Cafayate: 2-day-trip From Salta City

Outstanding road from Salta to Cafayate, the Ruta 68 is worth the entire trip to Salta. The guide of the first day trip was very nice, but the organization of this 2-days trip not too good: it wasn’t clear the day 1 we would have been brought to Cafayate by lunch (we supposed by evening instead), and we had to ask several times about the pick-up of the next day (to come back to Salta). And basically the second day “trip” is only a return to Salta.

Wow! A fantastic trip especially the journey through La Quebrada de las Conchas, a spectacular landscape! The guide was brilliant and so knowledgeable. The wine tasting and tour was a little brief but we thoroughly enjoyed the trip.

Fantastic trip and excellent guide. I am glad I stayed overnight in Cafayate to do some more winetasting. And it is a long trip for one day! Break it into two if you have the time!

The two day tour was actually half a day tour and transportations between salta and cafayate. The guide was great speaking English (but not winery and he did not translate it) . I missed to see one of the highlight of the tour because the fist bus stopped there on the way back to salta and the other bus on the following day already stopped at there on the way to cafayate, so I missed it:( I paid more than other tourists and got less. I recommend to book just a full day tour, so you won’t miss anything, OR book a full day tour and talk to the travel agency directly to accommodate your needs if you want to stay in cafayate.

This is a two day tour, but actually a half day tour with a transportation between salta and cafayate. I missed the highlight of the site because the bus stopped at there on the way back to Salta and the other bus on the following day stopped on the way to cafayate. I paid more than other tourists but did not get anything more, even less. If you want to spend a night in cafayate, I recommend to book one day tour and talked to the travel agency directly to accommodate your needs. I’m upset not to be able to see “amphitheater”+ the bus picked me up earlier than schedule time, so I had to change my plan.

Our guide Monica was amazing !!! If you’re lucky enough to get her she will make this trip a memorable one! She had us laughing in both Spanish and English and was very knowledgeable about the area. The trip itself is unreal. Amazing views and so much to see. I would recommend spending the night in Cafayate so you can break up the drive and also explore the beautiful wine town more. Loved this excursion !

Cafayate itself was a really lovely town and the parque nacionale los cardones was spectacular. We stayed overnight and next morning took a trip to the Rio Colorado with a local diaguita guide which was very special

Booked a tour to Cafayate. Company was excellent to work with to organize the trip and allow us to stay two days in Cafayate before we would be picked up. Unfortunately due to the coronavirus and travel restrictions, we had to cancel! Tiamar was extremely quick to respond and refund us the entire us the entire amount. So greatly appreciated in these crazy times.....

I took a chance on this tour without being able to find any English review about the tour and was happy I did. I originally had planned to hire a car at Salta airport to go to Cafayate the following day and stayed overnight there. Our flight is scheduled to arrive late, past the car agency's opening hours. We emailed the rental car agency to confirm our reservation but did not hear back from them for the longest time. We made contact with Tianmar as a back up plan. The email contact was not responded to promptly, but once I got a hold of their WhatsApp number, all correspondences were prompt and in perfect English. We proceeded to book (through Viator) a couple of days before the tour. Pick-up in Salta was within the scheduled window (7:00-7:40 AM). We travelled in a 18-20 people van, it was not full, so very comfortable. Despite us being the only 2 English speaking people on the tour, and the only ones that are staying over night, we were provided with excellent guidance, all our questions/concerns are addressed promptly. The tour was very decent with interesting stops along route 68. Of course you don't have complete freedom of where to stop, but I felt the stops were adequate. It also included one visit to a winery near town (Vasija Secreta). We got into Cafayate at around 2:00 PM when we left the day trip group. They were headed for lunch while we checked in to our hotel. We were free, on our own from then on until 3-3:30 PM the following day when they came back to pick us up and we travelled with a different day trip group back to Salta. We were again the only English speaking people on the van. They made a stop just for us because we did not get to see the Amphitheater the day before. The afternoon stop at the Amphitheater was brilliant; we practically had the place to ourselves. Thank you Tianmar Travel for meeting our expectation! A special shout out to Pablo (our guide on the first day) and the taller/funny guide/driver on the second day (April 21) whose name we did not catch.

We were very poorly accommodated in a small van with 19 passengers and no room. The guide was sympathetic and helpful. But I spoke too fast, We stayed two days in cafayate high point of the city is wine museum. The return was scheduled for 1h and 30 minutes before the schedule. Again the vehicle was very tight, on the turn the guide did not interact.

Mariela in the agency and Montserrat were just wonderful! From the very beginning, they guided the tour with contagious enthusiasm, super interesting information and care that made everyone feel special. Every stop was a new discovery, always accompanied by smiles and good stories. And, to complement, the charism and sympathy of Alfredo gave an even more special touch to the experience. These were light, fun and unforgettable days — those that we keep in our hearts with a big smile! 😄

Foi muito bom ir de excursão até Cafayate para podermos ir nas bodegas e todo mundo experimentar, já que não estávamos dirigindo! Recomendo muito pegar a excursão de dois dias, já que a partir das 15h do primeiro dia você fica livre para fazer o que quiser. Nos pontos que visitamos com a empresa, tínhamos sempre cerca de 15 minutos para apreciar a vista e tirar fotos, muito rápido!

Es un viaje con estancia de una noche en Cafayate con traslados a los hoteles.Desde el primer momento informé que pernoctariamos en Piatelli Wine resort. Es un hotel icono de la zona. Cuando llegamos a Cafayate preguntamos a Tiamar agencia receptivo la hora de recogida al día siguiente. Nos contestaron que nos nos recogían que estaba lejos. Qué fuéramos a Cafayate a las 13:00 sin especificar dirección alguna. Contacté con Viator e intenté contactar con Tiamar y no contestaron. Imagínense no vienen a recogernos y no nos dicen dónde ir. Por la noche al tener un vuelo temprano al día siguiente decidimos comprar billetes de bus para ir a Salta y por supuesto solicitar el reembolso. Solo entonces con los billetes ya comprados nos dicen que nos venían buscar al hotel. Obviamente, les hemos dicho que no. El problema es que estábamos en un hotel maravilloso con actividades de catas de vinos y otras actividades y no pude disfrutarlas por estar pendiente de un estúpido transfer.

By route 68 you can get to Cafayate in approximately 3 hours from Salta. It is worth stopping at all the attractions. Cafayate is a town that you will fall in love with, its tranquility is unbelievable. The gastronomy is very varied and not very expensive.

This panorama is spectacular. Especially since there is not so much tourism. It is as if one were visiting an equivalent to arriving in Petra...but on the American continent and without so much tourism.

Very interesting road from Salta city, several stops. I recommend night, the village is very nice and has many wineries to visit. We went in the day and it is very tired, gives to stay two days.

The shell break is an unforgettable experience. All the formations you see are spectacular.
