Our experience with Golden Gate Bridge bike rentals was extremely positive one. The pickup was swift, the staff very helpful and the overall communication pleasant. The location is perfect, close to the promenade bike path and Presidio of San Francisco park.

we went here and wanted to cross the bridge. we thought it was too much and he gave us a deal if we got it back by 6! we got back late, and he didn’t even charge us. very great place to get bikes!!
Absolutely fantastic service, great bikes, great service! Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to cycle the Golden Gate Bridge. Good value for money too.
Bikes were in good order and satisfactory. It's quite close to the Bay and pathways and if you book the day before you can save some dollars. You do however have to traverse a few blocks of city traffic to get to the Bay. We biked over the Golden Gate Bridge and back and it took only 3 - 4 hours to do, so these guys should offer a half day hire option, which they don't appear to.
We booked online for a slight discount for a day's rental, which includes the lock and helmet. Basic bikes that worked, helmet was definitely well-used and service was polite but no real directions on the best route to the Golden Gate bridge. We were advised where the big hills were, which was good. If you are a newbie with bikes, maybe go somewhere else because I felt the expectation is you know what you are doing and where you are going. Everything was reasonable for the price and no hassle when we returned our bikes 4 hours later. I would book the day before (but no refunds within 24 h of booked day) because I want to know the weather (ie. foggy conditions) before I go biking on the Golden Gate, you know?
The bike company wants customers to take insurance on old bikes, but didn’t provide you with a tire tube incase of a flat. I would not recommend this bike company to others.
Price is good compared to other shops, and the staff was nice, however there are major things to consider. 1. Bikes are not in a great condition. We rented 3 bikes and 2 of them had chain slippage a couple of times in the day we had them. 2. The hybrid bikes did not come with any lights or reflectors! A HUGE safety issue. I would assume that it should not even be legal to rent them out like this. We were not warned about it and only realized it when the sun started to set. Also, just an advice, get the electric bike if you can, unless you are a seasoned mountain biker. Unless you are ready to push the bike up the steep SF streets. Note to management: Reflectors are a couple of bucks and the bike light is $10-15 for a pair at almost any store. I’m sure it’s cheaper if you buy in bulk. Do everyone a favor and put them on your bikes rather than putting people’s live in danger.
One of our family had an accident on the rental bike and was transported to the ER was in intensive care for 4 days. Their only concern was if we were going to get the bikes back before they closed that day. Plus some of our group upgraded to E bikes. I used my credit card on this transaction. Everything else was booked online in advance. Suspicious that my card info was stolen and canceled because someone tried to charge $38,000 on it.
Excellent way to see the sights, went across the Golden gate bridge and made going up steep hills achievable with electric bike. Amazing views.
Easy and convenient way to see the golden gate bridge and park! Bikes were well maintained and staff was friendly and helpful. Great spot!
Very good and friendly service, bikes were in good condition and available in all sizes (my husband is 2m tall!), close to golden gate bridge
Poorly tuned bikes in below average condition. Observed much better bikes on the road from competitors. Weird situation where customers can’t enter the store. Price was reasonable if you don’t mind the lack of quality.
The online booking was super easy and the team were friendly, helpful and quick to get us going. The ride was fantastic but was a challenge for our 8yo with some pretty steep hills which we walked up. No big issue but good to know in advance.
Excellent service, we mixed up our dates and they were happy to accommodate since they did have bikes available. We had our 4 kids with us, ages 9-16. They did great! The views are spectacular!! They are still going on about how much they enjoyed biking through the cities. Something to keep in mind, 2.5 miles from the bike rental to the beginning of the Golden Gate Bridge and 4 miles from the Pier 1 ferry terminal in San Francisco.
Bike in good shape, wonderful care of Mike, very friendly service, highly recommended. Suggest to everybody to bike across the Golden Gate Bridge then down to Sausalito taking the ferry back (check the hours for the ferry).
To start with I was a little unsure about what to expect but after reading reviews I decided to go with these guys. I had one full day to enjoy this amazing city so wanted a bicycle to help me get to where I wanted to see. Right from the start, the location was good and the friendly greeting was very welcome. My bike was selected and presented in no time and after a few do's and dont's I was on my way. I cycled almost 40km enjoying the GG bridge, Sausalito, the ferry crossing, and then across to the west coast - Ocean Beach, to dip my toes in the wild Pacific! Returning the cycle was easy. A thoroughly enjoyable experience!
