Our driver Manfred was prompt and informative. Extremely helpful with the history and lots of insider tips on things to do in Salzburg. He timed our visit to eagles nest to avoid the crowds which was much appreciated.

Itinerary
Meet your professional local guide at your Salzburg hotel and hop on board of your luxury minivan. Afterward, your journey will take you on a scenic route to the Obersalzberg Region.
Explore the historic heart of Obersalzberg, once Hitler’s heavily guarded mountain headquarters and one of the most important centers of Nazi power outside Berlin. Stand at the site of the Berghof, Hitler’s former Alpine residence, where he spent much of his time in power, hosted foreign leaders, and held meetings that helped shape the course of WWII. Although the building was bombed in 1945 and demolished in 1952, traces of its foundations can still be discovered. Nearby stands the historic Hotel zum Türken, which was taken over by the Nazis and used by the SS and security services responsible for guarding Hitler’s residence. With your private guide, uncover the stories behind these historic locations and discover how this peaceful mountain retreat became a center of Nazi power.
Experience one of the most spectacular scenic drives in the Bavarian Alps along the Rossfeld Panorama Road, Germany’s highest panoramic road, reaching an elevation of nearly 1,600 meters (5,250 feet). Located on the neighboring mountain to the famous Eagle’s Nest (Kehlstein), the Rossfeld offers breathtaking 360-degree views of the surrounding Alpine landscape. Marvel at the majestic peaks of the Hoher Göll and Watzmann, the Berchtesgaden Alps, and sweeping views across the Salzach Valley towards Salzburg and Austria. From several viewpoints, you can also look across to the historic Kehlstein mountain, adding a unique perspective to the history explored earlier on your tour. We will stop at some of the most beautiful viewpoints, giving you plenty of opportunities to take unforgettable photographs, enjoy the fresh mountain air, and experience the incredible beauty of the Bavarian Alps.
Step into one of the darkest chapters of European history at the Obersalzberg Documentation Center, on the grounds of Hitler’s former mountain headquarters. During WWII, Obersalzberg was much more than a peaceful Alpine retreat. It became a major center of Nazi power outside Berlin, where Hitler met leading Nazi officials and where decisions with devastating consequences for millions were made. Explore the historical exhibition featuring original photographs, documents, and multimedia displays that reveal the story behind Hitler’s mountain residence, the Berghof, and the Nazi leadership. A highlight is the opportunity to descend into the original WWII-era underground bunker complex. Walk through surviving tunnels and shelters built beneath Obersalzberg and experience a powerful reminder of the region’s wartime past. An unforgettable historical experience that brings the events of WWII into perspective, right where history unfolded.
After eight unforgettable hours exploring the fascinating WWII history of Obersalzberg, the charming Berchtesgaden region, and the breathtaking scenery of the Bavarian Alps, your private tour concludes with a comfortable drop-off at your hotel or any other preferred location in Salzburg.

We had a wonderful full day private tour of the Berchtesgaden/Eagles Nest area. We thoroughly enjoyed this tour! A combination of stunning alpine scenery, amazing little Bavarian towns, combined with the history of the area. We were lucky enough to have Manfred as our guide who was fantastic. Very knowledgeable, very accommodating, knew his history, and a pleasure to deal with. It was a very comfortable day with a lovely car to tour around in. He went out of his way to take us on a quick detour to the see the Koenigsee area which we were very grateful for. Would not hesitate to use MCM tours again when we're next in this part of the world!
An amazing, fun, informative and flexible tour tailored to our interests. Manfred was an excellent guide--so knowledgeable about the area and the subject--both the Eagle's Nest/Berchtesgaden sites and Sound of Music sights as well, taking us on short side trips to add to the experience. We loved every minute of this tour!
Our full-day tour from Salzburg into the Bavarian Alps with Manfred was outstanding. The combination of breathtaking mountain scenery and fascinating World War II history made this one of the most memorable experiences of our trip. The tour included spectacular views of the Alps, beautiful mountain landscapes, and several significant WWII historical sites.. A highlight was visiting the Documentation Center, where we gained valuable insight into the events before and during World War II, followed by a visit to the area where Hitler spent much of his time planning and directing the war.. Manfred presented the history in a factual, engaging, and easy to understand way, providing important context that made the experience even more meaningful. Manfred was punctual, highly organized, and professional throughout the day. We traveled in a beautiful, new Mercedes-Benz van that was exceptionally comfortable, making the journey through the mountains just as enjoyable as the destinations themselves. He also recommended an excellent restaurant for lunch during the tour and provided outstanding dinner recommendations for afterward, which were some of the best meals we had during our stay. If you’re looking to better understand the history of World War II while experiencing some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in the region, I highly recommend this tour. Manfred’s knowledge, professionalism, engaging personality, and attention to detail make him an exceptional guide.
