Itinerary
Start the tour with a pick up from centrally located Salta hotels at 7:00am.
Begin your journey to Purmamarca, and while en route, you will complete a city tour.
Arrive to Purmamarca, one of the traditional towns, to visit the Seven Colors Hill. Take time to admire the beauty of this naturally colorful mountain range.
The unforgettable sight here, however, lies at the end of the road, looming over town: Cerro de los Siete Colores (Seven Colors Hill), with striated hues ranging from cream to green to a deep plum.
Afterwards, climb more than 4,000 meters over sea level by Cuesta de Lipán, where the curves of the mountain enhance the environment's beauty.
Travel down to the Large Salinas to admire the dazzling white landscape and its large extension contrasting with the blue of the sky. Visit the salt workers and observe their handicrats, including the pools from which they extract salt. The white and shiny salt of Salinas Grandes, also known as the Great Salt Flat, has an inviting feel.
By the end of the day, the tour will finish returning to your hotel.

CONS: - Don't pay the absolute bogus charge on the eastside of the flat to go onto it. The only thing you get you can't on your own is a picture of the sign. - It's "one and done" in terms of what to do there and what you can see. PROS: - If you have a car, you can do everything on your own on the westside of the flat. - It is very cool to see, especially if you are not able to go into Bolivia.
Really great day out. Maru was an excellent guide, full of energy and very clear with her explanations. It was high season so a lot of tourists around but that’s to be expected.
I would highly recommend this tour. I was apart of a small group or just myself, one other person, and our tour guide. This experience would not have been nearly as enriching without the amazing tour guide as I was able to ask any questions that I had and I was always given a thorough answer. This trip was definitely one of the highlights of my month spent in Argentina.
Purmamarca was really cool to see, we got to stop and spend a couple hours there because of the road delay. The salt flats were good for pictures. The tour itself is a bit too long to do from salta city. We had issues because of rain (which is no one’s fault) but our pickup was 2 hours late we weren’t picked up until almost 9 (we were told 7-7:30) so we didn’t get home until 10pm and it advertised for to be back for 5. I wouldn’t do this unless you have nothing going on the next day. Also way payed more for an English guide because our Spanish is not very good and she only spoke in English once in a while, we didn’t get any information on how the salt flats formed or anything. If I could turn back time I would have just booked a Spanish guide with a local company for a fraction of the price. But the sights were cool !
Pamela was super, she explained also every information in english ! Lots of stops along the way to take some pictures, use the restroom and enjoy the view.
This tour was really great! The tour guide Eugenia was really informative, English and Spanish too. It’s quite a long day because of the drive but the salt pans are great and all the stops in between are really cool too
The places we visited were spectacular - 8 colour mountains, salt plains and the vistas we stopped at! The coach did turn up very late but the helpline responded quickly to advise me it was on it’s way. Great tour guide and driver!
Best day of our trip! The guide was wonderful! He answered all of our questions about the province, it’s culture, history and environment. He even personalised the trip for us based on our preferences. It was memorable!
The sites were beautiful and worth seeing- just keep in mind I selected an English language tour and it was all in Spanish as I was the only English speaker there. The tour guide was very nice and did offer to come sit beside him but he spoke into a microphone quite a bit and wouldn’t be able to continually translate (his English was good). I didn’t expect full translations however A couple would have been nice as he spoke quite a bit about the locations, etc. or even when he told everyone when the stops were and durations as I had to continually ask. So I would recommend this tour if you are a fluent Spanish speaker, if not I would skip as you won’t be able to take in any information about the locations.
It is all very nice but the best is Pumamarca. Spare a couple of days to stay there and explore and enjoy that amaizing place. El Tren de la Nubes was a deception. Very good organization but they don’t have a policy to return the money to somebody who gave a 3 days in advance cancelation. You will not enter the clouds, it’s just a name and crossing a 150 feet bridge is ........
Eugenia was our cheerful and interesting guide. We had a lovely day in the mountains at Salinas Grandes then Purmamarca.
The tour is wonderful, but it makes absolutely no sense to finish the trip in Pumamarca late in the afternoon, when the sin is down and there’s no way to enjoy the seven colours hill. Just the same trip agenda but in the opposite order would be great, I do not see any reason why they do bot make Salta - Pulmamarca - Salinas - Sant Antonio de los Cobres - Quebrada del Toro and then back to Salta. I guess it should be difficuit to addapt lunch time, but it is quite dissapointing reaching Pumamarca late on the afternoon and then discover that the famous multi-colors hill is just a grey shadow because the sunshine gos to the opposite direction. At least the tour operator should warn the travelers in advance that they are not going to see anything in Pumamarca, as there are other tours that rightly reach Pumamarca on the morning, ex those going later to Humahuaca. Just for the record, the local agency indicated is an another wholesale agency (as Viator) located in Buenos Aires, the service is provided by a local retail tour operator. We duscovered that circumstance because we needed to call the operatirvas the tour started one and a quarter hour later, with no notice, aparently because they had to change the driver. Nothing to say, except the fact that they should warn the passangers or their hotels of that circumstance. Just a call to the hotels would have been welciome. Havig said that, we very much enjoyed our trip thanks to our phantastic guide Maru and our driver Alfredo. Manu gave a deep explanstion on any place visited : Quebrada del Toro, Tren de las Nubes, Salinas Grandes and Pumamarca. The bus ride is long but they maje many stops. We were luckly in Salinas Grandes as it was the pefect scenario to enjoy the famous “mirrow effect” : sunny day but with some clouds, and some rain on the day before, si it was some water on the salt surface.
