The tour was falsely advertised as including a train ride to a salt mine and visiting a house of skulls. That was specifically why we booked it. We found out after the driver picked us up and we were already on our way, that all the attractions were closed. No Salt Mine, No Train Ride, No House of Skulls. Too late to change our minds since we were not told upfront. And, it was even worse, it was not disclosed that on Sundays in Hallstatt, almost everything is closed. Restaurants, Coffee Shops, Souvenir Shops, etc, CLOSED, with few exceptions. So, all we got for over $735 was a ride back and forth to Hallstatt. We could have rented a car for all of us for $89. The tour company offered a tiny refund and said ”that’s all we can do” Total ripoff! We tried at length to get them to be reasonable before writing this bad and completely honest review.

Fantastic tour to a beautiful Austrian Village. Our tour guide, Mitch, was phenomenal. Very knowledgeable about Halstatt history and importance of salt mines. Also, very good about history of other villages enroute to destination. A joyous day had by all.
It was an amazing experience. Bridget was very knowledgeable about the history of the entire region. She was a great driver and was very easy to talk to. She planned out everything quite well for us with lots of great tips. She was the best guide we have had from many countries. Thanks! We will be back!
Guide was good. Value was not there. There really was no touring with us while at destination, once we arrived there we were on our own
We lost an hour upfront bec tour operator didn’t confirm pickup location early enough, and wouldn’t answer phone calls on day of tour. Considering the 3 hrs RT travel time from Salzburg to Hallstatt , it’ll be impossible to see the salt mine, churches and bone museum. We went on a rainy/snowing day and didn’t get to do anything but have lunch. The Heritage Museum & Bone Museum were both closed without advance warning on the website. Good thing the tour operator extended our time in Halstatt to make up for the 1 hour lost time upfront. But we still were not able to do anything but eat lunch in the only 1 restaurant that’s open. Disappointed
Leo’s tour was quite colorful and informative. He has a captivating personality and was warmly greeted by many of the locals in Hallstatt. One of our best excursions on the trip!
Great tour. Picked up our group of 6 in Salzburg. Mitch, our tour guide, was fantastic. Lots of interesting information on the ride and gave us all the right recommendations on how to spend our time in beautiful Hallstatt.
This tour was everything we hoped it would be! We had a beautiful drive to Hallstatt that included commentary of highlights to see along the way. We saw the Red Bull Headquarters! Once we were at Hallstatt our guide made sure we didn't miss anything and made recommendations on what to prioritize and where to get the best pictures. We took a different route back to the hotel so we were able to see even more of the beautiful countryside.
My tour to Hallstatt was awesome. The tour guide was very informative and knowledgeable about everything. I originally thought that it would be a small private group tour, but to my surprise it was just one on one with the guide. We beat most of the early bird crowds at the Instagram picture taking spots and a few other noteworthy places in the area. I'm definitely not one for crowds, so I was extremely happy about that. The weather was ok, a bit cloudy, but thats something that can't be controlled. Since I live in Germany, I will definitely return during the summer or winter. Overall, I could not have asked for a better way to have ended my last day in Austria.
I cannot say enough about how amazing our 8 hour Hallstatt tour with Ben was. He is an excellent tour guide who clearly loves sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm for Austria with his clients. This tour was definitely a highlight of our 2 week Europe trip. Our family truly appreciated Ben's deep knowledge of the Austria, Salzburg, Hallstatt and the lake area, his special viewing spots and beautiful stops along the way, great restaurant recommendation and secret knowledge of the best of Hallstatt. He also took so many pictures of our family in front of wonderful sites, making sure we didn't miss anything. I highly recommend Ben and Panorama Tours!
For a quick (check the box) trip to Hallstatt, this is the way to do it! You’ll learn lots about the lakes and mountains on you’re way there. And have a little more than 2 hours to explore Hallstatt. Choose one of the following: the cable car/salt mine, eating at a restaurant, taking a boat across the lake, or meandering through the town. You will accomplish one of these. If you want more time, then spend the night. Going early in the morning was before the crowds.
Everything was organized very well Good tour, interesting, informative and breathtaking views, Skywalk doesn’t include, but I highly recommend Panama tour has good guides
Private 1 1/2 days pre-booked months in advance with PTS because of Rick Steves recommendations-had been working with three companies. Per emails private tours(at great expense) meant according to my wishes but also what had been advertised on website. Day included short stop in Ebensee (will do separate review of Eagle's Nest private tour). One wouldn't have known was SOM tour; did not follow advertised tour. Tour seemed to be what driver/guide chose including much time and almost complete stop at Red Bull site, which was not my choice. Web stated driver/guide "would be knowledgeable & would relate everything related to SOM, history and shooting of movie..." NOT. During day i continued to ask if had time for certain things; guide stated my tour so yes. In actuality it wasn't my tour. And when asked when SOM tour would be, thinking since not in AM would be in PM, guide retorted i had not paid for SOM. He was shown voucher. At end of the NOT SOM tour, at point not at hotel, guide droned on and on about recommendations for restaurant. Even