This was so much fun, exciting, and educational. It was a bit scary at times. The hills in San Francisco are no joke lol. I got off track a few time but that added to the adventure. I did the 3 hour tour and it went very quickly.
A great tour! You get to see a lot while driving a fun little vehicle yourself. It's a unique and enjoyable way to explore the area. Two suggestions for improvement: - Install more suncream in all areas that are not covered on your body, as you can catch a lot of sun during the ride. - 3 hours is short; Allow a bit more time at the stops so participants have enough time to get out, walk around, and enjoy the sights.
My partner and I rented the Go Car Classic for the early bird special of 3 hours in SF. It was such a blast and what a fun and exciting way to explore the city!! It was my partner's first time in SF so this was perfect to get a lay of the land and a general idea of what the northern part of the city has to offer. The audio tour was interesting and the GPS navigation started off great but we ended up getting a little lost towards the end. It was our fault for getting distracted, but we got back on track with plenty of time to complete the tour. My favorite part was the crooked Lombard Street! Best type of vehicle to go down that insane road!! Just watch out for the pedestrians, it's crazy how they can pay no attention and stand in the middle street.
It was fun to see at a different level and view. GPS was helpful. Only complaint is made turn directions a little late at times, but all worked out in the end.
What a fun way to see the city! The route was easy to follow and hit many beautiful and interesting areas. The car was easy and fun to drive, although a bit of a tight fit for 2 adults. The audio guide was good, however the map on the screen was almost impossible for the driver to see. The staff was helpful and the check-in/check out process simple. We really recommend this for anyone looking for a fun way to explore SF. We are locals from the East Bay and really enjoyed seeing the City in this way for our anniversary outing.
The GoCar Tour was super fun and unique. We did the 3 hour option which was a bit much for us. We would have been fine with 2 hours. We saw tons of great sites, more than we could have seen on our own. The ‘cars’ actually operate like a motorcycle as far as steering and accelerating so the breaking is done with hand brakes. There were some spots that were tricky as you can’t reverse without getting out of the car and pushing It backwards. . This activity is not for the timid as you’re on the main streets with normal traffic. The max speed for the GoCars is 30 mph which is the speed normal vehicles can go but the regular vehicles are so much larger. Overall, great experience. Lots of fun.
We thoroughly enjoyed the drive around the city. Was nice to have no pressure to meet a schedule, skipping things we weren’t interested in while staying as long as we liked at others. The electric two seater we chose, with side by side seats, was perfect. Car selection can be confusing as they offer quite a few. Make sure you know what you are booking because you’ll start the paperwork all over if you change. The little yellow one is small and noisy, we felt the upgrade was worth it. NOTE, there is an electric two seater with front and back seat, not side by side. Also, be prepared for a little paperwork and a safety video, takes about 30 minutes to be on the road. Would do it again.
Easy to follow the GPS with clear mapping and instructions. We went to locations that we wouldn’t have visited otherwise
Fun way to see the sights with navigation to the most interesting sight seeing places,. Friendly, helpful staff/organisers
We had such a great day! Wasn’t sure what to expect as we’d been on two other types of tours. However, the freedom to choose stops on your tour & routes that really interest you made the experience stand out. We would definitely go again. Our day was rainy but the car was warm & cozy. We found new spots we’d like to explore further. The staff were a pleasure to work with. Definitely plan to go again and again as well as recommend to friends & family!
We hired the GoCar Zero Max & it was fantastic! Very easy to drive and follow the talking Sat Nav. Lots of opportunities to stop to take photos. We had it from 10-1 on an early bird offer. 3 hours wasn’t enough and kept it for an extra hour, even then another hour would’ve been better. We usually do an open top bus tour, we done one in Italy last year and it was awful so wanted a different way to see the city. GoCar was great, went to places that an open top bus doesn’t go, better tourist information given and no hanging about waiting for another bus to come along. I’d really recommend this and will do again in other locations I visit in the future.