Great location for bike hire to ride over the bridge and down into Sausalito. Couple of short uphill bits en route but mainly flat or downhill and some great scenery in the golden park at the foot of the bridge and then over the other side. We took the return ferry- suggest you get in the queue about 20-30 minutes before departure time. Bikes were in good working order, helmets provided and friendly service. Definitely something to do on your trip to the city.
This is the second time we’ve hired bikes here to cycle over the bridge. Great, friendly service! We booked online (much quicker and more efficient to do that) our bikes and helmets were handed over immediately on our arrival. The shop is close to the marina so only a few mins ride down to the cycle path at the marina. Both times we cycled over the bridge into Sausalito, had lunch and cycled back. NB. The little pouches in the front of the bikes are very handy, big enough to fold up and hold my puffer jacket and a great place for your phone. Easy to whip out to take a photo! We definitely recommend Golden Gate Bike Rentals. NB.2! There is a parking garage on Lombard Street if you’re driving in, 2 mins from the shop.
We pre-booked three normal bikes and an e-bike which were all ready when we arrived to collect them, seats adjusted quickly for each family member, route advice given and very simple to return. Connor who served us was friendly and very efficient.
The Golden Gate Bridge is the best experience. Tip: it can be cold because of the wind. We went up and down. Because you rent the bikes for the whole day, you van further explore the city and create your own citytrip. Watch out: sometimes it can be vertelt steep.
We were pleased with our experience with Golden Gate Bridge Bike Rental. We showed up a half-hour before our appointment time and were able to get bikes for myself, my wife, and grandson immediately. The staff gave us a clear explanation of the route to take, including the ferry back to San Francisco from Sausalito. The bikes were in great shape and worked well for us. Note that all of the seats on the city touring bikes were somewhat narrow and hard, so do not expect a wide, plush seat. Rental included helmets, locks, a case for holding small items, and a very useful map. A couple of tips for people who want to bike across the the bridge and take the ferry back. First, your starting point is going to be irrelevant because you will be biking back to the bike rental. We chose this rental place partly because it seemed closest to the bridge. However, that meant a somewhat longer bike ride from Pier 41 where the ferry dropped us back to the rental shop, compared to other shops closer to the piers. Fortunately, Golden Gate Bridge Bike Rental assured us that we would have sufficient time to get back to the bike rental if we took the last ferry back, and that they would stay open until 7:00 if necessary (way past their usual 6:30 closing time) to receive our bikes. True to their word, we found them waiting for us at 6:55 when we returned. Another tip is to make sure you get in line early for the last ferry. We saw people lining up an hour before departure, but thought nothing of this, so we casually sat around eating our take-out fish and chips, joining the line minutes before it began to move. When it was our turn to board the ferry, the staff announced that we were the last three persons that could be taken because they were out of room for bike. Goodness knows what the two dozen people behind us did, how we would have returned to SF (we were too tired to bike back over the bridge), or how we would have returned the bikes (because the rental shop would have been closed and we were flying out of SF at 5:40 AM the next day). Repeat: get in line with your bike early! We enjoyed many activities during our week in SF, and this one was definitely a highlight.
Good quality bikes - we booked online and the bikes were ready for us when we arrived. Efficient service. Staff on hand to make adjustments to seat height etc. Great location. Only a couple of blocks from the waterfront and from there you’re on cycle paths all the way to (and across) the Golden Gate Bridge. We set off at 9am, cycled across the bridge to Sausalito and we’re back at 1pm (normal bikes, not e-bikes).
The service is very good and the location as well. Did it twice and can recommend it since I never had problems and it only took some minutes to get the bike. May be a bit more expensive than others.
Check out process was easy, I wish the store told us how to get on the west side of the bridge, we tried 2 times to figure out how to get on the west side of the bridge, but the rite was fun, we ride all the way to Sausalito, then we avoided the big hill of Sausalito, spent $7.60 per person, took public bus( only allow 2 bikes) #30 back to the store.
We had Judy as our guide and she was awesome!!! Her insight and helpfulness was exactly what we needed. Thank you Judy!!!
Great experience, weather was perfect, bike were perfect for riding across the bridge. Great location and very friendly staff, definitely recommend!
Easy pick up and drop off. Quality bikes for the average person, not biker geek. Nice folks, great experience.
It’s really convenient to book your rental online and you save like $2 it’s not much but with the cost of living be Ming so high in California compared to Texas where I am from. That $2 meant everything. But when we got there they knew who we were and got all the bikes out for us. We can’t go inside due to COVID but it’s small anyways and it was a beautiful day outside.
