Our guide Catherine was the best, so knowledgeable about the area and the history of the city, it was a pleasure to spend time with her. The tour was taken at a good pace, we never felt rushed. All the food we had was absolutely delicious, and the staff at the restaurants friendly and welcoming.
This was a fun way to learn about an interesting and vibrant neighborhood. Catherine was knowledgeable and enthusiastic and the food was really authentic and delicious. Definitely recommended.
Fun tour with Catherine. Great food and interesting info about North Beach. I was so full that I had to take some home for dinner.
Eric was very entertaining - knowledgeable of SF/North Beach historical facts. Pointed out areas of interest in this area. As the area to be covered is honestly not that large, plenty of time for good conversation while sampling various foods this neighborhood is noted for.
The food tour was excellent. Catherine was extremely informative. The pace was comfortable. The food was authentic. We walked away with a great appreciation of North Beach, its food and heritage.
We had a fabulous tour with Jenni! She was very knowledgeable and upbeat with a fun personality. We had lots of great interesting foods in Chinatown and also North Beach. Don’t hesitate to take this tour, it has been the highlight of our visit to San Francisco!
This was our tour with Jinny: she is excellent. Very personable and knowledgeable of the area, and 'for sure' knows great places to stop for a bite of food. Well worth the time. Major tip: show up on an empty stomach. The food is plentiful and great.
Catherine was very knowledgeable and told interesting stories about the area. She took us to authentic, culturally significant places to taste. The foods we tried were excellent!
Katherine was a wonderful host. Loved the tour and highly recommend. Going back to some of the restaurants for dinner and lunch.
I would highly recommend this tour for not only a great sampling of Italian food in San Francisco’s North Beach, but also to get an interesting 3 hour history lesson of the city and the food/locations you are experiencing. Michael was a terrific tour guide and was engaging with our entire group of 7 (including 2 teenagers). He made an effort to learn a bit about everyone in his group and then weaved this knowledge into the stories he told about the city. He even surprise special ordered fettuccine Alfredo extra for my daughter because she had mentioned earlier in the tour that it was her favorite. Amazing experience!
Jinny was our guide. She made our experiences interesting and fun. She is whimsical, theatrical, knowledgeable, entertaining, kind and considerate. My friends and I had a great time!
Mike gave us a delightful tour around North Beach that left our feet a little tired, our bellies and taste buds satisfied, and our hearts and minds full of the stories and characters that make up this town’s history and flavor. There were just 2 of us on the adventure with him, and he gave us so much attention and answered all our questions so thoughtfully. What a great re-introduction to San Francisco!
Excellent tour. Great balance of SF history (I've lived here all my life and learned new stuff today), nice variety of food tastings and a very kind, great tour guide Albert. Really gave us a very favorable impression of North Beach. San Francisco was gorgeous! Really good eats too! Highly recommend this tour if you like food.
We had a great time exploring North Beach. I always enjoy learning the history of an area and an added bonus of this tour was going to the top of a parking deck and seeing a wonderful view of San Francisco and learning about what we were seeing. The food was excellent and the time went by quickly. We came home with lots of good food souvenirs from area shops! I would definitely recommend the guide Michael and the tour overall :)
We had an awesome (and delicious) tour of North Beach with tour guide Spud, who was super knowledgeable. Highly recommend!
My wife and I took the tour as part of our anniversary weekend. Another couple was scheduled to join but had to cancel, so we had Spud all to ourselves. He was a fantastic guide, charismatic and, in large part owing to his journalism background, super knowledgeable about the area's history and quirks. As I have a similar professional history, it made for an easy rapport. All the food stops were excellent and, because the other couple had to cancel, we ended up with all sorts of extra food. Can't be mad at that.
This was our first Food Tour, it was so much fun! Good food, friendly group and wonderful guide, Michael. We learned so much about San Francisco and we've lived in the bay area for 30+ years. We totally enjoyed it and would highly recommend it. We'll do another one for sure!
This was an amazing tour and Spud was a great guide! We learned so much about the history of SF and North Beach area, and got to sample a lot of yummy food. I would highly recommend this tour.
Incredibly interesting and informative. The guide knew things about the area that my wife, who had lived in the area didn't know. Food was very good with lots of varieties.
