Its a really nice hotel. Everything was well organized, even room service breakfast. Food prices were a bit high but portions were good size. Loved the free drinks from 5-6. Nice touch to get people out of their rooms.

I had a great experience at this hotel. The rooms are clean and the staff are excellent. I mistakenly booked for the weekend before my actual arrival, and they made a stressful situation far less so, going above and beyond to resolve a mistake that, realistically, they had no obligation or incentive to resolve. I am incredibly appreciative of the staff and management. Additionally, the location is incredibly convenient—a block away from Union Square and a 5 minute walk to BART and Muni.
The hotel is in a good location and the rooms are big. The staff from the doormen to the front desk are nice and helpful. The gym is standard for a hotel with typical equipment and a good size. I would have rated the hotel better but my room was dirty and cleanliness when staying in a hotel is very important. My room smelled like fast food, there was dried toothpaste all over the facet and sink. Dust all over the bathroom and crumbs on the ledge near the tv and ice bucket. Basically, it looked like someone quickly tried to turn over the room and didn’t do a basic cleaning which is disappointing.
I don't think this hits the (high) mark of a JW Marriott. The staff is excellent and the service certainly closes the gap, but the hotel is quite tired. The rooms are in good shape, the bed is comfortable, the bathroom feels upscale, but it just feels and looks old and past its heyday. I would go back, but I'd just return with lowered expectations.
JW once was the jewel in Union Square area of SF in term of lodging. I know many managers and friends with good taste chose it when they are in SF for conferences. Hardwares are very good, very clean, staring to aging a little bit. The transparent elevators are nice. We paid extra for high level and city view. We were there in the afternoon and it didn’t look very busy. The lady gave us a room barely qualified for high level and it faces another building’s gym. I guess that is so-so treatment for layback guests, even they have many rooms in higher levels with good views. We enjoyed SF anyway, while we will choose another Union Square hotel next time.