I rented a hybrid bike online for 1 day. Store opened at 9 AM and I got my bike in minutes. Good quality, really nice staff. Best place in town, if you want to bike the Golden Gate Bridge, bc the store is rather close and there‘s only 1 hill to climb. Palace of Fine Arts and Chesnut St. with tons of cafes and restaurants is really close. Best places for the bridge: Fort Point (South) in the morning - see my photo - and Marine Headlands (North) in the afternoon/evening. The bike worked perfectly, good brakes and easy to handle. I was really happy to enjoy a great day with Golden Gate Bike.
After an extensive search for bike hire within Golden Gate bridge area, I decided on booking with Golden Gate Bike rental. Location of shop was key to my decision as I didn't want to be too far away from safe cycle lanes in this busy city. Easy to book in advance - collected on specific date with easy processing, friendly staff and bikes were good quality, safe and well maintained with helmets provided. We wanted to stay local to Golden Gate area so unable to review trip to Sausilito/Ferry aspect. Overall a perfect experience with a professional company ideally situated for riding in/around Golden Gate/Presidio/Crissy Fields and surrounding area.
What an amazing time cycling the Golden Gate Bridge and cycling along the Bay Area, on easy and sturdy bikes. The mountain bikes made it particular easy to be able to ride off the path, on the grass and on the bumpier roads. The views were beautiful and the Bay Area has so many delicious seafood restaurants, ice cream stalls and lots more fun things to do, including the Musée Mécanique, mechanical museum of old arcade games... Thanks so much for a wonderful experience GoldenGateBridge Bike rentals and would definitely recommend doing this trip! 😂 🚵♀️
We booked our bikes with not problem, and when we got there the bikes were ready for us. They were in perfect condition. The staff is very friendly and they gave us advice of the route and some tips to go easily. The shop is very close to the Golden Gate Bridge so you don’t need to cycle so much distance to get there. But it is important to take into account that on the way back from SAusalito, the ferry peer in SF is quite far away of the rental shop, so you would need to cycle quite a long distance. We did not use the ferry on the way back though, so we cycled back to the rental shop and it was a great experience!!!
This place was so fast! The bikes were super clean and staff were great! This was so easy!! We reserved online. We were a bit late for our window due to traffic and they were able to easily accommodate us. They had our bikes perfectly set up for us based on our height that we had submitted. Beware no bathrooms on site, yet they shared many close by locations that we could easily get to. They did have beverages and maps on site. Also if you ride to Sausalito, this rental company is partnered with the Bike return place, so you can drop your bikes off in Sausalito! How convenient!! Would definitely rent from here again!
My husband and I rented bikes from here as a last minuet idea. We were able to book the bikes the night before, the website was very easy to use and really quick. When we got there our bikes were all ready and waiting for us outside. In the little bags attached onto the bikes we had a bike lock which came in very handy. The staff here were very helpful and even though they were busy anticipated what we would need and what we would ask. They told us about some excellent routes as well as the laws (we are from the UK so not very familiar with US biking laws). We went for the comfortable bike option, which was a good bike for going over the Golden Gate Bridge. When we got back to the shop once again the staff were quick to greet us, to check over the bike and thanked us for using their company. I really liked how quick they were and how organised the workers were. I would absolutely recommend and use again.
i booked this activity online a few days in advance, which was convenient and easy, and also for a discount. Upon arriving at the shop, getting bikes and our gear was quick and easy. She made sure the seats were adjusted for us and attended to fixing some minor squeaks of the brakes. She helped with helmets also. Good info about the ride and the ferries back. We rode as far as Tiburon, about 20miles total. Having decent, working bikes made all the difference.
Enjoyable experience with these guys. Bike was comfortable and got superb support in choosing a suitable bike from Kevin.
Great cycle, great staff, excellent service. Would highly recommend this store in particular. Very welcoming bunch and it was great that the workers took the time to explain the hidden gems and gave genuinely helpful information not just for the cycle but the city in general!
We rented a tandem. The process was smooth and quick, the bike was quite good, light and 27 gears for hill climbing. Everything was going well until we got a flat at the southern end of the Golden Gate Bridge as we starting our trip across. A call to the shop was not very helpful-basically, "you're on your own". No apology for being unable to offer any sort of assistance beyond recommendations for bike repair shops. After returning to the shop, we were told that we would not be reimbursed for the cost of the repair since we hadn't purchased insurance. Insurance should apply only to accidents, negligence, etc., not routine problems such as a flat tire. Overall, customer service could have been a bit more gracious but the bike itself was quite good and the location very convenient.
