10 out of 10, highly recommend! This class was great! The guide and the teacher were very friendly, kind, and knowledgeable. I was the only one in the class which could have been very awkward but they made me feel like I was just part of the gang vibing with the beats. I feel this is a very uniquely Salvador activity and recommend it to anyone who is interested in getting a hands-on Salvador experience!
The best, most fun and nicest guide & teacher!! 100% recommend for all levels of experience. You gain understanding for Bahian percussion traditions.
Maestro Macambira gave a phenomenal class. He shared about both the history and spirituality related to percussion playing and we jammed to many different rhythms, along with my guide Alex, who is also very talented. I also took this class on my birthday and so happy I got to celebrate in this special way.
This was a brilliant experience! Our guide Nilsen was phenomenally knowledgeable about Afro-Brazilian history, and the class itself was superb fun, and completely absorbing. We worked our way through various rhythms including Samba Rio, Samba Bahia and Samba Reggae on 2 different types of drum with teacher Macambira. The 3 hour duration seems to include collection & drop off - the class itself was 90 (marvellous) minutes and took place in Pelhourino. Very highly recommended!
Amazing class. High energy and cheerful professors. My son wants a second one!!!! Professors are very knowledgeable and professional. Shared a lot about the history and background of the music learned.
Such an amazing and meditative experience! I’d highly recommend this one to enjoy your time in salvador!
it was maybe the best experience visiting Salvador Bahia. Great teacher, nice atmosphere. Just wonderful. It is really fully recommended. And our guide Wagner just took part of it and before and after showed us the best places to visit close to Pelourinho (bars, restaurants, shows). He was very helpful.
Josuel was responsive and accommodating of my shrimp allergy (shrimp is in many foods in Bahia, beware!) right from the beginning. He's super friendly and easy to talk to and so inviting with his way of opening Bahian culture and history. He took us to the Feira de São Joaquim, which would have been completely overwhelming but was instead fascinating under his gentle guidance. He's not talking all the time but allowing us to explore and pointing out some curiosities. Back at his house, we made moqueca together and ate it and drank some wine while talking about education in Brazil (he's also a public school teacher). His Portuguese is quite understandable, and he also speaks English. He's been a guide for 20+ years here and it is apparent. He really knows this place and our experience was richer for his knowledge. Great way to spend a few hours in a new city!!!
Very good plan, Master Macambira was very generous, close and with great wisdom. I recommend it for both starters and beginners. I took a private lesson without pickup, directly at your local pelourinho. It was 2h and he gave me more time.
Unforgettable Pelourinho tour! Excellent percussion driver, guide and master, unique and vibrant experience!
A must for amateur or more advanced percussionists visiting Salvador. I learned basic rhythms of the Bahia tradition ( Ijexa, samba de roda, t Rhythms of candomble, samba reggae) . The master was patient, attentive and very competent. The master speaks Portuguese but Alex, the guide is a good translator. Unforgettable and friendly experience
Muito informativa e divertida. O mestre explicou os diferentes ritmos e suas origens e deu uma aula show com a participação dos expectadores.
Beautiful place, very welcoming people, great percussion lessons They made some videos that I would like to find