Our private tour of Berchtesgaden & the Eagle’s Nest was phenomenal. It’s the best tour & was the highlight of our trip to Europe. Patrick was our guide & he was hands down the best tour guide we’ve ever had. We learned so much from Patrick & he was so easy & fun to be with. Thank you so much Patrick!
Patrick was a very knowledgeable and pleasant guide . We spent sufficient time at all the stops, nothing was rushed.
What an amazing tour. The views from the Eagles Nest were spectacular. Spend some time in the Documentation Center going through the bunkers. Manfred was an incredible guide. He was very knowledgeable and guided through some extra places. Highly recommend. Eat lunch on the terrace of the Hotel Edelweiss if you can.
We had an incredible time on the Private Eagle’s Nest and Berchtesgaden tour with Manfred. From start to finish, everything was perfectly organised, informative, and enjoyable. Manfred was professional, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable about the area and its history, which made the tour even more memorable. Thank you so much for yesterday’s Private Eagle’s Nest and Berchtesgaden tour. Adding the Sound of Music stop-offs was such a great touch and made the experience even more special. It really personalised the day and gave us the chance to see even more of the beautiful Salzburg region. The luxury transport was very comfortable, and we truly appreciated the attention to detail throughout the day. We would highly recommend Manfred to anyone visiting Salzburg and looking for a private, personalised experience.
2 couples from America. This tour exceeded all our expectations. Every single detail was planned and executed perfectly. Patrick, our guide, was personable, knowledgeable and engaged. His energy and enthusiasm to share history with us made our trip even more memorable. Can’t recommend this tour and Patrick enough!
Great experience-well worth the cost. We were a group of four adults. Patrick our guide was amazing and shared so much more information than we would have been able to find on our own. He had photos and additional information on an iPad as well that was helpful for perspective comparing the current appearance and layout of certain areas/sights to historical pictures and information. He made reservations in advance for our Eagle’s Nest tour and lunch and the activities were well timed to balance a reasonable amount of depth with covering a lot. It was foggy at the summit at Eagle’s Nest so no views from the top but that did detract from the day-this was a great experience and we would highly recommend.
Patrick was wonderful! He was very informed and provided a detailed overview of the area. He was helpful and gave great recommendations during our tour as well as other parts of our trip. 10/10 recommendations for this tour and Patrick!
This was an outstanding full day tour with Patrick. We were able to stop at some other areas of interest and stay on time and see all that we wanted. We highly recommend Viator and Patrick on any tour that interests you. Thank you Patrick for closing out this Bucket List trip!
Believe it or not, Adolf Hitler conducted much of WW 2 from his residence in the Alps called the Berghof. Allied bombers and later Austrian authorities destroyed the Berghof so it wouldn't become a shrine, but remnants of the building remain . The mountaintop building , "The Eagle's Nest," favorite place of Eva Braun, Hitler's girlfriend, it entirely INTACT and worth a visit via Nazi built tunnels and an elevator. The highlight of the trip, from a historical perspective is the Documentation Center ofcObersalzburg. The Germans don't try to sugarcoat the horrors of WW2 and the Holocaust, to their credit. You can take a shortened version of the visit to the Center (40 minute audio tour) or the longer, more complete version. If you're interested in History, I RECOMMEND THE LONGER VERSION.
Incredible experience. Lena, our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. She was able to add a lot of depth to the places we saw on the trip. Although this tour was geared towards WW2, she did take the time to add a couple of stops related to The Sound of Music. I would absolutely recommend this tour.
Patrick was so knowledgeable and shared his personal knowledge being born and raised near Salzburg. We were lucky enough to book him for another tour to Hallstatt. That says a lot when you get done with one tour and immediately book another with the same person! I felt completely safe driving all the mountain roads with him, and I have a fear of heights. He added personal touches that I won’t spoil, greatly appreciated!! Thank you Patrick!!
