$190.00. Now I'm having to work to get it back! I received a text after purchasing saying they couldn't fulfill what I bought.

2 cancellations by you, no trip taken. Tour operator said they had no booking and to book with them direct. Tried multiple times to sort this but to no avail or no trip. Really disappointed with everything. We came from NZ and was looking forward to a trip to Alcatraz. Wouldn't recommend this to anyone 😡😡😡😡 from the four of us!

The trip never happened. We were told to show up between 11 and 5 at the place. Me and my friends arrived at the place around 4 where we were supposed to redeem our vouchers for actual tickets. The business said they had no record of our tickets whatsoever, and even if they did, the last ferry left at 350. So even if we did have tickets, we still wouldn’t have been able to go because we received false information. And finally, when we called Viator to ask for a refund, the first operator said they would put us on hold to figure out this mess and hung up after leaving us on hold for 10 minutes. The next operator said they would try to give me a refund, but also that the company is a “non-refundable” company. I understand the website says no refunds and I’d agree with it 9/10 times, but I never even received what I paid for. This company is an absolute ******* scam and will be actively telling people to avoid working with Viator.

Such an interesting experience!!! It’s worth it for a lifetime!!! Perfect for a group or just a couple travel.

This tour came up as a good deal because it also included an in depth app guide that goes beyond what is offered by the Park. It guides through the whole park!

The way in which the tour operator failed to meet what I believed were the conditions of the tour I booked for me and Swedish visitors I am still waiting for a response to my last message.

A great and unique experience! The app made it more personalized, and we really enjoyed learning about the history behind Alcatraz

the app kept freezing and pausing and having to restart it because it would not sync with the required maps application (supplemental to the tour app you needed) and eventually my friends and I went to grab the audio provided by the state park itself. if that wasn't available to us then the audio would not have worked at all!
