Pompeii Small Group Guided Tour From Salerno Port

Our guide, Anna, was very knowledgeable about the history of Pompeii. She took time to explain how the researchers have determined different facets of Pompeii life leading up to the eruption. I also found I had several misconceptions left over from what I learned when I was much younger.

Terrible experience! The company which was to provide the experience contacted us only 9 minutes prior to our meeting time to tell us they were unable to reach the meeting point due to a road closure. (The closure was due to a foot race, the closures were made public days in advance but the company failed take notice!) They suggested we immediately go to another meeting place about 30 minutes away... due to the closures we were unable to do that. They also suggested rescheduling for the following day. We were on a cruise, leaving the port that night so reschedule was not an option. We were extremely disappointed to miss Pompeii on our only day in Salerno. EXTREMELY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Our guide Frank was wonderful. He made sense of things we could just have looked without any understanding had we gone by ourselves. Ancient life in Pompeii came to life thanks to his knowledge. And he did all this in a very enjoyable way, as he is very funny, too.

Epic experience. Our tour guide, Frankie , was the best tour guide we have had so gar on our trip. He was phenomenal!!!! Funny, informative, and educated on the history of Pompeii. I would highly recommend him!

Sasa was a great tour guide! He showed us some of the highlights of the city while avoiding the crowds. He was knowledgeable and funny. Transportation was convenient and easy.

We took our tour from Salerno port. The pick up was just outside of the port about 10-15min walk. Driver was on time in the comfortable VAN. When we came back, few had enough time to catch ferry to Amalfi, we spent there 1hour and came back on time. Our tour guide, Sasa is very knowledgeable and very considerate towards families with kids. There some areas in Pompeii are not PG rated, and he did excellent job explaining in a way where all adults would understand.

We booked the tour (Enjoy Pompeii) through Viator for Oct. 26 with a meeting time of 9:15 am. We arrived at the meeting point on time, but the driver could not communicate clearly (choppy English) and did not give us the correct address. Despite several attempts to reach the driver and sort it out, we missed the tour, and the driver left without us. We contacted Viator support to request a refund. The agent was helpful, however the refund was still refused. We had planned the trip carefully and were ready on time, so being left behind without a refund was very disappointing. If you book this tour, confirm the exact meeting point and the driver's contact number directly before the day, and make sure the driver's English is clear enough to coordinate the pickup. I hope the operator improves its communication and handles refunds in cases like this.

Frankie made it so much fun and interesting I really appreciated how much he made me and my family laugh and we are grateful for that. Would do this again in a heartbeat.

Pompeii is an amazing experience, which could get 5 stars by itself. What made it a brilliant experience was our guide, Frankie. We were a group of friends, 3 couples, and we could have gone round by ourselves, seen much but learned little. We could have gone round with another guide and learned much. But Frankie made walking round Pompei an experience. He gave many facts but didn’t drown us in detail; he was entertaining but didn’t try to be the ‘star’; but best of all, although he must have done the tour a thousand times, he made it seem that he valued us as people, not just punters, and just gave us a full tour that will live long in the memory. His catchphrase, “Follow Frankie”, that told us he was moving on, is one that everyone who is thinking of booking would do well to follow. As for the rest, we had a large taxi that picked us up from Salerno and took us to and from Pompeii, which made the whole experience feel real value for money. And the email stream before the trip kept us totally involved and up to date.

Fabulous well orchestrated tour. They had great coordination with the driver and guide. It was a little confusing for us coming off the ship and having to transfer to the port then locate the driver. So we were a little late. That driver was excellent and made up time on the road to get us there to meet the group. Francesca was amazing and very informative

Our tour guide, Sasa, was outstanding and went out of his way to give us a chance to duck into the museum in Pompeii to see a couple quick things. The tour operator delivered despite a couple hiccups. Apparently our guide for the day did not show up and they had to hustle to get Sasa to come and take us in. My ride from Salerno went very smoothly with excellent communication from Giuseppe. It was a quick ride to Pompeii. From there it was a little confusing however, Mary Ann met me at the car and walked up up the hill to the entrance to the historical site. She said I could grab a bite to eat or use the restroom because they would not start for 1/2 hour. After that I had to do some follow up but I eventually found my tour group (of 21). Following Sssa's tour. The tour company quickly got me into a vehicle for the longer ride back to Salerno so I would get to the cruise ship on time. That went very smoothly. I would recommend this excursion.