We had an amazing time and Spud was a great tour guide. However, we had one person with a gluten allergy and let Sidewalk Food Tours know this long before the tour. Being in San Francisco, there are plenty of gluten free options, but he mainly got mushrooms and salad. We think we should've at least gotten a discount on his portion of the price since this was an expensive tour.
Spud is the BEST! My hubby and I were visiting San Francisco (from Atlanta) on our 26th Wedding Anniversary and booking this tour was like spending time with family and friends. He's articulate, knowledgable, and has a GREAT sense of humor! Book this tour...you won't regret it!
What a birthday surprise! Spud, our guide, did a phenomenal job of weaving the history and culture of North Beach and SF with 5 great food stops. His choices were spot on - Italian sandwiches, pizza, roasted vegetables, pasta (cacio e Pepe), flatbreads on some of the best focaccia I've ever had and of course, gelato. Spud was fantastic - a retired travel writer, he was a wealth of knowledge about SF and the state. Even as a Bay Area local, we learned so much.
Jinni P was amazing! Her knowledge of the North Beach area was amazing. Each and every restaurant we visited was delicious and her recommendation beyond the tour were awesome too. I would take a tour with her again and recommend to even my closet friends to do the same! Loved it!
What a wonderful tour and way to spend three hours in North Beach. We visited several popular places for pizza (Il Casaro), pasta (Betty Lou's), focaccia (Mario's Bohemian Cigar Store Cafe-which is not really a cigar store; find out the reason for the name when you take the tour), a sandwich (Molinari Delicatessen), and gelato (Lush Gelato). Each place had its own charm and story. And to show the breadth of the tour, each of the four of us on the tour chose a different dish as our favorite. Personally I liked the chocolate chip and mint gelato. The tour was enhanced by the personality and energy of our tour guide, Spud, a former SF Chronicle writer and editor. His stories about the food and restaurants, knowledge of SF history, and his infectious personality made the whole event fun and engaging. My girlfriend and I ended the tour more knowledgeable about North Beach, and looking forward to a return visit. We recommend the North Beach walking food tour for the food, history and fun
Fabulous North Beach tour with Girlina – highly recommend signing up with her, when possible. Her breadth and depth of San Francisco history is phenomenal. As a local of nearly 20 years, I learned so much! Unfortunately, the food portion of the outing was not commensurate with the history/tour portion. The eating establishments were good (esp. Molinari), but the food choices were mostly basic and meager. I recommend the tour, with Girlina for a deep understanding of the history of this colorful area of SF! The excursion would have been 5*, had it not been for the food portion. The tour portion was definitely Excellent/5*
Dark charmless pasta spot. Weird stories about kidnappings. Very odd places you visit like an alley with Japanese anime over on the Chinatown side of Broadway. Stand on top of a parking garage and eat a sandwich. It’s all weird. Don’t do it. Just walk around north beach and buy some food.
Spud was an entertaining and fun host for our walk! We enjoyed the food/restaurants so much and really felt like we got to know the North Beach neighborhood! We highly recommend this tour!!
My husband and I had a great experience with Mike! It was only the two of us on the tour, and Mike let us take our time and customize the tour. He had a wealth of information about not only North Beach, but also San Fran. He provided us with many great activity and restaurant recommendations.
Spud did an awesome job of mixing delicious spots with telling us stories about North Beach. We are from the area yet we learned a lot. Spud made sure everyone was having a good time. Hidden gems pointed out along the way were a highlight. Overall fantastic day!
Excellent food tour in North Beach. Michael was extremely knowledgeable about the history of San Francisco and North Beach. The food was great and the tastings were all outside. It was a fun way to sample some of the best restaurants and to learn about the area. Highly recommend this tour.
I throughly enjoy our tour. It was the best one I've been on, and I've done at least five others in different cities across the nation. Our tour guide. Spud, was very knowledgeable and took us to some incredible places, that were full of traditions and history. I loved all of the food tastings, and I'm very picky about what I eat. He also took us to a unique place that gave us a bird's-eye view of the city. The other members in our group were also awesome. We had a very memorable experience.
The food was fantastic. I even liked the eggplant parmigiana sandwich which has never happened before. The pasta and gelato were delicious. The pizza was ok. The friendly guide was very knowledgeable about the food and the history of San Francisco.
