Doug was excellent. He was very knowledgeable about the many sights we saw. He gave good recommendations for additional things to see & also restaurants. It was nice to have the small group (10 people). Doug volunteered to take everyone's pictures at the scenic sites. He allotted enough time at the sites to be able to appreciate them. I highly recommend this tour.

This small island was once a fort, a military prison, and a maximum security federal penitentiary. Alcatraz Island is the site of the abandoned federal prison, the oldest operating lighthouse on the West Coast of the United States, early military fortifications, and natural features such as rock pools and a seabird colony (mostly western gulls, cormorants, and egrets). It measures 1,675 feet (511 m) by 590 feet (180 m) and is 135 feet (41 m) at highest point during mean tide.[5] The total area of the island is reported to be 22 acres (8.9 ha).[1] Landmarks on the island include the Main Cellhouse, Dining Hall, Lighthouse, the ruins of the Warden's House and Social Hall, Parade Grounds, Building 64, Water Tower, New Industries Building, Model Industries Building, and the Recreation Yard. The boat back to the city depart every 30 minutes.

Very knowledgeable on had interesting stuff to say about the city. Would do this again, if I travel there again.
Guide was very friendly and well unformed. Even giving recommendations for local places to eat. Overall great experience.
Good tour. It was a little mixed up because of Fleet Week, which we found out happens every year in October.
Expect to learn a little history about San Francisco. Also, plan for at least 4 hours for the city tour.
Really informative tour of San Fran, our tour guide Michael was very knowledgeable. It was a small group which enhanced the experience.
The pick up time was off by 50 minutes after 4 times confirming it Alcatraz tour was to be first, changed with no explanation. City tour wasn’t as expected or advertised. Our tour guide was very irritating speaking in different voices, arms waving in the air while driving constantly looking in the rear view mirror at us. After your was done he confronted the first three of our group about not leaving a tip and giving him a good review instead. I was last out of the van and had the tip. When I said we were together and I had the tip, he tried hugging me, putting his arms around me. It was very weird and uncomfortable. I would not recommend him as a driver.
Great day! I highly recommend this tour. We had 5 passengers in total along with the driver/tour guide. Our driver was extremely knowledgeable and ensured everyone had plenty of opportunities to take pictures ask questions.
Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and polite. We were very impresses with the in-depth history our tour guide provided.
The tour time and itinerary were subject to change, and we were not notified of the changes until the night before. The tour was scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m., which gave us very little time to adjust our transportation arrangements. In addition, the driver was late for pickup and did not contact us until after we had requested a partial refund. Overall the customer was not great
It’s amazing to learn so much history when you visit landmarks such as this. Alcatraz is definitely a landmark to visit while being in San Francisco.
It’s a part of history that everyone should know about. The entire tour was just amazing and very interesting. I think the best part was actually meeting Mr. Baker and purchasing his book.
Awesome saw a lot of places and the duo with Alcatraz is perfect combination definitely a must do if your here
The experience was wonderful. Buddy our tour guide for the San Francisco tour was very knowledgeable and friendly.
This was an audio tour. It was interesting to hear about all the history of Alcatraz & some of the more notable prisoners.
No time for food. Normal stopping place closed on Monday, we were not told of this prior to departure.
Buddy our guide was the best- very kind, personable and knowledgeable about SF; covered historical facts and interesting information about all the points of interest in the city. The Alcatraz portion was also excellent. Total experience 5 stars! True value!
We took the tour with Buddy and it was good as he brought us around San Francisco to all the major sights and the dropped us off at Alcatraz for the tour. The only draw back was no time for lunch other than eating something on the run.
Our tour guide Doug was not very good. Didn’t see half the stuff on the itinerary. Hey took us to a place and said you have 20 minutes to get food and the food choices were either $20 ham sandwich or a $20 turkey sandwich. I am worried that my next couple trips will be with him and have to deal with his not so pleasant experience. He then dropped us off to go to our Alcatraz tour and got mad because I didn’t have any cash on me for a tip. Did not know that I was supposed to have cash on me and let alone tip for a disappointing tour.
Jerry was amazing during the city tour!! Fun and very knowledgeable. Alcatraz was fun- self guided audio tour.