We didn’t have a lot of time in San Francisco so the early bird 3 hour tour was a great way to get out & see a LOT of sights while having fun! I would do it again if we had more time, so we could make more stops at the shops & restaurants along the way. Tip: if you are tall or overweight I’d recommend the electric car (zeromax). I’m 6’4” and the classic Go Car was cramped but not horrible. And if you are very overweight this car isn’t for you.
I don't think we stopped laughing/smiling the entire time. We had so much fun. The tour was easy to navigate and the go-carts were so fun. They even had Mariokart costumes for us to use.
We’d been planning a San Francisco trip for awhile and I was all over TripAdvisor looking for ideas and reviews. I came across this GoCar thing and thought it looked like a fun way to see the city. Yes!! So glad we did this. We did an early bird (3 hours for the price of 2 hours) tour and I’d really recommend going this route. In hindsight I spent a lot of time mulling over which tour to take…honestly just pick how long you want to be in the car - 3 hours worked well for us; got to see a lot and didn’t feel too rushed - unless there’s a specific site that you feel you HAVE to see from this tour. You can always go to more places, but 3hr was a nice tour around major city landmarks. Fisherman’s Wharf, Golden Gate Bridge, Presidio, Land’s End, Golden Gate Park, Haight Asbury, Lombard Street, Coit Tower. You have a bit of time to get out and take pictures if you want, or time to take optional detours. Ultimately they charge you (I think $1/minute?) overtime if you return the car past 3 hours, so keep track of your time. We felt like the car was very easy to drive. There’s nothing to do with your feet, just hand breaks and a throttle to go forward (turning more to go faster, less to go slower). It doesn’t reverse (or have any other gears); to reverse you’d get out and manually push the car back, as you would a car in neutral. We only did this once to get out of a parking space. ALSO - we are from Central Florida and we had heard San Francisco was cold in July but we were like…ummmm okay sure. YES IT IS. On the day of our tour (9am-noon, foggy but no rain or anything) I wore a long sleeve shirt, zip up sweater, rainjacket, AND we had to buy gloves and a scarf in a gift shop! I would absolutely recommend to bring gloves if you get cold hands, and even a neck gaiter or something. My whole face was red in the cold wind as we rode around. Last of my recommendations - I’d suggest riding two to a car instead of having your own, so that one of you can navigate. The screen is hard to read in the sun and you might have difficulty if you’re doing it on your own. Do this tour! We’ve already recommended it to others.
Amazing way to see San Francisco at a pace you control. Cars are very easy to drive and staff very helpful. Would really recommend doing the early bird tour as the traffic is lighter. Great experience and great value.
Making reservations was easy, the staff were helpful, and the dash-mounted tour system was great in guiding our trip! It was nice being able to stop at locations we were interested in - a great benefit of a directed tour taken at your own pace. Highly recommend the experience!
This was the best and most amazing trip we have been on. It was so informative and took you to places no other tour takes you. Do not miss out. Had we had time we would definitely do it again.
What a memorable experience! We saw things in San Francisco we would have never seen if it wasn’t for this tour. The views were incredible and my husband and I had an absolute blast! We went with another couple and had many laughs at stop lights and stop signs. lol We did the three hr tour and we were amazed the sites we were able to see in that time. The GPSpad is very easy to follow and I would recommend paying the extra for the up grade. I highly recommend this trip and would make the time to do it if it’s not in your plans yet.
Had so much fun on our GoCar tour. Unique way to learn about the city. We only had one day in San Francisco so we wanted to maximize our time and this was a perfect way for us to see and learn about SF but on our own time too. Navigation worked well and we learned a lot from the narration We were glad we did it early in the day.
The GoCars are small and outdated, and the GPS was antiquated, the staff and check in experience were great but I suggest the upgrade to the larger electric vehicle
Exhilarating start to our holiday. Fun , informative, bit scary, definitely crazy ! Saw some great sites which I would not have known. Great staff too .
Best thing to do in San Francisco to see the most beautiful places! We startet at 11am and was good traffic condition then.
Easy to use. Tour was informative and easy to follow. We did three hour tour but could have easily did the day tour and spent more time at all points of interest.
