Our guide, Fernando, was very friendly and informative, and gave the tour in Spanish and English. Stops on the tour included scenic parts of the gorge, which were spectacular, and we were given ample time to walk around the town of Cafayate. The winery tour was fun, although this part was in Spanish only. Overall, well worth the money.
It was a lovely day. The tour was rather lengthy, a total of 12 hours. We enjoyed the many scenic stops and viewpoints in the canyon. However, the wine tasting lacked an English-speaking guide, only offering Spanish, which was somewhat frustrating as we couldn't understand anything. It was a great value for the price. We would recommend it to friends and family.
Amazing experience! Best tour we had in Salta, highly recommended! Driver Alexandra and guide Cezar were the best! The winery had delicious wine, and although the tour in winery was in Spanish, Cezar immediately stepped in and translated everything. There were so many beautiful breathtaking stops on the way to Cafayate, honestly the long road because of that was not tiring at all and very enjoyable. So worth the money! Bus was comfortable, for max 15 people, with A/C
Very good experience. Punctual and accurate pick up. Good driver and tour guide! Highly recommended.
The trip to quebrada las conchas was great, nice spot. Regarding the "wine" , it would be great if the tour propose an option with good quality wine for an additional price it would make the trip better
Fernando was an amazing guide with his knowledge of the physical geography of the rock formations in the gorge. Learnt so much from him! He was also a very safe driver.
Pros: - Scenic drive through the valley - Informative tour guide with good English translation - 1️⃣ bathroom stop (same location both ways) Cons: - Wine experience was basic (only two mediocre wines) with rushed winery tour - Driver exceeded speed limits, causing motion sickness for some passengers - Limited time in Cafayate (2 hours) only enough for lunch, no town exploration Important Note: Most wineries close for vacation from late December to early January. Verdict: Not recommended. Consider staying in Cafayate instead of taking this day trip for a better experience. Tip: If you do take this tour, be aware that restaurant service in Cafayate takes around 2 hours, which will use up all your free time in town.
The price Is very good but the tour can be dome better. Instrad of shopping almost 2 hours in Cafayate (too mucho) there are many great points on the road where we could have stopped for a break. Plus the microphone wasn't working very well and some times It was hard to understand the guide.
We had an excellent tour guide Julio, who not only provided bilingual information but amazing geological knowledge. Scenery was amazing and we had long enough stoppage time in the main places in Quebrada de las Concha’s. Don’t be too focused on the wine tour- it’s rapid and in Spanish- we got to sample 3 wines. Cafayate is a nice town- 2 hours possibly too long to spend if you don’t want to eat in the restaurant suggested . This tour was good value for money . The last 2 hours in the bus back are long though!
Fantastic daytrip, I would highly recommend! Milagros was a fantastic guide! She was so knowledgeable, and gave us the info in such a fun way. Super friendly, and helpful with everyone, she made sure we had a great time! Walters was a great driver, I've had a few tours where I was hanging on for dear life, but Walter was a super driver. The landscapes are unreal, such a beautiful road. It is a lot of time in the van, but Milly kept us entertained and the views were undoubtedly worth it!
Great scenery in the Lerma Valley. Staff were excellent, always making sure we were first to bathrooms and sights to assure a better experience. The group was fun. I was a little disappointed but not surprised when we went to a super touristy winery ( loaded with buses) and this was a English tour but the winery only spoke Spanish, so I wasn’t able to hear about their methods etc. I would enjoy a more personal not touristy winery, but that’s just a suggestion. Long day, but beautiful scenery.
It was a great day to see the beautiful valley and visit a small town. The wine tour was only in Spanish, and as I don’t understand Spanish it was not very interesting.
A good way to see a lot of scenery without having to do all the driving. Be warned, it’s ALOT of time in the road, but the views are amazing. We made lots of stops along the way to take pictures. The bus itself was very cramped. Very good value for money.
Very well organized experience (Tiamar Tour Agency), the minivan is comfortable and the guide (Fernando) seems to be very well prepared. He provided us very detailed information connected with a good storytelling, good humor and politeness. He tried to organized the tour avoiding the others big tour groups where in many stops we could visit less crowded places. It’s a very long trip but with many stops where we could see how beautiful and amazing are the “Quebrada de las conchas” route. The wine experience in Cafayate city it’s a skip in our opinion. The city is cute but don’t offer many things to see and do. And the visit at the Bodega isn’t that interesting. Maybe the time there can be reduced and visit other natural attractions in the zone instead.
FANTASTIC trip!! Our guide, Monica, was knowledgeable, friendly, funny, and had fantastic information about the region. Sergio, our driver, had a whole playlist to accompany the monuments we visited! Gorgeous scenery, and great winery. Highly recommended.
Great landscapes. Very informative tours. On this Tour to "Cafayate" we had a very friendly bus driver-tour guide (even spoke five languages) and had a great knowledge of geology (presumably studied). This tour was a great experience.