Patrick was absolutely amazing!! Great knowledge and expertise combined with his attention to detail for a truly customized experience. We had originally booked one full day but had such a great time we booked a second full day. Highly recommend!
Patrick was an amazing tour guide! He was a wealth of info, fun and very personable! He knew all the best photo shoots,WWII history,Sound of Music facts(book his tour "Hills are Alive",and places to stop for lunch -most memorable day thanks to a fantastic tour guide!
Stunning views, nice weather (arranged by Patrick and the weather gods), great driver, wonderful lunch. Patrick had excellent knowledge, taking us to all the places with the relevant history. Patrick showed us photos of actual WW2 documents that only he has, given by those who were there, or were the descendants of the above. His lunch recommendation was excellent, with unique views as a bonus. Would recommend Patrick to anyone looking for a private tour.
Patrick was polite, pleasant ,accommodating and quite knowledgeable and appropriately dressed in his traditional lederhosen 🙂!!. His advice on dining and places to imbibe provided delectable and thirst quenching treats. We highly recommend not only this tour but Patrick in particular 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾!!!
We had a wonderful day with Patrick! He brought the historical story of this area to life and provided so much insightful information that we would have never gotten on our own! He was professional, efficient and a joy to spend the day with. I would highly recommend!
Our family (6 adults) had a wonderful time on our private Eagle's Nest/Berhtesgaden Tour with Manfred! He was right on time at our hotel and was so friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful! We tried to go to the salt mines, but there was an issue there that caused a delay. We were glad Manfred was familiar with the operation to know that it would not be worth the time to wait for it. So, we were a little sad to not see them but glad Manfred was there to help make that decision easier. We learned so much about Hitler and his love for the area and the history of his house and Eagle's nest. We learned that the reason the air was a bit hazy the day we did the tour was because of Sahara dust - never would have known that! The lunch spot Manfred recommended that we ate at was wonderful! it had great views of the mountains and the food was delicious (and not too expensive). The tour was the perfect amount of time to feel like we really saw the area and learned a lot. I would highly recommend this tour!
The tour with Manfred was incredible. He showed us sites we would never have found on our own or with other tours. . It was great to have a guide with such extensive knowledge of Salzburg area the history of the area. He was very personable and his van was spotless and gave us great recommendations for other parts of our trip (Vienna and Prague). I would highly recommend this tour!
Our guide took the time to show us sights that were of interest to us. It was like we received a tour that was especially curated for us!
Patrick was a great guide, adapting to our interests and helping us avoid lines. A very pleasant and interesting day in what is now a beautiful place
Patrick was a very polite and welcoming tour guide. My wife and I had a memorable experience during this tour. The information was direct, the sights were beautiful and with a private car, it was very easy to get around. The tour was well put together. Our tour guide allowed enough time at each location to meet our needs for taking pictures as well as simply soaking up the views. We were given plenty of personal space to enjoy each other's company along the tour. This tour is worth the experience!
Manfred was a fantastic guide and our experience was great! He was prompt, very interesting and found a wonderful restaurant for lunch. Our tour was exactly what we had hoped for!
Our guide, Lina, was excellent. The weather got better as we were at the Eagles Nest. Lina had booked a lunch at a very good restaurant in Berchtesgaden, and the salt mine tour in Hallein was good too. Altogether a delightful day - interesting and well presented.
If you are looking for a private tour of the Greater Salzburg area, look no further than MCM Tours and Travel. Patrick customized our trip to Hallstatt, Hallein and the Eagles Nest attractions to meet our groups desire to see the best sites that Salzburg has to offer. Patrick was a knowledgeable and excellent conversationalist. He answered questions about food, customs and places to stay as well as explaining the rich history of Austria and the complications of the world wars in the Salzburg area. You will not be disappointed with Patrick and MCM Tours and Travel, Salzburg, Austria.
We took a private tour for Eagles nest from MCM tour company and we must say that it was a very enjoyable experience. The standout was our young guide Patrick who was absolutely friendly, knowledgeable and eager to share things. We had a very interactive drive too sharing a lot of things on the way. Patrick made this tour more worth it with his ever jolly attitude. He is an asset to have. I would advise others to take this tour from MCM.