Great and exciting way to tour. Didn’t know there were two tours. Would have loved knowing more sights rather than gg bridge and parks.
Really fun quirky way to see the city. Ultimately you are in control of how much time you spend at different landmarks and sites.
These little yellow gocars are so much fun and the earlybird deal great value. We only had 36hours in the city so this was a great and fun way to see lots of tourist spots in a few hours being able to stop for a quick photo opportunity at lots of places at our own leisure.
My son and I had a blast! So much fun touring the city with an audio guide as we went at our own pace. What a great memory! Definitely recommend
The views were incredible along the route. Really fun driving around the city in your go car. Extremely easy to follow the sat nav also. One of the best ways to see the sights of San Francisco. Would highly recommend.
We gave this 9/10. We absolutely loved exploring the city this way. We had so much fun! The only not so great thing was that check in was very unorganized.
OMG!!! My family enjoyed this experience!!! We could not have asked for a more beautiful day with an experience that allowed us to take it all in. The staff was friendly, the navigation was simple and informative. Next time we will do the entire day, because 3 hours wasn't enough time to get it all in.
Great tour of the city with accompanying commentary bringing it to life . Fun going down the iconic Lombard street .
It was a must do experience however, our navigation system in the car stopped working about an hour before returning. We ended up having to use our own, which caused us to be on roads we should not have been. They wanted to refund us but could not because we booked externally through viator. I would strongly recommend booking directly through the company in case of problems.
It should be written in BOLD letters that they will take $500 as a deposit!!! I didn't see that anywhere! The GPS should be interactive! It was hard to hear especially with all the noise around, drivers should be given a headset. The map should have an option if you are out of track, and should warn when to make a left or right, not when you are at the intersection! as it is hard to make turns right at the corner if you are not on the proper lane!!
While I had a lot of fun on the GoCar tour, there are a few things that keep me from giving the whole experience a 5 out of 5. The people checking you in and the person telling you about the route were not the friendliest. I understand they were probably a little overwhelmed with a lot of people checking in and what not, but good customer service is crucial especially during busy times. As you're checking in you are informed of a $500 deposit hold that’s placed on your card if you do not wish to purchase insurance. I realized this deposit was not mentioned until after I booked and got my email confirmation… it was in the fine print that I am sure no one reads. This deposit is not mentioned anywhere on the website, but there is mention of an insurance sale for $26. As a consumer, this is a little deceiving. FYI: The card you use for the deposit, is also the card they will charge if you go over on time. ($1 per minute you go over your tour time.) Once you’re checked in, you watch a video to tell you how to use the carts and go over the rules and safety precautions, and when you're done you step outside where an instructor shows you again how to use the cart. The carts are like motorcycles, so you don't have to step on the brakes with your feet. The carts have a full tank of gas and are equipped with a little navigation system that shows and tells you where you are going. Once you start the tour, it's all at your own pace. The navigation system tells you stories as you get to specific points on the tour and it's actually a nice little entertaining as you drive around. The con of the navigation system: It will have ALL routes on it, not just your specific route. Personally, I would have liked the navigation system to have the specific tour we paid for, because it’s easy to get lost with so many routes. Especially if you're assigned a specific car when you check in. I also noticed that if you end up on a street that’s not on the designated routes, the system will stop talking, so be aware of this little issue that may arise. The tour itself is a fun little experience. You get to drive through various places you normally wouldn’t, and you get to park and walk around if you want to spend a little time in a specific area or take pictures if you’d like. I did a 3 hour tour, and I ended up needing more time! =) I would recommend this tour, if you are looking for something fun to do for the day. Just be aware of the deposit, the price you pay if you go over your time, and the fact that the GPS system can get a little confusing since it has all the routes on it.