Our tour guide Maru(hope I write it right) was excellent. She spoke Spanish and English very well. She clearly enjoys her job and she explained things very well. The only thing that was not that great was the wine tour. They were cleaning stuff so certain parts of the winery were not open. Also, when we asked to try a different wine and we would pay extra, they declined. (It was not a top notch wine, just their Rose, which can be skipped)! All in all the tour was great! Highly recommended it.
The drive through the gorge up to Cafayate is spectacular in both directions. The wine tour itself was marginal and we only tasted their cheapest products. Our guide, Eduardo, spoke excellent English and had lots of great information to share.
A journey full of beautiful scenery before getting to Cafayate where we had a delicious meal. Stopping points all the way to witness and photograph some of God’s amazing work. At Cafayate, and all the stopping points on the journey, local people sold their handcrafted and beautiful work so be ready to grab some bargains. I would highly recommend this trip.
Very nice tour! We stopped at many beautiful spots to take photos and enjoy the view. The guide spoke English and spanish very well. She explained a lot about the environment and history of the region. I totally recommend!
A great tour with a great guide! The stops along the way are nice to take pictures but not enough time to do exploring. Additionally, the wine tastings are a nice touch but felt rushed. I would highly recommend staying in Cafayate for a night.
While Fernando the guide was very nice and informative, the tour overall was a disappointment. The worst part was the wine tasting. Even though we signed up for an English tour, the winery tour was in Spanish only, so we wasted out time. The wine itself – they give you two nano-portions of unremarkable wine, one white semi-sweet and one red - malbec. There are no other choices, the group size is huge (they combined at least two groups), and, as I said, narration was in Spanish only. Add to that quite an uncomfortable ride in the back of a van for a very, very long time on a very, very bumpy road – and you get the picture. If you are unlucky to sit in the last row of the van, you have practically no access to windows, so you get to see very little. The restaurant where you are encouraged to have lunch is probably the most expensive in town, but clearly not the best. Also, I would like to say here a few words about Expedia, because Expedia bought this tour from Viator who in turn bought it from Tiamar. When we were buying this tour, we were required to provide a lot of personal information, including our passport numbers and home addresses as well as the hotel information. However, the tour confirmation we received from Expedia misses a lot of important information, such as whether or our we will be picked up from the hotel and what time and if not, where we are supposed to go and by what time.
Monica was a great guide! She was very personable and kind and told us tons of very interesting information along the way. If anything, I think she may have talked a bit *too* much, haha. There were times during the day when most people wanted to sleep, and she continued talking although most guests were trying to sleep. The pickup process seemed to be very orderly from what I saw - on group bus tours, I’ve often had this part of the day be a disaster. The bus for our excursion was quite small - it held 20 people (including the driver and the guide), and EVERY SINGLE SEAT was occupied, even though I went on this tour in the off season. The bus was more than tight, it was at times downright uncomfortable with no one having any room to spread out. The tour was overall very good - the places you see on the tour (Garganta del Diablo, el Anfiteatro, etc.) are impressive and very much worth seeing. My favorites were the first stop at Quebrada de las Conchas and the stop at Mirador Tres Cruces - the scenery at that stop was breathtaking. Cafayate is a nice town to visit; I enjoyed the ~2 hours of free time we had there. On my tour, Monica told us (very honestly) that the winery included in our tour was sort of meh, not terribly impressive, and that they only offer 2 wines for tasting. She ended up giving my group the option to go to a different winery that would cost us each around 1000 ARS, which the entire group eagerly accepted. That winery (Nanni) was fantastic - we got to taste 5 great wines for 1400 ARS (or they offered a lower cost option as well). In the past, I have not been a fan of torrontés wine, but I liked the one at Nanni so much that I bought a bottle, instead of purchasing a Malbec or another red that I usually prefer. During the free time, I also visited and did a tasting at a second winery, El Tránsito, which was also quite good (4 wines in the tasting for 1000 ARS). The restaurant Monica recommended for lunch was no frills but good and fast, and reasonably priced. I loved the fact that they stopped at all many places for us to take photos - that was fantastic. We probably made 8-9 stops during the day. Aside from the bus, the only part of the day that really annoyed me is that we went way out of our way on the return trip to take 2 passengers to the Salta airport. This delayed our return to town by at least 30-40 minutes. I don’t know how these passengers arranged this airport drop off, but I found it unprofessional for a tour company to do this and inconvenience 18 other people. Overall - the tour and guide were great, the bus was packed and uncomfortable. This tour is worth what they ask for it, but I would not pay any more than this, as you could otherwise rent a car and do the trip on your own much more comfortably, and on your own schedule.
I booked a tour in english but the entire tour around the vineyard was in spanish only. The guide was lovely and spoke fine english. But kinda disappointed about the vineyard experience. The bus was fine. The amount of breaks was fine as well.
We thoroughly enjoyed the ride to Cafeyete. Our bus was full but comfortable. The scenery was spectacular and our guide, Mauru, gave insights into what we were viewing. We chose to stay the night in Cafayete and the bus driver graciously agreed to drop us off in front of our hotel. A really fun day!