Although we booked an all day tour, the operator called our hotel the morning of the pickup to tell them that we would be picked up at 3pm for only one portion of the all day tour. We never received an email or notification ourselves. Since we paid for an all day tour and only had one day in the area, we ended up not going on this excursion at all. Terrible communication and no contact from the operator since - yet to receive a refund nearly two weeks after the fact.
Not impressed by the fact that the van had no microphone, so the guide has to scream all the time. Nature is beautiful. The amphitheater and the landscape are gorgeous. The town of El Alfarcito is worth visiting. The chapel and the legacy of the priest who did so much for the community are great! Being such a little town, it is wonderful that everything is clean and pretty. We got a flat tire, and the spare tire was in terrible shape. The agency should be more careful. I was afraid to get a second flat tire. The food was pretty good at the restaurant, and the bathrooms were pretty clean. The salinas did not impress us. Probably that is why we only stopped for about 10 minutes. They are just a big white extension. The guide (Gala) was very knowledgeable and professional. The driver (Matías) was very good and kind. The ride was a little too long, but it was partially due to the fact that it took a long time to pick up all of us. The landscape is breathtaking, particularly when you start descending from 4170 m.o.s.l. It is good using coca leaves and drinking water. Take a sweater and be careful with the altitude.
A very nice excursion. Very dynamic and strategic. Enzo and Carlos excellent drivers. Maria is a total genius. Very attentive to everything.
Very well-honed tour, competent and dynamic guide, excellent driver, suggested restaurant: quite correct.. A WOW Salinas Grandes and Puarmamarca
Incredible, wonderful place. Landscapes that I never imagined. If you can, don't miss it. The guides are great. They take photos that look professional
This route is unique, exclusive for lovers of road trips, the salt flats are something not to be missed when visiting Salta. The transportation was very safe, the driver was very focused and our guide was very friendly.
Si hubiéramos contratado solo el bus sin la guía sería casi lo mismo. La guia turistica fue muy escasa, y además el chofer parece que tenia a la vuelta otro trabajo, porque nos trajo en el aire. Realmente poco recomendable.
Of course the views are incredible and we took a lot of photos, what I didn't understand is why you have to pay to set foot on the Salinas. They talk to me about native peoples.....in my opinion it is just commerce. They take us there, on a PAID excursion and we must continue paying to step on them. EVERYTHING COLDLY CALCULATED as if we tourists were all rich or simply foreigners. I do not belong to an indigenous people but I am a second generation of ARGENTINES. !Pity....
It is a tour that is totally worth it!! The landscapes are incredible, nature a luxury! The route to and from Salinas is very winding and exceeds 4,000 m at its highest point. Tall. It's easy to get sick or just dizzy: eat lightly, drink plenty of water and eventually take something to prevent it. The salt flats are an unusual landscape! There are many local guides who offer to take typical photos for a tip. It's fun, it just makes it kind of difficult to take photos alone without ruining someone else's photo. Purmamarca is a dream town: it is worth staying overnight because there are several places where you can eat delicious food, good hotels and clubs. The Colorado Walk, by itself, is worth the trip!! It is a one-hour walk around the hill of the 7 colors. If you spend the night in Purmamarca you can do it in the morning, when no one is there, with the morning sun, and it is the best time!
The trip to Salinas grande is a really interesting experience. The scenery is amazing, and the guide gave us a real geography class about the region and its vegetation. The arrival at the Salina surprises you. Despite the height it is totally enjoyable. The guide was Marcelo, from the Tastil Enterprise, and his tips on height helped us to be very well. Highly recommended walk!!
From the Salta exit to the salt flats all great. The q's take pictures of you in the salt pans ones.geniuses! Take all the pictures
The northwest of Argentina is stunning with the lamas, condor, cordillones much history from the pre-Hispanic, Incas and colonial period. is tours are well structured and the people welcoming. The regional food is wonderful and the craft beer is unforgettable. So much to know and learn!
Excellent experience, the guide and excursion to Purmamarca and Salinas Grandes, lived up to our expectations. Thank you.
Superb experience with Tiamar Travel. The driver and guide in Spanish and English was Julio. Super correct. He told of the geology and way of life of the inhabitants of the hills. The slope of Lipan is splendid with its formations and colors. The Salt Flats are imposing. Request the photos that take the guides from the place. Good place to have lunch in Pumamarca and good price for crafts in Pumamarca. Beautiful images of the Seven Colors Hill in Pumamarca. There's a viewpoint. Don't miss it.
very nice, a long day but alone would not have been a feasible trip. very good and kind guide. we had a problem with the bus because of the mud but very good at solving everything quickly. wonderful salinas grandes
Excellent day where you discover breathtaking landscapes at an unthinkable altitude. Only flat lunch ...
The access road is very good and the discovery of this lake is magical On site, you can take a few steps on the lake alone but this remains very limited. It is possible to travel there by car with a guide that groups 4 cars in convoy. This allows access to beautiful places quite distant and especially safely.
Great excursion! The salt flats, an incredible place...Purmamarca beautiful, the colors, aromas, dances and typical foods of the place. We loved it!
We went with my family and loved it! She's guided by a genius. We would have liked to stay a while longer in each place where we go down. Impeccable Service. Very interesting information. The beautiful places.
Excellent everything!!! Super professional Diego (guide) and very pleasant. The tour is super complete, worth it. The salt flats are awesome!!! And Purmamarca, beautiful!! It's worth eating regional food!!! And see the beautiful places that sell local things there!! Unmissable
discovering the great dazzling salinas under a beautiful sun, what a job to extract salt! a lunar place .and the more arriving on the site we meet vineyards beautiful meeting
I always wanted to know this place and loved it!! It is an expanse of white surface totally of salt, they are working on the place, you see the salt pools, it is an incredible landscape, nearby there is a restaurant and sale of regionals.