The rental process was pretty easy and hassle-free. The bikes were in excellent condition. Lili & Miguel were super helpful and had plenty of tips for getting around.
The bikes were in excellent condition and very comfortable. A helmet is provided. The staff is very friendly and will explain everything you need to know: stuff regarding the bikes, how to ride in traffic, the best path to the bridge, the best places to go... etc etc etc. I felt the price was a bit steep but I guess it was worth since it was the closest place to the bridge. Don't miss out on the bridge, i's a wonderfull view of SF. you can also cross it walking.
After searching through a few bike rental companies in SF, we decided to go through Golden Gate Bridge Bike Rentals located on Lombard Street, and glad we did! The rental process was quick and easy, a short ride to the bike path down by Crissy Field and the bikes were great. Staff were super friendly, nothing to fault and would definitely hire with them again!
The online reservation was quick and easy. We went to pick up the bikes for the store opening time. They were late opening which was a little annoying. My husband's bike was fine. My bike, on the other hand, didn't shift well, the chain and sprocket was rusty.
We rent bikes for 1 days for all our family (young & kids bike) and we really appreciated the service and smile of Golden Gate Bidge Rental Bike! They offer advise, information, and we enjoyed our tour (marina, cross the famous Golden Gate Bridge, close to the shop, Sausalito downtown so nice to eat, ferry to Fisherman, and return long away the ocean.....). Total: 6 hour taking our time. We recommend! For more our prices are really. competitives
The process of picking up the bikes was fast and painless. One of our bikes got a flat tire after we were about three miles into our trip, just about to cross the bridge. I called back to the shop and they ran a replacement bike out to us in about 20 minutes. We were very impressed with the service and enjoyed our day crossing the bridge into Sausalito.
Saturday rental- We arrived at 9:10am (when shop opened) on the dot and were out by 9:20am. Lady behind the desk asked for my confirmation #, I pulled it up on phone, signed 1 document & headed right to the Golden Gate Bridge. GO EARLY!! IT's WORTH IT! On our way back there were hundreds of bikes (no exaggeration) heading to the bridge and I can't even imagine the madhouse that was trying to cross. Bikes were comfortable and the customer service was nice. Would rent again during the week since they open at 8am on Mon - Fri.
We booked in the morning via WiFi and came to the shop. They asked a receipt or a screenshot of the confirmation. I didn't have this and they made a problem out of this. In this day and age I expect businesses to get the confirmation via e-mail or in their system and they can look it up with my name. This was not the case and I had to activate my cellular 3G to download the confirmation from my e-mail. This triggered some other downloads as well and I ended up downloading 5mb in the USA which cost me €5,- per mb and €25,- in total as a Dutch resident. Not only the impatience from the woman behind the counter was annoying but also the fact she didn't want to give us a WiFi network to download the confirmation. Everytime I tried to ask something she didn't listen or just respond with the same answer; "I really need the confirmation". She was rude and not flexible at all. Be aware as a tourist and don't go in here without a confirmation or you'll be treated very badly. Also you have to sign a waiver which is about one A4 page to read. After 30 seconds she asked; are you done yet? As if i'm not reading the waiver and just sign it. Apart from the experience in the store the bikes were fairly good. The saddles were a bit to hard so after 3 / 4 hours of biking you'll get sore.
My family and I recently rented bikes to explore the San Fran waterfront, and to cycle across the Golden Gate Bridge. The employees were awesome; they were all informative, friendly, and helpful. The employees and the ideal location of the store made it an overall wonderful experience for us. Thank you!
My wife and I recently visited this bike rental place so we could cycle across the Golden Gate Bridge and explore a lot of San Francisco. We received a very friendly and helpful welcome and decided to book online to save a few $$. The booking system was easy and the day rate was affordable. I was a little disappointed in the quality of bikes but this IS a rental and certainly beats walking. The bike I was riding actually broke just after I made a return trip across the bridge. My wife got on the phone to the Rental staff and they were more than happy to come out to deliver a new rental bike at no extra charge....disclaimer....we did pay the additional $4 damage waiver BEFORE we took the bikes from the shop. This incredible customer service helped us complete our cycle tour and allowed us to see almost the entire city in a day. I highly recommend this place, especially being so close to the bridge.
We had a great time on our tandem, would recommend SF city bike rental. Just consider the return journey on the ferry well in advance, if that's what you're doing.
Superb. Excellent bikes, great helmets, friendly and helpful staff. Ideally situated for cycling to Golden Gate Bridge and The Presidio. We returned 3 times during our holiday in September 2017. Highly recommended.