Very nice trip with likeable guide. Amazing views of trough Rio Guachipas and impressive mountains with various colors. Powerful experience inside La Quebrada de las Conchas (Devil's Throat) Excellent price/performance ratio highly recommend. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Nice tour including both landscape-stops and village-stop(s). The guide was very friendly and explained everything in both Spanish and English.
Very good tour, well planned. We saw awesome mars like landscapes, stopped at a small bodega which was not as touristy as the others. Big thanks to awesome tour guide Ramiro!
I would recommend this tour, very informative tour which great sights to explore and see. The winery visit was also great!
Very beautiful and interesting landscape and vistas. Very pleasant trip. Cafayate is a beautiful little town with colonial style buildings in the city center. The central park was undergoing repairs. A wide variety of artesinal works are available for purchase.
It's because of the overall experience that I rate this as an average. The sites and the scenery are fantastic but the co-ordination by Tiamar that turned this from a good tour to a less than average tour. We were the last to be picked up which means we were waiting for 45 minutes which is okay cause someone has to be last. The downside is that we end up with the last two seats on the bus, back seat with two well built british lads, just not enough room for the four of us. So on a 13 hour trip where a fair amount of time is spent in the bus one person had to lean forward as that was the only way we would fit. Simple fix, Tiamar, don't overbook the tour, or don't have staff take their family when the tour is fully booked. Suggestion to people considering this tour, don't book weekends
The tour itinerary stated we would go to a tobacco farm, we did not. The vineyard was a bit underwhelming. We were the last to be picked up and I decided if I ended up having to sit with the wheel hub cramping my legs, I would just not go. The entire row of back seats were open so I decided to go. The back was a bit bumpy, but as luck would have it, some new passengers were put on the bus on the way back, and I ended up in the wheel well seat and the arm rest was also not functional. I cancelled the trip the future trip that I had booked and instead rented a car and was much happier and more comfortable.
We booked 2 tours online with Tiamar Travel, from the outset the communication was excellent, with them confirming our hotel and tour details while we were still at home. Once we arrived in Salta the agent contacted me via WhatsApp to confirm tour details and pick up times. The pick up was on time and a well organsied group. The locations visited were enjoyable but can been seen with any tour agent, what made Tiamar stand out was our guide 'Eva' who worked for both of our day tours, for a full 12hrs each day she was full of energy and enthusiasm , her English was excellent, and despite only us being English speakers on one of the tours she still fully explained everything to us, I don't know how she can work such long days with such a rapport with the guests. From first booking to final drop off Tiamar travel and their tour guide were faultless, it would be difficult to find a tour group more competent than we experienced.
Very interesting and amazing tour. The rock formations are stunning. Our guide was very knowledgeable and we really had a good day.
We took two full day tours (Salinas Grandes and the Cafayate Wine tour) from Salta. We wrote to Eziquel and he was helpful and prompt in his replies and clarified any needs we had. Pickup in the morning came at about 7.30am, so on time but unfortunately we got rather poor seats for the Salinas Grandes tour as it was already rather full by the time it arrived at our hotel. Nonetheless, the tours were great and Eva and Santiago explained all the sites in detail with ample photo stops. For their Cafayate tour, Santiago had a great understanding of geology and biology and could explain the rock formations of the Calchaqui valley very well. The wine tour in essence was just an excuse to go through the Calchaqui valley, but the tasting was great too (although only explanation in Spanish but it’s rather self explanatory) - we went to Quara. There was free choice of lunch in Cafayate. Tiamar was also kind enough to drop us at the airport as we had a flight after the tour (we reache about 19.00 for a 20.50 flight). For the Salinas Grandes tour we had a good stop at the salt lakes and Eva was meticulous and took extra effort to ensure our safety. This is especially important as the high altitudes mean that you could get a headache. Separately For lunch for the Salt lake tours, the restaurant was San Antonio de los Cobres was mediocre, but I guess it happens as it’s a small place that only sees tour groups.
This is a really good day. The highlights are deff the rock formations which are stunning. The wine tasting is more just a sip of wine to try and get you to buy a bottle. The day is worth it for seeing the rock formations though.
It was wonderful! the tourist guide was very pleasant and knowledgeable of the tour. We learned a lot ! we really enjoyed it.
We liked the tour and especially Carolina. She is very kind and knows a lot! Like other people mention, you do drive a lot so if sitting in a car for hours isn´t your cup of tea.. we wouldn´t recommend this tour. However the distance in Salta is big so there is not much you can do about it. The only thing we didn´t like was that we had to drive salta city voor 1h30 min to pick people up. We passed the square at our hotel 4 times.. we could have slept for an hour more. But the views are really amazing and you do get a lot for your money. ps. The wine tasting contains 1 glass of wine so it´s good to know that.

