We leave the city of Salzburg behind on our way to the Lake District. Your private guide will explain about the city of Salzburg and how it for many years it was a independent principality, ruled by the Catholic Church and the importance of Salt and how it influenced the growth of the city. Other points of interest will be explained on route to Hallstatt. You will enjoy our off the beaten track over the mountains where you can enjoy unspoiled scenery.
Walk down to the emerald green Lake Fuschl, capture a picture of the castle Fuschl a former hunting lodge of the Prince Archbishops, built in 1450. Enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding mountains that frame the lake.
Admire the beautiful architecture of the Red Bull headquarters and see one of the largest cast bronze sculptures in Europe.
Enjoy dramatic views above the Lake Wolfgang and the town of St. Gilgen. This is the area that was shown during the opening scene of the Sound of Music. You also have a view to the Schafberg where Maria and the children took the train up to the picnic meadow.
See the town center of St. Gilgen, including town hall, Mozart fountain and the birth place of Mozart's mother.
In Hallstatt, your private guide will point out all the hidden gems of the town, which include a beautiful photo spot of Hallstatt, Charnel House (Bone House), Hallstatt Museum, Hallstatt Waterfall "Waldbachstrub", the Sky View Platform, Hallstatt's local residence area and more. You will have 2 hours to explore Hallstatt with all its sights, as well as have lunch at one of the beautiful lake side restaurants in Hallstatt (lunch not included in price).
Optional: Take the train up to the Skywalk. When you stand on the “Skywalk”, Hallstatt lies right there at your feet. You look down on the world-famous World Heritage town, the cradle of the Hallstatt Period. Sparkling mystically, Hallstätter See nestles up against the medieval town like a fjord, flanked wonderfully by the spectacular panoramas of the Dachstein.
Optional: The oldest salt mine in the world, Europe’s oldest wooden staircase and the free-floating Skywalk with its “World Heritage View”, 360 meters above the ground: Hallstatt Salt Mine is a mine of superlatives. Come with us on a journey of discovery, back to the very beginnings of salt mining some 7,000 years ago, and experience the history of Bronze Age mining, recounted today in spectacular fashion thanks to state-of-the-art multimedia technology, including a Bronze Age Cinema 400 meters below ground. Here, you will experience up-close the very breath of history. Welcome to Hallstatt Salt Mine!
Optional: After a breathtaking cable car ride, walk around 20 minutes to one of the most spectacular viewing platforms in the Alps that reaches out like a hand over the 400 m drop. From 5 platforms (the 5fingers), each in a different design, you can put your head for heights to the test and enjoy unique views down over Hallstatt, the Hallstättersee lake and the inner Salzkammergut region. The 5 different levels, each 4 x 1 m in size, offer spectacular insight and views. One of the platforms is made entirely from glass and another enables visitors to gain their own personal view of the Hallstatt World Heritage site through a large Baroque picture frame. The ‘5fingers’ are illuminated until midnight and can be seen from far and wide, even at night. On the way to the 5fingers you learn on information boards much about Fauna, Flora and the Geology at Dachstein Krippenstein.

Optional: Dachstein Giant Ice Cave offers you the chance to embark on a breathtaking adventure through rock and ice.
If interested in seeing the surrounding area from Salzburg, we definitely recommend. This is the best way to visit Salzkammergut. No stress or worrying about the itinerary, parking or logistics. Our driver (Luciano) took care of everything and made recommendations for activities, lunch & even the best photo stops!
We had Luciano as our Driver/Guide. We were traveling with our two children. The weather was unfortunately bad but we were able to pivot and modify and saw Hallstat and Wolfgangsee Lake. He offered alternative options to make the best use of our time given the unfortunate turn in the weather. Super helpful and kind.
Michael guided whilst Luciano drove us. A great pair that gave us amazing experiences - walking in the snow up in the mountain, walking the picturesque Hallstatt and finishing with the best Ciabar we ever had!

We had an excellent trip with Luciano! He was very attentive and took us to some awesome places. As it was overcast on the day wae ewent we opted not to to Five Fingers and he took us to a very nice restaurant at a beautiful lake. We enjoyed a couple of hours there before returning home.
Great tour! At our tour guides recommendation, we choose to do the five fingers option and we are so glad we did! Soooo beautiful! Definitely eat at the restaurant on top- food was excellent. I only wished there was a little more time in Hallstatt.
It’s the best way to see the countryside. Overall a good trip but for I’d have liked more information about the area. Driver seemed too rushed and not very accommodating but he did show us a couple of great places. Overall very worth it as compared to group tours where you can’t really see the views over the heads of other travelers.
This was such a fantastic tour—we absolutely loved every minute of it. It’s a flexible tour that takes the weather and your interests into account. After being picked up, we made a plan with Carlos for what our day would look like. After a coffee stop in Bad Ischl and a photo stop at Wolfgangsee Lake, we arrived in Hallstatt and had some free time to wander the charming streets and enjoy lunch. What a beautiful village! Carlos also arranged for us to visit the Salzwelten salt mine, which was fantastic. The tour was not only informative but also entertaining. The way they’ve designed it is impressive. A highlight of the day was witnessing light snowfall, which made the experience even more magical. The day truly couldn’t have gotten any better. Thank you, Carlos, for a wonderful day and for the dinner suggestion—we were surprised by the dessert when it arrived!