after being told no, i would be staying around hotel due to early tour in AM and checkout and securing of luggage at hotel before so after tour next day a driver would be picking me up to transport to Prague. Finally i had to stop the droning and stated No, I'm done, i'm out of here. During day were many stale canned jokes that guide thought were funny-scripted as though told many times over. Some not appropriate for solo woman. Guide also spoke disparagingly calling FAT the spouse so couldn't travel without wheelchair. Inappropriate. other private guides even during an entire week with them never did this. I had asked at several points to slow down so could photo signs so could ID photos once back in US. NOT. So no SOM, if so certainly not known. Hallstaat - beautiful. Guide drove boat-a positive so could view lake and town. I had wanted the funicular view but settled for boat, which was OK. Thinking SOM would follow Hallstatt i kept thinking needed to hurry but did have time to stop for cold Austrian cola and take photos. PTS was contacted about the issues and about Eagles Nest issues but seemed to take part of the guide. In fact i was told the guide was surprised at my attitude, but an arrogant person often does not have awareness of such. The guide did not seem to know the meaning of No, nor what a private tour would be. Another issue was that when asked longed before leaving US who the guide would be so would at least have a name to call out in lobby if necessary. I was told would have the day before tour. This did not happen. It is discomforting not to have even a name of who is being paid top dollar for a quality tour but this also goes to the fact it wasn't a quality tour. On day 2 at end of day i was given a piece of paper and requested to sign. After asking what it was since not in English was told to sign that I had taken the SOM/Hallstatt/Ebensee tour. I think this was wrong and if expected to sign to have it in English. I think that this was a cover up in that none was given to sign on day 2 after Eagles Nest. It took multiple emails in order to receive a copy since one wasn't given after signing. I signed because uncomfortable already and didn't want to ire someone in a vehicle alone thousands of miles from US thinking PTS would be more welcoming of customer review and issues. As i stated to them I don't write negative reviews but in this case i would in hopes no other solo person or anyone else on a private tour experienced the same. More about this guide under Private Eagle's nest. The name will not be posted, but only initial for protection of the spouse. The initial is "A", paper finally received indicated KAL, and something that was partially erased at top of page AJ or AS Se______was wiped out. This private expensive tour was a great disappointment.
Our guide was very nice and had good English. We had a private bus with 10 people for 1/2 day tour. Very expensive. About $1100 Euro, so I expected a great experience. They were on time for the pickup. Its a long day, would have thought maybe they would have had water and/or light snack on board. But nothing. The guide seemed to be determined to do her usual thing without adjusting it to our group. The drive is winding roads, very beautiful. But we were in a van, and the driver went very fast, taking turns fast etc and we had a couple people car sick. The guide seemed to not be concerned and continued her prepared speech that she's probably done many many times. It was a rainy day, which is unfortunate. We have been before when it was beautiful and sunny about 4 years ago. It had been one of my all time favorite, beauitiful, serene places I had ever been. Since that time, Hallstatt has been taken over by huge tour buses of people coming in. It lost its luster for me due to this. Once we unloaded, we needed toilet break; again, long lines and they charge for toilet which we were not informed about, so we were all trying to come up with coin for this. Our guide took us on her predetermined route even after we asked to go to different spot for a view we had done last time. She only left us with about an hour and to explore on our own and shop. We had to ask her to let us go on our own. As we were leaving, there were miles and miles of busses and traffic trying to come in. Our guide estimated it would take them a couple hours sitting in traffic before they would be able to unload. We luckily left earlier in the day so made it out before the crowds got any worse than they already were. So I probably would have given it 3 1/2 stars if allowed. I felt that for an expensive private tour that it would have been more tailored to our wants and some amenities would have been provided.
You cannot go to Austria and not go to Hallstatt. Taking a private tour was awesome. Beautiful place.
We booked a 5 hour tour to Hallsttat and it cost us 59 euros per person, and that only includes the 1 hour and a half ride with the bus and the tour guide explains you the history of Salzburg, Hallsttat etc, so that was nice! You get to enjoy 2 hours and a half on your own in this amazing fairy tale village. I think is overpriced but at the same time the attention provided was excellent, and Hallsttat is COMPLETELY worth it!
We did a 1/2 day private tour to Hallstatt. Gunther was our driver and he was a pleasure to be with for the tour. The drive to Hallstatt was awesome! Gunther pulled over a couple of times so we could get pics with the beautiful scenery and gave us good information during the drive to and from Salzburg. Definitely recommend Gunther and the Hallstatt private tour. We tried to add on an extra hour but Gunther was already booked in the afternoon with another tour. Take the early 1/2 day tour to Hallstatt as it was getting busy with other tourists as we were leaving.
We had a quick trip to Salzburg and arranged a private tour. Anne Marie was our guide and she was fantastic! We visited the Sound of Music sites and then travelled through the countryside to Hallstatt. What an incredible day! Highly recommend.