Perhaps one of the more underrated tours you can take, run by a local company out of Salta. A really personal experience. In the small group of 15 or fewer people, you really experience the landscape and culture as if you were driving yourself, listening to an audiobook. Our tour guide Eduardo was extremely knowledgeable and certainly had a good answer for any and all questions you have. His English was excellent, and gave the tour in both English and Spanish. Sometimes tour guides will slowly move towards one language during the tour but he treated the whole group equally the entire time.

Such a spectacular drive, gorgeous scenery, a real taste of the local culture. The wine tour and tasting was good, but what really made the tour special were all the little experiences we had along the way.

fun tour! the guide was so lovely, she was really sweet and friendly and very knowledgable. little frustrating as, it says tour starts at 7 so we were outside waiting and they werent there, so we called them, someone answered right away but said they would be here about 8am. this was kind of annoying to us as we could have had an extra hour in bed. our hostel receptionist knew they would be here at 8am, and said they never come for 7. so why say that they do! anyway, apart from that - the drive to cafayate is about 3 hours but we stopped off lots on the way and the lady explained about the rocks and made it very interesting. she spoke fantastic english! and her daughter is so cute!! the winery was good and the wine was delicious. we were a littttttle disappointed as when we arrived, there wasnt an english speaking guide which is what we paid for, so i didnt understand anything about how the wine was made, but was lots to look at so was still kind of interesting. we tasted a malbec (yum!) and a rose (also yum!) - i thought that cafayate was known for its white wine grapes (i may have misunderstood this when the lady was explaining) so was little dissapointed we didnt try a white as was hoping for more than 2 tasting (although, the lady topped up my red wine twice! mmm :)) we also got to hang out and have lunch (own expense) in cafayate for 2 hours which was nice. all in all, a very good day out and worth the money (just not 100% for us due to the winery, i wish we could speak spanish!) lovely guide, and beautiful beautiful scenery with lots of photo ops!!!