At first was confused because I thought Alcatraz was last, but Jerry was amazing. Grew up here and very knowledgeable. Great learning about the city!!
Such an experience! Tour guide was so lovely and friendly and professional! Very knowledgeable also. Highly recommend.
Don't waste time w/the bus part of the tour. This was one was a bust. Late pick up of 1/2 hour and bathroom stop for the driver first thing! Started the tour about 9:15am. He displayed a sign above his head that implied it was customary that the total amount of gratuity is 20% of the total bill we paid for the tour. Tour description stated water would be included - there was none. (we - and the others, would have brought our own if we knew). Not anything exciting or informative about San Francisco that we didn't already know - like the earthquake). He did share his personal opinion on politics as it relates to the leadership of the city, the dislike of AI along with the "techies" of San Francisco and how they ruined the architecture of the city. Drove us to 2 stops that are no longer allowed by the city (signs posted that no tour buses are allowed) so we had to hop off the bus...take our pics and he circled back around to pick us up right away. Drove past Robin Williams house that seemed important to the driver (which was under major construction and covered in tarps). He flew through the parts of the city worth stopping at i.e. the Haite and Ashbury area with some of the most beautiful murals, and drove quickly through Chinatown. The frosting on the cake was how proud he was to take us through the "tenderloin" area and how the smart politicians created housing for the homeless drug addicts. Which by the way, were doing drugs on the street as we drove by! The only saving grace was the AMAZING Alcatraz tour (which he had nothing to do with).
We were very happy with our tour of the city. We actually had the owner of the company as our guide. He was very knowledgeable of the area and kept us laughing too. We were happy to have booked with Viator. Would recommend.
Michael was a great tour guide. Very knowledgeable and a great sense of humor. Bring snacks and water, because we didn’t stop for lunch.
Fantastic tour of San Francisco city. Our tour guide Randy was very knowledgeable and friendly. We feel that we’ve really seen the city and all the districts, learned the history and had a real San Francisco experience. The Alcatraz tour topped off the experience. We’ve had such an amazing day and highly recommended this trip.
Great small group experience (8 guests on this tour). Our guide Buddy was extremely knowledgeable and took plenty of time to answer questions. His insights about San Francisco history were fascinating. The owners also went ABOVE and BEYOND to assist us in unintended scheduling snafu's. Highly recommend.
Very comprehensive tour of the city and all the places we wanted to see. We appreciated the opportunity to get out and take pictures as well as bathroom breaks. The amount of time was adequate and we were able to see if we wanted to visit anywhere again.
Jerry was just phenomenal with his expertise of the San Francisco history. It was a great morning! He kept the teenagers interested too!
Excellent tour, very informative and interesting. Stopped at various stops for pictures and ended with tour to Alcatraz, where you will be on your own at that point.
Our tour was very good & informative. Michael was great. Just fyi, the tour is advertised as 8-10 hours but it is 7 including 3 hours at Alcatraz.
Michael was exceptional and very knowledgeable,, Highly recommend this tour and we felt like we had seen the best of the City
Was great way to see the city. Buddy took us around in his comfortable van. He was funny and informative.
Unfortunately, there was poor communication from the beginning. It wasn't clear whether you were to meet with a guide from the beginning and turns out part of the tour you were on your own. This would have been fine but that was never communicated. The itinerary when you purchased the tour waa different from what actually occurred so it was hard to know where to go and what times. I received several text messages with conflicting times of when to meet. I kept sending messages and didn't alwas get a response. The tour guide, Michael, was very rude at times. At one point, someone expressed they needed a bathroom and his reply was "well I can't create a bathroom". He was lucky the passengers were respectful but he definitely needs training on dealing with customers. Overall, I did not think it was worth what we paid.
Our tour guide, Randy, was what made our city tour so impressive! He put his personal touches and experience into everything he took us to. He gave human interest information that we might never have found out. He even showed us his personal pictures of what the building look like at different holidays. He played songs from the 70’s by the artists whose houses he took us by. The Alcatraz part was perfect length of time to see the island and do the self guided tour. We would highly recommend this tour for those who are visiting San Francisco for the first time.