We had a great trip to Hallstatt. Our tour guide picked us up right on time and the vehicle had plenty of space for four travelers. Our tour guide Carlos was excellent. He provided facts and stories all the way from Salzburg to Hallstatt. He answered all of our questions and was very clear and insightful. We highly recommend this tour, this company, and a quick visit to Hallstatt!!

Amazing tour and well worth the investment. Wolfgang was the best and Hallstatt is a one in a lifetime visit.

nice, quaint, picturesque village.. too bad it was too foggy to go up the skywalk. there are also nice shops within the area, and some good restaurants too.. loved dining and sipping coffee while enjoying the view.

Hallstatt is unbelievably beautiful. You will leave there with postcard perfect pictures. We felt a little rushed however. Wish we would have had more time to spend there.

He was more interested in listening to classical music than explaining about the sights. Also, he was very time conscious kept us from seeing all that was promised.

This was such a wonderful tour ! Our tour guide, Sonya, was so interesting and gave us great information about Hallstatt and the surrounding areas. She was very knowledgeable and fun ! Do not miss seeing Hallstatt ! It's amazing and the drive to and from Salzburg is just as enjoyable. We saw Lake Fuschlsee and Lake Wolfgangsee. They were also so beautiful. We had time to walk around the town of Hallstatt and it was perfect !

Visit to Slatmine was included and mentioned in the tour voucher whereas on tour it was not covered. When we told the guide he refused to take us to the Salt Mine.

This was a fantastic tour of the alpine lake village of Halstatt and also the surrounding area lakes and ski resorts. Our driver, Max, was a wealth of knowledge on the area and the history. He made us feel very comfortable. It was as if he had been our friend for a long time.

This tour is great! your guide is so friendly. After this tour, he took us to another route that used more time travel for a nice view of mountain, its make us feel good! A one disadvantage is they just let us walk in Hallstatt without any recommendation or any knowledge of Hallstatt, just let us walk by ourselves. But it ok.

Our driver/tour guide was excellent and we enjoyed every minute!

Best tour guide ever, funny and very informative,

Thank you, will definitely use you again,

Regards

Ben

Absolutely one of the best tours we did. Beautiful countryside leading to this fabulous me devil town. Charming old world village full history and marvelous people. Highly recommend this tour.

We really enjoyed this trip to Hallstatt! It was very scenic and informative. Our guide was excellent providing us with much information along the way! Our only negative was that the amount of time allotted in the town is just tooo short. We would have liked an additional hour at least to experience the town in more depth.

Loved every minute of this tour. Our guide, Michael, was great and the scenery so beautiful. Would have liked more time but then there is never enough time when you enjoy a place.

the tour is amazing. we can see what we want to see. Sonia is an experienced guide. She is knowlegeable, helpful and friendly. The van is comfortable for our 7 adults. The price is reasonable. Overall the tour is wonderful and luckily we have Sonia as our guide. Thanks a lot.

This tour is a must.
Max our tour guide was exceptionally professional and Hallstatt is so pretty.
Definitely recommend this

We booked two private tours during our stay in Salzburg. The first tour was much better and the tour guide was friendly and flexible to let us know we can detour to other places if we wish to see. This tour guide we had for Hallstatt tour was not that friendly and we cant even hear what he is explaining to us during the tour. He seems to be mumbling to himself, end up we just have to see the scenery and the disappointing thing was when we just want to stop by to buy water or something, the driver will repeatedly say, "Its up to you, but if the tour is overtime, he will have to charge extra" Its not as if we will take a lot of time buying 3 bottles of water?
Anyway overall, at least we went around and see a lot of good views in Salzburg. it could have been better if its the same tour guide we had during our first day tour.

Among the many highlights on our trip we all agree this a beautiful place to visit and should not be missed. Our driver was outstanding( in our many years of travelling one of the best we have had ) and was very informative and helpful. A trip not to be missed

Prepaid tour for date and time. Tour changed time without notice and then said I should have confirmed with them! Used them the day before for tour and also had issues with being oversold although I prepaid three months prior they asked my group if we could go on a later tour!

We would highly recommend others take the private Hallstatt Tour from Salzburg! Our tour guide, Natasha, was very knowledgeable and fun to be with. Even though much of the day was cloudy or raining, Natasha made the tour very enjoyable and informative.

Jim and Pauline Jillson

Our tour was amazing!!!! Our tour guide was kind, patient and very knowledgeable of the areas that we visited. He took us off the path to a beautiful lake that literally took our breath away! Being from Hawaii we were just overwhelmed with all the snow on the Alps and on the evergreen trees...it was like a post card picture! Our eyes were treated to a most picturesque area, we could not snap enough photos! The snow covered Alps were a sight to behold!
Our visit to Hallstatt was exceptional! Hallstatt was everything I imagined it to be, beautiful, quaint, and historic! I would recommend this tour to everyone, it is quite a distance but well worth it. You will see so much more of Salzburg by taking the distant drive.

MerciYvan Demchuck
Very pleasant and quiet tour where you can enjoy a beautiful picturesque landscape of Austria.