Our tour was fantastic! Jinny was a very bubbly, extremely knowledgable docent sharing a lot of North Beach history. The resturaunt were fabulous and the food very good. This was the second time we have taken this tour and will likely take it again.
Jimmie was excellent. She was very knowledgeable about the area and the history. The food was excellent too. I would hugely recommend going on this tour.
We are native San Franciscans and our daughter is a foodie. For her 11th birthday, she wanted to do a food tour with some of her close friends. This was *the perfect* experience thanks to Lucy. Here's a quote from my daughter: "Thanks for making my birthday extra special with treats along the way and sharing so many interesting facts about SF that I never knew!" Thank you so much Lucy!
Spud was a perfect guide. He was a constant source of fascinating information, history and stories about the North Beach area and the city in general. We barely moved out of a 3 block radius yet were immersed in an astounding amount of detail and delicious culinary offerings. I world highly recommend this tour!
The tour was so much fun, and I learned so much about SF. Food was exceptional-especially ending with gelato. I highly recommend.
Such a great way to spend 3 hours just eating and enjoying all the stories and facts told along the way. The day of our tour the weather was just perfect and Spud was a really great tour guide. The five places we visited were truly tasty. I will recommend you come hungry and pace yourself because you will want to save room for the gelato at the end of the tour! Ah-may-zing! Highly recommend.
A great tour with interesting information about the area and several really good food stops! Highly recommend!
This is our second tour with this company. We lucked out and had perfect weather. Our tour guide, Lucy, was very knowledgeable. Each of the food stops was better than the one before. We live in the Bay Area so we played tourist. So much fun! It was a great start to Mother’s Day!
Scott was an excellent tour guide with great taste in local cuisine. He offered thorough explanations at each of our stops and was clearly passionate about the city and each of our stops. Would highly recommend for both tourists and locals alike.
Scott was a great guide for our afternoon in North Beach. It was a wonderful combination of food, history, and Scott’s personal stories, while we walked the neighborhood.
Great combination of history and tasty bites. We had a good time learning about the history and enjoyed the food
Scott was very knowledgeable about North Beach and shared the information in an entertaining storytelling manner. The food was excellent and not huge portions since there were 5 tastes. Very enjoyable!
Six of us did a private tour of North Beach which included the neighborhoods of Italy and China town. Our tour guide Scott was very informative. Unfortunately it was an extremely hot day so it made it hard standing and listening even in the shade. We have done many food tours in lots of different cities and just found this one a bit lacking in food and maybe a bit too much of the history. Although we enjoyed hearing about the history of the neighborhoods it maybe could have been condensed. The portions of the food in each stop were generally small. The pizza place being the smallest. One personal size pizza for 6 of us. Usually we walk away from food tours feeling satisfied....this was not the case here. The one Italian place Scott boasted about it being a great place for seafood but unfortunately we did not get any of it. The fettuccine we did get was very good but once again very small portions. I realize prices have gone up for everything these days but this tour was quite expensive to begin with so we were expecting a bit more.
Our guide - Scott - was terrific. Knowledgeable, personable and full of obscure facts, he made our three-hour tour seem too short. He picked five restaurants for our tastings, and each was a standout. We'll definitely book another tour with him!
Scott was an incredible guide. We live locally and really enjoyed his knowledge and gift for storytelling. Highly recommend this tour.
Scott Lettieri was an absolutely wonderful guide! So much history, stories and fabulous food!! His narration was outstanding and showed us so many places you might otherwise miss. We loved the food, and only wish we were here longer to enjoy more of it. Highly recommend!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was really a top notch walking and food tasting tour of the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco! Our knowledgeable and friendly guide, Ted, explained a lot of interesting lore while we toured historical sites in this formerly Italian and beatnik neighborhood centered on Columbus Avenue. The Italian food we sampled was delicious and plentiful… fresh deli sandwiches from Molinari, authentic wood-fired pizza from Il Casaro, tasty pesto tagliatelle from Italian Homemade, yummy eggplant panini from Mario’s Bohemian cafe, and super smooth pistachio gelato from Lush Gelato! The three hours we spent with Ted was really fun and satisfying!