Michael Toth with Salzburg Private Tours was absolutely AMAZING! He was incredibly knowledgeable and so very kind. He answered all of our questions and shared so many great details. You can tell he loves meeting new people and sharing the history of the region. Despite snowy weather this morning making it hard to see the lakes he helped make things enjoyable. He even gave us recommendations for dinner in Salzburg which were fantastic! Would love to tour with Michael again!

We had the best day with our guide Michael Hallstatt! The weather was perfect. He took us past some beautiful scenery and photo ops then we went to 5 Fingers which was amazing. You can spend hours there- lots of walking though so if that is not your thing you may want to rethink that stop. Hallstatt was picture perfect and we had a fabulous lunch at a restaurant on the lake - Michael got us a VIP seat right in the dock of the lake. Definitely worth the money to have a private tour. We did not have the extra guide and it was fine. Michael was so friendly knowledgeable and funny! Made the trip that much better!

Our guide, Carlos, was fantastic. He has tremendous knowledge of the area and made some excellent recommendations. We went to the Salt Mine and had a great time sliding down their slides. Halstatt was beautiful. I would take the electric boat on the lake if you have time. Just a great day all around.

The full-day tour to Hallstatt was fantastic. Our tour guide/driver, Carlos, was excellent. He was knowledgeable, entertaining, and engaging. Carlos went above and beyond, which made this tour very memorable.
This tour was the best part of our week-long family trip. Michael was an incredible guide who not only showed us beautiful places but taught us about history, art, culture. By the end of the day it felt as though he was a part of our group. I cannot recommend enough.
The tour was great; however we were unfortunate to have absolutely NO visibility! -very dense low clouds. No one can fix that! But- our guide gave us many choices to change up our tour due to the weather. He also took us to a valley lake to enjoy that view and it was not on our original itinerary. He did that to be kind and accommodating!

The entire experience was excellent! The views are amazing. The town is quaint and the salt mine is a do not miss experience! Michael, our tour guide, was friendly, extremely knowledgeable and patient. He knows every detail and tells great stories. The salt mine is a unique experience. 300 feet down into an active salt mine you will learn the history of salt discovery and production. There are even a couple slides you can ride as the old miners did back in the day! The funicular to the mine gives you a full view of Hallstatt and the area. Very beautiful especially when looking from above down. Our driver, Luciano, did a good job was also entertaining. Even more fun when Michael and Luciano bantered with us. Feel like they are our friends now!
I was so happy to splurge on a private driver Michael Toth who took for an 8 hr. day to Hallstatt with stops made along the way and back. We would never have known about or seen all the beautiful places and facts about where we visited. Michael was worth every dollar. With such a surprise ending I got my bucket list and many great tears.
I found this amazing adventure and scheduled it as a birthday gift for my husband. My mother in law, my husband and I loved the tour. Our tour guy Michael was amazing and so was our driver. This was the best tour I have taken thus far! We were very lucky that the weather was great, even though the forecast was rain. So we were able to take many pictures of the absolutely magnificent views - from the scenic drive, to post-card-perfect Hallstatt, to the "hills are alive" mountains of Dachstein and the glaciers and lake views at Gosau. Our guide, Luciano, was so warm and friendly. He went out of his way to accommodate the seniors and child in our group. He was also very knowledgeable. If I could, I would give this tour 10 stars!
I visited the area for three days with my family. It was highly refreshing, full of enjoyment and infotainment. I find it one of the finest place to visit. the weather was pleasant and the place has lots of activities of interest for the tourists.

<p>We had a great tour and great tour driver who was understanding when it came to having children in the van who started to feel car sick. We made enough stops to keep the kids happy and loved the scenery on the way.</p>

With my mother having mobility issues, we opted for this private tour for flexibility to tour at our on pace. Thomasdriver and Johann tour guide did not disappoint. I've been on many tours and enjoy travelling. This tour was the best tour that I have ever been on. Johann was full of knowledge on the Austrian Lake District and on the history of the people of this region. Johann never left our side throughout the tour and was very attentive to adjust the tour as needed for my mom. I booked the trip for Halstatt and have to admit that our last stop in Gosausee was the most memorable. Gosausee was quiet and peaceful. From the moment we left Salzburg, there was jawdropping lake/mountain backdrops that kept us looking out the windows. This tour is not to be missed, it is worth EVERY DIME. Request Thomas and Johann and you will be pleased.</p>
The walk is wonderful. Stunning landscapes with mountains, lakes and bucolic villages. The guide and driver Carlos is excellent professional, very helpful, polite and knows all attractive places, being flexible for adaptations to our interests.
Our walk was amazing, the landscape was perfect. The car was very comfortable, the Carlos driver was very caring and dear, explained everything with very goodwill and patience. Whoever has the opportunity will not regret it.

Estuvimos charlando con el durante todo el día mientras nos daba explicaciones de los sitios a los que íbamos.