I had booked this trip for my senior citizen parents (aged 65 yrs) and they enjoyed it thoroughly. Randy was a fantastic guide. Due to a week day, they were the only participants which made it more like a private tour. Would surely recommend everyone.
Very enjoyable, informative tour, our tour guide had a detailed and extensive knowledge of San Francisco, and was very professional and friendly in his dealings with us.
Randy was a fantastic guide. Almost 4 hours private tour very gentil and instructive. I strong recomend this tour for everybody that want to discover San Francisco.
We did a City/Alcatraz combo tour the Monday before Thanksgiving, so we had Randy the tour guide to ourselves and the streets were generally clear of traffic, which was great and made for a full day. Randy drove us around in a minivan, which wasn’t as charming or memorable as a double-decker bus but which did allow us to cruise around parts of San Francisco that other companies’ larger vehicles wouldn’t have been able to navigate. (In fact, if you were thinking of moving to SF, this would have been the best way to explore neighborhoods and get some keen real estate insights from the friendly, chatty and highly knowledgeable Randy.) We saw all the tourist highlights in a reasonable amount of time, could personalize the agenda as needed, got several restaurant recommendations and were dropped off seamlessly at the Alcatraz ferry terminal with plenty of time to grab lunch before boarding. Alcatraz itself was also very much worthwhile - though it certainly helped that we had perfect weather and moderate crowds. It’s nice that you’re not tied to a particular ferry schedule once you’re there and can take as much or as little time on the island as you’d like and self-guide around the facility at your own pace. When we got back to the terminal, we headed straight for the North Beach pizza place Randy had suggested and ended the day with two absolutely delectable slices….
There's a lot of History talking and foto stops to enjoy our trip. Tour Guide very friendly and make us all to fill like home. Excellent driver. We even have the time to grab a delicious Mexican Hot Dog 🌭
Great tour. Guide took us to all the right spots for excellent pictures. He was very knowledgable about history of buildings
Alcatraz was a great experience. The history of Alcatraz was very interesting. The only thing that was crazy was all of the flies. I guess because the weather was warm the flies were in abundance. You had to use paper fans to try to keep them off you.
Randy provided us with a very comprehensive and informative tour of San Francisco, it's clear he is proud of his city. We saw so many great sites and covered much more than expected. Alcatraz tour was interesting. We appreciate that the tour operator coordinated this for us. A great day from start to finish.
A great way to see the city. Covers most of the tourist sites and more. Enjoyable 4 hours and takes the stress out of walkers the hills
Good overview of San Francisco with stops at Dolores Mission park and the Painted Ladies. Beautiful view point over the Golden Gate Bridge albeit shrouded in fog when we were there. The Alcatraz trip was fabulous!
Our tour guide is very familiar with the history of the city and explained very clearly, which helped us get to know the city better. Really highly recommended! However, the volume of our guide was a little too small for us to hear when we sat in the back seat!
Amazing tour well worth the money not to be missed. The tour around san francisco was a small group our driver took us to great spots for photos.
The company very kindly rearranged our trip, Due to flight issues. We arrived too late to take the original and it was reorganised for 2 days later. The only extra charges were due to the Alcatraz tickets only good for the original date. We were very grateful for this. Randy, our driver, was a gentleman and very informative. We were picked up in a car with extra seats in the back, where we sat, due to 4 people on the tour. The windows in the back are not the biggest (legroom was fine). This was the only small issue for the tour. The advantage was as a car we could go where larger vehicles are not allowed. We seen most of the city. We'd liked to of went across the Golden Gate bridge, but we seen it from every other angle. Alcatraz was organised very well. After being dropped off by Randy at the Pier, we had a while to grab a bite to eat before the boat across. We spent about 2.5 hours on the island, seeing everything on offer, plus an audio tour of the prison area. Over all a 5☆ trip.
Randy was amazing. Took us everywhere. So knowledgeable about the area. The tour was fantastic. Brought us right to where we needed to be for Alcatraz
Great inside Tour to San Francisco. Very knowledgeable guide driver Jerry. A few stops for photo opportunities. Would have liked a couple more but I am greedy. Alcatraz was good. Having tickets prepaid with the tour tickets helped.