Other than having to clarify the meeting point for transportation (which was resolved), it was a great experience. The staff was helpful and accommodating and the tour guide excellent!

Freddy was a fantastic tour guide. Informative and entertaining. He made every effort to make sure that we received a thorough tour even during thunder, lightening and rain. Highly recommend this incredible tour.

Communication was great, transport was excellent, time keeping also spot on. Our guide, Angelo, was informative, knowledgeable and answered the many questions put to him. Angelo also took care to keep everyone together, he made sure as much of Pompeii was covered within the time we had. Finally, Angelo made the whole experience fun, thank you 🙂

Angelo was our tour guide and he was very personable and funny. It was a two hour tour so he showed us what was the most important since apparently trying to see the entire city can take days! Very happy I booked a tour to understand the history, by looking at the ruins you don’t quite get the entire picture. My pick up and drop off was very smooth as well and well organized. Definitely recommend! Oh and I went solo as well. Book the tour!

Wear closed sneakers, hat and bring water. Lots of uneven walking. We had 100 f degree weather. Very interesting. May be a good idea to read up a little about Pompeii history.

This is the tour for Pompeii! Our guide James was outstanding! He knew every little detail about the archaeological treasure. He was concise, but gave us fabulous information about how Pompeii started as a Greek colony and how it moved into Roman times about 300 years before the devastation of the eruption.. He talked about the food the daily lives what it was like for the people that lived there in a way that really made sense. He was able to point out some of the unbelievable engineering feats that are just crazy to think happened over 2000 years ago! He was extremely kind and very funny as as well as as accommodating. He speaks five languages well, and was happy to give us background of even weird stuff like what kind of food they ate and how it was very different from post Colombian times that we see today in Italian cuisine. He made sure we saw the restaurants and the bakery, and one of the most interesting aspects was the giant house that former slaves bought when they were freed. Highly recommend, would take it again in a heartbeat..

The meeting point was easy to find and a short walk from the cruise port. The ride to Pompeii was beautiful and the air conditioning much appreciated. Our tour guide at Pompeii was Frankie. He was fun, energetic, and knowledgeable. He made it very engaging and helped us navigate the crowds. Comfort of the guests was a top priority for him as was ensuring we could see all the sites. Our group was only 10-12 people and we could easily “Follow Frankie” without the use of radios or following a flag in the air. Would definitely recommend!

We have been wanting to tour Pompeii for quite some time and we finally took advantage of an opportunity to visit. First off, Pompeii can get extremely hot during the summer, so be sure to bring a hat, plenty of water, an umbrella for shade, and comfortable walking shoes. Our tour guide, Angelo, was outstanding. He has an impressive knowledge of Pompeii’s history and culture, along with a fascinating background in volcanology. I asked him numerous questions throughout the tour, and he patiently and thoroughly answered every one. This was an incredible experience and a must-see for anyone touring Italy. Angelo’s expertise made our visit to Pompeii especially memorable!

Best tour guide I have ever had! She was incredibly interesting with her stories and kept to the perfect tour length. I learned a ton and feel like we saw the best parts of Pompei. She also kept us in the shade because it was excruciatingly hot, which is hard to do because there is limited shade there.

Anna was super knowledgeable. It was very hot this day and she did a great job of finding shaded areas to stand and talk. Wishing we had more opportunities to see more of Pompei than we did since we paid for a private tour.

Francesca was a very engaging and knowledgeable guide! We were merchants and sailors for our trip, or as Francesca said we were living there! Learned so many facts about pompeii, I would definitely recommend the visit. We even got souvenirs as a gift at the end. Transport to and from Salerno port was easy, meeting point was only a short walk from our boat.

This tour is a good introduction to the huge site of Pompei, which is impossible to see in only one visit. Our guide Arna, was extremely knowledgeable and quite entertaining.

A super tour of Pompeii - our guide James was fantastic! The best guide we’ve ever had. He haves us lots of insights of the area and loved the topic! He answered every question and was sensitive to the weather and our groups needs.

Transportation could be improved. Newer car would be nice, on the way back the AC was broken. Guide was very nice and knowledgeable. Suggestion, use personal earpiece so you can hear the guide better. Due to the crowd, sometimes it is hard to hear everything the Guide says.

The details shared by our tour guide Alessandra and her clear and engaging narrative was one of the best group tours I’ve experienced. We were a little larger than the small group advertised but she did an excellent job of keeping all of us together. I’ve been to Pompeii and toured with just the audio guide and map before but learned so much more today. Grazie!