My third time in SF and I saw things on this tour and in a way I’ve never been able to do by renting a car or taking a big bus tour. The cars are relatively easy to maneuver, the “tour guide” gives great information as you go. Tip: wear sunscreen…it’s so breezy you won’t realize your are getting sunburn. Also have a phone with you with your own GPS in case you go off course you can find your way back! I would highly recommend, and I would do this in other cities as well
Trip Advisor hadn't sent the booking to the office so we had to wait an hour on the phone to get it sorted. The weather was miserable and the hire company did not have the option to hire a blanket or gloves. The directions were unclear and hard to hear, but if you turned up the volume, you got blasted when music played. Often you were told about something to look at as you went past it and did not have a chance to prepare for it or find some where to park. The car was dirty, both outside and in. I doubt they spray the helmets between customers either. And there was no extra information or assistance about road rules, etc for international drivers, we were just left to our own devices. There was no timer on the GPS so we had no idea how much time we had left of our purchased time period, which was none after we had gotten lost due to the poor directions.
We were in CA for a graduation and only had one day to explore San Francisco; this was perfect. We took advantage of the early bird special and got an extra hour free for booking right when they opened. It was not busy and we did not have to wait. We did have an issue with the sound, but we returned straight away to the office and they got us quickly in a new car. The GPS routes were easy to follow and we never were stuck in traffic or felt that we were not safe. We were amazed at the sights and loved being able to start and stop whenever we wanted. The GPS was perfect giving us directions and information about the sights. We did learn quickly to pause at a location when we wanted to hear more because if you drive past the location, the audio stops giving details about the location and starts giving you driving directions again.
It was nice to book an early tour to use the buggys around the city because it has lesser traffic, and you get a free hour!:) We went to the famous spots and it the GPS led the way! it was nice that the GPS has audio and can be loud enough that it will tell you which way to turn and with corresponding tips, facts and warnings. Wish I could bring my dog with us though. Overall very fun, a must, and perfect for those who dont have a car with them and has little time to tour the whole city! Just be careful with these motored ones because it can't reverse, you'll have to get out of the buggy and push it backwards, etc. They will prompt you with instructions and a handy map.
Really great experience, definitely a must! There’s so much to see and learn from San Francisco and the guided tour does a hell of a job!
Great way to see places the tour buses do not get to. Very scary at first and driving on some busy roads, but the GPS works really well and many people took photos of us as they thought we were a novelty. Loved driving down Lombard Street. Be aware these do not reverse so you have to get out and push/ pull.
My 7yr Daughter and I did this on our annual mother-daughter trip, it was our favorite activity. We were able to quickly see the city. It was also great because she quickly became tired walking all of San Francisco. Definitely a Great memory!
The GoCars were a really fun way to see San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge. I would recommend this activity
This was a blast. We used to live locally and we saw places we didn’t even know existed. We will definitely bring our other kids back and do it again.
My husband and I enjoyed this self guided tour. It was unique and fun. We got to see the whole city in half of a day and return to our favorite sites for an extended visit on our own the next day. I would do this again with my older children on a future trip.
This made our holiday, best thing we did over the 10 days so much fun!! and a memory you will all have for life, worth every penny! and you see every landmark....and most importantly we can now all say we DROVE down Lombard Street.......
Perfect way to see all the sites efficiently. The golden gate is impressive but I particularly just liked driving and getting a feel for the different neighborhoods
I highly recommend this activity ! The route guidance and your narration is excellent . We took advantage of the early bird special 3 hours for the price of two and it was a perfect amount of time to see the highlights of San Francisco ! We had great views of the city , bridges, parks, architecture, and finished by driving down the crooked street of Lombard Street . When you compare the price to the giant tour buses , this personal tour is a great value ! So glad we did it !
My favorite thing we did in san francisco. HOWEVER was initially very scary because they dont really show you how to drive these cars. The instructional video was awful/broken with audio issues and the instructors were not very helpful before sending you out alone on the road.
What a fantastic experience! We did this on our second day in the city and absolutely loved it! What a fun a super informative way to see so much of the city we wouldn’t have otherwise. The car was fun to drive and ride in, and the actual tour covered so much - you definitely need three hours! We want to do this everywhere we travel now! Great customer service, easy to book, fantastic men working at the rental location. Highly recommend! So this if your new to the city, or even live here - I guarantee you’ll learn something new!