Great trip with professional guide who spoke very good English. He also had interesting stories regarding the places, landscapes, history etc. We only visited one winery in Cafayate and the visit was quite quick. I would have appreciated visiting one more winery. We did not even tasted the Torrontes wine. A lot of time spent sitting in the car. However, the trip was worth it. Landscapes were really impressive and we made several stops for photographing them.

The trip was good, but not breathtaking. It felt like we spent more time driving that anything else. The wine tasting was good, it was a highlight of the tour.

This is an excellent tour, where you get to see magnificent scenery.
The price is good as well. The guide was excellent and spoke excellent English.
The stops are excellent and you have plenty of free time at them. Cafayate was a lovely little town and you have enough time to look around at your leisure. the visit to the winery was a bonus as well. The wine was excellent!

My plan in heading north to the Salta region was to see some of the spectacular scenery there and this was a great way to do it. I was picked up at my hotel and we were treated to a bilingual tour of the Quebrada de Cafayate, to a beautiful winery and wine-tasting on the outskirts of Cafayate, and then to lunch and time to wander in Cafayate itself. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the geology and even treated us to an impromptu song in the appropriately named Anfiteatro formation. The wine tour and tasting were also great--both informative and useful in understanding how the Salta region gets its particular terroir. Cafayate itself is a lovely colonial town with a huge central square bordered by shops and restaurants. By day's end we were all quiet and tired and happy from the day's tour.

I would of liked to visit some more winery's but the scenery was amazing !!!

We really enjoyed this tour and the places we visited. The scenery in this area is really quite unique and stunning, the town of Cafayete is very quaint and a great place to walk around and shop, and the visit to the winery was a lot of fun. Our guide Monica was excellent - she was very informative, keen, and friendly. Our driver was also excellent and always drove safely.

The guide was fine, but not the driver who was going at high speed and did not want to turn on the air conditioning. Feeling sick from the heat and the speed. Traffic is uncomfortable.
The tour was fine, although it had an unfluid dynamic. On the return the van broke down and that made the experience much worse.
This negative review is not so much the company Tiamar as the guide that accompanied us in what is supposed to be the most beautiful excursion in the area. a good guide is everything!!! Bethlehem, the guide... the margin to pick you up at the hotel is 45 minutes. she called me at almost 7.45... I told her that I wanted to complain about this way of organizing, that it is logical to make a plan the day before, as other guides do, so that you only wait 5 or 10 minutes. She spoke x above me, I had to tell her to listen to me. "Ma'am, I get up at 5.30 for work and if you want to complain, do it to the agency... plus if you don't want me to pick you up, tell me and I WON'T go looking for you"... My problem is not what time she gets up xq is her job. I don't even have to consent to being talked to like that, let alone tell you not to come looking for me. When he arrived and did not show up, I asked his name and he answered me but in a nuisance raising his eyebrows and with zero cordiality... nor told me where I could sit or absolutely nothing, as other guides usually do. He explained the route that will be done with the stops, period. Professionalism shines through its absence. You can tell the league when a guide sticks to his script and tells what is essential or what he enjoys transmitting his knowledge and makes you enjoy. He spoke the strictly essential. He treated me rather indifferently, vamo, who did not treat me at all They told me how many geological formations you would see, more than 10, with it about 4 or 5 because he said they forget where they are. The 3 crosses I didn't even see lol Painful excursion thanks to the unprofessionalism and lack of desire of this person. People who leave delighted with this type of guides are due to the fact that they probably have not matched with guides with great professionalism and knowledge, apart from the desire to teach, entertain, even amuse their clients. Sergio is a sign of this, I only have words of thanks for him, he made the excursion to Cachi a great day and did not stop talking in the almost 12 hours, telling stories, curiosities, beyond what is strictly necessary
